    I've just received my first non-pod coffee machine which was influenced by your more than any other TH-camr. The Deduce just seems the best balance of functionality vs cost. I bought used, and despite them saying there were problems with it, I simply cleaned it before first use and it seems fine (but it was really gunked up). This video is going to be a great help in setting it up. Thanks!

      @@TomsCoffeeCorner yes, I am currently binging your videos! I am coming from a little Saeco Aroma manual machine I’ve had since…2009? 😬 This is an upgrade in a lot of ways, certainly! I was confused by the pressurized filters it comes with though, so over time I’m guessing I may want to pick up the aftermarket portafilter you recommended as well. We’ll see how it goes!

      @@jocelynplemel2736 Hey Jocelyn, the pressurized filters were designed for pre-ground coffee beans, or if you have a grinder which cannot grind fine enough for espresso. The unpressurized filters on the other hand require a finer grind, so they will need a decent grinder. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions! Cheers, Tom

      @@TomsCoffeeCorner that makes sense, as I do understand this machine is meant to be beginner friendly. I do have a somewhat decent burr grinder (though the Eureka you’ve shown looks amazing, but probably not justifiable for me at the moment). It’s too bad De’Longhi didn’t provide a simple option to swap out for a non-pressurized filter with the Dedica line.

    Hello Tom,
    I think I encountered all the possible issues today when it comes to the settings and adjustments.
    I am using a decent grinder at its finest grind, yet still I cannot exceed 23 seconds of extraction, while using 18 grams of coffee.
    Since I can manipulate only coarseness in the grinder and water volume my options seem to be limited.
    When I lower the water volume my extraction time is just around 15 seconds
    When I tamper harder I loose the channeling
    When I go back to factory settings I get 1:5 ratio, because the machine spits out 100 grams of water.
    is there anything that comes to your mind to play around with?

Tried changing beans, grind size, descaling, everything. With everything remaining the same what could be the cause? Maybe machine has lost pressure? Hi Tom, great video and detailed explanations, Thank You 😀 I am curious, how do you know which water hardness to choose? I have no idea of the water hardness I have 😕 I use carbon filtered tap water. Also I noticed the steam light is flashing orange after only 6 weeks or so of use ( 1 cup per day ) suggesting a descale is required, which seems too soon! I wonder if this has to do with the water hardness default setting? I have the new EC885M model, by the way. Thank You very much 😀

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey SB, I think there are strips which can be used to determine how hard your water is. If you are using filtered water anyway, most of the minerals should have been removed. I would choose "medium" hardness in that case.
      How are you liking the 885 model?

    • @SB-fd1kv
      @SB-fd1kv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TomsCoffeeCorner Ok thanks, that's a good idea Tom, I will look into that and establish the water hardness I have, I will select the medium one for now. Still, it's strange that the machine would be needing a descale so soon! The 885 is ok for a coffee machine, it's the first one i have owned, so can't really compare to anything else, looking at videos you have done and others, an upgrade to a non-pressurised filter or blind filter portafilter would be a good idea.

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SB-fd1kv Well, the descaling is just a count of extractions, so there is no sensor for scale or anything. I wouldn't be too worried about it. Regular descaling is a good idea for all appliances though, even water kettles and coffee machines.
