I have owned the Delonghi EC685M for 4 years. It started out great, but over time I found that it is not very durable. (Maybe to be expected with a low-cost appliance-level espresso machine.) After a year-and-a-half, it started leaking water around the group head. Thankfully, I was able to fix this by opening up the machine and replacing a gasket. It wasn't easy, but doable. Unfortunately, after 2 years of use, it started leaking out of the steam wand as well, and the leak got much worse over the following months. Now, it is practically unusable with very little steam pressure and huge leaks when turned on. To fix it, the entire steam valve would need to be replaced which is expensive and beyond my repair abilities. Unfortunately, I have decided to upgrade to a different machine.
Of course, just use the wand to release hot water instead of steam. Open the knob without pressing the Steam option (top right) on the machine and it will pour hot water.

what number do you grind you beans please - I can't get two shots and have tried 5, 6 and 8 grind
It depends, start with the coarsest grind setting and slowly go finer
