Any organization thats first reaction to giant monsters coming out of the ocean is "Lets build giant robots to punch them in the face" has got my support!
At one point it was proposed that the PPC should construct a series of automated turrets on the sea floor around the Breach, to eliminate kaiju threats as soon as they emerged. But this option was shelved in favour of the Jaeger programme, which was universally accepted as "way cooler."
I'm glad they make an effort to make the Jaegers necessary. 6 days of non-stop fighting and THEN two separate tactical nuclear strike DOES make a pretty compelling case for giant robots
I wish this video had covered Pacific Rim Uprising but then again, the original Pacific Rim is really all you need. I love the wide breadth of universes covered in this channel!

The Pacific rim universe suffers from a movie trope I like to call the "Future is now" theory, basically meaning that under stressful pressure, humanity will somehow make powerful new tech to try to defeat whatever is happening despite the fact this "tech" could never be made in real life. For example, the first Kaiju attack in the Pacific rim films was in 2013 and the movie takes place in 2025, its 2023 now in our reality and our robotics field is still very lacking, especially in our real-life 2013. Other films suffer from this trope too such as Transformers 4/5 and the Hunger games

It wasn't the coast of California. The wiki/novelization claims the floor of Marianas Trench, which is near Guam/Mariana Islands. California is nearly 6,000 miles from Guam. Ignoring for a moment the novelization as a whole, the Breach is within Helicopter distance of Hong Kong.
