  • In this video I review the OneTigris Smokey Hut Hot Tent after taking it out on a couple winter backpacking trips with my pulk sled and heating it with the TMS Wood stove and a Mr. Heater Portable Buddy Propane Heater. OneTigris sent me the Smokey Hut to review and I gotta say it's one of the lighter, more affordable hot tent options on the market. It’s ultra light and made for backpacking. To get yours now and save 10% on your purchase click this Amazon.com link and enter promo code: OZTFLM2W (Valid until 17th Jan. 2020) at checkout. OneTigris Smokey Hut Hot Tent: amzn.to/2otaU7K
Don’t forget to like the video. Subscribe and hit that bell icon and leave a comment, question or suggestions in the comments section below. This is KdawgCrazy, thanks for watching and I will see you... on the trail.
    More info about the tent:
The Smokey Hut is made from a 20D Silnylon. The tent comes with 1 pole with stuff sack, 10 y-style tent stakes and 4 guy lines with stuff sack and the tent itself with a generously over sized stuff sack.
For your wood stove you have an easy access Velcro flap that can be rolled up and secured to reveal a 22x22 cm stove jack port. OneTigris does also sell a stove jack made for this tent available on Amazon.com. The stove jack port seals shut with Velcro and is relatively water proof although I have not had a chance to test it in heavy rain.
For colors, it comes in both beige and coyote brown and weighs in at just 27.6 oz. with stuff sack and 7 guy lines attached...according to my scale. The fixed length pole is 5.2 feet or 63 inch tall and weighs only 12.6 oz with stuff sack on my scale. It can of course be replaced with a branch or trekking poles or the tent can be pitched without the pole using the large loop attached at the peak of the tent. The dimensions of the tent are 10.4 feet in diameter by 5.2 feet tall which gives you a ton of room for one person, gear and a stove but you could still squeeze in one more person if you needed to. It sports one door with a water proof YKK zipper so you don't have to worry about snagging the zipper on a storm flap or getting any rain blowing in through that zipper. On the top you have 2 air vents but they don't really like to stay open. For stake out points you have 8 loops around the parameter and 7 guy out points to secure the tent against high winds or heavy snow fall. This tent also has a hidden set of stake out points/loops inside that are perfect for staking the tent lower to the ground which creates a snow flap all around the tent allowing you to throw on some snow to keep out cold drafts in the winter or rain and wind the rest of the year.
    Favorite features:
    • You got the hidden stake out points to pitch the tent with a snow skirt to block out cold drafts or rain
    • The Stove Jack port! Not a lot of tents include a stove jack port…especially tents in this price range
    • It’s Super light and compact compared to a lot of other hot tents. It's specifically MADE for ultra light backpacking!
    • It’s Very affordable around $140 plus on popular sites like Amazon.com. You could easily spend 2 to 3 times as much on a comparable hot tent.
    • It Comes in 2 colors...the Beige and Coyote Brown
    • It’s a true 4 Season Tent especially if you include the optional Mesh inner tent, sold separately
    • It’s Seam Sealed/Taped and water proof rated at 3000mm
    • The Generous sized loop at the Peak of the tent to pitch it without the pole using a branch or ridgeline or tripod
    • Nice reflective guy lines with adjusters… but it only comes with 4 guy lines and 7 are needed to pitch against high winds
    • There’s a Hook inside the peak to hang a lantern. Some manufacturers forget to add this simple and very helpful option
    • 10 nice y-style tent stakes...although they are green and would be easy to lose in green grass. But you could add a loop to the end of the stake that gives it more visibility
    • The Generously large stuff sack with drawstring...very easy to put the tent back in along with the pole and any small accessories.
    • And finally… I love the fact that it has an optional Mesh inner Tent called the Smokey Hut Inner Mesh Tent that can be purchased separately. It has a bathtub floor, a ton of bug mesh and one door with a YKK zipper. It weighs only 31 oz. with stuff sack…on my scale. It’s also made from 20D silnylon, is seam tape sealed on the bathtub floor and comes with a generously sized stuff sack and 8 tent stakes. It can be pitched separately on warm, dry trips or clipped into the Smokey Hut using the toggles attached to the mesh tent’s stake out loops. Just pop those into the plastic rings on the corresponding stake out points on the Smokey hut and then reinsert the pole inside the mesh inner tent for a great bug free experience.

Great review! I've been looking at this tent for two months, as my first ultralight tent. I've kind of always kept my camping and bushcrafting separate: my Grandfather has a ton of land in Pennsylvania, and up there I would just walk into the forest and build my own shelter, and live in it for a week or two, and when home, I'd find a nice campground in the middle of nowhere, and throw up a tent with some friends. Now I'm looking to bridge the gap, and I think this would make a great first tent: at least I'm hoping it does. Thanks for the review, I also just found your channel, and I'm hitting that bell and subscribing! Stay safe out there!

KdawgCrazy- I just got this tent in the beige color. Your video seemed to magically appear in my feed. Thank God! Yours, was the best review I’ve seen and I’ve watched at least 10 others. You have given me ideas already! Like the propane heater for instance. I NEVER would have thought of that! And the Rubbermaid tote on your sled. Brilliant! Thanks for the WELL THOUGHT OUT REVIEW. I subbed your channel. Stay safe and enjoy being in the woods.

Thanks Shane. Work has really been taking up my weekends and made it difficult to get some dirt time lately. I’m almost done with a two week vacation so I took advantage of that time and got out there a couple times to make this video. I was lucky enough to have a beautiful starry night the first time and an awesome blizzard the last trip. Hopefully, I can get out a couple more times this winter. Thanks for watching brother. Happy New Year!

Hey Brother! Thanks for watching! Yeah, I tried to put the tent through my normal usage and it held up really well. Even after the high winds it was fine. My last trip it was so cold and snowy that the inside and outside of the tent was covered in a layer of ice and the tent handled it with no damage.

Great review and I bought this tent few months ago and very soon I'm trying it out myself. This is so extremely lightweight which I couldn't believe it. I also bought the inner mesh as here in scotland we have the worst biting insect ever The Scottish midges especially in the highlands.
Got this from Amazon uk and it wasn't expensive so I'm thinking of getting the stove this coming winter! Which stove would be best? Would a lightweight stove work as good?

Very informative video! With the wood stove, how often do you put wood into it to keep it going overnight?

    • @KdawgCrazyOutdoors
      @KdawgCrazyOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The TMS wood stove is just too big for this tent and honestly, it’s not that good of a tent stove. I added a damper to slow down the burn but this stove really wants to burn man. With a smaller stove you could go about 3 hours before needing to add more wood especially if you close the vent and damper enough to just barely keep it burning. After getting it nice and hot I add bigger chunks of wood that will burn slower.

It's quite a joke that you can't even keep the vents open with a velcro fastener, these are not exactly costly or difficult to make as a manufacturer. It's worth mentioning though as OneTigris seems to be a company that listens to their customers, as they've made quite a few updates on their tents this year. Overall, the Smokey Hut is an amazing tent.
