- Context; This is my first session of the day in the GTS, but the second session in Orange Group at speedventures. I'm coming up to speed. The video covers the 2nd and 3rd 'hot' lap. He obviously should have let me pass instead of racing me. My fast lap of the day was 1:59.73

@launch. Yea, prob not. It'll probably oversteer and won't be able to put down the power in corners like all the M's. Porsches are always better balanced and have better traction of the corners.
They build to be over steering, M cars have a higher locking % diff and it's two way. But the GTS will stand against the Porsche GTS with a stiffer damper, extra power and spoiler.

I dont have a m3 but i have a e9x car, and you can drive like such an untalented douchebag and the car just takes it cause its so stable and predictable

Any vehicle that goes into dirt like that will make a cloud of dust. I really doubt he floored it.

click bait = The m3 ran itself of the road. But anyone who's ever been to a track to race or HPDE knows that this kind of "racing" happens all the time. I've personally been on both sides of it where somebody in front didn't want to let me pass and he ran off the road and visa versa. Everything's 20/20 in hindsight.
I love when I hear ppl shouting derogatory sayings from other cultures 😆 That was a classic racing in the rear view mirror mistake, fuel by a bit of ego as it seems.
Both drivers could have avoided this situation entirely; The BMW driver SHOULD have given the point by given that he was barely in control of the vehicle during most of the second lap. The Porsche driver could have dropped back, went into the hot pits to put space between him and the BMW driver. IMHO, red mist got the best of both drivers.
I'm surprised the E92 M3 pull away from you on the straight (991.1 GTS)! Must not stock (at least engine). And not sure if it was a instructed group or solo, but the M3 should've give you a point by long ago before risking everyone's life (and car). If it's an instructed group, then the instructor inside that M3 was at fault then. (I'm an instructor too)

Awesome video and great driving. To address another comment below regarding the M3 pulling on you: it happened because he was always a gear (or possibly two) lower than you coming out of turns (either because he was in auto mode on his DCT or because he was downshifting more often). Either way, you can hear your 991 pulling from low RPMs to redline on most turn exits. I bet if you were a gear lower, you'd keep up and/or out-accelerate him.

Nice driving, Dave. The BMW driver was in way over his head... He just needed to calm down and point you by. With all the skid marks, looks like a lot of guys go off this track.
I remember him saying during the DL meeting you were never close enough for him to think you were in need of a point by. How much closer do you need to be than at 2:22? Lol.

I've never heard of it but it's possible the way that thing was pulling away from Dave's 991 GTS. The really high HP cars don't really pull but a car or two on this track with all the short straights as long as you have at least 350-400HP.
the donkey M3 didn't let Porsche pass. i bet if he wasn't offroad he would've still tried to stay ahead...

The 991 did nothing other than record the M3 leaving the track. Stop trying to take credit for others' stupidity...
M3 driver had absolutely no skill, but look at how much it pulls against a 991 GTS in the straights. That's an e92 generation normally aspirated M3 as well, so modifications won't be giving it much extra power at all really.

That was great, some people don't realize it's not a race and if he would have let you pass maybe he could have followed you for a bit to learn the proper line, I don't think he hit one apex. I must admit though I was amazed that he pulled on you, wonder if it was stock, the GTS should be lighter and have about the same HP. Anyway nice driving, that was a great weekend. Were you driving the R8 as well?
***** Yeah the R8 looked great, really like how they drive and was always curious how they would do here, I drove my friends a few weeks ago, they feel very neutral and easy to control, still trying to get him to bring it to BW with me. I was driving the black E36 M3 #727 / Red group, perfect weather on Saturday, didn't get to make it Sunday.

Yeah my E36 is a dedicated track car now I just need to work out the brakes and get the suspension dialed in, it should be good for 1:51 or so but last weekend was 1:57 so I'll see if I can get my bias fixed then pull it together.
The M3 may have been ego driven but he tried, surprised that the P car could not pass him on the straight.

Both drivers had inflated egos. The M3 driver should have let the GTS driver passed, also the GTS driver should have gone out on the hot pits to obtain a gap from the M3 driver.
Personally seeing the sloppy driving of the M3 driver. I would have just backed off why risk damage to your car. It was fairly evident, he was going to have an incident long before be finally got off the track. Luckily, he had the sense not to get back on the track immediately.
You could see that coming with sloppy line through, and exiting, the esses. Yes one of the problems I've seen with SV run groups (not the advanced ones though) too much ego. People do stupid things.

That's my buddy's car. That car is stupid fast at ACS he did a 1:49 last month but m3s struggle to turn. The pcars turn so easily!

He made up 4 seconds in 2 minutes (1 lap) - that's a much faster lap time - e.g. better driving skills by the Porsche driver.
I'd sit back and be careful seeing someone so reactive ahead of me, over driving their vehicle. Plus it makes for great TH-cam content.

Yes you were faster and he should have let you pass but that time in a 991 gts is nothing to brag about. My times are better than that while drifting the whole track in a 3600 pound sedan. It's all about perspective. And then there are fwd Hondas doing 1:56 laps out there lol.

***** the guy in the FRS is a pro driver who was testing for a company. Knowing that, I was expecting a save and for a split second I was thinking of just running past him but as soon as I realized it wasn't happening this time, I stood on the brakes.
The GTS is no slouch! It pretty much is ready out of the box (maybe like you said some tires would help) while having all the creature comforts haha. Nothing wrong with having fun with a daily driver as I do as well. Good time on your part - I don't even get a chance to run a best time due to traffic but I'm not gonna get angry and call other people out on it. It's a track day, it's going to be crowded and things will happen. Personally, I don't even go for lap times much - if you watch my videos all I do is slide around everywhere for fun lol.
I'll probably have to try to get a best lap time at a less crowded event one of these days.
Do you drive with full TC off?

Personally, it's more fun for me to drive slower with TC off than to try and drive as fast as I can with TC on....there will be a period where you will be slow as heck, but as you develop the skillset you will eventually get faster for sure. Plus its just way more fun being all over the place and catch it LOL.
@E90, that was only his second time so his time is pretty good. He also asked you how many times you've driven there, what you drive (modded?), and your best time and you didn't answer. You claim to go faster even sliding around yet from two of your videos it looks like you've done over 2 mins at best and also have more experience on that track. Your m3 also sounds modded. What's your best time?
Bj Tormon this video was a 2:03 - my fastest time with a mis-shift and drifts was 2:01.003 in 3700 lbs with a fully loaded sedan and a moonroof. My mods are kw suspension, and brake pads and an OEM modded exhaust on street tires. No tune, no bbk, not a ton of parts. I'm pretty sure if my car was a little lighter, had a little better tires, had a little better braking (all of what the porsche has) I'm in sub 2 territory.

But if you look at the video, the M3 was never actually in a position to be taken over by the Porsche. The gts driver is an idiot. The only time that he was close enough, he tried to take him unsafely from the inside into a diminishing corner to which the M3 pulled away anyways. Sure the M3 was slower but he wasn't close enough to just let the guy pass. The M3 couldn't handle that hump corner at all, kept losing time on it both laps.
+essel23fly Actually you are wrong. The Porsche GTS was obviously much faster as it closed the gap to the M3 in less than half a lap. The M3 driver was pushing his car beyond it's limits to try and stay in front. He was trying to match the 991's late breaking to keep from getting passed and it bit him in the arse.

Its pretty obvious the BMW driver is more capable in a lesser car then the DB in the GT3. If you want to pass him you dont sit back fifty feet and bitch about his "blocking". Any capable driver in a GT would have set up a pass and been by him in the first minute. And btw, in reference to your earlier reply; ive raced, not track day, every west coast track for years and dont play video games. Im certain that if you two switched cars he would lap you within 20 minutes.
it's a GTS, not GT3. M3 wouldn't have a chance, at all, against a GT3
the simple fact that the E92 M3 pulled on the 991 GTS in the straights tells me that M3 had significant mods. Cant say what track mods it had but def a significant power increase.
