because Linus doesn't need a reference monitor. he'd be wasting money buying a 30,000 monitor.
Not actually that expensive, I opted for a cat7 solution with 10 Gbps instead because fiber is a bitch if something breaks but the setup actually saved me money compared to regular upgrades when I did it last year. Plus now I will only ever need to upgrade the server instead of each individual machine.
I just want to buy this so I can finally play Solitaire in 6k
I usually play solitaire on a table that looks rly good I can look around and bend the cards, I can even feel the glass on the table

If he had paid for those TVs then you would be 100% correct, however he didn't so its not quite as insane for changing out the TVs... the monitor is still madness for anyone other than studios that do tons of content that needs that level of accuracy, Comparing the price to the other reference monitors it does seem a better price but its still absurd, even more so with their obvious "apple cost" for the basic equipment and that you have to use a Mac just to get the most out of it at all.

The monitor isn't intended for you to watch TH-cam videos on. It's not a mass market monitor.
At 5:18, I would like to correct Linus, you are able to get Bootcamp drivers for Windows by making a new bootcamp partition on a new Mac, and then copy the drivers to a USB, you can force them to install on a non-bootcamp copy of Windows by running the installers direct from Command Prompt.
Such a hassle tho
Running bootcamp on my Imac was an absolute nightmare. Any apple product more then like 4 years old has little to no support with bootcamp, you really have to know what your doing to make it work.

@@h.m.chuang0224 Ive had seamless experiences before as well. You got lucky, its a hit or miss. Bootcamp either works perfectly or its the worst experience ever. (I also fried my GPU after bootcamp lol)

I love this, though I’d love to see you guys do something similar in the pro audio sphere. Not consumer, but pro audio production. I’m not sure if that’s something to dabble in, but I’d love to hear your take on pro studio reference monitors, developments in the digital recording arena, bit depth and whether the pros (or consumers) can REALLY tell a difference. “Does analog really sound better than digital?” Something like that. I’m craving it!
As an audio engineer, I’d probably dig it, but I’d also laugh at him in the process.
I can’t imagine why he’d wanna though. Outside of engineers, audiofiles, and muso’s, podcasters, and maybe voice actors, no one really cares about audio from what I’ve found.
The Apple looks great on my 10 year old HP monitor, lol.

I'd love to see how the apple pro display holds up against an asus pro art display. I've been considering one of the pro art displays for a while, but never could find a good enough review or comparison to something similar.
Considering that it would play nicer with windows too, it would be great to see the comparison

if you use mac the pro display might be better, but for windows users, the asus proart is likely better
Mr.Huggles prad.de has a thorough review (in German). They had reservations about calibration issues, fan noise (I don’t hear the fan on mine), power consumption and other stuff, but still gave it a respectable 88%.
I would love to see a comparison to the new LG CX 48" TV coming out soon. I get there not in the same category but when it comes to colour grading footage I would much rather spend $2000 per screen than $5000. At least the look I get on an LG OLED TV is equivalent to what 70-80% of your audience will view your content on.

To sum up, Apple made a monitor with a relatively reasonable price in contrast to other high-end pro monitors but it definitely doesn't make you use it with Windows.

@@BarbaraKrolOfficial brightness and other features are software controlled in OS X settings panel. Windows, unless you were to run it on a Mac via bootcamp, doesn't have drivers for the XDR so while the monitor works it can't be calibrated.
@@aegonthedragon7303then just get the XDR drivers it can work on a regular windows machine. That's how I'm able to use all my apple accessories (DVD drive, Ethernet to USB) on my laptop
I'd say if they can bring such quality in such an expensive market for a low price then they you get a free pass for not letting people use it with Windows

@5:37 I use AMD 5500XT, single DP1.4 to TB3 cable and windows recognized it as Apple Pro Display. You can then adjust the color depth to 12-bit using the AMD graphics software. And you get the full native 6K with a single cable.

Me too. I don't mind if it does not have SDI inputs, because even with a good quality SDI to DisplayPort / Thunderbolt box the price will be still competitive. (Thanks for the AJA shoutout! And yes, that mentioned box IS an SDI to Thunderbolt box)

So a monitor costs usually 150 average. Thats literally 1 day of full work for most people. Most people in America make less than 3000 a month on full time 40 hour weeks... this means basically this apple monitor is about 2.5 months of working in america, or for most people about 10 months of roof rent for a room in a family home. More if youre single and pay 1000 a month, then the monitor is 5 months of full time american rent in most normal small cities
@@isak4181 The Mac Pro doesn't know what it is. Sure, it's BUILT to be in a studio setting, but it's outlandishly overpriced for the constituent parts that are in it. A case can be made for the Pro Display XDR, but the Mac Pro has no excuse

Worldwide median (i.e. half of people make less, and other half makes more) annual household income per capita (not the best metric as household contains non-working children, but gives rough idea) is $3000.
That is $8 per day. Or $12ish per working day (assuming 21x12 working days in a year).
So yea, $150 is nowhere near being the income for one day of work for most people.
