I played in my club senior championship this weekend. On Saturday I hit several fat shots that caused me to be 6 strokes behind the leader. After the round , I reviewed this video and hit the range working on weight forward and wrist angles. Sunday I shot a net 69 and won my flight. Plus I aced a par 3. Thanks for all the help.
hello Thank you very much and blessings, I am a 14 handicap and this always happens to me two or three times in my round. Thanks to your video, I found out which of the three points that you explain in your tips had me ruining the game. After so many years, I finally get something that works for me, I wish you much success, thank you, thank you, Pedro, Caracas, Venezuela
Thanks for this help. I found keeping the right shoulder level as a swing thought pre and post impact really helped shallow the swing and stopped me hitting behind the ball.
My brain only just clicked on (and I now get the feel of) the 'bent right wrist angle' feel that is the third part of this video. Wow !! What a difference in keeping my left wrist flat and ergo my clubface square. Thanks Eric !!
Ok this is the 2nd day in a row of Eric putting out a video describing my issue. The tips on moving forward causing shanks was spot on. I eliminated shanks completely but was smashing the ground about an inch or two behind the ball quite often. Tomorrow I can use these tips and see how well I swing. I also had lost the mindset of keeping my wrist flat the first 20 minutes at the range today....so I ordered the Hanger and we'll see how that goes. First time I've ordered a training aid, but all on Eric recommendation.

Was having a problem with fat shots, the other day at the range I started feeling like my right shoulder felt really high/forward. Problem solved. Almost exactly what you were teaching here. 👍
Had my career best round by getting my weight forward and eliminating fat shots. Unfortunately the next round I fell back into hitting fat again. Working the shoulder turn and wrist angles. Thanks for the help
Guys, this works. Omg. Although, a disclaimer, for right handers, get to the far right side of the driving range or one of the 3 balls might hit some one like I did. Lol. No worries, once u hit them balls once, your mind and body will try better to not hit them. I measured a wall of tees after hitting the guy and keep with the drill. Then boom, my divots moved passed the ball. It really showed me that my main issue weight transfer. I am going to work at this for the next 3 days. Thanks Eric.
I like to close my right shoulder as you showed in another video Eric, because this helps me keep my right elbow in & prevent me from leading with my right shoulder out. This has helped me hit the ball first the majority of the time.
I like it! As with all these videos not everyone will need the same things....getting the shoulder forward to prevent the fats its important not to go OUT with it....forward and UNDER to get low point forward and keep path from inside
I opening video. Love the visual station. Will save this and watch before going out to his balls. Thanks again for your valuable swing training videos.
This is a great drill. One thing I'd add for some others that I saw myself run into is that when you are moving that weight forward on the downswing you want your lower body to be moving forward (hips) and your head should stay in the same area. If you look at all the players in those videos they have a nice tilt in their downswing where the hips are forward and the shoulders and head are more back.,
Amazing coincidence- I have been working on this the last day and this morning and here is everything I have been thinking about. Eric, is it fair to say- you have to delay the hit. To delay means holding the clubhead off the ground which means holding onto the L (right wrist and shaft) which means the only way to get the clubhead on the ground is to drop the right shoulder- through rotation on the spine angle- as the club shaft is "shorter". If you don't move forward and drop the shoulder you have to release the L to get the club head on the ground. Dropping the shoulder means you can delay the hit.
Looking forward to using these tips. My #1 issue is chunky/fat shots. They come off the club nice and straight but die out 20-25 yards short..hopefully I’ll be able to use my 9 iron on 130+ yards and not my 7; it’s quite demeaning sometimes.
The weight shift forward best to start with the legs and hips to prevent lunging at the ball from the top. Got to do the work with the lower body upper body will follow.
Eric, I'm working with Denis Sales to get my weight forward (among other things) to fix my chunking. The one thing that seems to help is to focus on creating shaft lean at impact. Is that basically what you are saying in this video when you talk about the wrist angles?
Yes! The weight forward will help move low point forward regardless of wrist angles BUT when you combine it with wrist angles thats even better. Really we want to add as many ingredients as we can to move low point forward to increase our odds of success.. That "wall" behind the ball would be a good one for you!
@@CogornoGolf I'll try the "wall behind the ball" thing but I'm afraid that will cancel out my attempts to shallow out the club. I am more eager to try consciously rotating my right shoulder down and then forward. I can see how that would make a big difference. Love my monthly lessons. Thanks
Eric, if your getting your weight forward and keeping the wrist angles and pushing shots is it as simple as adding more forearm rotation to get the ball back online?

We are on our 4th instructor and he has him leaning his upper torso back at address. Now we are back to square one hitting in back of the ball 2-3 inches. Is there a trick to leaning torso back and still being able to hit the ball first cleanly?
Hey Alex 1. Make sure your club face is closed enough 2. Make sure your shaft is shallow enough 1+2 will motivate your brain to rotate Then something like this th-cam.com/video/ZdsdYwXa-M4/w-d-xo.html

Yeah thats the thing with this drill.....technically speaking you would be OK to hit the balls on way back... Either 1. Hinge wrists sooner in takeaway to miss on both sides 2. Start with club a foot behind ball hover over balls and swing from there (more difficult to do)
I shot 73 and found I’m too steep on downswing causing fat shots. I think I have to place ball back slightly toward back foot. Your video has too steep of approach to ball for me.
Haha I hear ya....wont be too easy. Will have some good and bad like anything else. If you struggle with fat shots I would plan to work on this for a full 12 months
My first reaction watching that slow-mo ball strike makes me believe that nothing you do after Impact matters.. Only your approach to the ball matters. I shot 73 and found I’m too steep on downswing causing fat shots. I think I have to place ball back slightly toward back foot. Your video has too steep of approach to ball for me.
Hey Jack! No worries----this isn't for everyone...would be easy to see what you need to do to correct if we could see your swing on video!
Eric must get sooooo bored with hitting such perfect strikes everytime LOL
Easier game on the range :) Gotta get my butt down to the short game area and on the course!
I love how most of the people in the background have shocking golf swings - the local dudes need help
seems too easy , one of the most frustrating problems with the amateur golfer , that includes me .
Haha I hear ya....wont be too easy. Will have some good and bad like anything else. If you struggle with fat shots I would plan to work on this for a full 12 months
The Wrist Back., And Up is The Key!!!!
Unbelievable
Yessir!
Where are you?
Boca Raton, FL for the winter☀️
Why not use a folded towel rather than gold balls that’ll go everywhere.
That works great!
You could Substitute an Empty Ball Sleeve also.
My first reaction watching that slow-mo ball strike makes me believe that nothing you do after Impact matters.. Only your approach to the ball matters. That ball was a good 6 inches in front of the clubface before the club even started taking a divot. Why don't more teaching Pro's focus 90% on club path and approach to the ball!
Hey Chris! Yeah I hear ya.....sometimes by focusing on the follow through you CAN change pieces that happen earlier on as well. Goes both ways
Always liked Eric. Of coarse in a very non sexual way.
Thanks :)
Looking forward to using these tips. My #1 issue is chunky/fat shots. They come off the club nice and straight but die out 20-25 yards short..hopefully I’ll be able to use my 9 iron on 130+ yards and not my 7; it’s quite demeaning sometimes.
Hope this one serves you well, Bryce!
