  • It's finally here. If you're wondering why it's not on push-start it's because they already have a review and I don't want mine to conflict with theirs. I'll try and upload a new review there sometime this or next week so check this spot often for a link.
    Pros: -The dungeons and the bosses are wonderful (with a few minor annoyances). -The motion controls work very well. -Beacons are very useful in finding specific areas. -A large cast of characters. -You have a third option instead of just saying yes all the time.
    Cons: -The exploration is very linear. -Most of the new items are only used for solving problems and serve no function in nearly every battle. -Flying around in the sky is boring as there is not much to do up there and it can be pretty slow at times. -The shop to enhance your items and weapons feels like untapped potential. -Your partner has no personality and will explain things to you after you've already learned them throughout the entire game. -Watch out for that game breaking glitch near the end of the game.

    I would argue that Skyward sword is a diamond in rough. Sure it has fustrations and allot of players didn't like the motion control and it reused eldin mountain too many times and the sky was empty. but i found it enjoyable. The art style of the characters was lovable, especially the girls. and the side quests to help people are in my opinion something that they should keep doing in next zelda. Next zelda should be just one big world. kinda like wind waker but on land with extra secrets.

    I have two things, During the 2010 E3, Miyamoto stated "The over world is more like a dungeon" that explains the way the over world has more puzzles than previous ones. And how could you think that the music was not memorable? With tunes like Ballad of the Goddess, Groose's theme, Ghirahim's theme, Fi's Theme, etc. Also The final boss in Skyward Sword is anything but lackluster, infact it is my favorite boos fight of all time.

    i think you were a bit harsh on the exploration thing. you shouldn't scald it like you did because it comes down to preference of the player. we've seen exploration as the main element for every zelda game until this one. it's nice to see a change to the formula for once. It's less about the exploration and more about the puzzle solving and combat in this game.

    • @kaidos123
      @kaidos123 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i think you're completely wrong about that. I thought the puzzle solving was both challenging and unique from the previous games, and the combat required a different approach to attacking each enemy to a larger scale than the older games.
      if you're talking about the controls, i had no issues. it was hard to get used to at first, yeah. but after a while, everything felt rather natural. if you can't get the controls right, you're probably just bad and need more experience. that's what gaming is about, challenging yourself. anyone can just pick up an average control and press some buttons and instantly know how to play and be good at a zelda game.
      people shouldn't be afraid to try something new. i was a bit worried for this game at first, but i played it through to the end and i don't regret it. one of my favourite zelda games just for being unique.

    • @cjszero01
      @cjszero01  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kaidos Gaming Just because something is new or different doesn't give it a pass if it isn't executed right. As far as the combat goes I found it lacking in variety. Past Zelda games allowed you to use your other items to create different ways on how you would handle your enemies. EX: Wind Waker let me use boomerrang to stun enemies then I could use the Grabling hook to take away an item while they are still dazed then attack them with the sword before they realized what happened. Skyward Sword lacked a lot when it came to items and combat together.

    • @kaidos123
      @kaidos123 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      i'm not saying it's better than past zelda games. i liked TP as well. i'm just saying that you need to look at it from a different perspective. don't compare it to past zelda games, because it's not a clone of a past zelda game.
      The rest is all opinion. i thought it was creative and new.

  • @oziahwales

    I just don't understand what people have against the Lanayru Mining Facility. It was personally one of my favorite dungeons in the series. The music specifically was a nice touch. It fit perfectly with the dungeon, and sent the atmosphere through the roof. One of my most vivid memories was watching that epic "entering dungeon" cutscene, not knowing what to expect, then having that haunting music start ever so slightly before another cutscene showed the ruins of an ancient factory. The slight sounds and changes with the different times was a perfect fit. But then again, I'm a musician. I may just be able to say and find what I appreciate about it.

      I'm the opposite. I was never annoyed by Navi, at least on my first OOT playthrough. I was able to ignored her on later playthroughs, but it was always the Owl, despite only brief appearances, that I hated in that game. Fi never fails to irritate me.

    I kinda agree with you that Fi was queen obvious most of the time... but I felt so defenseless when *SPOILER ALERT PAST HERE!* Link was captured I actually really needed her help during that but just felt so alone... Also the actual realization that Link of all people had to sneak around to avoid his enemies knowing that if he was caught he would be at their mercy really set in the feeling of "Hey guess what? Your all by yourself, your defenseless, and if you get caught it's all over. Good Luck HERO!"

      But then again Fi and the Master Sword are still different for practical uses and plays no role in how you swing the sword. You may also want to think about Ghirahim, another spirit of a sword, mastered magic and wrecked havoc to the land with the purpose of reuniting with his master, yet Fi, Hylia's creation, has to wait until you pick her up again. Even though the sword is at full power, she can't even provide a mechanic that would add its own spice to this Forsaken Fortress inspired event.

      Arnaldonintendo zelda series has coninually gone downhill (atleast the main ones) since 2000 this one was my final straw it was babies first zelda game it sucks so many boring tedious quests to do the graphics look like a kids play room, the music does not fit the game at all, the combat works only 90% of the time, the characters are beyond stereotypical.

  • @cjszero01
    @cjszero01  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Obviously I agree with the first one. :) The things you can't do are say "Oh this 2010 game has much better graphics than this game that came out in the 90's, and it has online play." All I want to do is smack some sense into their empty heads. You can't compare the limitations of the past with the present, it's unthinkable. That's why I like to review my games based on when they came out and not by the current standards. But you knew that already, I was just explaining it to those who didn't.

  • @cjszero01
    @cjszero01  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Doing them out of 10 seems so pointless to me. For example what would be the difference between a game getting a 3 or a 4 out of 10? You know it's not a good recommendation anyway so let's just get rid of 5 of the numbers. Using a 5 recommendation level seems much cleaner and easier to use. I also said the game could hold it's own weight thanks to the dungeons and boss battles and while I think it's the weakest 3D Zelda game, it's still a pretty good video game in general.

  • @cjszero01
    @cjszero01  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    To each their own, though I don't think you understand why so many people love it. It was the first Zelda game to be in 3D, a very hard thing to do back then. The sword combat wasn't ready to evolve until Wind Waker but even then & for Majora's Mask it still did a lot like triple slashes and a jump attack. The plot was based off of A Link to the Past so it almost seems like your insulting that one as well, just saying. Also for the first 3D dungeons in the series I thought it did a great job.

  • @cjszero01
    @cjszero01  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    In Zelda games a part of the charm is being able to traverse large environments as it helps to capture the feeling that you're on a grand adventure and that you can explore the large area around you in order to find secrets and items. The large scale means you don't have to follow the simple path and can break away to do some adventuring of your own. Narrow paths kind of kill that for me in Zelda. In works in 2D platformers but it doesn't have the same effect for 3D adventure games.

  • @cjszero01
    @cjszero01  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you, let me ease your mind: First the items in Twilight Princess did not need an upgrade from a shop as they could already be used for puzzle solving and combat. Like the ball and chain or attaching the bombs to the arrows. I love going through open fields with epona to discover new areas or just run through them, but if that gets boring I can just warp somewhere else. While the names escape me for the time being TP had some memorable characters like Midna, Zant, the bar lady, and Lilla.

  • @cjszero01
    @cjszero01  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can forgive Hyrule Field in OoT because it was the first time they made an overworld in a 3D Zelda game and they got better from there on. If the overworlds didn't have quick transportation or a way to warp then I understand why others don't like them but they do help make me feel like I'm on in adventure but traversing through large areas. They could've done more with the sky like have more obstacle courses, races, warps, but they really didn't do anything with it.

    The biggest problem I have with the save statue is it doesn't let me restart from the owl save statue. If I'm doing a sidequest like protecting the cows on the ranch or the Sun's mask and I make a mistake I can't go back to the last checkpoint I have to start all over again. I hate that and I hope they fix it if they remake Majora's Mask.

    A Link Between Worlds was confirmed to be a sequel to A Link to the Past. Link is only the same Link in certain games like Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, and Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass. The Link from Skyward Sword and The Minish Cap are not the same.

  • @cjszero01

    To be honest I knew she would leave you when we first saw the teaser poster. It's kind of a Zelda cliche, I also figured she would start to show some emotion right there as well. However when I finally got there the only thing I could think of was "nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, good bye!"

  • @cjszero01
    @cjszero01  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I loved it. The fight starts with you escaping from a sinking ship, you have to fight off the tentacles coming up from the ground, and the boss itself caught me completely off guard. I kept thinking the Robot Pirate would come back but not this, plus the sheer size actually made it intimidating to me.

  • @cjszero01
    @cjszero01  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    From what I've heard: Demise and Hylia were total opposites and so were Fi and Ghirahim. However I don't think the opposite of Ghirahim's personality should be none at all but either timid or shy. At least then Fi could show a lot of character development near the end of the game.

  • @RamblyngRobyn

    I honestly had no clue how you were going to go about reviewing this one.
    You've expressed your distaste towards it before, but only very lightly.

    However, you handled it well! Very nicely done ^^

    @cjszero01  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually I think the real thing was it just left such a horrible first impression on me. After playing through it a second time to record footage for it it didn't bother me as much but stuff like fetch quests and Fi still got in the way.

  • @cjszero01
    @cjszero01  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    True, but you can warp to other places, check out submarines and islands, fight octorocks, go through barrels to earn rupees. I never said I loved the sailing but compared to the flying in Skyward Sword it does seem to offer more to it.

  • @cjszero01
    @cjszero01  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you. :) From what I've noticed in my editing when I recorded from both my Wii and WiiU the WiiU is a bit sharper than the Wii. However you can't tell that in this review as both were up-scaled to 1080 HD.

  • @cjszero01
    @cjszero01  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hard to say really. If anything the WiiU should be around for at least 5-6 more years. The PS3... probably one year after the PS4 comes out and the PS4 won't play PS3 games. I guess which ever has more games you want to play.

  • @cjszero01
    @cjszero01  11 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @cjszero01
    @cjszero01  11 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @cjszero01
    @cjszero01  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah they really focused more on the sword combat rather than other ways to approach your enemy. It's not like the combat is boring but it really lacked a lot of variety.

    i found tentalus awful even if its only for aesthetic reasons and the imprisoned fights are broken, because while they're is a variety of ways to beat it, only one actually works, also they're in the boss rush mode, making that almost unplayable, of course it does add a story element, particularly, but still feels like a shoehorn. i like the review tho.

    I might love this game, but I do agree with many of the problems you point out. While I would argue that all 3D zelda games are fairly linear, this one is really pushing it. What makes me consider it one of my favorites are the dungeons and boss fights, which you thankfully praise. I'm really glad that you were this forgiving with the game, and opted to not say it's 'the first bad zelda game' because they are far worse entries like Four Swords Anniversary and (UNPOPULAR OPINION APPROACHING) the original LoZ. The divisive nature of this game is also why I'm terrified of SomeCallMeJohnny's review of it...

    Skyward sword is a mixed bag. What is does well, it does near flawlessly and there are so many great things I can say about this game to make it stand out, much more than TP at least. Problem is that is has the biggest list of flaws of any 3D Zelda game and misses the mark way too many times. I do respect it for being different and trying t put a fresh spin on an old formula unlike TP. Don;t get me wrong though, I love SS and TP, just they don;t compare to OOT, MM, WW, and Link`s Awakening IMO

    @ChannelGrayCTSW 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    You're right on target. SS does have many hit-and-miss points, the two biggest flaws being the lack of exploration and the hand-holding. However, it's gorgeous to look at, the story, humor and characterizations are fantastic, and the motion controls were near-perfect (the only thing I struggle with is walking on tightropes). It also has some of the better 3D Zelda dungeons. It's not lacking for great music, namely The Sky, Ballad of the Goddess, and Fi's Theme. (continued)

    I don't think you talk about the story or characters nearly enough! That's what did the game for me! I agree with much! I'd want way more to explore and i hate those 2 dungeons you mentioned! But waiting for a new cutscene made it all so worth it! And The main characters (Link,Zelda,Girahim) actually have personalyties, somthing the mains usually lack. I am pretty lonely in loving Fi i guess but i'm also alone in loving the Water temple from oot =P
    Good review CJ! I can feel the effort!

    Great review. I love what you like to call Fi. I actually laughed at that because I feel the same way about her. Here's one thing that I would like implemented in the next Zelda game. I want to be able to toggle the level of assistance by the companion. For example, I could have it completely disabled, have it show when I spend a long time without any progress in a puzzle, or only show when I ask for it. With Fi, I felt that the game held my hand all game and didn't let me enjoy the challenge.

    Speaking as a person who really enjoyed this game. I do actually agree with most of your issues of the game.
    However, at the same time, the parts that I really loved about the game, just made me love it and made the most impact on me as a Zelda fan.
    But what seems to be a game breaker to one is not so much to another, and what's enjoyable to one is also not as enjoyable to another. To each his own really.
    Good review though. :)

    I honestly believe Fi gets a lot more hate then she deserves. Yes, she's like a robot and she's the queen of obvious. But that sometimes makes the game very entertaining, like with the missions with Scrapper. Plus, in case you overlook something, she can be very helpful in reminding you about certain items or enemies. Does she deserve some critisism? Yes. Is she the most annoying compainion yet? No. I personally feel Ezlo from Minish Cap is, but that's just me.

    I hated this game so much! This made me never want motion controls in any video game ever! I wish it was more like Red Steel 2 where it only used the motion pulse where it was needed and not for every thing. I did not even make it up to the first boss before giving up on this game. Good review I am a Zelda fan but I had no fun playing skywards sword.

    Hey cj I actually never played any of the Zelda games, but if I would like to start playing them and I like to do the 3D ones more, which game would be best to start me off with this series, Ocrina of Time, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Majora's Mask, or this game?

  • @ChannelGrayCTSW
    @ChannelGrayCTSW 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    (from previous) For me, the positives far outweigh the negatives in SS. I wouldn't say it's the weakest 3D Zelda game (that would be Twilight Princess IMO). Overall, while I like this game better than you do, this is a fantastic review with many valid points and it's very well made. Great job! :)
