  • On the advice of another TH-camr, I’ll try to find him to thank, I bought a pack of the cheapest I could find. They’re actually better than the stock chain or a couple of the brand name.

Thanks for the review sir. Could you provide the link for the CSC-R55 on Amazon? I just went through all 20 pages for Upstart Components on Amazon and was unable to find it. I need a cheaper alternative for my MS170. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I thought I replied to this but I don't see it. CSC R55 in search brought it right up for me.
      Let me try the link.

seems to work, I'm still loving them, I'm only on my 3rd and that's because I hit metal again. I abuse the heck out of them and the saw, cutting dirty roots off stumps, whatever.

walmart sells the Up Start brand online too although I don't see the R55 on there right at the moment ... I've been using these UpStarts on a 16" Homelite for the last 4 years (bought a six pack at the beginning of pandemic)... it may last until that saw is dead. No more parts for Homelite gas saws (at least newer models... vintage stuff has 3rd party parts).
Up Starts work great and I've cut many cords of hardwood since starting with them.

Update on the chains....i messed the first one up on the little green mill. I didn't have the set screws tight enough and it came loose and touched the side breaking a few teeth, not the chain's fault. that was a day or two after this video. Since putting the second one on, I milled a couple more benches, dropped a dozen spruce trees, limbed and sectioned two of them,. Today I dropped and bucked a face cord of maple with one white birch that was in the way, the chain hasn't needed tightening or sharpening. It's still spitting chips like the first day. I wish they made 36 inch for the new 661, I did buy some 8ten for it. $20 per. I'll make a video when I try them.
