Whenever I got a little tired of using my left hand for the joystick I tried to do this, I never did it because it was quite difficult for me to continue exploring that way, but I always believed it was possible.
I had this idea and wondered if it would be possible to beat the entire game without moving if you start with all abilities. It isn’t but it would be neat if someone did a no right or a no left run if that’s possible

This is such a fascinating restriction. It makes me wonder if it's possible to beat the whole game this way, if you start with movement abilities and everything that requires directional inputs to get (like dnail), but still need to get all the dreamers. I also wonder if wings is strictly necessary. Directionless Watcher Knights would probably be a lot of fun. Another variant that might be interesting is allowing only pressing down, since that opens up pogos and interactions (so putting dnail back in the route to actually pick up.) Could make a new fun ridiculous TAS gimmick; might want to start with dashmaster too, just to cut out a lot of the dead time between dashes. Are there any areas you've encountered that are just straight up impossible with these rules?
Disallowing only left/right would also add in upslashes, which let you do cheeky things like upslash an enemy and dash under them while they're knocked in the air. Only works on some enemies, but it's pretty fun and would save a lot of time for a TAS, probably.

**maybe**, sharp shadow would be useful for such challenge since it increases distance of shade charged dash. I don’t see any practical applications since it’s not consistent, but if that guy from comments still want to do TAS of this it may work

It is 100% possible to make the jump to fungal wastes at 10:37. You just need to make sure you wall-jump off one of the ridges on the right, after that a double-jump and a dash will do the trick.
This is kinda neat, as I’ve been trying to beat the game like this. I’ve given myself all charms and abilities, and just need to grab the dreamers. I’ve managed to get to Monomon, but got stuck trying to get out (I think I know how to do it now, but I need to re-defeat Uumuu.) Currently I’ve been working on reaching Herrah. Almost made it to the hot spring in Deepnest, but I got soft locked and had to quit out. Lurien shouldn’t be bad if I can just reach and defeat the Watcher Knights. I know I’ve unlocked the bridge there, don’t remember anything beyond that. The hard part will be if I want to beat the radiance. Might also see about trying Traitor Lord + White Palace + Birthplace before hand, make it more legit.

I love the idea! Really the kind of challenge in a game that would only be found in a game like Hollow Kinght which has a huge fanbase who are waiting for Silksong for seven years. I guess most of the flukes were because of the dash length being different between shadow dash and regular dash, so it sometimes goes just a little too far or not far enough. But still you did it and that's pretty cool. What path were you thinking of by going through Fungal Wastes before giving up the jump? Left side City or Deepnest by using tram? (I'm assuming that since you used Cyclone Slash that did use the up button if you had to interact with something you would have since it still doesn't really make you move like left, right and down)
the path is under crossroads left of the aspid arena (the intended path into fungal wastes). the up was kept for interactions and for cyclone slash to fall faster
I think this could be a cool and fun mechanical speedrun challenge like PoP speed runs, especially if charms are allowed, I also think down should be a valid input so you can pogo since it doesn't really effect movement anyway
i dont think pop is possible, there are a few sections where you need to go around floating “walls” so you need to change directions midair Other challenges could be interesting though

Made it all the way to the top of crystal peak only to find that the transition to hallownest's crown (literally the last possible spot) is impossible. I planned to make a video on it but I gradually stopped playing the game before ever doing so.
are you taking about 1:35 ? if so, yea, I just needed to turn around but I didn't get stuck also, I did mention that it was terribly cut lol I know it's kinda bad
technically no, i great slash is just holding the attack but if you only have cyclone slash, it will do it without needing to press any directions also 0:07

Completing the game jumpless is possible (for a TAS), but it uses a ridiculous range of glitches. The jumpless TAS is by Krythom if you're curious. Ironically, it would actually be easier on latest patch (since you can get noclip and godhome mms), but Krythom used a more interesting older patch with a ruleset where you actually still need to navigate all the rooms. King's Pass alone is a work of art to escape without any abilities and without jumping.
that part of the run spliced for convenience sake, I entered that room by accident and just needed to turn around so I cut that part out no nefarious schemes here especially with hollow knight (unless it's really obvious)

Yeah…I didn’t like how confusing crossroad was. A lot of the spacing was weird and some walls couldn’t be jumped off of 😑 but i made it eventually

Unfortunately, the path through false knight is blocked because of the infection. if it wasn’t, then i definitely would’ve gone that way
You could technically do the run on a save without any dreamers killed
But that would also mean no wings since they trigger the infection, and that may be a run killer
