    The grab the cassette tape mission is actually super interesting because the cassette you grab is actually a dud and the real cassette can be found when you confront the insider gent who will then tell you the real location. He reveals that the one he put out for you is fake in a dialogue with his buddy that you can totally miss because he just says it when chilling with the other guard

      That whole philosophy is the core of this game and the next game. Always seeking more information thru playing the missions again and again. What would normal be "easter eggs" in other games are integral to figuring out all of the story and the gameplay.@@Ghooly

      People are so quick to say mgsv had like 0 story but they just didn’t explore like you mentioned. THAT kind if ludonarrative is how the story is primarily conveyed. That and the tapes. The cutscenes are the big moments, but the mysteries and intrigue are IN the gameplay, found through exploration and replaying missions

    when I first bought MGSV from my local game shop they accidentally put the Ground Zero disk in the game case instead of MGSV. I played for a little while before realising it wasn't MGSV and I am glad I tried it out. Always thought that looking MGSV as a whole Ground Zeros was the best mission, be the great level design and story. Heck the side quest were better thought out than most in Phantom Pain, I really wishes that the main game were segmented in big areas like Camp Omega rather than a big open world

    • @Hectrrod
      @Hectrrod 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It was the best mission of MGSV and it was the better produce cutsenes and story. Its funny how perspective changes things since GZ was "divisive" in 2014 because it was short but that short segment was amazing and when you go to the rest of MGSV yes it's longer and smoother but better? I don't think so. It ended up been the most important segment of the entire game.
      Also that GZ mission is the only MGS chapter that you can say it's very dark and realistic with no campiness like we have in all the rest of the series. Its very strange how Kojima treated GZ and I wonded why was that aproach taken for only one short mission but was abandoned in TPP. I guess that was the point of been a phantom I guess.

  • @NeuroticMei
    @NeuroticMei 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +83

    I think the main reason GZ shines brighter as a stealth game over TPP is because in GZ you don't have the freedom to approach from any angle. You don't have the security of being able to disengage at any time and come back from the other side.
    Though in TPPs defense I will say MGS games have always been a 'choose your own difficulty' game. If you don't like supply drops don't use them. If you don't like buddies don't use them. I for one cannot stand tranquilizers. I think they make things way to easy but the beauty of MGS is you don't have to use it. There's no point where it's required.
    You can try to argue "I shouldn't have to limit myself for a game to be good" and in most cases I would say you are right... but not when it comes to MGS. As I said you choose your own experience in these games and the games are built in such a way that you are able to do just that. You can absolutely go OSP on any mission only relying on CQC/Knife. I mean the game even lets you turn off all hud elements if you think marking makes things to easy.
    Story telling aside, just purely looking at variety and gameplay, TPP is one of the best in the series. Great assortment of weapons (even if they're not real) that are fully customizable to your liking. Plenty of outfits to suit whatever style you like. So many fun toys to support the three main gameplay styles. Those being perfect stealth, lethal stealth and weapons free. (if you think going loud isn't an MGS thing to do let me just point you towards the forced encounters in previous games like the stairwell in MGS1) And a pretty sizeable modding community for extra content. (currently playing as MGS2 Snake with David Hayter's voice and loving it)
    My main complaint is the variety of sneaking type locations. You've got Afghanistan (desert), central Africa (plains/jungle), FOBs (Big Shell)... but where's the urban maps? I know there's a few bases in the game but there's not enough indoor facility type sneaking to scratch that MGS1 itch. You've got everything else but it's missing a MGS1 style map. I modded the GZ map into TPP and it's amazing but even that isn't quite the same as MGS1. Someone please make an arctic map with heavy focus on indoor facility infiltration... If it had that I believe TPP (gameplay wise) would be the definitive MGS experience.
    Oh and one more complaint about TPP... Skullface is such a weak villain and you don't even get a boss fight with him. But that's not really a gameplay complaint.
    I feel people honestly just get held up on the fact that the game is supposedly unfinished. Even though Kojima himself said it was. I mean just look at all the prior games. Especially MGS4. His full vision was never realized in any of them. So TPP isn't any different.

    I have been saying for years, MGS is best when you are in a closed, mini-sandbox with a goal to achieve or reach; Peace Walker was exactly that, and it was in a lot of way the best way to play.
    Phantom Pain was just TOO MUCH:
    - Mother Base ? The novelty of visiting it wore off pretty quickly.
    - Getting from one outpost on the map to another ? Tedious.
    - The weapons, items, and vehicles ? Un-necessary.
    Ground Zeroes was the closest to MGS perfection. If Phantom Pain was like it and Peace Walker (select a mission from the menu, get immediately dropped in, fulfill the objective, and exit the mission area), that would have been much better than what we got.

    GZ vs TPP is a prime example and proof that well designed, hand-crafted, relatively compact LEVELS > fuck-huge, generated open world maps.
    It's also so unbelievably higher quality GAME than its brother, and also a straight sequel to the equally amazing Peace Walker; the real "MGS5" game that sadly too few people even played.

    You had me until the end. While I agree Ground Zeroes is such a great game, The Phantom Pain expanded the design and your personal arsenal. You can repeat any of the missions and complete them with a variety of different strategies like GZ. Your imagination is given even more agency in TPP than GZ.
    Anyways, I still enjoyed the video and thanks for sharing. We all could use more Metal Gear in our entertainment lives.

    I went back to 100% GZ after 100%ing TPP and the increased difficulty of GZ (increased guard vision, claustrophobic level) was very much appreciated. Sometimes in the TPP the immersion was broken for me because of how much they toned down the guard vision, thankfully on PC with Infinite Heaven you can bump it up. I wish there were more locations like Camp Omega in TPP. Nova Braga airport, OKB Zero, and FOBs capture some of it, but don't really hold a candle to Omega. I was a bit miffed when I realized that there were almost no building interiors at the Afghanistan Central Basecamp. Also agree with the daytime levels as well, are there even any missions in TPP that force daytime?

  • @Eonymia
    @Eonymia 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    One thing I noticed with Ground Zeroes that was annoying was how the aiming worked with "points". As in when using a scoped weapon, you could only turn the scope in certain increments, instead of smoothly. I literally could not snipe one of the enemies in a guard tower because the aiming would jump between two spots when trying to slightly adjust my aim and he happened to stand in between those 2 spots the game decided I could aim at.

    stealth perfection is a title I’d give to the hitman games, everything feels alive, stealth feels simple yet complicated, failing anything has consequences, but the thing that fails could be a chandelier under the target.

  • @YouMystMe
    @YouMystMe หลายเดือนก่อน

    I wonder...
    The cardboard box can represent a sort of safety, as you said, but through the events of GZ we see that Mother Base is no longer safe. The threat seems to see all, know all. They were comfortable, safe, in their "box" (Mother Base) and now they no longer have that safety. So we no longer have our cardboard box.
    Their "cardboard box" cant protect them from the rain.
    Just like all the imagery (E-52-3) and dialogue through MGSV; GZ is a mirror image of TPP.
    GZ was stealthy (no tools). TPP was all out war (all the tools).

    I'm glad people are finally coming around on Ground Zeroes, I remember plenty of people were upset that it was "too short" but after playing Phantom Pain I became disappointed that it wasnt as tightly designed as Ground Zeroes. Imo, Ground Zeroes is the best set of missions in all of mgs5, and thats rather unfortunate. Phantom Pain has so many problems that simply werent an issue in ground zeroes due to its laser focus on pure stealth action

    This is weird for a game like this, I was wsiting for Phantom pain but for some reason, I grew with this. It's something special in a lot of ways and when it was made. A fan and kojima that made for the fans and was fun. But also the stealth, the machanics and atmosphere. Compare to tpp you got levels that have different atmospheres but the same sandbox, and where the enemies are placed that make it feel differently in its angles, like you get a characteristic of each of the position's of people and they are perivced where they are placed, just like in mgs2. But what is very interesting is that many things will be going off while your not present. And that tells alot. Information gose by very sutblely and swiftly and you go back for more of it. I still play it till this day. And aswell the anti-gun level with the clear blue atmosphere, gives this early 2010s feel, in some weird way. Just everything was back then and nice.

    The stealth and level design is really great on mgsv. Since you like it i would strongly recommend to try hitman world of assasination trilogy. Its not open world of course but each level is open-ended with many many ways to deal with the targets, very replayable too and kinda goofy sometimes. I can see many similarities on those two games and even though they are very different i think that if someone enjoy mgsv will enjoy hitman too

    It might sound like a weird take but I think The Last of Us Part II is actually very similar in design to Ground Zeroes. Most levels follow the structure of medium-sized environments with a ton of freedom in terms of which path to take and how to deal with enemies. Obviously the tools at your disposal are very different but the same sense of freedom and sandbox-like level design is very much there in certain levels, and I'd be surprised if Ground Zeroes wasn't a big inspiration for it

    There is a spot in camp omega I hardly use is west side of the map where you start from. I hardly go past this camp site area only for.... that prisoner or just taking out the tank in da ja va missions. I would of loved if konami extended the level further. And for some reason I still get updates, for what reason idk.... some for tpp, that only options of stuff have changed but nothing else. But it would be nice to havd more into ground zeros. And go inside the buildings. As its a small game I think it would easily be done fitting more in.

      Yeah and it's super obvious too. The story doesn't feel finished at all, the open world is super empty with most of the bases being too similar, the upgrade system feels disjointed and wrong, there's no difficulty options, the post game content is just the same missions again but on "hard" difficulty, most of the story missions feel like side ops, etc.
      The game is obviously unfinished. I don't know why but I'm assuming it was rushed for one reason or another.
