  • Thanks to my day job at Kelley Blue Book, I drive and review lots of cars. This new 2022 Subaru BRZ is one of them. The Subaru BRZ is a compact sporty coupe that competes with the Toyota GR86, Mazda Miata, and Mini Cooper. In this video, we drive the Subaru BRZ to review its positives and negatives from a family perspective.

    Nice review. I owned a '13...I believe that was the 1st year. It did have some serious quality issues but it was a fun car and I loved it. I didn't have it too long but I long to own another one one day. Perhaps once this newer version gets a little more mature, I'll buy another one. Great cars, driver's cars.

    I picked up my 22BRZ about a month ago. I agree with everything in the review. I have owned manual cars exclusively for 20+ years and the BRZ os just tricky to be smooth with. I actually just ordered a replacement clutch spring that is supposed to make the pedal slightly heavier but add more feel. Hopefully it smooths it out. I have the loaded limited model. I like the interior, bigger wheels, better tires, steering responsive headlights and better sound system. Its well worth the cost of the upgrade.

The only thing, is that GR86 glovebox is sticking out way more than the GT86 one, with that strange design, and that may compromise how much you can displace the seat without knees touching, compared with the old car. I feel like Subaru has a bunch of old Honda taillights in stock, because the back end of the BRZ reminds me of a '16 Honda Accord Coupe, and the WRX looks like a '12 Civic from behind. Can't unsee now.

    • @K03sport
      @K03sport 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      ...omg. It is a taillight styling trend. Many Japanese brands (toyota, nissan too) as well as other makes use the claw/c light design. Volvo uses the claw design too (they might have started it) . It emphasizes width and provides an elegant style. If you notice, light designs follow trends like other styling cues. And if it is successful for one brand, it quickly makes its way to other brands. It is not a Honda-only thing...even Honda emulates the hockey stick lights found on Volvo wagons and SUVs on their CR-V...

    I think the Toyota has a different rear suspension set up, indeed a carry over from the first gen. I like the higher trims because they get the better lights, but kind of prefer the base cloth seats. In AR, just seems to be no inventory of either the BRZ or GR86. My usual first question is RWD vs FWD, but if you are drive train neutral, then lots of competitors out there including the new Civic Si and Integra. A premium BRZ vs a base Nissan Z may get interesting, but wondering about the Z weight.

    Do you think it would fit a rear facing seat?

    • @alamos8
      @alamos8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely not. It almost does not fit a rear faving in a VW Scirocco (I have a Scirocco) and this is basically like a Golf 5/6 inside although lower. The front seat has to be waaay forward. I use a front facing child seat (and I prefer them also for security. I'm confident enought I would not drive into anything hard, but I'm not confident at all others don't drive hard into my rear)

    I'm stil worried about if me (1.72 m), my wife (1.64 m) and my daughter would fit (she is 6-year old now, currently 1.29 m, and she can legally use just an elevator at this height, but she will keep growing, and maybe with 11 years old she could be 1.60+ m, as she is above average since she was born, and with 13 she could be 1.65-1.70 m, and at those points I'm not sure). I know that I myself fit in the rear opposite seat of a Toyota GT86 2017, with anotjdr 1.72 m guy in front (seat displaced to the front). But... in another video of the GR86, I noticed the new glovebox is sticking forward quite a bit with that strange design, and that that makes significant less knee room for the codriver when displacing the seat to the front, comparing with a previous gen GT86. So I'm not sure, and here there will be no showroom units at all, if you order one, you will have to do it blindly (Spain).

    I'm happy to see the Aux jack in BRZ. I wish more cars had it. I still use my Zune HD and iPod Touch to listen to my purchased and downloaded music.
    For those who don't know what downloaded music is, I have to say, it's a form of listening to music that doesn't need streaming, so when you own it, you really own it. You don't need to pay 10$ (x as many streaming services one may have) month for the rest of your life to listen to your favorite songs

      @@fj60driver Agree. The best use of the "back seat" is always down with stuff you need (long) in the trunk or with the seats up and stuff in the back seat (groceries). I like to think of the back seat as a way to keep items from sliding around and not a place for people... ever. Maybe dogs? Mine prefer the passenger seat to experience windows :)
