  • Landing and Take-Off from St Helena, British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic Ocean. The short runway built on a cliff of the island features frequent Windshear and requires specially trained Pilots. Add the Isolated location of St Helena more than 1100km away from the nearest island (over 2000km from the nearest big Landmass) and you’re in for an adventure.
A smooth approach with a windshift crossing the cliffs.
Our flight from Johannesburg Via Walvis Bay to St Helena and back to Johannesburg on Airlink Embraer 190.

It’s just a big rock in the ocean. Very impressive table top runway.

When you video flight landing/departure do you use your phone and a mount to the window or just hand held?

When flying to these remote islands I imagine you'd have to carry full fuel as your alternative would be hundreds of miles away, possibly a thousand? St Helena, and Easter Island in the Pacific come to mind for instance. Any comments?

We have a video here regarding the airport 🇸🇭DANGEROUS Airport in the MIDDLE of the Atlantic Ocean

I believe they likely have fuel to reach Ascension Island however they try very much not to divert there instead they decide en route to turn back to African mainland if they think they can’t land. Happens occasionally (this week for example they turned back to JNB having left Walvisbay to St Helena). St Helena is more complicated than Easter Island (which is a big airport with good landing facilities and more stable weather). Also Easter Island can receive Heavy aircrafts such as B787

The plane can land on ascension island 700 miles away if any problems it always carries enough fuel.which has always been the plan lovely island.
