There was a point where I was about to go to bed and realized that I had been drinking 4 beers and a bottle of vodka and I felt relatively sober and functional. That was the exact moment I realized that I must have crossed a threshold. Then I tried to quit the first time and thus started an 8 year plus battle.

i agree 100% that marijuana is addictive. i have been dealing with marijuana addiction since i was 14, im 25 this year. i dont even know how it feels to be a sober adult having smoked every day for the last 10 years of my life. the feeling like you cant live without marijuana is so relatable. it is my mental crutch, it is my coping mechanism. i am still working on learning how to live life without weed and im not going to lie, its hard. i am not an alcoholic but i have met many friends along the way who are and your videos are a powerful insight into this insidious web self destruction. thank you man and i hope things keep going well for you.

100% man 85 completely takes over your life. To the point that you can’t do anything without smoking. You goto the store you smoke, you shower you smoke, you eat you smoke, you workout you smoke, every single thing in your life revolves around smoking and if you don’t smoke you can’t even do it because it’s so bizarre.

Bro i was diagnosed with the same thing; Severe anxiety disorder and panic disorder. I believe that anxiety attacks and panic attacks is the one of the 2 worse pains a human can feel. Loss of a loved one and anxiety and panic attacks. Add alcohol withdraw to it the anxiety is fucking uncomprehendable. Pure sheer terror. I've came close to a heart attack from it

Hey kuhzzy I completely understand, I think you’re pretty spot on with that. A severe panic attack truly feels like you’re dying and your brain has no way to tell you that you’re not. It’s traumatic, leaves you with ptsd. Like you said add the withdrawal to it and you really have ptsd. Certain smells and things will take me right back there again and almost send me in an instant panic.
Those numbers are super scary!!! Anxiety when it’s bad enough 100% becomes physical and not just mental anymore. Please be safe my friend and know you aren’t alone!!! God bless 💯

    Nice video Slayer!
Once you start drinking alone, that's where things really go south. Of course there is nothing wrong with having a beer or two after work to unwind, but "real" alcoholics don't just stop at one or two drinks. It snowballs into infinite.. it's a death spiral, literally.
Just as you and probably many others, when I first started drinking it was awesome, get a nice buzz goin', get a bit more talkative (especially nice for shy and introverted people) - But then you realize it helps dramatically with anxiety/panic disorder so you implement that into your daily or near daily routine. Eventually you feel as though you cannot be yourself and truly unwind without a few drinks in you.
Eventually the alcohol takes over every aspect of your life and it's not longer just a social thing. You are constantly thinking about drinking. It really is hell.
I'm 4 months sober almost to the day and I rarely think about it anymore. Although I have had a handful of dreams of drinking or going to buy alcohol, it's very weird.
Once the physical withdrawal symptoms settle down you can start to think more clearly and you will realize it really is an actual poison and is low-key destroying your life.
I have thought a few times, "damn, it would be great to have a few beers on this hot summer day," but it passes within a few minutes and the thought is completely gone.
Dealing with the negative aspects are just not worth it.
Drinking was awesome at the beginning, then it became the devil. Some people just need the wake up call one way or another to beat it.
I was thinking about this the other day, life is literally just a chain of impulses, we live on it and go from one to the other. If we can control our impulses, we can (somewhat) control our life.

This comment is spot on 💯 I can totally relate. Congratulations my friend on the 4 months!!!!! That is AMAZING bro. If no one else has said it, I’m proud of you man. Your video made me think today, that even within your community there is an amazing group of deep, strong, kind, and courageous people here all rooting for you bro. And i think that addiction is very much a consitant death and rebirthing process for the human psyche that it humbles us on such a profound level where we are so close to death in our relapses, and then find the true desire to live and to overcome and bring joy and peace into the world. It truely is a unique battle that unfortunately not everyone wins. But i can see your rebirthing is stronger than ever after this last relapse. Its been awesome and healing in a lot of ways to view your journey

@@Slayer-7373yo, I wanted to add something more about that “forcefield” analogy. I know from experience how bad it sucks to get in great physical shape and then convince myself I can handle a drink like “normal people”. Then after a six month bender, I am sick, fat, weak, depressed, and facing a week of withdrawals. I have gotten to the point where I am just not willing for this to happen again. I am stronger than ever now and I know I am not “normal” when it comes to substances and I am really at peace with that. I consider myself a convalescent party animal. Learning soo much in IOP. It truly sucks to have to actually feel things u have avoided for 4yrs. Being sober almost a month, I'm seeing and feeling so many things. It can help tremendously but it also can cause extreme anxiety and brain hyperexcitability (which I guess has something to do with genetics). You sound like the true sober you now - I've noticed after a relapse your videos lack energy but this one has your trademark Slayer passion. I'm so happy you're doing something active to keep sober (the outpatient program) and it's encouraging that your parents are involved. That's awesome for you, but awesome for them because they'll get to understand that you're an addict and not just a badly behaved son. As long as you lock into your head that the next time you drink YOU WILL DIE you should be ok. I'm terrified of picking up a drink, I've convinced myself that if I relapse I'll have a withdrawal seizure after a few days and die. I don't mean to use scare tactics but it's reality. You've pushed your luck SO hard lately, the next relapse statistically means death.

Hey Slayer!!! I'm so happy for you for both the program and the family counseling!! I really hope that the counseling helps you all!! I also hope that the program supports you well! I am so glad that you're able to share your wisdom with those individuals in real time. I hope that they take it seriously and it sticks with them. As far as pot, it's just substances!! I was the same way! If something helps me escape, I just want to stay in that altered state of mind at all times. Pot now makes me anxious, so I'm definitely not susceptible to picking that up ever again! I am anxious enough naturally haha
This topic is so important because the change from fun to addiction comes out of nowhere. You see small signs, and if you don't want to look at them, or you don't notice them, then by the time you're willing to look, it feels impossible to turn it around. But it's not impossible. It may take a long time to get it right, but it's SO worth it
It's freedom when you step away from addiction. Hopefully, someone will watch your videos and turn back before that point ever even comes. Big love, Slay!! So glad you're doing well ❤❤❤🎉

Been catching up on your videos, so sry I'm late to this one, but I 'll chime in on the weed thing. I started smoking weed at 14 years old and was totally against drinking, but was a massive pot head and I'll say that I was never addicted to pot on a physical lvl, but I WAS addicted to getting a buzz on a mental level. I was even taking pills that I shouldn't have been taking to get me high, till I OD'd on them and had to go to the ER...That quickly put a stop to my pill taking days which only lasted maybe a year and a half and never got hooked on them. I was addicted to a buzz, so when I moved out of state I lost all my weed connections...That's when I started drinking....Had to get high some how, I told myself and it's legal and also would never have all those bad stories I had heard about booze happen to me. WRONG. That's a very big wrong. I had started drinking the way I used to smoke weed. All day every day. Kinda wish I had stuck to weed. Ya, I've heard people say they need to smoke weed and it's physically addictive. was never that way for myself...When I didn't have smoke, which was almost never, I got "The Jones" for it, that's all, but weed is a strange drug and seems to effect different people differently. Some people may have a natural genetic tolerance for booze, like if you're Irish or Russian decent. I'm of the previous decent, but booze WILL catch up to anyone no matter whatever. At this point I'd say that booze is the worst drug and should be banned, but that's a double edged sword. Anyways, rock on and GL to all reading this. :)

No need to apologize at all my friend!! I’m glad you are here now. I can totally relate to what you wrote about w33d. I started drinking when green was getting too much for my pockets so I switched to booze. That was the start to disaster. Green was always very mentally addictive for me and it sucked when I’d run out. I honestly agree about booze being the worst drug too…. It’s absolutely disastrous. Thanks for this awesome comment brother 🙏

Man you can't believe how lucky you are! 1,5 year straight! And you not only still can talk, you're intelligent and articulate, I've seen people lose their entire shit for exactly this period of hard use of cocaine and alcohol, they can't walk anymore, they don't have any working memory and his speech is awful, it's sad! You are absolutely lucky! I'm so happy for you! Please study something difficult like mathematics, you are really smart and intelligent, you should work with that and let it evolve, make another man out of you

@@Slayer-7373 this comment of mine made me realise, alongside other symptoms like dropping things constantly, that I'm showing early signs of dementia. Although I don't think I ever was an alcoholic, I've had my share of booze until I was 48 and now I'm scared. Come Monday, I'll search for medical advice. I'll let you know if it gets confirmed. In any event, thanks for your content.

@@LevelupJay i completely understand man, I went on a year and half binge, it was brutal, so brutal coming off of it. You will thank yourself man if you get medically detoxed, don’t put yourself through the hell and danger of white knuckling it. Then once you’re out just give it time, when I was sober for almost 4 months I started to finally feel some what normal then I drank again and it reversed it. Not true. You never learned moderation. You only believe in pendulum swings… dry on one side, drunk on the other. I think you need maturity.

@@Slayer-7373 look at why. Our society demonizes alcohol, rebels take it on as a cause. The legal drinking age is 21. In France 16 year old kids can have wine at restaurants.
Now look deeper. Per capita, France consumes twice as much alcohol as Americans do. And France has three times less cirrhosis of the liver.
The problem is demonizers of alcohol equate consumption with alcoholism. The above data clearly disproves that.
You are an alcoholic based on our social construct that didn’t teach moderation. It seems you have no control over consumption. So without self control then yes stay sober.
