    Jordan, call it what you want. I do. I was a curly girl long before that woman wrote her book. I do what works for MY hair, not what some woman wrote in her book. Extremes don't work for me - all things in moderation - occasionally shampooing with a shampoo with sulfates, occasionally using silicones - which are excellent heat protection - is what's best for ME. YOU have to find what's best for you - and call it whatever you like.

      Agreed! Lorraine Massey has some good tips, but people with wavy/curly/coily hair knew how to take care of and style their hair before she wrote her book!

    There is a whole section in her book, second edition where she talks about wavy hair and how it is needed to wash with low poo shampoo waves. She mentions there that mousses are better for waves than gels. So, it's not entirely true that she is against any shampoo. However, I do not appreciate her owning this method where in fact she learned all herself from black community. She never ever mentions that.

    We are in the same wavy hair group on Facebook. Didn't know you had a channel until today, subscriber and am now watching some of your older videos. I'm a little over a year into my wavy journey and I'm still trying to find a solid routine so I love that there are creators like you and Swavy Curly Courtney that try lots of different products, styling techniques, etc to help others find their own way that works for them.
    So thank you for doing what you do. You are beautiful and so easy to watch and listen to, your personality is like sunshine.

    She trademarked the name curly girl method. However, I don't think that trademark extends to content creators saying they fellow a modified version. I could be wrong.
    I never followed the CGM as I knew it wouldn't work with my very thick, coarse hair. I need to brush conditioner through it and brush curl cream through. No way am I finger detangling all of that hair. Because my hair needs a lot of product, I need to clarify frequently. I tried low poo shampoos and co-washes. I had so much build up. My hair was nasty and my scalp itched.

    Four years ago (my first attempt at letting my waves 'be free' 😂) I *did* read the book and I knew up-front that I wouldn't be following it to the letter! I had tried using a co-wash years ago (Wen from QVC) and I *hated* it! I had a ton of hair fall out and my skin was broken out all along my hairline and on my neck (my doctor said it was probably an allergic reaction to the menthol). Anyway, I digress.... 😆 The other thing was that I washed my hair every day and that was a HUGE no-no! 😮 Other than that, I did what I was 'supposed' to do but it seemed like waaay too much work, so I quit after almost 4 months. 😐 Now I use Raw Curls exclusively (and follow their VERY SIMPLE directions) and I'm lovin' the wavy life! ❤️

    I have done so many “types” of CGM over the past 10 years or so. the real OG Lorraine Massey version, a more extreme baking soda cleanse & ACV rinse conditioner phase, settled into the social media popular CGM. Over the past few months I have started playing with sulfates (clarifying shampoo! Woo!) and silicones.
    I got a co-wash from a brand called Doux that has a couple silicones in it and it cleansed and conditioned my hair very well and has kept it from getting super oily for a couple days. However I hate the smell of it and don’t know if I can stand to use it! It smells like very strong bubblegum 🤢

    So happy to see you address the curly girl method. I've never been strict CGM. I own the book and have tried Deva Curl products in the past but they're too expensive and irritated my scalp. I think it's unrealistic to put together so many rules on how to care for curly and wavy hair when all our hair types are so different and often have various needs. I found the CGM too restrictive. I find silicones once in awhile give me nice results and I dye my hair from time to time and am.not about to give that up. There are so many great products for curls and waves that don't an insane amount like Deva Curl. Keep posting this great content Jordan. I look forward to Thursdays to see your videos.

    When the CGM first came out, and she offered her products, she sold One Conditioner and a hair gel. I knew that would not work for my fine hair. Very soon after, she added low poo cleanser and no poo cleanser, both part of the CGM.
    The low poo sudsed and was CGM. I used the low poo, the conditioner and the gel. I didn't get build up, didn't need to clarify and my curls were beautiful. I followed her method until she sold her company and the quality of the products started going down. I think if you have a problem with
    what she says, just email and tell her instead of slandering her on a public forum. I don't agree with her attitude, but I just ignore it, which maybe you should also and call it what you choose.

    • @JordanFaith
      @JordanFaith  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@JordanFaith some of the bloggers have slandered her and they are not even old enough to remember when CGM came out, so they don't have the full story as you didn't, such as she did recommend a low lathering poo! To me it doesn't matter what the story is or her attitude , I don't think it's right to talk smack about anyone on public forums.

    • @realpunkplays3943
      @realpunkplays3943 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      This definitely isn’t slander. Jordan was extremely respectful in this video. Lorraine has a following of nearly 90k people just on Instagram and in the first few minutes of the video Jordan mentioned she says very clearly that if you’re clarifying or using a brush at all etc then do NOT call it the curly girl method because it’s detrimental to her and her sacred method. So she is literally there in front of her huge audience being upset with people for saying CGM, but Joran Faith is in the wrong for literally just sharing with 1k followers some of what Lorraine said and literally just agreeing to do what she asked and stop calling what she’s doing cgm?

    • @JordanFaith
      @JordanFaith  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@annaburns5382 in the video I watched from her she does advice against lathering cleansers and shampoos. Again, I wasn’t talking smack or expressing any anger towards Lorraine and I’m sorry if it came off that way. I was stating that she is upset with people like me using the name CGM, so I was sharing with my audience that I’ll no longer be using that because it’s not what I do :)
