In this video Rick Shiels PGA golf professional teams up with Golfbidder to build a set of the best golf clubs ever!
Rick picks a driver, 3 wood, hybrid, irons, wedge and putter and then gets out to Clitheroe golf club in North West England to play some golf with the clubs. Rick will have some tough decisions to make, will he use golf clubs from Callaway Golf, TaylorMade Golf, Titleist Golf, Mizuno Golf, Ping Golf, Cleveland Golf, Srixon Golf, Cobra Golf, Nike Golf, Wilson Golf, Odyssey Golf or even a Scotty Cameron putter?
These golf clubs may not promise to fix your golf slice, stop hooking the golf ball or even hit the golf ball further. However the clubs that Rick has chosen have all had a massive influence on modern golf. For more information about Golfbidder visit www.golfbidder.co.uk

I’ve just got into the game of golf and I pretty much have a full bag of Callaway Big Berthas. I even have the driver with the original headcover. These have been passed down to me by my dad and I love them.

I remember my dad getting the Great Big Bertha in 97, and as an 11 year old I thought it was the height of golf technology. I still remember playing with him that summer and just feeling like I was crushing it for miles.

The great big bertha war bird is so iconic. I remember seeing that club when I was in a pro shop at 7 years old. I thought it was one of the coolest things I had ever seen. The sound it makes when you have a good strike is so pure.

And I'm the one guy that couldn't find one with a shaft that fit. Club always produced too much backspin. Crushed drive on a fast course would roll out like a full gap wedge. Could not miss a fairway but it was 30 yds short of my Macgregor.

Nice video. Without question one of the best things I've ever done for my golf game is getting properly fitted for some Ping irons. I'm a white-dot and I have the G20 irons. That fixed my nasty slice with a quickness and made golf *a lot* more fun. Yes, you have to spend a bit of money for the whole set, but it was worth every penny to me.

  • @Ruinsthename

I never had the odyssey two ball. Back in the early 2000's when it was new, I tried it out and i gotta say it felt phenomenal. Not many putters have the feel that this one has. But I couldn't hole anything with it and frankly the price was outrageous. Especially for a putter that I couldn't aim with. Now, quite possibly, the main problem in this equation was me, but we all have our preferences and I've always liked blade style putters better.

I still have my Callaway 8° Great Big Bertha War Bird driver from the late 90s. I no longer use it, but I used to bomb it. The best drive I can remember hitting with it was green high on a 370 yard par 4. The big Bertha takes me back to a primary school aged child at holiday golf clinics, I was younger and smaller than everyone else, but hit that big Bertha further than anyone! Only issue with Callaway is Ive had the head snap off 3 seperate drivers. Also a shout out to the bubble shaft Taylor mades

I still play with the clubs I played with during the 2000's. I have a Guerin Rife 2 bar putter. Titleist spin milled vokey wedges. Ping Eye 2 irons and Ping Eye 3 woods. The only newer club I have is my driver which is a Taylor Made R11s. I have had many of the newer clubs but I always went back to my old trusties.

Wow. That Great Big Bertha brings back great memories for me too. And I loved hearing the iconic "clink" sound. You always got instant feedback on whether you hit the ball pure or not. Thanks Rick. Absolutely brilliant video.
Fun fact: the name "Big Bertha" is a reference to a specific type of long-range artillery howitzer used by the German army during WWI. These guns were nicknamed "Dicke Berta" (Fat Bertha or Big Bertha) by the German soldiers as a reference to Bertha Krupp, head of the Krupp family who ran the company building these guns.
The application of the name to the golf club was quite fitting: just like the famed howitzer guns, the Big Bertha driver was known to launch a projectile a very long way indeed. 🤓

I inherited a GBB from my uncle with a graphite shaft. I set it aside after he passed, but kept it around. On a lark I took it out to the range to see if it had any life left in it. Son of Gun it went long, straight and consistent as ever! It is a credit to Callaway and their designers!
