    I put a cleansing oil on dry skin, and rub for a few minutes before washing my face. You’ve mentioned how the oil can “slip” between layers of dead cells and help them come off. It’s worked so well!

      Oil cleansing is amazing for skin gritting. I massage a cleaning balm for up to a minute, and it’s made a difference in my skin feeling smooth because I’m able to dislodge white/blakcheads.

    I am 60 years old and only today learned what a hangnail is. I always thought it was part of the actual mail rather than the skin around the nail. I have been picking at the skin around my thumbnail FOREVER, making my hangnails constantly worse. 🤦‍♂️ I finally know how to heal and help prevent these (tho stopping a 60 year habit is daunting).

    Don’t use harsh cleaners like Barkeeper’s Friend without gloves. I was cleaning out a vase and swishing around the water and cleanser mixture with my hand. I took care to rinse well but 2 or three days later I had the most painful ingrown nail sensation. Since it was only on the one hand I used I realized later what I had done. The crevice where the nail meets the skin does not rinse easily. The oxalic acid in the product is very effective at cleaning things like hard water spots and stainless steel but even a little bit left on the skin is not something you want. I would put this in almost the same category as oven cleaner. Use gloves.

    My skin is dry and dehydrated and use Cetaphil gentle cleanser. From the retinoid and glycolic acid I use, my skin started flaking and peeling. And I did find the flakes got worse with scrubbing my face. So now to minimize the flakes, I use jojoba oil first and then cleanse. It made a world of difference. I've learned that jojoba mimics sebum.

I am doing everything you have taught us in your Accutane related videos. You talked about salicylic acid face wash irritating the eyelids, and that has been happening to me. Thank you for mentioning that. I have seborrheic dermatitis, and I thought I needed to put various treatments around my eyes too. It wasn’t going well… The derm that diagnosed seborrheic dermatitis in my ears, didn’t tell me anything about what to do for face or scalp. I was too overwhelmed with just the info about my ears, I didn’t think to ask. There’s no follow-up as the derm practice is so busy, so I’m trying to price things together. Thank you!

      I think some of the productivity gurus say that a good way to build habits is to associate it with something else you already do (eg do your skincare right before brushing your teeth), some people also do their night routine a little earlier, you don’t have to it 5min before bed, for most things it’s still effective if you do it before dinner. Hope that helps with some ideas! :)

    Hi, Dr. Dray, I don't know if you covered this before, but I recently tried Aveeno's fragrance free body wash and I was getting flare ups with my eczema and possibly fragrance allergies! 😮 I found out they reformulated the original formula, and the new formula contains fragrances, despite still being marketed as "fragrance free". (The fragrances used are pelargonium gravelens flower oil and commiphora myrrha oil, both of which are essential oils used as fragrance).
    Could you possibly go over how companies are allowed to do this? I feel like it's extremely unethical, but apparently I found out they can be marketed as "fragrance free" if they use the fragrance in a non fragrance manner (ex: claim the essential oil ingredient in the product is for a different purpose besides smell)

      @db-gb5xi 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Cosmetic chemists have said that companies reformulate all the time and don't necessarily have to say they have. Also, even so-called fragrance free products will sometimes contain things that are used as masking scents but not listed as fragrance. So if you're using fragrance free or unscented, you'll have to get into reading the ingredient list and doing some investigating because it's left up the company to decide how they label things.

    • @christopherfeatherley
      @christopherfeatherley 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@db-gb5xi yes, I'm aware of masking fragrance, but thank you for the info! The body wash does not mention being scented or containing masking fragrance 😦 just that it is "fragrance free", which is a terrible lie. I will definitely start reading the ingredient list now
      I did not know they did not have to announce if they reformulate 😢 that's a bit sad if you're like me with severe eczema and it's difficult to find something that doesn't irk my eczema. Thank you for your comment. I learned a lot

      First would be do not cut your cuticles, or any skin around your nails. LEAVE IT. wash your hands and feet thoroughly with soap and water. make sure you’re gentle getting all debris out from underneath your nails as well. It can cause bacteria to grow, detach your nails, and let more bacteria in. Don’t pick, pull, bite or cut any hangnails. Leave them be, Vaseline with bandaids on.

    A surgery I had on my stomach a decade ago left a thick keloid scar that disfigured my belly button, & now if I try to wash in the fold there it never seems to dry efficiently enough after (I even tried using a blow-dryer on low heat). As a result I've ended up with multiple yeast infections there, & I was advised to just leave the area alone. But I recently heard that cleansing a belly button with fractionated coconut oil also works. Is that true? And would it be safer for a spot that's prone to candida overgrowth compared to soap & water?

    • @tiahnarodriguez3809
      @tiahnarodriguez3809 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I’m curious what Dr.Dray will say because when I was a caregiver, we had to clean certain areas a specific way, and putting oil or lotion in a spot was a huge no-no because it can cause build-up and make problems like infection in the crevice/fold worse. We used a specific cleansing solution or alcohol on the crevices/folds if needed. Both dried instantly.

    • @21972012145525
      @21972012145525 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I deal with this too. I find leaving it alone if it's not acting up does help. Also drying with a qtip gently feels weird but it helps dry it. If I do cleanse I use cleanser or dove fragrance free soap and water
      When it gets bad/smelly, I have a powder that contains antifungal ingredients and that seems to help

It's hard to remember to do if you're busy and running around and especially hard if you wear makeup. I believe though, in a few studies, you still have a pretty sufficient amount of spf on by the end of the day. It wears off but not as bad as some people make it out to be.
