Competitive advance wars is like professional wrestling. Not in the way that it's rigged, more in the way that they invented an entirely new kind of guy to participate in it
Just faced Po1and on live and I have to say, He Made me Loosen my bowels. He slapped me so hard that I started a losing streak afterwards. Live is extremely fun, but I play during Grandmaster "Peak Hours" and a Grandmaster is like a superboss in a Roguelike that ends your Run/Win streak. Shoe is not slouch as well and they are a bigger menace in all the tiers.
A warning in advance for players who are going to sign up for live league, at the start, everyone is at the same starting line disregarding your elo rating. So, a number of really strong players are matching up and you have a high chance of encountering really skilled players climbing the ladder. I encountered Kantbei, a 1400+ player then my 2nd match was agaisnt another 1400 player. Of course if you want to fight strong players and test your skill against some of the best players, give it a go.
Starflash juat obliterated this game. Partly it was just outplaying Poland, but also partly it was just having the APM advantage. Poland had his turn stopped on 0 minutes a couple of times, and that means units that weren't moved (and i think base skipping, but wasn't keeping track), whilst starflash had more than 2 minutes remaining concistently, thus meaning he was never forced to not move units or base skip by the timer. GG WP, and great to see a route.
In theory I love the Live League, this is how AW lends itself to the funniest, most intense matches, in practice though it's harder to gauge actual skill at the game because some of the strongest players reside in completely different time zones, thus it can be argued that any of them either play at a disadvantage depending on the time of day or don't get to play each other at all (i.e. Americas players vs. Asian players vs. European players).
12:32 I strongly believe that, despite fighting not even being started by that moment, day 17 is already a resign territory. Spoilers below: Poland has absolutely no response for two medium tanks, and StarFlash can destroy left flank and repair his bunch of damaged units on the right. Also SF forces Poland to pull part some forces to interrupt the cap in the center, and, more importantly, to spend additional time on it - while timer difference is already 3 minutes (SF ended day 17 with 7:15 while PL had 4:25 after his day 16 turn) it gets critical after this turn, with PL having only 2:15 at the end of day 17 - more than 2 minutes lost in a single turn. And you never want to get this close to playing on increment right before decisive turns begin, especially if opponent takes an initiative - being reactive means that you can do much less planning on enemy phase. And double that if you are already at huge positional disadvantage.
Kindle's SCOP on awbw actually only takes into account the number of cities capped and does not include the HQ. You can see this with the damage calculator at ca. 9:27 showing 14.
Man i love that live queue have an official mmr now because i will always play live game even though im not that good. But its kinda sad that we are not going alot of action for some of the legend in live queue like voice of akasha and incuggarch (of course no grimm guy) because these player are a meticulous planner and maybe live play is not they're cup of tea. But one can hope right? Maybe this legend will make some play in live queue someday.
No one really is on the level of Starflash right now. He is too strong on top of being the fastest top player as well. He is the Magnus Carlsen of Advance Wars.
@@TurnOntheBrightLights. Just barely. I had all sorts of misplays: overextending, not building before time ran out, a misclick and not capturing. The replay's hilarious, but I'm still proud of it. Lol
Awesome slugfest. Had they been up against anyone else, they would have wiped them immediately. These two feisty players actually managed to make each other stall and go low on time though.
16:00 about here is where Poland is done. His unit composition is mostly infantry with no backbone. 18:00 here he is overcompensating with a neo tank but thats just one vs many 20:00 history repeats itself. Poland lost to the Blitz. It was over fast. Sending infantry vs tanks...
I have to imagine that part of the reason for the rapid acceptance of the Live ladder is that you CAN get the games in a lot faster because...you know...live.
The calm before the fighting where they were shuffling their units into formation was suspenseful
I just want to point out that grimm guy is 3-0 on the live ladder.
WE WANT GRIMM GUY
All hail Grimn Guy!
Our hero is blessed by the rng

I don't even play competitive AW, but I agree that live matches are a lot of fun to watch. It's so interesting to see how people perform on the clock.
What's really impressive is starflash is using artillery in live with 40 unit and still comes up ahead in time management !

roll up to the map shop, see a bag of coins, grab it, Po1and rolls up and slaps your shit
"man, I won, give up"
"No"

I loved that Poland let that go the distance.
At 12:05 you said "Poland makes the first move, he takes the city" but starflash took the opposite city two turns before ._.
That was probably his biggest mistake of the video

Medium tanks and artillery actually made the difference for starflash. It didn't feel like the battle copters did that much
Watching these two powerhouses go at it is and always will be a treat. I can’t wait for the next one!

I think Kindle was a waste of a CO here since Urban Blight was never used. Rachel would have been much better with all the clumping.

Somebody commented that Grimm Guy is 3-0 in live ladder 😉
I love how Starflash whos basically the master of Advance Wars's equivalent to trench warfare uses the army based of France
Best thing about the live league is that there is always a game to watch of you don't feel like playing.
Poland is a great player but he is obviously on a lower level compared to Starflash in live games.
He should learn when to concede with dignity.
he too bitter for that lol@@ev6558
@@ev6558 I think its fine because starflash actually said he wanted to win by rout. Unfortunately he forgot about that cap limit
@@ev6558 winning by rout is very satisfying

I just had the craziest Live League game last night. Von Bolt vs Sasha, went down to the day limit.
Did you win? :D

This was nerve wracking and exhilarating at the same time.
ADVANCE WARS SWEEP

Just goes to show why he's my favorite player.
Poland is so fuckin good I know this just lit a fire under him. Can’t wait to see the rematch
Always glad to more lore to the community
Deejus vs Mangs is also a good one

When two fast player are fighting against eachother this surely it will be a good match and it is.
The end, tis but a flesh wound I'll keep fighting.
That is some Red vs Blue levels of Rivalry there.
This is a nice, cute game between legends. Thanks for showing it.
Starflash is the goat of awbw.
Top tier players going head to head is always a great time.
It's like seeing Kaijus go at each other's throats (Like Godzilla or Gamora).
Breaking news: Poland invades the live MMR leaderboards
Ah yes. Starflash vs. Po1and.
Hey Mangs, I’m looking to get into AWBW. How can I acquire the sound add-one that you have?

@@Mangs1337 many thanks!
Awesome game and commentary !
Loving the high pace commentary, units moving fast, tons of actions under 25min 👏🏻
StarFlash vs some guy Mangs beat a few days ago...
Live match is manliest match.
Mangs please start using the replay viewer again instead of AWBW's default one. It spoils the ending of the match when super powers become ready.
I'll try to have this fixed
Whats with incugarch?
Omg...Starflash vs Po1and....
Watch for me on those Live Leaderboards. Currently Top 10 standard. Hoping to match against you!
Å, jeg elsker Kindle :'(
Live is official? You mean how I exclusively play? Thank god...
Two of my favorite competitors, but you spoiled the winner half way through the match when one of their super power is ready.
tell walker to sort it out
Up!

Nah nah, Andy should be T2 in that map.
