Oh my goodness. The title may be funny, but it's definitely not a joke. In this match, both players built rare units, had com tower trades, lots of fighting left and right, and the match itself almost hit the day limit! The year has barely begun, and we already have a contender for the craziest match of the year. It might be tough to beat this one. 2025 is already being a promissing year for Advance Wars! We even got our first Mangs quote too! lol 18:25 - "A Jess Battleship! I guess you weren't expecting that in 2024." - Mangs 2025
Sensei's: Did you know that when you join two damaged units together, and their combined HP is over 10, the surplus gets converted into funds? Adder : What are you babbling on about? Do you think some loose change is going to sway the course of battle?
On day 33, Greganthus could've captured the neutral city, but he moved of to get in position for a purple city. I don't think he could've won at the end though. Even if he would keep join-capping the purple city, he would be one day away from capturing it on day 35 if that rockets stays unharmed. Very intense game, I was not expecting to see this many high-tech units on a 17k split income map.
Building the b-ship as Jess was such a good move. Other COs are discouraged from building b-ships there because it means the lander has nowhere to re-supply. Sure, you can build an APC, but the map is already so small, that the tempo loss can be huge. I wouldn't be surprised if was the reason Greg picked Jess; Small map, so AAs can reach most of the map, and the b-ship move. Any inch of advantage matters
Was not planning on bship when I chose jess, but I did consider the lander fuel before building it! I picked jess because I thought her tank spam could get control of the 4 contested properties in the center quickly (which worked), and because there are a lot of 0-star tiles so jess tanks can wallbreak against infantry walls easily. However, I underestimated copters on this map for sure!
Battleships, stealth fighter, megatank? My goodness this game was crazy! You and Deejus got me into AW in 2023 and now I’m in the discord! Hopefully I can start improving my lackluster GL rating 👀
I think greganthus built their battleship 1 turn too early. It limited their options as of where to put their units and what they can build. Even if talose attacked, talose would have to back off at some point and let greganthus get the neutral middle left city.
top of my head: trying the join-cap, and also pushing left ~day 30ish instead of shifting so hard to center. In general I think Garganthus needed to fight harder for bottom left.
Wdym, every unit is a chance at the slot machine! 🤣 But for real tho, do leave the luck rolling to infantry and recons; you're playing for the economic advantage with those rolls, so using tanks and stuff for them is not ideal. 😅
This has to be one of the craziest games in all of advance wars history, holy HELL! Talose never ceases to impress, and we really saw almost every single unit imaginable. Landers! Battleships! Bombers! Fighters! Stealths! Rockets! Megatank! Medium tanks! Neotanks! Everyone went absolutely crazy in this game. Thanks for this game and your coverage Mangs.
Mangs magically no longer blocking the bottom right property. we truly live in the future. 2025 has only just started and we're already seeing insane innovations 🤭
That really was up to Gregantus to lose. He had a $3k advantage for at least ten early turns. It's not a lot, but that battleship was essentially free. 30k ain't bad, especially early on. Can't help but think it would have been better used on choppers and tanks though. Then again, Adder with two comm towers is better than Jess, every day of the week.
I think if Greg captured that one neutral territory earlier in the match, back when he was dominating that area and Talose was front shifting, he might've stood a better chance to win, instead of focusing on two caps, he would've just needed to focus on one, right?
Me thinking about the last video......................... But its the first so i guess it counts. Also goodjob with the windows being layered to show the map.
I haven't watched the full video yet, but was that correct that the Black Bomb wasn't banned? It wasn't crossed over in restricted units, but I'm under assumption that generally it's always banned.
At 8:14 Talose captures the middle city with a 7 hp infantry. How did that happen? He had only started capturing it the turn before when the infantry was at full health. That would be 17 total in capture value, so how does it become a full capture? What am I missing here?
Pretty cool dude? I am the coolest of the cool, the pinnacle of style and brilliance! No one even comes close. But at least you recognize greatness when you see it.
@@ShasOSwoll Heh heh... A coup against Hawke? Oh, how amusing. As if I’d reveal my brilliant strategies to the likes of you. Stick to your armchair tactics, little commentator-leave the real plotting to someone with actual talent. But I do appreciate your... enthusiasm for my inevitable rise.
Me, before clicking Play: all right, very funny clickbait title Mangs, what have you got for... oh, a Talose game? yeah this is probably gonna be a good one. Me, after watching: Fuck me, that was indeed a banger.
14:07 I'm still a filthy casual AW player, but I thought both players took the mech to split the difference between decent firepower, saving funds to the get early MTank and BCopter, and not base-skipping?
Mangs, 10+3+3+3 = 19. There was no way he was getting that property. There was no way to damage the rockets. If he had kept join capping the game would have ended before he capped.
So you're saying the master league may end in 2025? That's crazy enough 😅 Also, how about you team up with Adder guy vs Grimm guy & Grimm girl?! Or perhaps mixed teams? I bet it'd be pretty fun 👍🏼
Im going to stand up and say I hate this map. I remember years ago first seeing it on global league and falling prey to its rediculous terrain. The strange mixing of rivers, shoals, and open ocean looks like its deliberately confusing, and no such terrain was ever allowed in the cartridge version
I don't really play much AWBW, but from the content I've seen properties seems like a way better stat than damage or value. Total damage just rewards aggression, while total value just feels like an incomplete picture, especially because value can fluctuate so wildly depending on who pushed last. And if you go for either of those, you just incentivize player 2 to throw everything at the enemy and not worry about positioning or retribution. There would be so many degenerate games where a CO with a lot of offense just punches in as hard as they can and leaves themselves exposed. To me, Advance Wars is a game about positioning, map control, and taking small advantages and capitalizing on them. The main conflict of the entire game is capturing properties in order to gain those advantages. Bases give a numbers advantage. Com Towers give a strength advantage. Cities give an income advantage. Heck, without a turn limit the entire game is supposed to end when you capture the most important property. Properties also have the unique benefit of taking two turns to capitalize on. That means, no matter what, each player gets at least one chance to stop the other from winning. Defensive play matters to the very last second, and turn 35 is honestly just overtime to see how it went. Did the wall hold? Then click capture and it's GG. If it didn't, hit concede. So to me, this match showed exactly WHY properties is a good metric. Talose was able to win because he knew what his win con was and he played absolutely phenomenal defense at the end. Greganthus lost because he gave up the win con, and wasn't able to pull it back in time. Would he have won if the turn count was a few turns higher? It's pretty likely. Does it suck that he lost? Of course it does. But that's the mistake he made. He lost track of time.

Right!?
Lost being into Advance Wars? ...Nice.
Mangs is trying to change in 2025…
It's never good enough
I guess I could watch it on my PS3 to recreate the effect, since for some reason it stretches TH-cam videos past the TV screen edges.

I for one support Mangs's decision to tattoo an airport on his right bicep to give us the illusion of an intact map.

I was ahead in income the whole game so I got cocky. In retrospect, I think a megatank (or just copter spam) was better.
34:20 probably, he gives up his figher to charge power bar
Can Talose rename to Tawin already?

I *sort of* get the logic behind not trying to free the fighter. keeping the fighter boxed up ties up four units, one of which is a neotank.
