My father used to own a video game shop and he died in February this gets me emotional but in a good way as he loved Nintendo and had a passion for games the Zelda music hits the heart heavy. Thank you for making this for all of us.
Sorry to hear about your pops, I know how hard that is. Your dad sounded like a really cool guy. My dad was not a video game guy at all, all sports, but he was a great guy and still bought me systems and games growing up because he knew I loved it. Shoutout to all the great dads out there and Merry Christmas!
@@ToxicTurquoise454 It could've been because we were kids. No responsibilities, someone taking care of us. Now we can do that for others! The world will be that again. If not for us, then those we care for! 😊
I'm working at a food bank that helps students at my university, Today's shift is slow, so I'm just chilling and listening to this fire playlist. Absolutely love these tracks. This is my childhood right here.
Zelda ocarina of time intro music...man that song never fails to get a tear in my eye, I remember it clearly, that emotion when my brother and I took it out of the box and started playing, surely a masterpiece of a game that never got topped in my whole life
SAME here brother, same here. It surprised me the first time it made me tear up. But it's amazing how many memories in your life get locked into a single piece of music. When I hear that intro, I think about how old I was... the grade in school I was in... my friends... my extracurricular activities... it just pulls that entire era of my life fully back into focus as if I'm there again, and I LOVE that. Without those games, or this great music... those times would likely be nothing more than a nebulous haze that I would struggle to remember even ten percent of. With music like this, I vividly remember it all.
RARE was one of the best when it came to soundtracks and music back in the day. So easy to distinguish them from other tracks, theres just something that says "this is RARE".
Listening to this playlist and reading through the comments brought me so much joy. It reminded me of simpler times before the internet was a big thing, split screen gaming with my siblings and not a care in the world. Couldn't have picked a better 1st song to have on this nostalgia filled playlist than Dire Dire Docks.
I remember, very clearly, the first time I saw a videogame in 3D. It was Super Mario 64, and I had little idea what I was really doing. But I could make that plumber move, son; and when I got to the first aquatic level and heard the beautiful melody that opens this compilation, all I could do was sit there and listen. If I shut my eyes, I can almost believe I'm back in that old living room.
This is amazing and hurts my soul all at the same time. Childhood sounds to bring a nostalgic vibe but of course sad of the passing of time that I'll never get to experience those for the first time again.
So true... nostalgia is like a drug. With the right amount, it makes me happy... cheerful... more pleasant to be around... and just happier over all. But too much of it and I become sad and downtrodden, it's definitely a balancing act. The pain that comes with knowing you can *never* go back, or how good it once was, is also why each day of our lives so meaningful. Just keep the quote from OOT (from Sheik) in your mind: "The flow of time is always cruel. It's speed seems different for each person, but no one can change it. *A thing that doesn't change with time is a memory of younger days.* It is something that grows over time, a true friendship. A feeling in the heart that becomes stronger over time. The passion of friendship will soon blossom into a righteous power and through it, you will know which way to go. A childish mind will turn to noble ambition, young love will become deep affection. The clear water's surface reflects growth. Time passes, people move... like a river's flow, it never ends..." -Sheik
This is easily the best N64 compilation I’ve listened to. I miss playing these games so much and yet when I load them up on the Switch emulator I don’t get the same buzz. I don’t want to play these games. I want to be 12 again, living through the late 90s early 00s playing these for the first time.
Absolutely fantastic playlist. Amazing to think that we all have these shared memories of playing these games. The passage of time can't remove that deep longing for a bygone era. Thank you. The only thing that could make this playlist better is anything from Bomberman Hero!
I never owned an N64 but I didn't realize how related the soundfont was on every game. Most of the tracks here remind me of Zelda and Mario 64 for that reason. These are awesome.
Honestly did not expect that I would be vibing this hard, I'd forgotten how incredible this era was. It just goes to show what people can create when working with relatively strict limitations !
Dude i agree with every comment, aproving this as the best N64 compilation out there, even Glover's OST is here, i was not expecting that one. Much appreciated that you created this for us.
I've been listening to this while I grade reports and it's just been a soothing ground to return to when the student's work inevitably makes me do a deep sigh. 😞 You've earned a sub for that alone.
Really appreciate you including some tracks from the (often overlooked!) Maro Golf soundtrack. I used to play it all the time with my grandfather and this is the first time I've heard anything from the OST since he passed away. It hurts, but it brings back some happy memories too. Thank you.
It’s truly a gift to see music connecting so many people. Koji Kondo is well deserving of all the love and praise. Everyone in that Music department deserves that much. He loved us all enough to give us this gift. I cherish it now, and always. I love this music and the music loves us all; therefore, I love you all too.
I nearly forgot to thank Grant Kirkhope as well!! Edit: hiiiii I’m back again to add to my incredible list!! Yasunori Mitsuda and of course Nobou Uematsu! Thank you!!
Zelda music just hits something different, I've got a lump in my throat and tears rolling down my cheek thinking of a time long gone. I was told by people growing up that video games don't mean anything and you shouldn't waste your time on them, go out, make friends.. but I actually miss those times, & sure, some of the people but honestly I was happiest in the world of Hyrule back then.
I've made friends as an adult over video games. I have a full-time job and function as an adult... but video games are a peaceful retreat from the world, if only for an hour or 2. If you haven't played breath of the wild I highly recommend it if you can. In my opinion, tears of the Kingdom was overhyped (same gameplay as breath of the Wild, good story though). I grew up with Pokemon. Fell out of it because it was "kid stuff" then got back into it years later. I now play with my nephews. Scarlet and violet are the best games since red/blue to me. It even has a good story!
The beauty in this music, the nostalgia from seemingly better and more chill times... it hits so good and pleasantly in so many different ways. Edit: Thank you for not having a zillion ads like some other channels do -- think i had only one.
Gentlemen, I've cracked the nostalgia code: Have kids. Play these games with them. My 4 year old hums the song of storms in bed and my 1.5 yo hums eponas song. My 4 year old has 15 stars he got without me touching ths controller. Every morning he gets up and asks if ill play majoras mask (the zelda games are still a bit beyond him to play but he still likes them). When they have quiet time he asks me to play this playlist. The key to meaningful nostalgia is sharing it with the next generation.
Every N64 music compilation: *starts with Dire Dire Docks*
Everyone: "Correct."
I never liked this level. But I love the music. I have it in Piano sheet music and it's fun to play.
Seriously the comment I came looking for.
The opening music to OOT would also be acceptable
🤝
@@sartorius73 Do you think you could send me the sheet music if I gave you my email? Or is there a link you could send me?

@bengarrison7780 that's a really weird comment to make. Hope your life turns around.

They are. The world felt so much happier back then. We lived in peace 😊

These games didn't have any business having soundtracks this good. We truly were living in the good old days in the mid to late 90s with these games.
Can't go wrong if you have Dire Dire Docks as the very first track. 10/10
Exactly what I thought too. Such an iconic track
it's a banger always and forever
as soon as i heard it i was like "thank you" to myself out loud
Couldn't agree with you more
Holy sh!t, fr fr, that song started playing and I was like "damn, nostalgic playlist might be the most accurate title to a youtube video, ever".

Absolutely love these tracks. This is my childhood right here.
they knew what they were doing when they started with Dire Dire Docks. hooked
Zelda ocarina of time intro music...man that song never fails to get a tear in my eye, I remember it clearly, that emotion when my brother and I took it out of the box and started playing, surely a masterpiece of a game that never got topped in my whole life
Same here! That and Majora's Mask for me. And most Nintendo 64 and Gamecube game. I tear up too.
OoT intro music is just... aaah, so happy to know it means the same for so many people out there.

OoT was the first thing I ever fell in love with. It never gets old for me. Zelda fan for life.
omg same here! I've played some amazing games on a variety of systems but no game has a place in my soul like Ocarina of Time 💖
RARE was one of the best when it came to soundtracks and music back in the day. So easy to distinguish them from other tracks, theres just something that says "this is RARE".

This has been like a $20,000 hospital visit for my mental health,
you're helping people a lot, thanks heaps hope this stays free.
I like how he payed attention that the last songs are outro songs because the playlist is now over.
I forgot how much of a banger Rainbow Road Maro Kart 64 was :)
Wasnt expecting Space Station Silicon Valley to be in here, omg I love

When little Link turned into adult Link, I was like omg. It's like two separate games in one cartridge.
Probably one of the best N64 comps.
I was in Euston station in London around 6 months ago and there was a guy on the piano playing dire dire docks, made me smile.
This is amazing and hurts my soul all at the same time. Childhood sounds to bring a nostalgic vibe but of course sad of the passing of time that I'll never get to experience those for the first time again.
