Heero Edgelord Yuy. The first gundam protagonist who after 5 episodes still confuses you on whether not he’s actually the antagonist (ENGLISH DUB LAUGH). Also the line at end of episode 1….
I can think about two reasons. First, like Jonathan said, the Gundam series are intended for a rather mature audience. However, Western broadcasters tend to perceive anime as entertainment exclusively intended for children's audiences. And often even as simple and stupid advertisements to sell toys. The idea of an adult anime is disturbing for a lot of people. The second reason I think of is that, for the same reason, most of the Gundam series have a real message about war and the horrifying thing it implies. It's sometimes violent and, moreover, it doesn't make the violence entertaining. In many cases, anime put a heavy emphasis on the moment the hero kills someone and their awareness of what that entails. It's moments like these that make Gundams great anime and that's precisely what censorship has a hard time letting out. The rewritten dialogues of DBZ are just hilarious about that, insisting about the pilot opening their parachute after their planes was destroyed (no, they're dead) or the city being empty before the villains destroys it (no, they killed everyone)...

Seeing "War in the Pocket" and "08th MS Team" reduced to "Honorable Mentions" makes me sad. I watched both of those on the Midnight Run on Toonami in the Fall of 2001, after the September 11th attacks. Made me ponder the new era of war that we found ourselves in, with the "War on Terror", and those two were landmark anime shows to be broadcast on American TV.

Sunrise studios had no stranger on our beloved character/s to die, Code Geass, Cross Ange, Aura Battler Dunbine(which is even worst), and Cowboy Bebop(not just villains, also the innocents as well if you remembered episode 1)

Gundam IBO is what got me into Gundam, and one of the first anime to ever make me cry so it will forever be my favorite. 00 and Witch From Mercury take 2nd and 3rd. Also don't count out the Build Gundam series cause they are just as good in a different way
G-Gundam was perfect to me. Literally the only old anime I rewatch and have dvds for the whole series. "THIS HAND OF MINE IS BURNING RED....." Gets me every time
That's true gundam g is the best for me after that I didn't watch other sieres.... And when I do watch it fells boring for me.... Gundam g has the best lay out and exiting to watch and so many unique gundam characters....

The Witch From Mercury is probably my new favorite Gundam series; the dynamic of the two leads is just my absolute favorite relationship archetype, making it feel just hand-catered to me. Everything else, the great cast, gorgeous animation and music, incredibly diverse mecha design, and living up to the franchise's political plotting, is like the universe's most delicious cherry-on-top. Honorable mention to IBO just for having its S1 finale take place in my hometown (Zeta might not be my fave series, but it certainly is my fave actual Gundam)
Seed will always have a special place in my heart. First gundam series i watched. The 2 friends on opposite sides was the driving force of the series. When i got older i began to understand it, made me loved it even more. Destiny had cooler gundams but story was shite. Writing was all over the place.
Gundam Wing was one of my first anime’s and love it. I was drawn by the song Just Communication and the characters. Heero being my favourite. He set his own broken leg. I enjoyed the twists of the story. I also enjoyed Endless Waltz. Loved the rest of the music Rhythm Emotion, White Reflection, Sparkling Harmony, Last Impression and Just Love

I'm a huge Gundam fan. Apart from Dragon Ball and Pokemon, Gundam SEED effectively introduced me to Anime. I'll admit that i haven't watched any Gundam shows older than SEED, cuz i'm really into the art style of the post-SEED shows. I recognize the impact the original shows had, but SEED set a benchmark for me in terms of animation quality. But if they remake the original shows with updated animation, i'll definitely watch it hands down.
As a fellow SEED fan, if animation is your only concern, I recommend you to check out *Gundam 08th MS Team* (1996) coz it has better, smoother & more detailed animation than SEED. And the story itself is standalone for anyone that is new to UC timeline.
the original is awesome, regardless of it's budget animation (70's low budget). every gundam fan needs to at least give it a shot, but it did get a condensed 3 movie version with better animation, if that helps a little.
I mean no offense, but a lot of the older Anime is actually better animated than SEED. It was the first Gundam to use digital animation and Anime from that year has aged badly. Besides FMA.
I love Gundam Seed It has cool looking Mobile Suit designs, excellent soundtrack, and awesome fight scene Although the story may not be the best for some people, it is still a fun series to watch
IBO is the best I love the twist of it being set without many of the iconic Gundam weapons as it allows it to stand out & make it unique! + the topics are heavy portrayed so great that it makes so much better & less childish then some others, like child-soldiers which is huge problem today & will always be & the show portrays them so well to show that it’s not their fault their child-soliders they were forced,tricked,& made to be one. . IBO was my first ever anime & it will always hold a special place in my heart. ❤

Gundam Wing is The Greatest Gundam Series, when it debuted on Toonami it was Educational, had Depth, & thought Kids about Politics at an early age. But wasn't so over your head you couldn't understand what was going on. It was an Anime truly ahead of it's time.
While I do prefer 00, Zeta and Origins as my favorites, Wing will always hold a special place in my heart as my introduction to Gundam when I was a kid.
3:32 Fun fact, Stella Loussier from Gundam SEED is the only character to die, and her "reincarnation" of her Angelise Ikaruga Misurugi or Ange (who is inspired the persona and origin story of Lelouch from Code Geass, but she use Brawn over Brain) from Cross Ange: The Rondo of Angels and Dragons, and some girl characters like Rosalie is also took the character model from Gundam SEED... Dang I need to watch Witch from Mercury if I had time to spare
It's clear to me now, this list has somehow underrated the series G Gundam with the help of KYOJI!!! lol jk. While Mobile Suit Gundam and Zeta Gundam are the OG's and must be respected and Gundam Wing will always have a special place in my heart my favorite will always be G Gundam. It was just so fun and over the top, a true Shonen in every sense of the word, but it also had its fair share of very serious moments as well. Master Asia was, well for lack of a better word, masterfully done both with his rigid utilitarian motives and his mentor/enemy relationship with Domon and he was always a treat to watch. Plus I absolutely LOVE the Master Gundam, both in design and in fighting style. Who knew a beam sash could be so effective? And come on, who doesn't get a smile on their face when they hear that iconic line, "This hand of mine glows with an awesome power! Its burning grip tells me to defeat you! Take this! My love, my anger, and all of my sorrow! SHINING FINGER SWOOOOOORD!!!!" Oh, also apparently the voice actor for Domon Kasshu went on to retire from voice acting and became a doctor. Imagine getting a prostate exam from the guy who you best know for shouting "ERUPTING BURNING FINGER!!!" at the top of his lungs lol.

The Witch from Mercury truly shines as a top tier gundam show in the current cour. The last cour was mostly setup, and sparse of gundam action. N that beautiful mecha designs aside, i more intrigued with the plot and characters than action. Hope it sticks to the landing.
Yeah, good point. I'm a Wing fan, but Wing could have gone to honorable mentions. However, I'm pretty sure the more casual Gundam fans would riot. Same with Seed and IBO if they were placed there.
Top 3 Gundam series 1. Gundam 00 the restraint to build up characters until the 2nd season is just masterful 2. Gundam Wing The gateway drug nuff said 3. The Otigin beautifully animated, Char is almost likable, almost forget he’s a double crossing murderer Also why no honorable mention for 0083???
Zeta Gundam is also my all time No.1 favourite too! No matter the mobile suits, the characters or the story, just the best of all till today, in my opinion!
My favorite gundam series is Mobile Suit Gundam Iron Blodded Orphanes it’s has so much action and I will forever love it I also love love love 00 and wing I started with on unicorn so it will forever be with me

I really love Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, but nothing can top the original 1978 Gundam series. Even though it’s almost forty years old, its still pretty awesome to watch.
It's just too outdated, like trying to watch Speed Racer, lol, but they did so well, regardless. The movies capture the story better without it being so clunky, but I prefer the anime myself.
Top 3 are some of my favorites. Something about Zeta Gundam, the characters, and story just makes it so damn good. I'd say build fighters should have been in the top 10, that got me so hyped every week when it came out.

I know its just a list......but no mention of Gundam 0083!! Sacrilegious! lol. Gundam Build Fighters doesn't hold a candle to 0083. wuff. Love Gundam though. Would agree on Gundam 00. Loved that series, until the end when they made the main character a super human god lol. We really need a "grounded" series like Gundam 08th MS Team. So so SOOO good. That anime style is also my favorite.
06th MS Team, GBF and The Origin is miles better than Wing. 00 is basically Wing but with a better backstory and animation so it makes no sense putting Wing so high in this list. The only reason Wing is here is because of nostalgia. The series didn't age well as much as I really liked it and like most people, it is my introduction to Gundam.
1. Seed 2. G 3. Zeta 4. Wing 5. 08th MS... how war in the pocket was a nomination and 08th missed out completely shocks me. We will see how things go, but I'm really enjoying Witch From Mercury

I don't understand how a franchise like this has failed so hard in the West. The stories are well told, and it's serious tones are phenomenal.

Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny has always been my favorite Gundam Series. It has also the best OP/ED, character and insert songs.

As a fellow SEED fan, if animation is your only concern, I recommend you to check out *Gundam 08th MS Team* (1996) coz it has better, smoother & more detailed animation than SEED. And the story itself is standalone for anyone that is new to UC timeline.
lol remakes are just shittier qualities of the original
the original is awesome, regardless of it's budget animation (70's low budget). every gundam fan needs to at least give it a shot, but it did get a condensed 3 movie version with better animation, if that helps a little.
I mean no offense, but a lot of the older Anime is actually better animated than SEED. It was the first Gundam to use digital animation and Anime from that year has aged badly. Besides FMA.

IBO is the best I love the twist of it being set without many of the iconic Gundam weapons as it allows it to stand out & make it unique! + the topics are heavy portrayed so great that it makes so much better & less childish then some others, like child-soldiers which is huge problem today & will always be & the show portrays them so well to show that it’s not their fault their child-soliders they were forced,tricked,& made to be one. . IBO was my first ever anime & it will always hold a special place in my heart. ❤

While I love finding those promos on TH-cam, I do miss Toonami Digital Arsenal. They were organized.

Gundam Wing is The Greatest Gundam Series, when it debuted on Toonami it was Educational, had Depth, & thought Kids about Politics at an early age. But wasn't so over your head you couldn't understand what was going on. It was an Anime truly ahead of it's time.

It's clear to me now, this list has somehow underrated the series G Gundam with the help of KYOJI!!! lol jk. While Mobile Suit Gundam and Zeta Gundam are the OG's and must be respected and Gundam Wing will always have a special place in my heart my favorite will always be G Gundam. It was just so fun and over the top, a true Shonen in every sense of the word, but it also had its fair share of very serious moments as well. Master Asia was, well for lack of a better word, masterfully done both with his rigid utilitarian motives and his mentor/enemy relationship with Domon and he was always a treat to watch. Plus I absolutely LOVE the Master Gundam, both in design and in fighting style. Who knew a beam sash could be so effective? And come on, who doesn't get a smile on their face when they hear that iconic line, "This hand of mine glows with an awesome power! Its burning grip tells me to defeat you! Take this! My love, my anger, and all of my sorrow! SHINING FINGER SWOOOOOORD!!!!"
Oh, also apparently the voice actor for Domon Kasshu went on to retire from voice acting and became a doctor. Imagine getting a prostate exam from the guy who you best know for shouting "ERUPTING BURNING FINGER!!!" at the top of his lungs lol.

The Witch from Mercury truly shines as a top tier gundam show in the current cour. The last cour was mostly setup, and sparse of gundam action.

I really love Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, but nothing can top the original 1978 Gundam series. Even though it’s almost forty years old, its still pretty awesome to watch.
It's just too outdated, like trying to watch Speed Racer, lol, but they did so well, regardless. The movies capture the story better without it being so clunky, but I prefer the anime myself.

I know its just a list......but no mention of Gundam 0083!! Sacrilegious! lol. Gundam Build Fighters doesn't hold a candle to 0083. wuff. Love Gundam though. Would agree on Gundam 00. Loved that series, until the end when they made the main character a super human god lol.

06th MS Team, GBF and The Origin is miles better than Wing. 00 is basically Wing but with a better backstory and animation so it makes no sense putting Wing so high in this list. The only reason Wing is here is because of nostalgia. The series didn't age well as much as I really liked it and like most people, it is my introduction to Gundam.
