Love the list, but would like to suggest the FIRST battle between Wing Zero (w/ Zechs) and Epyon (w/ Heero) as an honorable mention. Since both pilots were using the Zero system for the first time, not only was the battle particularly intense, but it drove both of them past their breaking points. I particularly love the end of that duel, after they ejected, with Zechs' feebly attempting to shoot Heero before collapsing from mental and physical exhaustion.
Seed was a stable of the Gundam series for me. the idea of two friends. who separate, only to find themselves on opposite sides of war, really made the series stand out for me. Authran. Fighting for the memory of his mother lost in the Bloody Valentine tragedy, and Kira, the gentile boy who fought for nothing more then protecting his friends, both of them, racked with grief and pain, as they totally rip the others machines apart. it was and remains one of the best fights ever animated, and makes the whole show, and how it shows that War is an evil, terrible force, all the better.
Also. Number 1, Totally agree with you. that fight was amazing. but Shero winning had nothing to do with overconfidence. the Guff pilot (I cannot spell his name) sacrificed himself to take down the Guntank. he knew he was killing himself the second he committed to that move, that's what made it his victory, it didn't matter if he died, he was saving the people on the shuttle. in the sense of completing his impossible mission, he won the fight, in the sense that he was killed, he lost. but really considering the damage he did, it's very hard to hand Shero the official victory.

These guys totally misunderstood the EZ8 vs Gouf fight. Norris called launched a flare because he knew he was going to die fighting the 08th. He was actually on the up, but was caught off guard when he realized who the Gundam pilot was. In the end despite being killed his mission was a success despite being a single Gouf vs several Gundams and GunTanks.
Big 0 vs Big Duo was the turning point in the series in which it is hinted that there is something bigger going on. Schwarzwald figures out what really is happening in the plot or at least it is implied. At this point Alex Rosewater starts to unfold his plan as a result of this battle.
Actually Noris was not over confident, he sent out the flare that states he wouldn’t return and acknowledged that he found the place where he would die, also he could have killed Shiro at the end but instead went for the Guntank to protect the medic ship from getting shot down.
Unfortunately, Gundam Thunderbolt's battle did nothing to impact the plot (war)... what we got was intense but it was two experimental suits going at it on a remote destroyed colony. They were set up to be insignificant grunts on both sides that were struggling to survive the much greater war of 0079. Regardless of who won, the impact to the story wouldn't of changed.
Phil Dog Jazz was very fitting. The destroyed colony made piloting through it feel like jazz in how shredded the paths were. The whole sense of war being chaotic also gave off a very jazz feel and sadness of the conflict also gives off a blues and jazz vibe in reality... War isn't nice and if you follow the flow to other songs you would be shot down instantly.
Phil Dog why it make zero sense? The way they match the song with the scene is really good i think, the groovy duel + suits battle scene really pumped me up, if you know what i mean.
It may have crappy plot and characterization (especially in the second season) but I think Inaho from Aldnoah Zero outsmarting the arrogant Orbital Knights and exploiting their weaknesses and overdependence on the Aldnoah Drive was really cool. And I really liked how the RX-0 literally karate chopped the Neo Zeong.

This is wrong, Norris is not overconfident, he's made his gambit to finish his mission. During the fight he even held Shiro hostage and realized it's only a matter of time before he reboots his ez8 then Shiro shouts his ward's name. Norris dedicated his life for the siblings, especially for Aina and respects her decision to have a "lover". That's why he tried to avoid killing him but still resolute to do his mission.
Say what you will about the list, but one thing is very clear here... #1 is undeniable. My favorites are (in no particular order): Ez8 vs Gouf - Gundam 08th MS Team Wing Zero vs Epyon - Gundam Wing Wing Zero vs Nataku - Gundam Wing Endless Waltz Eva Unit 02 vs MP Eva Units - Evangelion The End of Evangelion Eva Unit 02 Beast Mode vs Zeruel - Rebuild of Evangelion You Can Not Advance YF19 vs YF21 - Macross Plus Movie YF21 vs X9 - Macross Plus Movie Most mecha anime always have that one epic fight. So, when putting together a list any mecha-series could be on it.
Andrew Bui not really it was quite a boring fight compared to other series. Sure looks beautiful artistically speaking but the fight was not as impactful as ibo or hell even ZZ’s fight against Glemy, which was not even as good as the fight against Haman. The worst of the entire fight was how they solved it out with only a joust with their older model. Coulda make the fight more interesting.
Never though #1 would be Gundam Ez8 vs Gouf Custom Then again it was a kick ass gundam Battle, plus it was cool seeing a Gundam use it’s own arm as a weapon
If you think of it... it wasn't mech battles that determined the outcomes in Macross... it was singing and large fleet battle ships.. NOT mecha on mecha combat. Not shameful at all.
@@TekkaSage Even if the 1 VS. 1 mecha battles didn't determine the outcome of the stories on their own, the music and fleet battles didn't either, its a combination of all 3 and even then the Macross franchise has some of the best mecha battles in the genre. Just to name a few from the top of my head: Roy Focker VS. Miria, Max Jenius VS. Miria (DYRL Movie), Isamu Dyson VS. Guld in Macross Plus (this one alone with it's amazing animation, music and battle choreography is better than a third of the ones in the list IMO), Alto Saotome VS. Brera Stern in the second Macross Frontier movie. So yeah, it's a shame that Macross didn't get a mention in this list.
08th Mobile Suit Team. Did you watch the fight? Noris didn't die because of 'over confidence'. When he launches a signal flare he says "This is where I'm going to die." He knew early on in the battle that completing his mission would cost his life simply because it was taking too long. For God's sake, his dying words are literally, "Victory is mine! Hah!" He also decides not to kill Shiro because he is Aina's paramour. He was going to be killed anyway, and didn't feel the need to take Shiro down with him.
7 out 10 fights are all Gundam. Not surprised, but am Disappointed that no Macross Frontier Battle Frontier and Macros Quarter vs Battle Galaxy. wasn't on the list. Still the only battle that gave me chills down my back when they won. It's still the Only Macross series where we had a Macross vs Macross fight and the Duet of Sheryl Nome and Ranka Lee singing as the fight happens is the best ever.
I always enjoyed Altron Gundam vs Tallgeese II in Gundam Wing. When we first encounter Wufei and Treize, Wufei's overconfidence causes him to lose a duel. Now when the two fight, Wufei has the advantage but Treize is still a threat. And when Treize finally opens up about why he's fighting, we learn he's not a monster but a someone who is willing to do anything for his ideal. Then he just charges at Wufei and his mobile suit is destroyed. It's very poetic.
Actually Norris was not arrogant in the fight vs Shiro Amada He figured that this is the place where he will die, and his sole goal is to destroy all the gun tanks just so that Aina can escape with the rest of the injured forces It was a sacrifice but Gouf won the fight
shame u did not have barbatoses final fight in this half destroyed and falling apart but still able to kill person after person before failing after mikas body gives out
If number of victims is determine the greatest battle, there are a lot battles scene which kill/disable MS better than Mikazuki last stand. I won't say the name though.
They didn't have a significant impact on the series. First fight was more of a chase, the second fight had very little impact to the plot given the GP02 had already used it's nuke and would of been side lined, the last battle had very little impact as well on the overall plot as their mobile armor fight was more so in the background of the battle regarding the colony drop. The final battle also was never finished given Gato didn't bother killing Ko and he decided to regroup with the Zeon forces to support his comrades in retreating to the Zeon fleet.
I saw number one on Toonami and the suspense that leads up to that fight couldn't be cut with a beam saber this was a brilliant as Norris knock around taking out each and every one of the tanks and that one scene where he punches a sword into the crew compartment of one of the tanks is absolutely brutal. The resulting fight is the best in the franchise
As a newfag Mazinger fan (was released before i was born but i know of it thanks to the super robot wars series and i´ve read shin mazinger zero, watched mazinkaiser, mazinkaiser SKL and mazinger infinity) i have to say i agree. At least from the material i saw they could´ve put infinity´s final fight between two massive mazingers on this list.
Mazinger is awesome, but since it’s mainly about fighting against machine monsters by using overpowered gadgets, I don’t see how it’s epic... sure the gadget looks cool but it doesn’t gives out the chills that a good, detailed duel offers. That’s why it’s not on the list along with Getter.
I kinda expected Patlabor to be in this list somewhere. Also, I personally think most of Evangelion's battles are epic, like Operation Yashima or the one where Shinji & Asuka had to sync their movements to beat the enemy.
There are so many tremendous battles in Code Geass, i would not rank the Knight of One fight as high on that list though I'm glad to see the show included.
bit of an exaggeration. Although I'm not one of those purists that think every series in the UC timeline is different because some artist drew the Dom's shoulder pad slightly different than the original.
There are people that anal about it? Damn.. I know there are UC only people who say things like Iron blooded orphans would be better without the gundam title. (Even though those gundams are supposed to look strange and demonic. Kinda the point of the naming convention.) But seriously a shoulder pad means a different universe?
Norris' overconfidence? He had one goal, protect his retreating troops and the mobile armor from the guntanks. He sacrificed himself to do exactly that. I think the watchmojo narrator should watch that episode again, although it's a good choice to put it at number one.
Gotta say, it's tough to beat Sunrise when it comes to mecha anime.

I'm here because of the Strike thumbnail
Say what you will about the list, but one thing is very clear here... #1 is undeniable.
My favorites are (in no particular order):
Ez8 vs Gouf - Gundam 08th MS Team
Wing Zero vs Epyon - Gundam Wing
Wing Zero vs Nataku - Gundam Wing Endless Waltz
Eva Unit 02 vs MP Eva Units - Evangelion The End of Evangelion
Eva Unit 02 Beast Mode vs Zeruel - Rebuild of Evangelion You Can Not Advance
YF19 vs YF21 - Macross Plus Movie
YF21 vs X9 - Macross Plus Movie
Most mecha anime always have that one epic fight. So, when putting together a list any mecha-series could be on it.
Finally! Something that is NOT Dragon Ball!😊
Eh? Unit 01 fighting Zeruel I think would’ve been a better choice for no. 4.
Got to love the Gundam 00 final fight...

No.1: "One of the most strategic battles of Gundam history" -- *pulls off own left hand in the video*
honestly 8th ms team is one of the best as its grunt vs grunt without either side being truly stupid in the fights
I see gundam and I click
Very Good Girl.
Let's kill dbz together.
I GOT THE BEST WIFE IN THE UNIVERSE SWING
Never though #1 would be Gundam Ez8 vs Gouf Custom
Then again it was a kick ass gundam Battle, plus it was cool seeing a Gundam use it’s own arm as a weapon
Gurren Lagann's final battle should be #1.
Long Live Gundam!
So happy big o made it here loved that show so underrated
Macross? Not even 1 from the Macross saga? Shameful..
Mylene Flare Jenius or there is no Macross
And Everyone goes home or no one goes home.
Macross or LoveLive? I don't see the different though.
Seriously, no YF-19 VS YF-21?
08th Mobile Suit Team. Did you watch the fight? Noris didn't die because of 'over confidence'. When he launches a signal flare he says "This is where I'm going to die." He knew early on in the battle that completing his mission would cost his life simply because it was taking too long. For God's sake, his dying words are literally, "Victory is mine! Hah!" He also decides not to kill Shiro because he is Aina's paramour. He was going to be killed anyway, and didn't feel the need to take Shiro down with him.
Mojo, me again...
We're getting closer, but still want a top 10 gundam series
Evangelions aren't exactly mechas
They're Cyborgs
Isamu/Gould battle in Macross Plus is missing...
That was one of the most brilliant and detailed dogfight in movies.
As long as it is Gundam, I'm Satisfied
Getting my like just because of #1.
If you’ve never watched a Gundam series, 8th Ms team is short and really good. Props watchmojo.
A greed.
Gundam Wing 1995 was the best one, why not on the list?
7 out 10 fights are all Gundam. Not surprised, but am Disappointed that no Macross Frontier Battle Frontier and Macros Quarter vs Battle Galaxy. wasn't on the list. Still the only battle that gave me chills down my back when they won. It's still the Only Macross series where we had a Macross vs Macross fight and the Duet of Sheryl Nome and Ranka Lee singing as the fight happens is the best ever.
Its 6 out of 10.

As a Gundam fan, this list makes me happy. However, really disappointed at the lack of Gunbuster or Zoids.
Capt Norris wasn’t over confident. He sacrificed himself to kill the last guntank so the Kurrigan could escape.
Universal Century Forever!!!!
Thanks Leo.

Im so happy the Gouf Custom fight made it on here, seeing as how the Gouf Custom is my favorite mobile suit and my first gunpla.
My favorite as well. I hope to one day make a diorama of that fight
I'm simple, I see Gundam, i click
I see Strike and Seed I watch and like
Actually Norris was not arrogant in the fight vs Shiro Amada
He figured that this is the place where he will die, and his sole goal is to destroy all the gun tanks just so that Aina can escape with the rest of the injured forces
It was a sacrifice but Gouf won the fight
shame u did not have barbatoses final fight in this half destroyed and falling apart but still able to kill person after person before failing after mikas body gives out
A shame he can't say the name right to begin with
That was less of a battle and more of a massacre.
If number of victims is determine the greatest battle, there are a lot battles scene which kill/disable MS better than Mikazuki last stand. I won't say the name though.
@@ExcelonTheFourthAvalonHeirs with mika the kill Count is not what matter for me it's the raw emotion expressed through his savage attack.
@@CrimsonReaper189 Mika has emotions?
No Zoids?
If Evangelion made it to the list, Knights of Sidonia and Darling in the Franxx should too
Where was 0083 Stardust Memory?! KO vs the nightmare of Solomon?! That battle was epic!!
Stardust memory wasn’t even good
Doesn't change how much I enjoyed the battle. So I would've liked to see it on the list.
TekkaSage Gato decides to leave Kou alive just so that he can remember how much Gato cucked him LOL
I'm not an anime fan, but the absence of Mazinger is very disturbing. Guess it's the only one I watched since I was a kid.
Sorry but Gundam eats Mazinger in fame & sales...
4:08 It was at that moment,Kira knew he was immortal.
My ears bled a lot(coz o' dubbing)
Nice fights, nice video
There is 6 most replayed time skips if that shows you how good this video is 👍
Well in my opinion, #10 should be #1
P.S. Its Gundam Barbatos Lupus. Not just Barbatos
Master gundam vs God gundam will still hold a place in my heart I still get teared up after the battle
with all the gundam shows surprised unicorn did not make this list.
Gundam Unicorn is on netflix.
Honestly, the fights weren't very important in Unicorn. Impressive, but unimportant.
Unicorn’s fight scenes are kinda ass compared to other Gundam series...
The only thing that makes unicorn’s fight scenes good is because of how broken Unicorn is, besides that it’s meh
Loved seeing Gundam Exia come back to kill off Ribbons.
I just like Exia over the 00
Honestly?
If Eva-01 vs Zeurel counted, that should have been #1.
@Yuwawira Ina Putra unit 02 vs unit 13 in the rebuilds
Eva are biological weapons, not mecha.
Gundam will always be the best mecha anime no matter what hands down
No broken Blade
That Hashmal vs. Barbatos Lupus got me so hyped for IBO... it was an awesome fight //:)
Yeah, Guren vs. Lancelot should've been on the list, not Galahad!
Soooo there’s a whole bunch of Gundam series I’ve never even heard about lol
Oh boy you have no idea, and a whole lot more mangas.
Ness there is 40+ Gundam animes taking place in 12+ timelines
bit of an exaggeration.
