You have no or don't in your list except the last.. it looks like you are saying to tan instead of not tanning. I mean, obviously we know, but someone who doesn't watch might think otherwise
Sunscreen and subscribed!!! 44 year old male here. I deliver mail for a living and my skin has started showing the damage. Ive been taking action. I've been binge watching your videos. I've always thought I was on top of the battle but you are really making me aware of lots more I can do! Thanks for the education!
On the topic of smoking and how it ruins your skin I would absolutely love to see you make a video on how other “alternative” drugs affect your skin. For example, marijuana and psychedelics.
To all the people that have trouble with picking, try to avoid looking in the mirror, wash your face with the lights off, place a band aid on top of a problematic pimple when you're at home (to avoid looking at it), and keep your hands busy (exercise, knit, play an instrument, play with your pets). Meditating can be helpful if you pick due to anxiety.
Yes! Also plain hydrocolloid pimple patches to act as a “bandaid” and to helpfully/ non-harmfully extract some of the contents of the blemishes! I also agree with not looking in the mirror as well! Or even just limiting the up-close mirror to solely when needed in applying makeup
Thanks - I’m 48 for heaven’s sake, and STILL find any little bump impossible to ignore! To younger viewers: I am currently spending thousands of dollars having regular Fraxel in order to try and deal with the pitted skin I was left with due to SQUEEZING and PICKING every little blemish I could find (since the age of 14)... Thank goodness I’ve always looked after my skin and used SPF, or who knows WHAT I’d look like now!
I don’t leave comments on TH-cam ever but I really need to thank you Dr Dray - your channel has changed my skin and my self confidence ❤️ after so many years of treating acne, over exfoliating, spending money on gimmick ingredients and falling for skincare myths of avoiding dimethicone and petrolatum my skin was dehydrated super oily and always looking very red. Just following 2 weeks of your videos and changing my skincare routine to focus on repairing my skin barrier I’m already seeing a massive difference and my skin is happy!!! You have also motivated me to wear sunscreen and reapplying during the day even when I’m indoor, something that I would have never imagined myself doing :) so glad that TH-cam recommended one of your videos and led me here 🥳
My skin improved greatly when I eliminated harsh acne cleansers, astringents with alcohol and pore clogging lotions and makeup. Then I added BHA, Retin A and many of the products Dr. Dray recommends. The result is nothing to pick and no post inflammation hyperpigmentation!
So..... I watch you everyday. Practically all day. Even when I’m cooking, or cleaning, I have your videos playing in the background. I have probably heard everything you have to say, and several of your videos I have re-watched several times. You might be the most informational, knowledgeable, helpful TH-camr I have ever watched. And I take your advice to heart. I used to be one of those “hippies“ that only used “natural“ or “chemical free“ products. Made my own for years. My skin was always mad. And you have taught me why! You have literally transformed my skin in the past couple years… and I am grateful. But....... I like to smell good. I like to smell pretty. Whatever that means lol. I don’t use fragrance in any of my facial products anymore. And I try to be careful with the body lotions I put on my body, but I do admit, some of them contain fragrance. I just like to smell good! You must have suggestions, I saw a video the other day where you were talking about perfume oil roll-on’s, applying them to your wrist. Can you pretty pretty pretty please make a video about what kind of fragrances we can use? Whether that is shampoo and conditioner, perfume oil, or scented baby powder. I don’t care I just need to know what you suggest, if we can use anything at all, or if we should avoid everything. I was under the impression that you suggested we avoid everything, until I saw you in Whole Foods talking about those perfume roll ones . Please elaborate more on that! I think it’s safe to say that I am not the only one who would benefit from this type of video… I know a lot of people are struggling with this. Thank you Dr!!
Dr Dray, you changed my life today! Literally, I’m not kidding. I’ve been having a terrible itchy bumps on my head for almost 20 years. All this time I‘ve been trying to find the reason. Doctors in Russia, in Israel, in Germany - all were saying „It is just in your head“ or „I don’t see anything at all“. Only one doctor have found „folliculitis“ and prescribed a steroid ointment. This worked, but temporary. And today I heard from you this word „prurigo“. Yeah, it worths mentioning, I’m a MD myself, but not so derm-educated, you know. I found some information, and now I’m sitting with Fenistil tab in my tummy and I’m so grateful. Thank you!
Now that all of this info is coming out about how bad tanning is, I’m so so so glad I stuck to no tanning. I was born in ‘87, so when I was a teen it was super popular to tan. I have very pale skin and didn’t want to turn orange, so I never went. I can’t tell you the number of times someone said “omg, you’re so pale why don’t you go tanning?” I remember girls in my high school tanning themselves orangey in a tanning bed (spray tans weren’t really a thing yet) and I’d be thinking “why?”
I still think it's weird when people with fair skin tan especially when the tan is super dark to the point it's of another race. I'm like 🤷🏽♀️ Just embrace your fair skin, it's not pale just fair
Gosh it's opposite in my country... Everyone wants to be white.... And I mean pale. The whiter your skin is ,the prettier you are considered. I have great respect for people who don't give in to trends.
I was born in ‘89 and I can relate so much... I remember many of my teen friends going tanning and telling me to go because it would be good for my acne and make my skin more resistant to sunburn... So glad I never believed them, I’m much happier accepting and taking care of my pale skin
@@YaYa-jy1yv If it was natural, it is really pretty! Tbh people's natural skin is very pretty pero if it was out of a bottle and 50 shades too dark that's hella weird and blackfishing
"#1 avoid drinking in the sun" drinking and sunbathing were my favorite activity in my 20's .... let's hope my diet, exercise, and responsible skin habits in my 30's overall saves my skin 🙏
If you purchased St. Ive’s Apricot Scrub and don’t want to throw it away, just use it on your feet or resilient areas of your body instead of your face - that way it doesn’t go to waste
I heard someone say that the Kylie Jenner walnut scrub is good for getting the grout out in the bathroom... maybe you could use the St. Ives apricot scrub for that as well.
I HAVE to comment about the smoking bit! My husband and I just quit smoking and I have to say that before quitting, I was SOOO insecure about my skin. I just turned 30 this year and looked ROUGH- like, ruff rough lol 2 packs a day will do that to you though. But my god!! After quitting, I've noticed incredible changes in my skin. My pores are shrinking, my skin retains its moisture, my forehead wrinkles aren't as noticeable- it's crazy!!!! As much as I LOVE smoking, you couldn't pay me to go back. For anyone out there struggling with smoking, just find what works best for you and in time, kick the habit! I promise it's possible!
Dr. Dray, I am so so so happy to finally hear a skincare specialist talk about skin picking disorder and recognizing that it's not that easy to stop picking. I loved the video you made on it. Currently looking for specialists for this disorder but it's not very known in the psychologist community.
It is good sleep noise right? There's certain things that put me to sleep and Dr Dray is definatley one (not saying she's boring at all just relaxing and comfortable)
I was super nervous to see what I was doing wrong 🥴Thanks to you I stopped picking at my pimples and blackheads about a year ago! My skin has never looked better!
I love your channel. I am Indian and most of your recommendations aren't available here but still I love watching you and love getting knowledge from you❤
@@AC-xb2nq Only a kid can think so. Wenn you are 40 you realize the life has just begun and you do everything to stay healthy as long as possible. Sometimes it’s too late : damages done.

I’ve had so many of these bad habits in the past just like everyone else who’s commenting here. Nothing I can do now except be better and teach my daughter to be better. I’m glad you’re spreading awareness of the damage the sun exposure does to skin. I’ve taken care of patients with metastatic melanoma and it’s awful. One person started with just a small spot on the ankle, a spot easily missed with sunscreen!
This might sound weird but to stop my self from picking i put a small amount of organic raw honey on my pimples So whenever i subconsciously try to pick at it the honey stops me 'cause it's sticky Plus i heard it's good for hyperpigmentation and scarring But i only do this when I'm home I don't pick at my face outside in front of others so ... This is what i do, maybe it could help someone
0:17 1. Don’t drink alcohol in the sun 3:44 2. Do not smoke 7:27 3. Don’t Pick your skin 10:43 4. Never extract or squeez anything on your skin 14:02 5. Tanning your skin (it is a skin injury tan=sunburn)
I don’t do any of these except picking. I’m SOOO bad at picking 😩 if there is a white head to pop, dry skin to peel up, or just a tiny bump under the skin that I could probably squeeze/pick I go at it pretty much every morning! Plus after you do squeeze a pimple there is almost always a dry patch of skin over it for a few days. I ALWAYS pick that dry patch to peel it up. Ahhhhh I need help
I feel your pain. I have been a picker for all my life. I love how she says it gives you nothing more than satisfying an urge as if that’s a minor thing. That urge is almost impossible to ignore. It took me about 40 years just to stop biting my nails. I’m working on the “leave it alone” theory of skin care but it ain’t easy.
Amie Kay I can relate 100% I love skincare And I’m kinda obsessed with taking care of my skin but it’s just really hard to stop picking I’ve noticed that not going close up to the mirror helps a little bit lol
little lentil Yes! I use these and they help sooo much. When I have the urge to pick I feel the patch and just poke gently at it until the urge goes away. And the zits seem to heal a lot faster too!
One girl said to me that somebody advised her once to mix lemon juice and olive oil and to rub it into skin while laying out in the sun. She had severe burns.
Dr. Dray, seeing your nails in this video reminded me of a topic I'd love to hear your thoughts on, specially, manicures. There are so many options: regular nail polish, gel polish, shellac, powders, acrylic, press-on nails applied with the included "tape" or the included glue... There are a lot of options! I'm wondering how I might have a manicure while minimizing damage to my natural nails. I also recently heard of a product called Dazzle Dry which I'd like to try, for the reason I mentioned. Bottom line, I'd love to hear your thoughts on manicures & nail health. Thanks for your videos! I've learned a lot from them. 😊
never use acrylic or shellac or gel but mavala’s many treatments are good for general nail health. press on nails are okay but it’s going to weaken the nail because of the glue and constant pressure. if you catch your nail on something not only is it going to have pressure from the force it’s also going to have pressure and stress from the press on nail lifting up from the nail. always use a crystal nail file (glass are no good) and don’t clip the nail right down to the bottom of the nail where it meets yourself finger because it causes stress and can cause ingrown nails especially on toenails.
I’m proud to say that I’ve almost controlled my picking habit after years of obsession (that was passed down to me from my mom, who sadly believed that it would help with acne). I recently finished accutane and I am so happy with my results! Stopping picking has made a HUGE difference 😍✨
I do too, it’s nearly impossible for me to stop..😥But one thing that helped me tremendously was getting rid of all magnify mirrors! I highly suggest this for anyone who has dermatillomania
I came here from a pretty hateful video about your content and I must say, I really like your style, the effort you out into these videos and the depth of information. Hope you don't let yourself be dragged down by negative people. In my opinion, mental health is a huge pillar of skin care too. And that doesn't mean that everything has to be and look fine. Especially not w.r.t. other people's standards of that term. ❤️👍🏻
I'm 60 and fair skinned. When I was a teenager my friends would slather on baby oil and lay in the sun. This was not fun to me. I had my share of sunburns and I have some sun damage but it was not because I laid in the sun on purpose. I don't smoke. I have fairly good skin but mild roescea, some hyperpigmentation. But I look younger then 60 so I'm happy 🙂
Same here. One of my older sisters was a baby oil/sun addict from her early teens right through her 30's. She now looks like a wrinkled piece of leather. :-( No thanks! I burn easily too and go through tons of sunscreen! :)
I struggle with picking, extracting/squeezing. The more stressed I am, the more I do these things. I do use those little acne dot patches and they help a bit. Thank you for suggesting those in one of your other videos!
🤣🤣 I live in northern Ireland we good here sun only comes out 2 weeks of the year handy as we tend to drink large amounts of alcohol for many occasions lol
When I was younger like 13-16 I always contemplated going to tanning beds. I really wanted to try getting some kind of tan since I really can’t (redhead) and I thought if I went to a tanning bed daily I could achieve a tan 😬 I am SOOO glad I never went through with that cause I was so incredibly close to trying it
I did it once in my early 20's and my skin was itching like crazy for 3+ days! I never went back. However, an acquaintance who went several times per week ended up with ringworm on the back of her shoulder which took months to get rid of. Yuck!
Wonderful! I have rosacea, dehydrated skin, extremely pale skin, live in a sunny/dry weather, used to smoke, drink when in the beach, pick a lot (oops) and have some of this cysts with blackheads... I need an urgent visit to a dermatologist!!! The good thing I have added this year that I moved to this location is 1) lotion in my hold body since I feel it soooo dry (which I used to hate) 2) more water 3) daily sunscreen with a higher spf. Thanks!
Hi Dr. Dray - hope you are having a good evening! May you please do video or dedicate a segment of a video on the impact of cannabis (especially smoking cannabis) on skin health? Would also love to see your take on the impact of topical CBD and THC ointments on the skin as well, it it relates to anti aging, anti inflammatory, and pain management. Thank you for all that you do!
She wore nail polish on her toenails one time. I think she looks very elegant and cute when she wears nail polish, along with her other adorable accessories.
Dr thank you for your priceless advice. I would kindly request you to make a video on pigmentation after pregnancy. I believe a lot of people will benefit from your learned insight and in-depth knowledge on this topic
dr. dray, have you heard of any studies regarding the effects of vaping on skin? i feel like cigarettes have mostly died out with the younger generation, but like, half the people i know that are college-aged and even younger, have picked up vaping instead.
I had a really bad reaction to lime juice from my drink on my skin in Mexico. I ended up with horrible welts that have left ugly red marks on my thighs, so be careful with lemons and limes in the sun!
Can you PLEASE do a video about the alleged harms of sunscreen? I ALWAYS use sunscreen and when I try to urge my friends to use it, they argue that the Ingredients in sunscreen cause cancer and are more harmful than the damage caused by the sun. I’d love to see a scientifically supported video talking about this issue. What is the cost/risk ratio of sunscreen use? Is there any real science behind sunscreen being more harmful for the body than it is good for the skin?
Whenever I tell people tips about skincare I was told by my dermatologist, they always ask who I see. I tell them the one and only Dr. Dray🙌🏼 Every video is like an office visit for me😂Love you Dr. and thanks for all you do!!!
until about a year and a half ago, I used to smoke, drink in full sunlight, sometimes without sunscreen.. After learning about healthy habits from Dr Dray, I have completely quit smoking, rarely drink, and I apply sunscreen vigorously and stay away from uv exposure !!
Thank you for the little lecture about vitamin D! My deficiency was quite severe that it even led to bone-pain. The sun isn’t very potent where I live so I assume that those few minutes might not be enough. I have to supplement, but knowing that it wasn’t necessarily due to my use of sunscreen is great to know 👍🏻
I've actually been wondering about "the other things" I have recently quit cigarettes and noticed a difference in my skin in about 1 week. I have no desire to quit the other stuff, but I have noticed I have less desire to do it. I would assume vaping or edibles are much safer options and they usually are considered better on the lungs due to the reduced or lack of tar.
Ikr. My dentist recently extracted my wisdom tooth and told me to not to drink or smoke and I was like "don't smoke what?" The look she gave me was hilarious
Yep. Exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke can accelerate skin aging - there’s actually research on this! Secondhand exposure isn’t quite as bad as actually smoking tobacco products yourself, but the risks are still pretty high.
Glad that I only love fruit juice , I'm 40 and usually embarrassed 😋 to order fresh squeeze or blended fruit juice while my friends order alcoholoc beverages because I have heart desease so I never smoke. I take warfarin so I cant prick any pimples or I will bleed and also I am taking anti migraine , anti allergy thats why I am not allowed to be under direct sunlight. Wow for the 1st time , my risky desease gave me a good positive benefit ...wow...
If you have a skin picking disorder get some pimple patches. You might still reach up to pull at your skin but I find myself just running my finger over the patch instead and not causing injury or introducing bacteria to the area. The second you see a spot just cover it up, don't wait. If you pull your finger skin put on some hand cream, the rubbing is a kind, self soothing action and the skin isn't as easy to pick at if it isn't dry. I know how compulsive it is but there is help out there and you can learn other ways to self regulate 💖
Do you wash your hands after putting sunscreen on? Wouldn't the sunscreen on the back of the hands and fingers be washed away? Do we need sunscreen for the palm of hands?
I put suncreen my face & body, wash my hands, then put a blob of suncreen on the back of one hand, then rub the backs of my hands together, while rubbing excess into my wrists without touching the inside of my hands at all. I've never gotten a palm burn but if I don't make sure my palms are free of sunblock, I will at some point touch my eye & get that burning sunblock-in-eye feeling. *Maybe her vid on frequent hand-washing will help you? I can't remember it perfectly but her content is always helpful.
I always put sunscreen on the back of my hands, even backs off my fingers. That's how you can tell people's actual age. I wish I knew app of this when I was a teenager. So much damage done then. After going to Thailand for 3 weeks and not reapplying because I didn't know back then, my friend noticed my skin had so many sunspots now. Wearing my mask has been great as it's been really great for sun protection along with my sunscreen!
@@conversationswithkat5710 Yay, I'm not the only one either! I also got gloves for fall or when I forget to sunblock my hands. Honestly, investing in nice pleather driving gloves has already paid for itself.
I'm really trying to stop numbers 3 and 4. I get into these weird picking modes these days due to stress, and just sit there and squeeze/extract crap out of my pores. Mainly on my shoulders/arms, did a real number on my face recently that left me with a lot of hyper pigmentation. Just started 10mg/day accutane a few days ago, so hopefully that'll help turn things around. I'm 100% sure that my acne is hormonal, caused by stress. The stress makes me mess with it, just a vicious cycle.
Hi Dr. Dray...I hope you are doing well. Always thinking about your mom and Tybee..I hope they are both well also...I am so blessed by God that I did not have the desire to do any of these no no's..Love your nail polish...it looks great on you!!!!
My mom took me to a tanning bed when I was like 13 or 14 and after a couple visits I got a really bad allergic reaction. I was so itchy for days, although there was no visible issue. I went again when I was 16 or 17 and the tanning bed had "different bulbs that were safer" and had the same reaction. I have Irish white skin and my mom (and American culture in general) were so obsessed with tanning. I'm so glad I realized when I was around 22 that it is stupid. My mom has now been to the dermatologist multiple times a year for the past few years getting melanoma chemically burned off her skin. I hope I'm not in the same boat. I got a lot of bad sunburns when I was a kid but have gotten better about sunscreen through the years and after watching your videos, I am now obsessed with sun production.
The one thing I can’t stop doing is PICKING.... 🙁.... but, thanks a ton for your videos! They help a lot!! Dr. Dray, what’s your opinion on the brand MEDICUBE?
I love watching you. I do not agree with sunless tanning products especially on the face I also would not want dihydroxyacetone in my blood stream. I see TO many issues with sunless tanners on the skin, milia, cystic acne and fungal outbreaks. I wish you would have talked about all of the crazy things we see on these channels that people should not be doing at home. I get messages every week from people saying they destroyed their skin from derma rolling at home for example. Have a beautiful day Dr D, all said with absolute respect and just another perspective 🙌🏻🍑Lisa Peaches Skin Care

Wish you'd do a video on caring for your skin after receiving radiation. My dad is two years out from radiation on his face, and is still dealing with incredible dryness, and super sensitivity. He uses the Cicplast balm on his face most nights and still has flaking.
If he hasn't already tried, the cerave healing ointment is wonderful for very dry flaky skin. It's even great using over top of the cicaplast balm. I hope he finds something that gives his skin some relief.
One other problem with smoking is the nonstop puckering to draw the smoke. I smoked for 10 years. It’s been a long time since I quit but I have lines around my mouth from repetitive puckering. I also recently did a treatment for precancerous skin cells and there were significantly more above my mouth. Don’t smoke!
11:07 omg! I actually use those for my blackheads not in my pimples though, I use it in my blackheads in my nose to remove the clogged pores in my nose, they're really disgusting, should I stop using it for my nose? I think it's the only way I can remove my clogged pores, any tips dr. Dray? xx
Not expecting perfect skin but maybe awesome. Your advice of moisturizing and sunscreen then I switched to water instead of coffee and soda. Now with these never do this to skin regiment thank you ❤
The three things I always notice on people with sagging, leathery skin: They are social drinkers...or more They did at least a moderate amount of tanning when young They either do smoke or once smoked. (sometimes this third factor is not present)
I went to my dermatologist today. He said oil cleansing/double cleansing is horrible for the skin especially if we have sensitive skin. the oil cleansing has been awful for my skin.
Thank you for pointing out that smoking 420 can be more harmful in the sense of tar exposure since cigarettes generally have a filter while weed does not. I feel like a lot of people are ignorant about smoking marijuana when we really don’t know what damage it could be causing.
Just want to say thanks Dr Dray for getting out of a horrible cycle I was in. After a divorce I ended up w some hormonal acne, then very dry skin. Using cerave already I thought I knew so much.

Lindsey Stein I don’t find tanned skin attractive anymore.
I was born in ‘89 and I can relate so much... I remember many of my teen friends going tanning and telling me to go because it would be good for my acne and make my skin more resistant to sunburn... So glad I never believed them, I’m much happier accepting and taking care of my pale skin

Number 6. DON'T use ST. IVES APRICOT SCRUB!!
If you purchased St. Ive’s Apricot Scrub and don’t want to throw it away, just use it on your feet or resilient areas of your body instead of your face - that way it doesn’t go to waste

This might sound weird but to stop my self from picking i put a small amount of organic raw honey on my pimples
So whenever i subconsciously try to pick at it the honey stops me 'cause it's sticky
Plus i heard it's good for hyperpigmentation and scarring
But i only do this when I'm home
I don't pick at my face outside in front of others so ...

Amie Kay pimple patches work. I keep my tweezers in my car now.

Shes talked about this in some videos. She doesnt recommend anything.
Check out simplynailogical on TH-cam
I would also like a video on manicures and nail health.
never use acrylic or shellac or gel but mavala’s many treatments are good for general nail health. press on nails are okay but it’s going to weaken the nail because of the glue and constant pressure. if you catch your nail on something not only is it going to have pressure from the force it’s also going to have pressure and stress from the press on nail lifting up from the nail. always use a crystal nail file (glass are no good) and don’t clip the nail right down to the bottom of the nail where it meets yourself finger because it causes stress and can cause ingrown nails especially on toenails.
Love Dazzle Dry. My nails are healthy.
I’m proud to say that I’ve almost controlled my picking habit after years of obsession (that was passed down to me from my mom, who sadly believed that it would help with acne). I recently finished accutane and I am so happy with my results! Stopping picking has made a HUGE difference 😍✨

I'm 60 and fair skinned. When I was a teenager my friends would slather on baby oil and lay in the sun. This was not fun to me. Yes
Yep. Exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke can accelerate skin aging - there’s actually research on this! Secondhand exposure isn’t quite as bad as actually smoking tobacco products yourself, but the risks are still pretty high.
I’m sure you could. Maybe not immediately noticeable but over extended periods of time I’d imagine it would leave it effects.
Plsss help, is incense bad for skin and lungs? Is it bad over time???
I've heard the opposite, that secondhand smoke can be worse because your body isn't used to it like someone who actually smokes and regularly at that.

Thank you! You too!

I would like more detail on this point of how exactly to manage frequent washing and sunscreen practices

I'm really trying to stop numbers 3 and 4. I get into these weird picking modes these days due to stress, and just sit there and squeeze/extract crap out of my pores. Mainly on my shoulders/arms, did a real number on my face recently that left me with a lot of hyper pigmentation. I went again when I was 16 or 17 and the tanning bed had "different bulbs that were safer" and had the same reaction.
