For the people struggling with the spine.004 ERROR. It occurs because it is disconnected from the spine.003 bone.
    Follow these steps:
    1. Find the spine.003 bone (neck) and click the upper joint.
    2. Right click > Snap > Cursor to Selected
    3. Then select the spine.004 bone and Right Click > Snap > Selection to Cursor
Voila, your bones are now together and the rig will be generated as intended. Hope this helps!

anyone who is having the spine 004 problem, it's because the two points for the neck and spine need to be in the same place. select one and snap the cursor to it then select the other and snap it to the cursor then the rig should generate.

After hours of trying to figure out why my rigging wouldn't work I tried it the way you showed and it worked. All other videos I watched weren't doing it this way. I cannot believe it worked, but I am super HAPPY that it did. Thank you so much for the detailed explanation and this different way of rigging! This is amazing

I can't tell you how much this helped me! Thank you so much! We're supposed to create a 3 min animatic in my 3D class and I totally forgot how to do this! I tried doing this with my characters that I made from scratch and NOTHING worked! Now I know that if I watch this video again I'll be able to go back and re-rig my characters! Thank you!!!

If you follow these steps perfectly it will work perfectly. I tried this with multiple meshes parented to the same rig simultaneously and got amazing results. i think that blender should consider a few less steps in the rigging process in the future.. but seriously great tutorial I'm gonna share this with everyone.

A tip: when you first add the human rig and its size is too small or too big, you can go into edit mode then select all the bones by pressing A and then scale it up or down, doing so will keep all the transforms 1 on all axes.

To Set Parent > With automatic weights, you have to Select first the object and then the armature holding shift.
then when you press ctrl P it appears the automatic weights option.
The armature must be the active object to get the options you are looking for. You have the mesh as the active object.
(lighter orange color is the active object)

Your videos are just excellent. They have helped me so much in understanding the rigging process. One issue I'm having is that with the mesh you're using, I'm having some trouble getting all the edges of the bones to rest inside the mesh. I think I'm scaling it about where yours are. Wondering if you have any suggestions. Thanks!
