Firebox Nano Ti 3 Year Review | Highlights of Use on Backpacking Trips | Long Term Use Review

- This is the Firebox Nano Ti - Gen2 Titanium Folding 4 oz Ultralight Multi fuel Stove. I’ve been using the Nano for about 3 years now and have found it to be exceptionally light, small, compact and quick to set up. It’s small enough to fit in a shirt pocket and literally unfolds in seconds to use. This video is a collection of backpacking trips where I’ve used the Nano to burn wood and Esbit solid fuel tablets to cook on the trail. I also show some of the modifications I’ve made to more efficiently use Esbit and to burn more wood. The Nano works great for small and large pots/pan… just rotate the stove’s legs outward. Since it’s a multi-fuel stove it also works great with the Trangia Spirit Burner and Trangia Gas Burner using the 2 included Nano Sticks. Wood pellets, charcoal and various other fuel sources can also be used. Good presentation on the Fire Box Nano. I have the stainless one in a day pack ( in the vehicle ) for day hikes for about 12 years now. I like the Titanium ( for backpacking )cooking gear because it cools down so fast. . My last purchase...... Keith Titanium Chopsticks in a protective case. I had to smile at the 15.01 mark when you stirred the pot full of Noodles & Chicken.

I use chopsticks a lot...usually for things that are hard to eat with a fork like noodles and salad. A Titanium pair would be awesome. I’m starting to replace everything with titanium and down. Thanks. I usually just use a separate wind screen. The one you can buy from them if good for keeping the pot handle cool.
Awesome video. Thank you for showing the stove in action. I also really appreciate you sharing your hack for having a taller stack by pinning the base with the nano stick. I'm just learning about the stove and going back and forth on whether I should buy the Ti or Stainless version. I'm not an avid hiker and am more of a gadget guy but... I love anything of quality and both the Ti and Stainless version seem to have it. I'll even make a SPAM sandwich with Dave's Hot N Spicy BBQ sauce in tribute to your video. LOL. Thanks again!

Thanks Bret. That fuel plate is titanium so it felt very wrong drilling holes in it. LOL. But it works so much better now.

Sometimes I store it in my cook pot or just in my food bag. It’s been ok so far.
I've used a focus ring to reduce the heat and extend the burn time for baking. If I drill the titanium plate, do I lose that function? If so, carrying a drilled can lid and leaving the titanium plate as is would be my choice.
I get amazing heat and cook time out of my set up. For slow baking you could always just put down a piece of aluminum foil to block the holes. I used the can lid for a few years before I drilled holes in the titanium plate. Very glad I did. In my opinion Firebox should sell the plate with a ring of holes and a titanium focus ring. Esbit is awesome but not with the commercially available setups.
Great choice of stove! That said, real men drink coffee. Kick that tea to the curb or let the cows graze on it.

Thanks for watching brother. I’m not sure if they sell it anymore on Amazon but the pot/fry pan lid are AMG Titanium. If the pot had a bail I’d say it was the perfect pot. I think I only payed $35 for it. Not bad for titanium. It’s a little over a liter. I think the Firebox Nano in stainless is only $27 right now on their website. If you already use a Trangia, Esbit fuel or just needed a simple little wood stove it’s one of the best ones on the market.
Your videos will always be of benefit.

Hey there kdc!! I was just wondering. Did you just have a sheet of foil under your nano on top of snow for one of your segments. I think i like the concept of using a sheet of heavy duty foil as oppose to my xcase. Seems like the foil would give you a lot more room for wonky pieces of wood that are longish. Thanks so much for this! This is great!!

So true!! I love steves vids as well. I have this one, the solo stove and the big and small emberlits. I live in new england and where the wood tends to be a little more moist than the southwest the solo stove works great here as well as both emberlits but the nano tends to be a little more cantankerous to get going. , so I can see what it’s like without the focus ring. Do you recommend just under the stand. If it was too close to your pot, would it suffocate the essbit. Love the adaption. Love the food despite having had my heart surgery. It sure tastes good

Awesome video. Any experience with the trangia burner with the nano? Have been thinking about getting a remote canister stove for winter camping, but already own a nano and thought it might be a good winter combo.
I haven’t used them together yet but I have set up my Trangia gas burner with the nano to see how to do it. I thought about using it for fire outside and then bringing it into my tent to melt snow at night. I think they make a great combo.

Thanks for watching Edward. Yes it's a small can of tomato paste. I experimented with different size holes for the plate which is made from a soup can lid. The holes have to be big enough for the fuel to get enough air flow but not so much that it burns out too quickly. I'll hopefully be doing a video on that soon. I've asked Firebox to make it and they declined saying not enough of their customers use the solid fuel plate.
I found your video quite informative. Thank you for putting this out. I made my own soup can lid + focus ring. But I noticed you switched from the soup can lid to the Ti solid fuel plate. Just wondering why. Do you find the Ti plate works better? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for watching and for the question. I already had the titanium solid fuel plate and hadn’t used it at all so I decided to try drilling into it for use with my focus ring and it works really well. I’m hoping that one day Firebox will just sell a similar setup. It seems to be more popular than I though it would be. I like to use esbit and this setup works amazingly well.

Hey Terry! The knife was the Mora Eldris. That and the Garberg are my only two knives. My other knives are now dead to me. LOL. I see Condor came out with a knife very similar to the Mora Garberg at a lower price point but it has a finger guard. I’m hoping they make one similar to the Eldris as well. That kind of design is the right way to go and maybe the price will drop a little too.

Enjoy the review... After owning the G2Ti and nano for two years ... I hardly ever take nano out... With alcohol stove I simply use a cross trivet that's tiny and I find nano too fiddly n small as wood twig stove... So I've finally decided to sell it
It can be a little fiddly. The X case helps with that a lot. I still bring mine with my alcohol stove so I can still cook if I run out of fuel and have a small fire for ambiance.

Hey. Thanks for watching. No, that’s a store bought windscreen. I think I got it maybe 6 or so years ago. Amazon sells them for pretty cheap. They come in different heights and number of panels. Aluminum and steel versions I think.

So how do you find the stove for stability? I worry that it may be a little too narrow for its height, especially on round ground. What do you think?
I found it to be pretty stable but you could always add the x-case for more stability. Firebox sells it separately and in a kit.
KdawgCrazy Outdoors Yes , I know, thanks. I've been twisting and turning trying to decide if I should get the nano, or the bushbiox ultralight, I just can't decide. I think from what I've seen that the nano is better, but there is something I like about the ultralight.

Another good vid there KD; the plate/ring Esbit combo is a nice touch too. Esbit's are great to have around even as a back up. If I use one I generally pick up 3 small stones as a tripod and light one in between, placing my pan on the stones.. if you follow me :-) Travel safe. Cheers Wayne
Thanks for watching! Esbit is a perfect backup fuel source. Thats a great idea with the stones. I’ve also seen people use tent stakes. Esbit cubes are so much easier to ration out than gas canisters or even alcohol. But there are some foods that just have to be cooked over a roaring fire and that’s why the Firebox Nano checks all the right boxes.
Have you submitted your improvement to the NANO Box Ti with the holes and spacer-ring? I am pretty sure if he likes the improvement you made to his product he might offer some sort of monetary reward.
Not yet but I might later this summer to see if he can make the set in titanium and let me show it off.

It’s a tin from a deck of cards. If you like it I highly recommend buying the X-case from Firebox. It’s a hinged lid tin with grooves for the stoves legs that give the stove stability and is a great ash pan.

I was planning on making a video specifically about it and never did. I’ll try to do one here in the next couple months when I’m able to start backpacking again. It’s highly efficient as long as the ring of holes in your base plate are big enough to allow enough airflow. It’s way better than any commercial product I’ve ever seen that uses solid fuel tablets.

That is awesome! Love it! The first bite rule was actually somethings started by Steve Krewson and Shane Coffey on TH-cam. I did a couple backpacking trips with them and when they would eat a meal on the trail they had a rule to film them eating the first bite and their reaction. I’ll explain that on my next trip video. It was originally “first bite”, a rule that a subscriber and his buddy would show of a meal on a trip. After going on a couple trips with them I adopted it and added onto it.

That’s a lid to a tin for a deck of cards. The Nano fits in it perfectly.

Hi, Thanks for your vids. Why use esbit ? Use alcool burner please, is more nature friendly and ecological. Plastic waste and heavy gear for production. Cheaper cost for alcool and esbit is realy toxic, is Hexamine.
