Thank you Dave Gilmour for this unique mind blowing solo it will go down in history no one can ever repeat it the way you do❤️❤️❤️❤️

Close as I’ll ever get but I sound damn good because I play it MY WAY! You are unique in your own way. Play it like it’s your last day on this Earth!!!
I turned 70 in September and David Gilmour is Pink Floyd. I came late to Pink Floyd but remain a huge fan to this day. David’s mastery of the guitar is out of this world. I am just happy that I’ve been on this planet for 70 years and shared that time with David Gilmour. One of my all time favorites is Comfortably Numb and I have no idea how many times I’ve listened to it and when my time comes this is the song I will ask to be played.
I have been listening to Pink Floyd since 70 and never get tired of them and his solo on the PULSE album gives me goose bumps and still bring a tear to my eyes after all these years
Isn't it great how many renditions we have of this song and guitar solo - and they're all different!!! If this one is more soulfull, I see the Pulse version as more bluesy. And the Gdansk version perhaps as more ethereal. And so on :) One of these days I'm gonna make me a playlist, or a sampler, with all these versions !
The thing I love about DavidGilmore, is that he is so cool with his ability and status. He looks like he’s just popped out to the shops on a Wednesday night. What a beautiful humble man. He's the only guitarist I've ever heard who makes his guitar cry which in turn makes this 64 year old man cry, he is a treasure and to me, the very best lead guitarist of all time. Personally I prefer the the lead of this song from Pulse but both were fantastic. Thanks for posting.
I was a sick young boy once upon a time, and this song ... no words. Nurses and doctors looked at me, I couldn't understand a word they said, so some of those lyrics just have held on to me. Step forward to you teens and a late, late night during the winter, coming home from a hockey practice, stars shining so bright they cast shadows on a snowy prairie, and behold, Comfortably Numb on the radio. Stopped and enjoyed before carrying on home. Love Live at Pompeii. Just wish the man a happy birthday!
My mom started me listening to pink Floyd pretty much since birth, I'm 34 now. She just bought my girlfriend and I tickets to see him live in LA this year. This man is responsible for most of the soundtrack of my childhood and I love that it's coming full circle into my early adulthood.
My Dad was a massive Floyd fan, I grew up on it, so so lucky.....that distinctive sound of Gilmour's guitar is like no other, literally sends shivers down my spine every time. One of the most underrated Guitar players in History- FACT R.I.P. DAD xx
It’s the only reason I’ve not thrown my guitar on the bonfire. If mr shovel hands can make this sound, it gives me hope. He must have been a learner too! 😊
I was raised on Pink Floyd. My dad was a big fan. I'm 55 now and so glad I was introduced to the magical Dave Gilmour. The man ages but his talent never fades ❤
Of course it's comfortably numb. People can write books about how great this solo is and how a group that grew up from beginners to professionals just got better and better each album. It just kills me parts of it are so simple you are like 'duh' of course you would do that. It sounds amazing, why not. But yet no one else has a solo that even compares to this. His sustains and voicing are just the best.
The raw emotion David wrings out of his Strat is incredible. This is the greatest solo of all time. At the end of the Pink Floyd exhibition at the V&A in London there was a room where they played Comfortably Numb from the Live8 gig on repeat. Wept buckets. I was about 57 then, and this second solo in that song destroys me every time. Bless you, David 🤘🏼

@@tomasneel1980 I totally respect what you say Thomas, but what I’m saying has nothing to do with talent. the amazing thing about him is that he is basically playing blues pentatonic scales that every kid in the world learns but THE FEEL is just beyond anybody. plus it is the chord music movement underneath the soloing that brings out so much emotion to the song. long live the Floyd
Amazing. Listening to this I feel just the way I did way back in 1989, In Stuttgart, at Neckar stadion. And later in 1994, in Vienna, Austria, on that abandoned airport and the same year in Italy, Udine. Timeless. Spacefull. No words are good enough. Thank you, Sir.
Now, this is when classic electric guitar becomes a classical instrument. We’re in a renaissance of classical music finally. Many thanks David for bringing this instrument into history.
It's not anything like classical music, it's entry level minor blues scales, a world apart from classical music but he does play it so well and with so much feel, beautiful
Truly amongst the greatest guitar players ever. Does not receive much credit. You always hear about Clapton, Paige, Hendricks, and Beck. But this guy! This guy wrote riffs and music that defined the soul of rock. The way he bent that string and held that notes. The melodic tunes and riffs that define a genre. Truly truly underrated
His best live performance of Comfortably Numb is widely acknowledged as the Pulse concert at Earl's Court in London in 1994. Having watched this video, my opinion hasn't changed.
I was actually there that night and it was beyond legendary. However, having said that, I absolutely love his solo on the ORIGINAL Delicate Sound of Thunder CD. That's the first version I heard.
David Gilmore creates and plays some of the most incredible guitar jams... IMO. He is a true master of the instrument. What an honor it must be for the accompanying musicians to play with him.

Bowie i feel, was the greatest solo rock artist/performer of all and he was a huge fan of Barrett's songwriting genius and Gilmour's guitar mastery.
Perdi a conta de quantas vezes assisti esse vídeo loucamente apaixonada por vc David Gilmour ❤
for every 50 notes that ANY other guitarist uses, david gilmour uses 1 or 2, and still achieves the same if not MORE feel and emotion; the greatest living guitarist hands down.
In the mid 60s there was an explosion of creativity in British music.... we simply blew the world's mind...
That doesn’t mean Gilmour is a better guitarist
@@sharkmanyt4431 better than the most
@@eliotcfernandes 1 good note is better than 50 fast notes, but 50 good fast notes is better than 1, and there are players who can play way faster and have every note count just as much
@@sharkmanyt4431 well he is one of the greatest guitar player ever and he can sing pretty well.
The guitar has nothing left to give! This is his best solo in Pompeii…. Absolutely perfect!
I always said it, the solo of Pompeii was his best solo ever blows me away every time.
I'm 70 years old and have heard every guitarist from the 60's to the 2020's. My Fav guitarist of all time is David Gilmour. Pink Floyd is AWESOME!
I’m still in awe as he plays this masterpiece, nothing but perfection!!
When someone is that good at something all you can do is sit and watch in respectful silence.
Unless you're at the concert, in person - then you apparently have to hold your cell phone in the air.
I'm 68, my son bought us tickets to David's world simulcast of this Pompeii concert. We watched it together at the cinema, my son became a Floyd & David convert instantly. He still talks about this solo. Thanks David for bringing new generations to your music.
Incredible performance - you can tell that everyone on stage (including Gilmore himself) knew something special was happening …
So true ! Have thought that several times after watching this!
Yes ! 👍
PS : its GILMOUR
@@olivier7779 Yes, of course - thanks for pointing that out! The perils of predictive text … 😉
@@derekclacton
Yes .. i know too.... 😉
You love him but can’t spell his name correctly?
Ikve never been keen on Floyd but this is one heluva guitar solo. Deceptively simple and beautiful.
i stopped my timed test in order to listen, i got chills and my eyes watered
Ah hah ! You're feeling it , eh ?
This man is God of the guitar. This solo will stay forever its beyond words really. I have tried to play it on my homemade black strat but at 65 the fingers are arthritic and Im a crap guitarist. Thank you Dave Gilmour for this unique mind blowing solo it will go down in history no one can ever repeat it the way you do❤️❤️❤️❤️
Keep playing brother. I’m 72 and I always strive to be better. Been playing since 1964. I’ve gotten as close to this solo as I’ll probably ever get and I’m pretty damn close. Close as I’ll ever get but I sound damn good because I play it MY WAY! You are unique in your own way. Play it like it’s your last day on this Earth!!!
Why don't they make this type of stuff nowadays. I feel illegal to born this late.
Because people can't.
You and me both, brother.
Me too!!
I have been listening to Pink Floyd since 70 and never get tired of them and his solo on the PULSE album gives me goose bumps and still bring a tear to my eyes after all these years
The solo on Pulse is my favorite too.
That Pulse solo was a great air guitar experience.... Over and over..... Loved it.
Amen. Each time you hear the music it sounds new.
The Pulse version is by the far the best - pure melodic playing, and I've listened to it 100s of times to perfect it. 100% agree on this one!
The thing I love about DavidGilmore, is that he is so cool with his ability and status. He looks like he’s just popped out to the shops on a Wednesday night. What a beautiful humble man. I remember rushing to the music store (as much as you could on public transport) to buy Dark Side of the Moon, and coming back and playing it over and over, what an absolute mind blowing era. If feel so fortunate to have grown up with this kind of musical influence. It has affected my life in immeasurable ways, still does!
50 + years of this man's iconic jamming and his Solo's still amaze me to this day. It will be a dark dark day when this man leaves us🎸👍❤️
I dread the day. Gilmour got me through some tough times.
@@beatbasher I'm glad to hear that that's what music does sometimes I would lay in a dark room put my headphones on and just listen to Pink Floyd or David Gilmour in the dark it was good therapy for me too
Me too brother! @@beatbasher
My generation cant go that long without checking our phones. Why we will never have this kind of talent hit the billboards again
Mate im 42 still going to gigs. Not gonna lie i find it pathetic and sad when you look around and all you see are phones
I'm hearing ya mate ...
This is proof there is a heaven, where else could this perfect soul have come from!
What I like most is how happy everyone is to play and how they smile. Great atmosphere not only in the audience but also on stage!
Tears flowed the night I witnessed this magic at the Albert hall .
To long lost friends❤
There are many things in my life that I am grateful for, and being alive to hear this for the first time on vinyl the day it was released is one of them.
I'm 72 and lucky to have lived through the era of some of the greatestusic ever recorded and this solo shows just what a brilliant guitarist Gilmour is,never get sick of it
He's the only guitarist I've ever heard who makes his guitar cry which in turn makes this 64 year old man cry, he is a treasure and to me, the very best lead guitarist of all time. Personally I prefer the the lead of this song from Pulse but both were fantastic. Thanks for posting.
Queen’s Brian May is fantastic also! Built his own guitar and plays it like no one else!😊
Gary Moore is incredible as well!!
@@sharonmuntz1872 Imho, his guitar "tone" lacks depth & dimension. 🖤♠
David is on my Mt. Rushmore, but Santana can make it cry. The best is Gary Moore's Still have the Blues.
I"m 65 and all i can say about that performance is . Wow .
Spine tingling, mind numbingly, brilliant - it’s beyond music.
One of the most underrated Guitar players in History- FACT
R.I.P. DAD xx
A man with hands like a builder manages to produce the best guitar solo ever, he makes that Strat sing like an angel. The Guvnor, happy birthday
It’s the only reason I’ve not thrown my guitar on the bonfire. If mr shovel hands can make this sound, it gives me hope. He must have been a learner too! 😊
Boring pentatonic solo but fantastic player and great feel
Wat een geweldige uitvoering van dit prachtige nummer. Onsterfelijke muziek.
Best song and guitar solo ever played it brings me to tears every time I hear it, BEAUTIFUL
The enormity of this song cannot be justified in words. It can only be felt in the soul
YES absolutely!
David played for the angels. A true master. It takes a lifetime to become a master and Gilmour did it. Proud of a fellow human
This song puts chills down my spine everytime I hear it
I was raised on Pink Floyd. My dad was a big fan. I'm 55 now and so glad I was introduced to the magical Dave Gilmour. The man ages but his talent never fades ❤
Add 10 years to it... Still loving it 💜
hearing GILMORE IS A RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE
So true
Amen.
One of the finest pieces of music ever played! Pure genius. Nothing less. Bravo Sir David! 👏
es bestial !!!! increíble, hacia mucho tiempo no lo escuchaba, nunca deja de maravillarme
It's just freakin' perfect. No other word for it. Every note is what it should be and played without mistake. It's a perfect flawless gem.
EXACTLY RIGHT!
Genius doesn't quite cut it. Definitely the best guitar solo I've ever heard. Rock on Dave you are iconic. ❤
Yes 👍
all of us in our 60s 70s and 80s experienced some of the best music and musicians to have blessed the sound waves. We were truly blessed,
Meraviglia della musica. 50 anni di storia avevo 20 anni e adesso oltre I 70 grazie di esistere..💯💯🇮🇹
What an Amazing Musician you are Mr Gilmour. Thank you for all these years
He hasn’t changed in 50 years. Brilliant guitar work.
What more can be said - Speechless. Awesome solo!
Bless you, David 🤘🏼
greatest solo of all time...lol...... glen campbell , hendrix, reed, atkins, emanual , some of my buddies,,, thousands of gifted women, guitard instructors, etc..etc are far far more talented than dave my friend... more popular maybe but not talent wise...
@@tomasneel1980 I totally respect what you say Thomas, but what I’m saying has nothing to do with talent.
I’m not saying that Gilmore is anymore or any less talented than anyone else, all I am saying is that, in my opinion, this solo moves me more than any other. That’s all.
Live long and prosper, my friend.
Absolutely
One of THE BEST guitar solos of all time. PERIOD. Truly out of this world !!
the amazing thing about him is that he is basically playing blues pentatonic scales that every kid in the world learns but THE FEEL is just beyond anybody. plus it is the chord music movement underneath the soloing that brings out so much emotion to the song. long live the Floyd
Still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
@@kippsguitar6539
Indeed, but one day will be looked at as a nouveau or renaissance in the classical world of music. Just give it time.
The stars aligned on this night! David is flawless the drummers enthusiasm is off the charts!
I've seen this at least a hunderd times and every time the goosebumps are getting goosebumps. Thank you, mr. Gilmour! A.k.a the God of guitars!
So much passion and heart felt guitar!
* those notes! 😂😂😂😂
Live in gdansk is the best imo
@@iserz4474 agreed
I must agree. Comfortably Numb off of Pulse brought tears to my eyes. To me, best solo of all time from anyone
Widely acknowledged doesn’t mean it’s right. I prefer this one. But there’s one better still…
Listening to this since I was 10. Never ever gets old. These will be the classics for 50 generations to come.
David Gilmore creates and plays some of the most incredible guitar jams... IMO. He is a true master of the instrument. What an honor it must be for the accompanying musicians to play with him.
