I listen to all kinds of music, from pantera, slipknot, metallica, gojira to bands like radiohead, perfect circle, but nothing generates me as much respect and admiration as this man, I think he is the most talented and complete musician that history has given, Since the simplicity has managed to create a perfect and unrepeatable music and I think this song represents that for me, simply perfection
I usually put it like this. Each note he hits on that ssd's strat has a ton of feeling. And that's how your mind goes to emtions. The feeling is incomparable. Dime is cut from the same cloth. They feel it so incredibly that it shows through their guitar play. My favorite guitarist and Dime is right there with him. We turn that feeling into emotion. And they know how to do it. Legendary...
So so good! My Lord, to be able to be in the band at that concert! I love how Gilmour and Phil Manzanera's guitars played off each other. The band was digging it, and those vocal harmonies. ...last but not least, Gilmour's tone. The touch and soul he plays with is incomparable. He takes you somewhere in his solos.
If I were "on an island" and If I had some David Gilmour guitar recordings, I would be just fine! I could listen to him solo for days, weeks, months, etc!
I agree, he's incredible! Have you listened to the solo in the music video to 'Drive home' by Steven Wilson yet? Think you could like that, it's also great and very melodic
Rolling Stone rated Dave lower than Keith Richards. I used that edition to light a fire in the fire pit and haven't bought that fish wrapper again...Ol Sarge...
I love how David isn't a super technical player. He stayed fairly simple in his playing instead of becoming some fancy technical player who plays for guitar players. His simplicity is why he is one one of ny favorite players.
This song moves me every time. I'm from an island. I remember long summer days with friends and my two brothers. Some long gone. Amongst those who are gone, my two dear brothers. This song gives me consolation. Thank you, Sir David and Polly!
This is my boyfriends and mines song. We were laying in bed at around 3 at night listening to this song. Nothing was happening, We just laid side by side with the light of the tv on. We let the night surround us. His arm around my waist, listening to Remember That Night DVD on a tiny twin bed. As we both fell asleep. I will always remember that night.
Life, as a expression of our souls in our vessel/body, is ephemeral. This man will never die. His name will be written in golden letters in the history of the human race :-)
im with you my friend, my girlfriend always asks me what ill do when that dreadful day comes, and all i said is ill cry and cry and cry...i pray there is a god and all of us believers will someday meet david in heaven, call me whatever you want but thats what i wish....peace all....
This song makes clear that Mr. Gilmour IS Pink Floyd. Wonderfull harmonics and sound. And a guitar that makes me emotional and cry. Thanks for sharing this !
Guilherme Emmendoerfer force of nostalgia? Gilmour is a much more passionate musician. Waters is drier, more cerebral, and a lyricist. I like David Gilmour a lot more for the amount of completely captivating intensity and depth of feeling he puts into his music and his playing. It's a shame the two could not collaborate, or perhaps even could not have collaborated, there could have been something greater than either of their individual contributions.
Where were you guys, the first time you heard this? For me, it was about 9 PM on a warm night as we were eating dinner in Lanzarote, on the patio in the villa we were staying in.
I'm back again, can't get enough of this song!! Divine intervention! If you've ever doubted, "Yes there is a GOD"!!! For nonbelievers sorry about your luck. Don't want to argue. I'll have my final words with Jesus Christ!!!!!!
Dude, the writer and singer of this song himself is an atheist. I don't have a problem if you want to engage in a delusion of your choice, but please don't don't spread the delusion in public.
Dog Man Then why watch the video/listen to it? That's my thing. I personally don't understand not liking it (hehe) but that's their disturbance. Point is, why give it a thumbs down? Thumbs down should be for something offensive or if someone claimed something that was not true in their posting...
tim rosenzweig Apparently! If i listen to On an Island, Take a Breath, Shine on you Crazy Diamond, Comfortably Numb, Red Sky at Night, Breathe, Time, or Great Day for Freedom one more time today, I am going to break my ipod. heheh I love the live versions of these songs from Gdansk and Royal Albert Hall.
what's the big deal? They probably (assuming they were reasonable, rational people) clicked on this video to check it out, not knowing how it is or going to be, and ended up not liking it for whatever reason. That's exactly what the dislike button is for. For offensive things there is a report button. Not everyone goes to every video, knowing how or what it is and also not everyone is supposed to like everything we like.
so many people think that the meaning of playing guitars is playing a solo with a lot of notes, and a day you put up a division bell disc and ..... your conception of music is revolutioned. You hear a man that let you feel sensations that are hidden in your soul with a couple of notes that create the time to let you delight the music. Listen to David touching the strings is like hearing the soft sound of the sea in a summer's morning while the sunlight irradiate your tearing eyes
Si je devais mourir avec de la musique dans les oreilles, se serait cette merveille! Si l'homme est capable de composer des choses comme celles-la, il reste peut-être encore un espoir pour l'humanité...
On an Island David Gilmour Remember that night White steps in the moonlight They walked here too Through empty playground, this ghosts' town Children again, on rusting swings getting higher Sharing a dream, on an island, it felt right We lay side by side Between the moon and the tide Mapping the stars for a while Let the night surround you We're halfway to the stars Ebb and flow Let it go Feel her warmth beside you Remember that night The warmth and the laughter Candles burned Though the church was deserted At dawn we went down through empty streets to the harbor Dreamers may leave, but they're here ever after Let the night surround you We're halfway to the stars Ebb and flow Let it go Feel her warmth beside you.
Crosby and Nash can blend their voices to perfection like no others. By their reactions at min 6 onwards we can tell how please they are by the experience, as if they know they have been part of something great.
I had this song in my head all day today , I got home from work and had terrible news of 2 good friends that passed away on a motorcycle crash , so I listened to this song and never realised the meaning of it until the end , I fell on my knees...
I am so glad i was born at the right time and age to have seen and herd the best rock band of all time, we will never get anything like them again, just like the world never got other mozat ..... 200 yrs they will be still playing them and wishing
I'm a 70ties kid... this is utterly the best musika ever and it's still playing these days thank god... the music these day is so not music not the same as 70.80.and early 90ties.... rock music will never die.
+alexis dimebag I doubt that. The whole team was the heart, soul, and mind... Clearly you can see the 'lack' of Water's, Mason's and Wright's touch in every song that they made up separately. Even in the 80's and 90's Pink Floyd's albums....
As tandems of songwriters go, Gilmour/Waters have composed some of the best songs of the last century (Comfortably Numb to say one). And, as all tandems of songwriters go, they are not meant to be together that much. It’s a pity but that is… Pink Floyd was never the same without Waters, but I can’t deny Gilmour’s efforts to continue with the concept. Right now I’m very fond of Gilmour’s solo albums and the two post-Waters Pink Floyd’s albums. I found OAI and RTL very relaxed and without the heavy weight of the Pink Floyd name, he’s having fun and composing the best songs of his solo career. I like Waters’ solo albums but I don’t listen to them that much. I wish David Gilmour could write more lyrics but that is his weakness and that is what makes him wonderful, that permitted him to develop his trademark guitar playing and that allowed Waters to develop his skills as a lyricist. Maybe you’re right, Barrett was the heart, Waters the mind, Gilmour the soul but don’t forget that Wright was the paper were they need to write down the song and Mason was the knot that tied all together. Thank you Pink Floyd.
All the lyrics on this album were written by Gilmour's wife, Polly Samson, one of only two women ever credited with writing for Pink Floyd. Polly also co-wrote much of "The Division Bell" song lyrics.
+Artie RT very true, but somewhat sad..she also wrote the lyrics for the one vocal song on the entire Endless River CD, she wrote half the tunes on his new one, Rattle That Lock....to me, that's nothing short of blasphemy..no woman belongs in Floyd. The new album does a good job of passing tributes around, and David's voice is sharp as ever..IMHO...she's mellowed him, could be his age, dunno..i'm gettin' older myself..i think he's shakin' it off, this new album is refreshing, albeit, one tune is a recycled rerun..
This is a dream turned into music. Masterfully and no one can do it better than him. I can easily get on my knees and cry like a baby every single time I listen to this song. His music goes beyond boundaries.
NON SO COME FA QUEST'UOMO DALLA SENSIBILITA' INFINITA, MI SENTO "DENTRO" LE SUE NOTE ... COME VOLARE NELL'IMMENSITA' CHIUDENDO GLI OCCHI! Ancora quel ragazzo che sognava è dentro me! Grazie David ...
Go to 5:50 in it's awesome. Nash and crosby's face are in classic awe of gilmours excellence lol. Crosby is nodding his head like "yep that's good stuff" And Nash is even better-expression of 'oh damn!' On his face haha
Phil is a hoss on the guitar too. Gilmour amazes me. This is a classic song and it is not but 9 years old. He knows how to write and play with the soul. The second solo is crazy good.
David is probably one of the few musicians who can express emotions trough his guitar. I can't help thinking that legends like Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Hendrix, Pink Floyd (to name a few) will be forgotten and commercial artists like Lady GaGa, Justin Bieber and Rihanna will take over today's music which makes me feel very sad. I'm one of the very few sixteen year-olds who listens and appreciates this music. Pink floyd is music and will live everafter.
Now that I see this, this explains why I fell in love with this song..and especially that perfect but gentle harmonies. This is just purely beautiful. I wish I could have seen this concert. Thank you. xo
One would be hard pressed to find better harmony/background singers...Crosby and Nash do it all to well....I love this song, could listen to it all night long!
I havent gone an island, but i can definetely say that this Gilmour takes me to heaven whenever i listen him.Who are you Gilmour..I have an idea about who you are.You must be definetely the GOD.
It's magic every time I watch this... For me, this is the only way to watch David gilmour "Live" also from his Dvd's... I'm from South America and I wish someday I could watch David Gilmour playing, even though this dream will never come true, I'm glad and happy he let us know how beautiful his music is and how his compositions can makes us feel. When the Greats are Your back-up singers... Yeah... Sir Gilmour You are the Closest to Idol worship I have ever come... Been a Fan since I was born in '74... Nobody can do What You Do.
A great example that you dont need to play a million notes a second to be one of the greatest guitarist in the world thank you for your music Mr. Gilmour
Waters was the brain, Gilmour was the soul, Wright was the heart, and Mason connected the nerves
Mason = Skelton
Waters = Brain
Wright = Heart
Gilmour = Soul
Syd Barret = Spirt
I disagree only slightly. Waters was the thorn.
Mason was the pulse.
sid love you
Syd was the mind.
He still has the same voice has he had 40 years ago, Hes a legend
RoeeGMS David said that he loves singing as much as he loves playing the guitar. He's definitely one of the best ever!
France has the food, Italy has the charm, Germany has the engineering, England has the music
and Argentina de Futbol
Oh yeah! England sure do has the music.
That's true...
true
Ireland has the charm. the lucky charms
it's not about speed and technical ability...it's all about soul, emotion, heart etc...hard to beat him
Absolutey right

that's all literally one kind of music, rock music lmao
Es una realidad hecha magia ...
Gilmour es un gran músico y concuerdo con tu hipotesis
Crosby and Nash are loving it!

One of the best guitar solos of all time.
yep!!
Where does he come up with these amazing solos? FANTASTIC!!!
Intelligence.....!

Dragão Por N
Beautiful backing vocals by Graham Nash and David Crosby!!
I was crushed when Wright passed away. Growing up seeing his face, listening to his music, felt like loosing someone so close to me
If I were "on an island" and If I had some David Gilmour guitar recordings, I would be just fine! I could listen to him solo for days, weeks, months, etc!
That Gilmour solo at the end of the song.. holy cow.. he has the most melodic touch, and the tone is unmatched...
I agree, he's incredible! Have you listened to the solo in the music video to 'Drive home' by Steven Wilson yet? Think you could like that, it's also great and very melodic
Mia Ebdon By Govan Guthrie - one of the best and most moving solos I have heard in a LONG time.
Rolling Stone rated Dave lower than Keith Richards. I used that edition to light a fire in the fire pit and haven't bought that fish wrapper again...Ol Sarge...
Lol! Yeah, how the hell can Richards be considered better than Gilmour??!!
I love how David isn't a super technical player. He stayed fairly simple in his playing instead of becoming some fancy technical player who plays for guitar players. His simplicity is why he is one one of ny favorite players.
I never thought single note string bends could be so masterfully done...Gilmour is without a doubt the king of the world in that regard.
This song moves me every time. I'm from an island.
I remember long summer days with friends and my two brothers. Some long gone. Amongst those who are gone, my two dear brothers. This song gives me consolation.
Thank you, Sir David and Polly!
Thank you Sir David...and thank you Polly
Akárhányszor hallgatom, mindig beleborzongok, senki nem játszik úgy gitáron, ahogy David Gilmour....maradjon meg nekünk sokáig....

Greatest guitarist of all time!
This song makes clear that Mr. Gilmour IS Pink Floyd.
Wonderfull harmonics and sound. And a guitar that makes me emotional and cry.
Thanks for sharing this !
it also helps to have mr richard wright on the keyboards
You are right david gilmour is Pink floyd he can play the Guitar and he can sing very beautiful
And what you say about Mr. Waters?
Guilherme Emmendoerfer force of nostalgia? Gilmour is a much more passionate musician. Waters is drier, more cerebral, and a lyricist. Guilherme Emmendoerfer
for me Waters is a brilliant songwriter, his lyrics are unmatched but some of his personal attitude is just a pain in the arse!
Mr David, your life gonna change when you come to South America !
To have Crosby and Nash doing back up vocals is like a dream. They are like 70 years old here, but it doesn't matter, they are still amazing.
Right note, right time, right intention. Goosebumps. Goosebumps everywhere.
even the members of the band are aprecciating the show and they enjoy every part... that is a real show for everyone
Bellissimo Pezzo...Lo ascolterei Mille Volte!
Caballero Gilmour..ud.,el azul del mar y el cielo son Sublime...lo Amo.❤😊

David Gilmore can give me chills when I hear his ghost guitar. He's the very best.

How can 63 people not like this song....they most not know anything about music...
Dog Man Then why watch the video/listen to it? That's my thing. I personally don't understand not liking it (hehe) but that's their disturbance. Point is, why give it a thumbs down? Thumbs down should be for something offensive or if someone claimed something that was not true in their posting...

On an Island
David Gilmour
Remember that night
White steps in the moonlight
They walked here too
Through empty playground, this ghosts' town
Children again, on rusting swings getting higher
Sharing a dream, on an island, it felt right
We lay side by side
Between the moon and the tide
Mapping the stars for a while
Let the night surround you
We're halfway to the stars
Ebb and flow
Let it go
Feel her warmth beside you
Remember that night
The warmth and the laughter
Candles burned
Though the church was deserted
At dawn we went down through empty streets to the harbor
Dreamers may leave, but they're here ever after
Let the night surround you
We're halfway to the stars
Ebb and flow
Let it go
Feel her warmth beside you.
The music of David Gilmour is a gift from God.

This song takes me to heaven God bless you David
Gilmour is idolized and known all over the world. He just have the right recognition.
We should define "underrated" who is really unknown.
All the lyrics on this album were written by Gilmour's wife, Polly Samson, one of only two women ever credited with writing for Pink Floyd. Polly also co-wrote much of "The Division Bell" song lyrics.

+harold wehner Nice blatant sexism.
Don't forget the fact that his music will last forever.:)
This is a dream turned into music. Masterfully and no one can do it better than him. I can easily get on my knees and cry like a baby every single time I listen to this song. His music goes beyond boundaries.
