Yeah seriously the Tau have some fundamental problems. One of the groups of humans, the Interex in the Great Crusade had managed to secure multiple alliances and gave full rights to aliens within their Empire. The Tau on the other hand just had some tribal warfare on their homeworld, with no technological progress, suddenly they got all united and ventured into the stars. Immediately they subjugated and attacked other groups of aliens, conquering them or at least making the lesser species in their empire have fewer rights. Nah, in other universes, the Emperor would be a bastard. Do you know about the Illusive Man in Mass Effect ? It's quite the same type of people, but he's considered as a villain, and he is propably less a monster than the Emperor, honestly.

@Sagitarrius A* by taxation I mean Tithes that every planet pays. Each and every Imperial planet in 40k pays the yearly tithe (1 standard terran year) it is made up of either Manufactured goods, raw goods, Manpower or Imperial money.
I'm going to say this but your narrator is fucking top notch. I think she's the best narrator by far. Really awesome job with the lore and the animations/montage too. I sometimes don't even know how you manage to put them together so well. I've never been this hooked before.
"Before you continue your enjoyment of our content, you are required to pay homage to our Glorious Liege, the Man-Emperor of Mankind. Failure to comply will trigger a notification to your local Inquisitorial Command."
I'm new on WH40k. Why is the lore so confused? Look at the images: so many things to pay attention, too many mix of references. It' the old and the modern mixed in a endless confusion of ships and classic building. I love it.
Ships are flying cathedrals regardless if the crew are religious or not, they architect is Gothic and skulls and yes there are non religious elements, mainly those who bear the genetics of the emperor.
"Some may question your right to destroy ten billion people. Those who understand know that you have no right to let them live." - Exterminatus Extremis
Lol. I have a wide but shallow understanding of 40k. I once tried getting into the books. I think the fact that there are like 100 of them put me off. It would honestly probably take several decades if not a whole lifetime to know all official 40k lore across all the games books and editions.
Daily reminder that Orcs in this universe have Toyguns filled with fluff and garbage parts that come out as bullets that can rip armors apart. Simply because the Orcs believe their guns will shoot bullets. And their combined Psyker field makes it so.
When you think about it, the Imperium is basically a whale in an ocean with small clusters of dwarf pirhannas. While the pirhannas could reasonably kill the whale, the whale can crush them with sheer size, and survives by sheer virtue of its size and girth, barely noticing the small fangs. Granted, as the Time of Ending starts, some sharks have entered the ocean, but now the whale is getting real teeth.
THE Inquisitor of Inquisitors. How fethed up is the 40k universe? Eisenhorn took down Quixos, a certified radical inquisitor for heresy, smashing his work and thereby destroying the only way to defend Cadia and the Cadian Gate, and possibly, the Imperium of Mankind from Chaos.
@@kamaeqHey now, quixos very probably would have blown up cadia and set the great rift across the galaxy well in advance of failbadon considering trazyn wasn't around to help like he was with cawl. Or maybe he would have closed the eye of terror but Eisenhorn was right that the imperium could not afford the risk. Not to mention he's an amalathean and doesn't like change lol. It just seems stupid in hindsight
Emperor: "Don't worship me because that will cause problems." Humanity: "ok." *Emperor is mortally wounded* "Praise the God Emperor of Man!!" So long as Terra stands the Imperium lives on, if the enemies of man want to crush humanity then they will bleed in their attempt. "To the last man and the last round."
"Ordo Exterminatus... This order is rarely given, and only as a last resort." Well... "rarely", going by Imperial standards. :| When you're at war with 17461 planets, and you have to blow up a couple dozen in a few decades time because there's only so much you can solve by flooding a planet with Astra Militarae, the Imperium can't really be bothered to care. Hell, there have been cases of entire Imperial Sub-Sectors being declared Exterminatae without the Imperium finding out for several hundred years, and even then it's because the planets stopped paying tribute, because the Imperium couldn't give less of a shit about the actual _well being_ of these planets... It's usually only after three to four hundred years before the Imperium starts to wonder: "Hm... This sub-sector has not paid us tribute for a few centuries. Wonder what's going on..." Imperial bureaucracy: _"We know, at any given moment in time, exactly how many planets we controlled five thousand years ago..."_ That kind of bureaucracy is the only reason the Tau still live. The imperium simply can't be _bothered_ to fight them off. The Tau take a few planets in a century and call it a success, that is, of course, until the Imperium sends over a Astra Militarum war-fleet to "check up on the planet's status.", and essentially drive the local Xenos infestation to extinction. And the Tau were absolutely terrified of the Imperium when they first met them. Mostly because they had no idea what was out there. ... And yes, at one point they thought the Imperium was the worst the galaxy had to offer. Then they met the Tyranids, after which they realised that maybe they should just keep to themselves. There have also been cases of Orcs invading Imperial worlds. These cases usually either involve a LOT of fire, or... Well, let's just say that if you've got an entire planet infested with Orcs, it's usually easier to take the planet out of the equation than the Orcs. Basically, in any normal universe, like Star Wars, destroying a planet is a galaxy wide event. In WH40K, it's tuesday morning's coffee break.
Yea, the Tau, are like moskitos. They cause a small puncture, which causes the Imperium to be a little distracted, an call it a decisive victory. Then the Imperium moves a finger and crushes the poor bastards, but it is to devoted to killing annoying rats to really care
Exterminatus is in fact rarely given. Wasting resources of the Imperium is considered treason and many over-zealous Inquisitors were punished for using it as a comfortable solution to their problems. This is also the reason why constant warfronts like Cadia and especially Armageddon haven't been destroyed.
The Faceless one EY! I'm colecting Tau Yes - they are quite weak compare to rest of the world BUT 1. Can't be corrupted by CHAOS 2. The Empire did actually wipe out all life on quite a few planets or turn them into completely dead rocks void of life, while there was outrage everyone was over it within weeks or months at most in some cases. Alderaan Despayre Garrison Moon of Kessel Da Soocha V Hirsi Krinemonen Aeten II Unidentified Mustafar system planetoid Caamas Callos Dankayo Kalaan Ruisto Firrerre Mon Cala This isn't counting flat out genocide aimed at eradicating or pacifying native species while keeping the planet and it's ecosystem intact. Gotta remember the Empire at least in the EU had around a million member worlds so they could defiantly spare a few to destroy and they didn't hesitate to do it.
@@thefacelessone5591 The funny part about the Tau's place in the galaxy is that half the time they have never fought the major brunt of many warzones. Minus the Damocles crusades, they never seemed to have fought the 'major' fragment of any enemy they have ever engaged, such as certain Ork Waaaghs or Tyranid hivefleets. Their only Amregeddon-tier invasion was the first Damocles Crusade, and the Imperium only let the off because the First Tyrannic War was starting to get to a point where it couldn't be ignored anymore. If I recall current lore, the Death Guard are currently headed to Tau space EN MASS to give them their first sign of what 40k scale can really be.

THERE IS ONLY WAR! 40K is easily the deepest and most bonkers of all lore in any science fiction. It's draining, it's occasionally written to suit the tabletop, it's often written for no purpose whatsoever other than to further add to the pile of lore, it's ridiculous, brutally miserable and frequently glorious.
@@TheNightWatcher1385 Maybe not that many. There are, what, a few trillion human soils in the Imperium? Maybe only a hundred billion or so soldiers. Probably more
Crap! You’re right! I was about to comment on that, myself. Good point... Although... Did Horus know that he was leading 9 brothers? Food for thought...
Although everyone always considers the Imperium of Man incredibly violent and warlike, note that it is described to have 'countless trillions' of people, and 'countless millions' of guardsmen. That means only about 1 in a million men is in the guard, the largest part of the military. That would be like if the USA had a military of about 300 to 400 men. So even though on a galactic scale the imperium is constantly fighting for survival, for most people the war is actually far away, with only a few people serving even in a huge metropolis. However those huge peaceful populations on safe planets just are not as interesting...
The Imperium population have 8,300 quadrillion across 1.5 milion planet or world settled by human in the hive world The astra milintarum or Imperial guardsman have 500 trillion until 30 quadrillion forces so thats pretty small from the general population But since started of "Time of ending" period from 560 M41 until M41.999 or Indomitus era, much probably majority of imperium of man is remilitarized from ongoing threat from 13th Chaos Black Crusade that destroy famous fortress world cadia, T'au Expansion, Necron wake up, Tyranid Hive fleet devoured & Genestealer threat in most Imperium Hive & civilized world probably now the Imperial Guardsman number can reach Hundred of quadrillion
The Imperial Guard has hundreds of trillions in lore. But I wouldn't take numbers too literally or put much stock in them. The themes are more important. The Imperium has at least a million worlds scattered across the galaxy but that could easily be many millions more.
This is only the guards though, each planet has their own militia, hell krieg alone produces so many soldiers they basically get away with anything they want

"Ordo Exterminatus... This order is rarely given, and only as a last resort."
Well... "rarely", going by Imperial standards. :|
When you're at war with 17461 planets, and you have to blow up a couple dozen in a few decades time because there's only so much you can solve by flooding a planet with Astra Militarae, the Imperium can't really be bothered to care.
Wonder what's going on..."
Imperial bureaucracy: _"We know, at any given moment in time, exactly how many planets we controlled five thousand years ago..."_
That kind of bureaucracy is the only reason the Tau still live.

I have watched this a number of times already.
It is a impressive and epic production.
Of all the Templin Institute has done, this is in my top 5.
Bring it you dredges, The Emperor Protects !!!
This level of attention to detail and the incredibly unique setting are why I love 40k :)
Good job summarising it!
Millions of Imperial Guardsmen? Oh please, it's billions, BILLIONS.
Tomasz Kiełtyka I’d wager trillions.
@@TheNightWatcher1385 Maybe not that many. There are, what, a few trillion human soils in the Imperium? Maybe only a hundred billion or so soldiers. Probably more
@@Callsign_Bear A lot of the stories describe the population of the Imperium as, “endless trillions.”
@@TheNightWatcher1385 Oh my bad. You right
Oh puhlease remember to add three 0 to the GW number in regards to astra militarum. Its probably low quadrillion.
Ah my glorious imperium
Father what is your command again during our meeting?
Weren't you both still stuck on that life supporting toilet?
fulcrum 29 im the one stuck on the golden throne, he’s just in a pod.
Father what is your command again?
The Emperor Soul Fragment #12241337 no we still need him
"with nine of his brothers, split the Imperium in two" I was like "Wait, he had 8-" before realizing alpha legion's dirty secret...
Crap! You’re right! I was about to comment on that, myself. Good point...
Although... Did Horus know that he was leading 9 brothers? Food for thought...
Eh, actually still 8 because one of the Alpha Legion's primarchs was secretly loyal to the Emperor.
@@11Survivor Or was he?
@@rumpelstilzz That Primarch (if he really is one) is a walking headache for everyone...
@@DetectiveLance There's no Alpha Legion. This are II and XI Legions hidden under this moniker and presumed "pruge"

The Imperium population have
8,300 quadrillion across
1.5 milion planet or world settled
by human in the hive world
The astra milintarum or Imperial guardsman have 500 trillion
until 30 quadrillion forces
so thats pretty small from
the general population
But since started of "Time of ending"
period from 560 M41 until M41.999
or Indomitus era,
much probably majority of imperium
of man is remilitarized from ongoing threat from 13th Chaos Black Crusade that destroy famous fortress world cadia, T'au Expansion, Necron wake up,
Tyranid Hive fleet devoured & Genestealer threat in most Imperium
Hive & civilized world
probably now the Imperial Guardsman number can reach
Hundred of quadrillion
Terra itself has quadrillions of humans
They probably have Billions of Guardsmen.
The Imperial Guard has hundreds of trillions in lore. But I wouldn't take numbers too literally or put much stock in them. The themes are more important. The Imperium has at least a million worlds scattered across the galaxy but that could easily be many millions more.
This is only the guards though, each planet has their own militia, hell krieg alone produces so many soldiers they basically get away with anything they want
i dont know if its irrational when there are literal demons that can pop out of thin air anytime you get angry...or happy...or sad...
Bring it, HERETIC. Better than you have tried and all they did was clog up my chainsword. FOR THE EMPEROR!

This is probably my favorite Templin Institute video.
"This terrible order is rarely given, and only as a last resort"
I don't suppose you've seen the opening of spacemarine
Just because it was the first option mentioned doesn't make it also the last resort. After all, Graia didn't get the planetary fireworks did it?
To be fair it was about to be infiltrated by chaos
This is just superb. The narrator, music, amount of information. Wished there were videos like this when I started with 40K 18 years ago.
And the laughter of thirsting gods.
Questioning the benevolence of the Imperium is heretical.
Isaiah Young when opression and lies become law, heresy and rebellion is a duty.
Isaiah Young Say it to st. Sebastian Thor
SonsOfLorgar+ I smell... heretic! Blasphemer! Heresy and rebellion shall be purged from the holy Imperium! Ave Imperator, eradico haeretici!
Don't you mean "malevolence"?
Anyone who believes the Imperium is benevolent lacks any sense and it would be better if they were removed from the gene pool
