For me, it was kind of wrong & weird watching the lead gundam fighter strip off his clothes and then get into his latex like battle suit. 😄😄😄
it's a toss-up between Mikazuki Augus and Kira Yamato, ironic since one is essentially a mindless killing machine while the other is a warm hearted pacifist.

I wouldn't have put G-Witch on the list until after the series completed itself.
Heero Edgelord Yuy. The first gundam protagonist who after 5 episodes still confuses you on whether not he’s actually the antagonist (ENGLISH DUB LAUGH). Also the line at end of episode 1….
I don't understand how a franchise like this has failed so hard in the West. The stories are well told, and it's serious tones are phenomenal.

Mecha just isn’t a genre I really like. Although wing definitely was popular in the toonami days
I can think about two reasons.
First, like Jonathan said, the Gundam series are intended for a rather mature audience. However, Western broadcasters tend to perceive anime as entertainment exclusively intended for children's audiences. And often even as simple and stupid advertisements to sell toys. The idea of an adult anime is disturbing for a lot of people.
The second reason I think of is that, for the same reason, most of the Gundam series have a real message about war and the horrifying thing it implies. It's sometimes violent and, moreover, it doesn't make the violence entertaining. In many cases, anime put a heavy emphasis on the moment the hero kills someone and their awareness of what that entails. It's moments like these that make Gundams great anime and that's precisely what censorship has a hard time letting out. The rewritten dialogues of DBZ are just hilarious about that, insisting about the pilot opening their parachute after their planes was destroyed (no, they're dead) or the city being empty before the villains destroys it (no, they killed everyone)...

It’s honestly because from an outside pov it’s a daunting franchise, with so many different timelines people don’t know where to start.
Watched Zeta Gundam when I was a kid... and it shocked me a lot. The story was pretty dark and so many characters died at the end😮😢
Sunrise studios had no stranger on our beloved character/s to die, Code Geass, Cross Ange, Aura Battler Dunbine(which is even worst), and Cowboy Bebop(not just villains, also the innocents as well if you remembered episode 1)

00 is hands down my favorite Gundam series, but Wing was my intro to the series, and I'll always have a special place in my heart for it.

Seeing "War in the Pocket" and "08th MS Team" reduced to "Honorable Mentions" makes me sad. I watched both of those on the Midnight Run on Toonami in the Fall of 2001, after the September 11th attacks. Made me ponder the new era of war that we found ourselves in, with the "War on Terror", and those two were landmark anime shows to be broadcast on American TV.

Gundam IBO is what got me into Gundam, and one of the first anime to ever make me cry so it will forever be my favorite. 00 and Witch From Mercury take 2nd and 3rd. Also don't count out the Build Gundam series cause they are just as good in a different way

Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny has always been my favorite Gundam Series. It has also the best OP/ED, character and insert songs.

G-Gundam was perfect to me. Literally the only old anime I rewatch and have dvds for the whole series. "THIS HAND OF MINE IS BURNING RED....." Gets me every time

Gundam Wing was one of my first anime’s and love it. I was drawn by the song Just Communication and the characters. Heero being my favourite. He set his own broken leg. I enjoyed the twists of the story. I also enjoyed Endless Waltz. Loved the rest of the music Rhythm Emotion, White Reflection, Sparkling Harmony, Last Impression and Just Love

My love for Gundam started with Gundum Wing, but it was solidified when I watched Zeta Gundam, those two will always be at the top of my lists

Gundam Wing will always be my all-time favorite Gundam series. Iconic characters, custom Gundams, music, setting, everything was fire. I for some reason still know the pilots first and last names.

The Witch From Mercury is probably my new favorite Gundam series; the dynamic of the two leads is just my absolute favorite relationship archetype, making it feel just hand-catered to me. Everything else, the great cast, gorgeous animation and music, incredibly diverse mecha design, and living up to the franchise's political plotting, is like the universe's most delicious cherry-on-top.
Honorable mention to IBO just for having its S1 finale take place in my hometown
(Zeta might not be my fave series, but it certainly is my fave actual Gundam)

08th MS Team setup and finale rocked my world. I had never seen story like that before as a young man. my favorite easily.
Seed will always have a special place in my heart. First gundam series i watched. The 2 friends on opposite sides was the driving force of the series. When i got older i began to understand it, made me loved it even more.
Destiny had cooler gundams but story was shite. Writing was all over the place.
MSG, Zeta and Seed are my favourites. Stardust Memory gets an honourable mention, but mostly for that 80s sax theme song!
Gundam wing will always be my favourite animes and gundam series. It pretty much got me into anime. Also have a soft spot for the original series.

I'm a huge Gundam fan. Apart from Dragon Ball and Pokemon, Gundam SEED effectively introduced me to Anime. I'll admit that i haven't watched any Gundam shows older than SEED, cuz i'm really into the art style of the post-SEED shows. I recognize the impact the original shows had, but SEED set a benchmark for me in terms of animation quality. But if they remake the original shows with updated animation, i'll definitely watch it hands down.
As a fellow SEED fan, if animation is your only concern, I recommend you to check out *Gundam 08th MS Team* (1996) coz it has better, smoother & more detailed animation than SEED. And the story itself is standalone for anyone that is new to UC timeline.
lol remakes are just shittier qualities of the original
the original is awesome, regardless of it's budget animation (70's low budget). every gundam fan needs to at least give it a shot, but it did get a condensed 3 movie version with better animation, if that helps a little.
I mean no offense, but a lot of the older Anime is actually better animated than SEED. It was the first Gundam to use digital animation and Anime from that year has aged badly. Besides FMA.

Gundam Wing was my 1st series. I love it. I have all Canadian series for Gundam. Also have Unicorn which was really good and the 7th team, also good. Wing, Seed and OO are my favorites. Great list. I have yet to watch Zeta, heard they did a re dub in Canada.😊

@@matthew_natividad You're not kidding. On top of that legendary 2 minute promo, they also had promos for individual characters as well. They did the same for both Tenchi Muyo! and Outlaw Star. They stopped those when Big O came out. Then again, Big O didn't need them.
While I love finding those promos on TH-cam, I do miss Toonami Digital Arsenal. They were organized.

Top 3 are some of my favorites. Something about Zeta Gundam, the characters, and story just makes it so damn good. I'd say build fighters should have been in the top 10, that got me so hyped every week when it came out.
Finished watching all (Or most since some was something even the creators don’t talk about) of the UC Gundam series, The Origin, Zeta, and Thunderbolt being my favorites from the UC. I did enjoy The 08th MS Team. As for anything outside of it, IBO and WfM are the only two I watched, loved IBO. Exploring options like Wing, Seed, 00 even Build which are all on my list to watch someday.
I love Gundam Seed
It has cool looking Mobile Suit designs, excellent soundtrack, and awesome fight scene

I know its just a list......but no mention of Gundam 0083!! Sacrilegious! lol. Gundam Build Fighters doesn't hold a candle to 0083. wuff. Love Gundam though. Would agree on Gundam 00. Loved that series, until the end when they made the main character a super human god lol.
We really need a "grounded" series like Gundam 08th MS Team. So so SOOO good. That anime style is also my favorite.
It's clear to me now, this list has somehow underrated the series G Gundam with the help of KYOJI!!! lol jk. While Mobile Suit Gundam and Zeta Gundam are the OG's and must be respected and Gundam Wing will always have a special place in my heart my favorite will always be G Gundam. It was just so fun and over the top, a true Shonen in every sense of the word, but it also had its fair share of very serious moments as well. Master Asia was, well for lack of a better word, masterfully done both with his rigid utilitarian motives and his mentor/enemy relationship with Domon and he was always a treat to watch. Plus I absolutely LOVE the Master Gundam, both in design and in fighting style. Who knew a beam sash could be so effective? And come on, who doesn't get a smile on their face when they hear that iconic line, "This hand of mine glows with an awesome power! Its burning grip tells me to defeat you! Take this! My love, my anger, and all of my sorrow! SHINING FINGER SWOOOOOORD!!!!"
Oh, also apparently the voice actor for Domon Kasshu went on to retire from voice acting and became a doctor. Imagine getting a prostate exam from the guy who you best know for shouting "ERUPTING BURNING FINGER!!!" at the top of his lungs lol.
3:32 Fun fact, Stella Loussier from Gundam SEED is the only character to die, and her "reincarnation" of her Angelise Ikaruga Misurugi or Ange (who is inspired the persona and origin story of Lelouch from Code Geass, but she use Brawn over Brain) from Cross Ange: The Rondo of Angels and Dragons, and some girl characters like Rosalie is also took the character model from Gundam SEED... Dang I need to watch Witch from Mercury if I had time to spare

Zeta Gundam is my favorite
The Witch from Mercury truly shines as a top tier gundam show in the current cour. The last cour was mostly setup, and sparse of gundam action.
N that beautiful mecha designs aside, i more intrigued with the plot and characters than action. Hope it sticks to the landing.
Thunderbolt and The Origin should be top 10 instead of honorable mentions. I’d probably switch them with G fighter and seed
Top 3 Gundam series
1. Gundam 00 the restraint to build up characters until the 2nd season is just masterful
2. Gundam Wing The gateway drug nuff said
3. The Otigin beautifully animated, Char is almost likable, almost forget he’s a double crossing murderer

I really love Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, but nothing can top the original 1978 Gundam series. Even though it’s almost forty years old, its still pretty awesome to watch.
It's just too outdated, like trying to watch Speed Racer, lol, but they did so well, regardless. The movies capture the story better without it being so clunky, but I prefer the anime myself.

Me & my brother loved watching the Gundam series, especially listening 👂 to the shining finger’s outro.
Gundam Wing is The Greatest Gundam Series, when it debuted on Toonami it was Educational, had Depth, & thought Kids about Politics at an early age. But wasn't so over your head you couldn't understand what was going on. It was an Anime truly ahead of it's time.

Wing Unicorn Seed 00 and witch from Mercury is turning to be really good thus far
AGE deserves a spot on this list. 3 protagonists, each with a different perspective on war over the course of 3 generations.
They should be mentioned MS Igloo 2, one of my favorites (specially the episode “Kings of the land”) along with “Iron Blooded Orphans “ and “The 08th MS Team”.
Zeta Gundam is also my all time No.1 favourite too! No matter the mobile suits, the characters or the story, just the best of all till today, in my opinion!
I have not gotten into every Gundam, but I am really into the SD Gundam game right now.
IBO on Toonami got me into the franchise.

I had a flashback about this series out of nowhere.

But hot take the build fighter with sei and reiji and try are underrated I know it's not the serious war theme that most of the franchise is but it open the world up to the gunpla aspect of the franchise and I know there childish story and some slice of life but I feel there severely underrated.
I mean they have some very good fight between the 2 shows.

Honestly I can't think of a particular character that takes first place but Kiri Yamato, Banagher Link, Setsuna F. Seiei and the new Suletta Mercury are very interesting in their own ways but of all the series background the Mobile Suit Gundam 00 looks like to be closest to our reality, our future anyway.
My favorite one of all time was G gundum I absolutely loved that series and I was born in 93 so you know this was a Perfect time for me

Seeing Unicorn and Zeta so high up made my day. They even manage to put Seed which is a good series imo.

Started with Wing, followed by 00 then SEED. Have enjoyed most series ive watched. Watched some of them several times, others twice. Great franchise. 5 favourite series are MSG, Zeta, SEED, 00 & IBO. But WfM also has a really good 2d season so far.
Putting 8th MS Team & War In The Pocket in honorary section is worse than colony drop!
The old adage is true, “even a blind squirrel can find a nut”. You put Zeta at the top, where it belongs.
Mobile suit Gundam Wing and G Gundam are goated, grew up watching them on toonami… Definitely going to start watching some of the newer series after watching this video!!

I personally love IBO...but it's highly controversial with its S2. More traditional Gundam fans blame Mari Okada for resurrecting Gaelio and forcing Tekkadan to be the villains. Not everyone has sufficient media literacy.
My sibling in law bought me some Gundam kits (previously built armor and planes from WW2 and ships prior to the 1900s) and they told me there's like "lore and shiz" so here I am. Idk where to start but man I wanna build so many of these suits.
