Favorite game by far. Went to Babbages one day to buy a NES game that they didnt have. (cant remember which one) Ended up just buying this one having never heard of it or played it. Took over my world for a few years. Thanks for posting!
2:36. Oh man.... this entire soundtrack is gold but for some reason the town theme REALLY takes me back to 1990. What I wouldn’t give to revisit those days....
A few years ago, I was playing with the idea of approaching Nintendo to license this character for an unofficial sequel. I didn't go through with the idea X-D
It left a HUGE impression with me as a kid. I only got to the dolphin part back then - so I returned to Star Tropics 30 years later to beat it. And boy did I love the game!
Still got original NES and this game as an original cartridge hidden in my closet. Played this game alot back when I was a kid; I remember getting in to the spaceship but can't remember if I ever beat the game or not, it's been so many years.
WOW! Dude....all of your downloads are amazing. Totally love each and every one of them. This is my childhood I swear :-) Spending the day listening to each and every one of them!
It's amazing how many different great vibes I get from StarTropics. The different overworld sections just remind me of a general beach/ocean theme, while the dungeons sorta reminds me of being at Sea World or some kind of big indoor aquarium exhibit/museum, then there's the Southern Cross theme which of course gives me more tiki / witch doctor vibes But then there's the caves and the castle and graveyard portions, and then the spaceship at the end. Quite a wide variety of vibes
Played this on my NES, it was a pretty brutal game, specially difficult at the latest levels, where being touched by foes meant to lose about 1/4 of your health bar and the most powerful weapons available.
This stereo cover is absolutely incredible, HOWEVER... I couldn't help but feel soured when the Slideshow track fades out before the actual closer part of the song. :< Otherwise, I've been blasting this in my car all summer. Thanks for an amazing job!
First game I ever bought for my OWN hard-earned cash as a kid. I couldn't have been more than 11 years old at the time. Took me almost a year to beat the damn thing. In spite of it's somewhat stiff and clunky movement controls, it was a great game. I absolutely loved it. Dungeon music was great!
22:14 that shakey bass... scared the crap out of me... I don't know how many times I was listening to this over and over and completely missed it but this time i heard it and it sounded like the sound something makes when you are getting hurt or poisoned or something.
This is a very good game. It's long and hard though, and at times it's actually quite scary. The music adds much to the atmosphere. The tile-based movement in places is very unique, and a quite frustrating at times. I never managed to beat the game. I remember being lost at sea in the submarine, without a clue where to go. There was a dolphin at one point, but I don't remember much more. I guess I'll have to retry some day!
I have a theory: Nintendo wanted to made a game very America-like (there's a video about this) they putted a lot of references of America like historical dates (the id's of sub-c) They decided to name the first town coral-cola has a reference to Coca-Cola but then decided to add the last word -Cola" to technically any island (Sorry for my bad english)
Ahh, games from the era where everything wasn't handed to you on a silver platter like in most of today's games. Not all the games from that era were good, but the ones that were are worth remebering.
Overworld, Town, Dungeon and New Chapter are so good. But the top of awesomeness in this game are Hidden Area and Graveyard.😍 I can listen to them for hours. Hidden Area feels like if you are entering a fairy magical place. And I enjoyed so much the tension of that music at the graveyard level (my absolutely favorite level from this game)👏
Yeah, it was very much hit and miss. Thankfully I was lucky to score two awesome gems simply by going by cover art: Startropics and The Guardian Legend.
Bleh, my comment got deleted for some reason... Repeat: This was one of the greatest NES games I ever owned/played. I must have replayed this dozens of times, it never gets old. And to this day, I'm still pissed the main character of this game never made it to the Smash roster.
This was one of my Top 5 tracks, tied at #1 with so many others. ;o Overall a simple game in a sense, but a classic and one of those games where being positive and striving forth are the keys as well as never giving up. :33
Both Overworld and Mica are corrupted tracks. This is in the original ROM and was never fixed in any of the re-releases. Listen to @0:45 you can hear one of the instruments craps out and comes back in at @1:15, off time, which is just horrible and I can't believe that made it through QA. The Mica track is missing it's bass line. Check this video for details on what is going on, and the fix th-cam.com/video/EmUvGH2HMuc/w-d-xo.html Any chance of getting a re-upload with the fixed tracks?
I've had this theme song stuck in my head for two days. TY for having its entirety here, and saving my sanity! Do they have the game available to download by shopping on my Wii?
I guess I shall at this point, this will have to be put in the download link version once the corrections are made, I would need to have the NSF be made into a NSFe with the tracks organized with time stamps and tracks named and the order they should go in. I will be getting a buddy to help me with that.
This really was such a good game. I rented it the first time, but thankfully I had a Nintendo Power subscription and they included a big coverage of it. The sequel was okay, and certainly had some interesting differences, but for whatever reason emulates poorly. I admit I never played the sequel when the system was still going cause I just never got around to it, and I kinda wish I had it like I do the original. Surprised this doesn't have more Likes, though, it's a good OST and plenty of good memories tied to this music.
FurtiveTactician I listened to all titles from bases loaded and i don't see any resemblence except maybe the first 2-3 seconds of bases loaded 3, then it's completely different!
Just a little bit of constructive feedback, you use too much reverb. For example, in Star Tropics the tone/pitch of the square channels sound overly colored as a result. For other NSFs with more complicated compositions I have noticed that melodies/rhythms/bass-lines in the rear of the mix are washed out.

It WAS pretty awesome being a kid in the 80's and 90's.
Especially the 80s.
Agreed. The early 90's in particular were especially awesome, IMO.
Or having a kid in the 80's or 90's. My TI-99/a wasn't enough for my son. He grew up to develop Hyperspin.
As a late mid to late 80's child, I would have to agree.
