  • THE TRUTH: 'Anti-Slice' Driver Vs Golf Lesson | Callaway Big Bertha B21 Review
In this video Rick Shiels PGA golf professional heads out to The Marriott Worsley Park Golf & Country Club to review the new Callaway Golf Big Bertha B21 driver.
The Callaway Golf Big Bertha B21 driver promises to hit the golf ball longer and straighter no matter how you swing it! Rick not only tries the driver for himself but also gets an average golfer who slices the golf ball to try the driver! Thanks to Jason for taking part
Rick also gives the golfer a golf lesson to see if he can cure the slice better than the Callaway driver!

google coaches near you, you'll find one with tons and tons of glowing 5 star reviews. I'm not saying they come a dime a dozen, but chances are you'll find one nearby who is almost as good as rick (no knock to rick, he's obviously one of the best, golf is just an amazing sport so lots of people are super passionate/knowledgeable about it)....reviews are key, and prices don't actually fluctuate between the best and the worst and they are cheaper than you'd think if you get a package. About the same price as a round of golf.

Took me years and years to finally understand I needed lessons, not new equipment. So when our course closed down I took the opportunity to take a lesson once or twice a week for 8 weeks. I went from around a 13 down to where I currently am a 6.2 about a year and a half later. I absolutely enjoy the game now because I feel like I'm really playing golf not just getting lucky week to week, or unlucky.... Take lessons and commit to it. Well... Or he just made them disregard of good driver?! I have tried it (Never slice the ball myself) just wanted to try it when the Callaway-guy came with it. And the distance was massive with a tight dispersion pattern. (It blows my Speedzone out of the park) Granted, I did change the shaft (But who doesn't try other shafts during a fitting?!) Didn't change the driver... Still using my Speedzone. (Too new to change and really good as it is.) But if I was in the market for a new driver. The B21 would be among the finalist, that's for sure! (Don't dismiss it before you try it, folks!)
With that said. If you slice the ball in the same fashion as Jason did. Take a couple of lessons first. Don't buy ANYTHING!

The wife and I got into Golf around 6wks ago. I've never played any type of golf...unless you count putt putt. No clue where to start, no clue how to get along. Stumbled across this channel when searching for tips. I've watched so many of Rick's videos over the last 2mo - even stopping to watch as I'm on the practice range. I went from not being able to hit the ball and when I did, the ball would take an immediate right or left hand sharp turn. Yesterday, the wife and I played our first 9 holes. I'm not "good" by any means - I had 1 par lol - but we had an absolute blast, and the game is coming along. Straight shots,, i cam actually hit off the tee, and seem like i know somewhat of what im doing. Thanks Rick for the channel!

The best part for me and probably most here was that you put the club in the hands of someone who is all honesty is like most of us on the course.
The summary of doing this is honestly to seek a lesson(s) from a pro before forking out serious cash on what could be a gimmick from the PR agency for the brand.

This confirms what people have been saying for years. I will say that I have found newer clubs that feel better in the hand and inspire more confidence, but none that fixed my swing. For that I turned to lessons and a LOT of practice and playing. Like everything in life, you need to put the work in to see the results you desire. Nice work Rick! The big brands make too much money promising false results, golf pros should be making this money instead. The technology available for lessons ( GC Quad, etc...) is much more helpful than the “technology” in newer clubs (a simple weight, club shape or material).

I haven't watched every video of yours Rick but of all the one's I have watched this one has the best advice, and that's getting a lesson from a PGA Pro teacher. In 2016 I was ready to give it up. I never took lessons so I got lucky found an incredible instructor, but he falls more into the category of 'swing coach' with his style of teaching. Kirk Jones out of Jacksonville, Florida. He's written 2 books and a lot of what he has written will be in the new PGA teaching manual as they are attempting to standardize instruction with proven techniques including terminology. He has a new book/manual with a sports psychologist. Video and Flightscope at every lesson makes for very fast improvement. Inside six months I shot 79 at a course I mostly shot over 100, and the best was 97. I also noticed this was the first video - that I have seen anyway - where you mention swing path. That's something I never knew about until I took lessons. I was slapping at the ball from the outside. Changing my grip ( I had a 10 finger baseball grip) hitting the ball from the inside & getting stiff iron shafts instead of the regular shafts I had, I picked up 20 plus yards on every club and over 30 on the driver in the first month. Going from a weak fade to a strong high draw off the tee is orgasmic quite frankly, especially when you start hitting them consistently. Of course 'consistency' comes and goes anyway, mostly goes in my case. I still take a lesson here and there when the swing gets out of whack. The feedback from video and the numbers on the Flightscope make it so much easier to see the bad habits I had picked up in the last several rounds and adjust. Now it's the never-ending search to go lower and I'm going to get fit for a new Evnroll. The best money I ever spent, in my case I see it as 'invested', in having fun on the golf course is lessons. I only wish I had done it years ago. You have the best golf videos on TH-cam BTW. The production and the cool music makes for an entertaining and informative product. You also teach basically the same techniques my instructor does, except 'shaft lean' to deloft which he teaches and I can hit my 60 degree 85 yards accurately now. Used to be 60 yards max and only God knew where it would end up.

I had a life changing discovery in my swing which was simply tilt(to the target) turn your shoulder into the ball and then literally swing like your skipping a stone across a lake. (Crunch right side and almost side arm motion with your right arm)
My offset driver is now a piece of junk and I BOMB my now Cobra F8. According to yardage at my local course, I drove two over 320(no where near close to my average). I had some wind with me that day but compared to my prior 220 with my offset driver, that's an insane improvement.
I also have to thank Tom Saguto for that discovery. This is def the best and most entertaining channel but that dude makes the golf swing ridiculously easy.

Bought one recently. Had in on the course 6 or 7 rounds. I’m not a natural slicer, but do feel the it tends to take the right side of the course out of play more so than my previous Callaway. It’s not a cure, but I do think it’s a help.

Great review, I was already looking it up for my junior golfer when I saw your review.
I corrected my slice by watching your instructional video. I generally hit low to mid 90’s and after watching your video, and not even going to the range but straight to the course and implementing your techniques, I played the course from the middle of the fairway, was able to draw around the dreaded dog-leg lefts and finished my round with a 77! ABSOLUTELY remarkable from just watching and following your techniques!

  • @Grunt21Tennessee

It has straightened out my ever so often slice (when I get tired) for sure. It’s not a cure all but it does indeed help. It’s a point and shoot driver setup for me. The distance is further for me also due to the lesser spin. The driver has received some great reviews overall. I came from playing the Mavrik Max. It’s (B21) a bit better in my opinion than the Max.
To each their own. Golf is such a mind game. If it helps you hit it straighter and you believe it, then it does. Go with it.
