  • We test the new 2022 Subaru BRZ manual and see if this is a great coupe to buy.

    The second-generation Subaru BRZ uses a new 2.4-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and is available with a six-speed manual as tested here, or an optional six-speed automatic.
    It will be joined later by a new Toyota GR86 twin but the Subaru is the first of the pair to be released here in Australia. The Coupe S costs $40,190 before on-road costs in manual.
    In today’s episode of Chasing Cars, deputy editor Nathan Ponchard considers whether the new 2022 BRZ is worth your money.
    Key rivals to this car include the GR86, the Hyundai i20 N, Fiesta ST, i30 N and a mix of other hot hatches and coupes.

    A great review…Having owned the original, I was lucky enough to get a 2022 Coupe S manual and even better I have already taken delivery of it. It is an amazing car and so much better than the last generation. There is nothing close to it for the money. If you want Nappa leather and a Burmeister sound system, buy something else. If you want an affordable and hugely fun car it is a slam dunk…

    Absolutely brilliant review Ponch - I love this car and it makes me so happy it exists and drives so nicely - nostalgia for my mother’s 71 Celica in similar colour blue - oh rear drive coupes maybe time to convert from my RS265....which I love still after 7 years with 100% reliability and 95k of fun....oh no first car crush of ‘22 🤪

    Absolutely love it!
    With the low geared rear end and the
    torque of the 2.4L it is very lazy to drive around town.

      They look nicer than my ND MX5's tail lights thats for sure! That is what I thinking of getting rid of in favor of brz86...biggest drawbacks are #1 there is no active BRZ86 drivers club in my area whereas Miata enjoys great active club ( like 30 cars or so per run!) with many runs through awesome West Coast routes hauling a$$!!! (radio support with lead and sweep cars...never any citations....so far lol) Then #2 my wife LOVES top down driving roadster and I can already hear her bitch if I try to replace the ND with a hard top....but personally I LOVE the idea of MORE power! The Miata IS quite a bit lighter but still 180ish hp pales in comparison

  • @scottmackenzie318
    @scottmackenzie318 ปีที่แล้ว

    Spoiler Alert - I had the opportunity recently to buy a new BRZ/86. I had owned an MX-5 ND convertible previously. Test drove 86/BRZ and the road noise was a deal breaker. MX -5 RF with roof up had better NVH than both cars. Then, add open top motoring and in my opinion better handling - + power to weight flexibility - I bought a new MX5 RF. We're all different - but for me - the MX-5 delivers a car ownership experience for the price point second to none. Its a cracking bit of kit for your hard earned $'s. If you need a bigger car ,buy the boat from Toyota/Subaru.

    Affordable rear wheel drive LSD equipped Sports Cars are as rare as Hen's teeth now. Toyota/Subaru have this small niche market segment sewn up, have for years now. So. Is it the best RWD driver's coupe? Well compared to what?? A 2022 Toyota 86?? This new model seems to be trying to hard now, to look like an old 924/944 80's design.

      Well hardly "sewn up" as the seriously lighter albeit only 180ish hp Miata is still going strong also RWD LSD super fun in twisties ....btw i never see brz86s in the canyons wierd...loads of Porsches quite a few Miatas ...guessing it is younger set buying the BRZ86s which in comparison might easily explain things? An age group being too busy working schooling and of course chasing girls to be driving the twisties all the time....strangely civilian sports car fun driving appears to be much more of an old guy thing (who seem to have more disposable time and money on average?) ....just my perception idk i could be wrong....Also I am guessing the younger bunch dont want to be buying new tires every 5k ...I'll be lucky to get 5k miles....lol ALSO (just a thought) MAYBE when the youngsters do start down that road of regular mountain driving they get too fast in trouble?? I know in my younger days I kept being forced to take reprieves from my fun driving as I several times was in the "one more citation and your license is GONE" situation lol...not to mention the insurance company just RAPED me for my driving driving habits...! Just saying I did not spend anywhere near as much time on the mountain roads as I dearly wanted to when I was young...as I do now! btw my first new car I ever purchased? 79 RX7...loved that car! Damn wife got pregnant and there is no spot for a baby with two adults in the RX7lol....so it got traded at 40k miles...Was several years till I could get back to my passion!

      3300llb ugly 4 door....yuuuck not me...Anyway I love to carve and care less about something gaining a couple car lengths in a drag race especially since I find that entirely lame to begin with

      The i30n is 4WD, so apples and oranges. It's a 4 door, so apples and oranges. It's 15k more expensive, apples and oranges. It is NOT a 2 door, RWD sports car. Enough said.
