Sonic Adventure 2... I love this game. Yes, there are some HORRRRRRRRIBLE faults (especially audio), but I still have a lot of fun with it, and try to accept the faults, and not let them effect my experience.
Why do people complain about the audio? At least you can hear what the characters are saying, although yeah the lyrics for songs usually aren't clear. If you want bad audio try watching My Hero Academia on Toonami & tell me you can understand half of what that Announcer Guy says.
As much as Mad Space was very much flawed, it was an interesting concept. It's execution wasn't successful, but given the time period, consoles wouldn't be able to handle that action. Ultimately, it would've worked better if it was done on Wii, similar to Super Mario Galaxy.
This is so far my favorite review of this game. First covering the basics on an objective way, later saying your experience in the game and ending saying a Score overallbeing the fairest you can be. Definitely between my favorites reviewers.

Ya see this is the kind of review I've been waiting for for this game in awhile. With Johnny and TheRetroReplay saying it wasn't as good as it was when it came out or that it sucks because only the running stage are good just makes me sad. I still love this game just as much as I did as a kid when it first came out. The treasure hunting and shooting stages being different didn't bother me. I was just happy to be able to play as Eggman, Knuckles, Tails, and Rouge. I do admit the space levels in the treasure hunting stages were quite difficult and took too long to complete. And some of the later shooting stages felt too hard. BUT it was still tons of fun for me and it felt more like a challenging game for me to blast through than a bad game that only had a few redeeming things about it. Seriously, it feels like people are so picky with the Sonic games nowadays. If they come across anything different from the original formula or some sort of gimmick, they instantly hate it and can't be bothered to try and get it good at it. I was annoyed at Sonic Heroes new control scheme when I first played it. But that didn't stop me from mastering them and getting super good at the game. It wasn't until I mastered the controls and how the game played that I was able to enjoy myself. And if you still want to argue that the controls suck and we shouldn't have to get used to them. I give you the example of old Megaman NES games. I didn't grow up on those, so when I try to play them, the controls feel too weird and Megaman just doesn't feel right and I find it hard to take on opponents. I know it's a classic to many, but I just can't seem to adapt like others have been able to. Should I call Megaman a sucky game because I feel the controls are bad. No, I won't, because I know that if I were to practice enough I could master the game. That is the same reason why many Sonic fans love games like this and can pick them up and play them no problem. They grew up on these games and so they are able to adapt to the new style of gameplay much more easily than others. So next time you play a game and think it sucks, do your research and try to practice at it. If you just can't find enjoyment out of the game no matter what, then I feel your pain. I'm still trying to figure out how to enjoy NES Megaman games.
Well that's great for you, but the reason people seem picky about Sonic games is because like how you and CJ still like it just as much to look past the flaws of the game, the "haters" clearly can't. The issue isn't that the games are different, the issue is that the things that are different aren't handled well. Poor enemy placement, a lack of a well made radar as well as how buggy the game can get or how unreasonably paced some of the stages can be, or they're based on one part that doesn't even work that well, (grinding on rails) aren't just nitpicky issues. Not everybody hates Sonic because it's the cool thing to hate, or because of slight nipicks, no. People have legitamite reasons to hate Sonic games. And I'm saying this because, while it's far from my favorite, I like Sonic. The genesis games, Advanced, Rush, a bit of Heroes, a bit of Lost World, Half of Unleashed, Half of Colors, and Most of Generations are great. In fact if I wrote this 5 years ago, I would've completely agreed with you! But the thing is this- There are flaws, and some people just find the amount flaws to be larger than the positives.
I also find moments where the camera refuses to behave itself, along with the controls being extremely sensitive with weird hit detection when it comes to solid objects. Can't say this game has aged very well, but I still love the Chao Gardens.
great review. This is actually my favorite sonic game (tied with colors). I love the level design and soundtrack; although, I don't know why, but the chao garden isn't something that interested me too much.

I actually LOVED the section where Sonic speaks over Shadow with "I'm gonna make you eat those words!" Because it was a BRILLIANT section. I liked it when the music overlapped everything, because I love closed captions, as such. Inventing words is great fun. I loved Pumpkin hill, and I always heard something different every time I played one of the tracks where you can't hear the words. Once I heard "Your a wizard, a wizard, a wizard, yeh." Repeat over and over on one of the tracks. Good times.

HEY EVERYONE, IT'S A LONG, OPINION-Y COMMENT! ISN'T READING FUN!? I actually loved the shooting stages a bunch and also most of the treasure hunting ones, but you are right - The running stages were the best and yet they were a minority, which is one major problem with the game. I still believe this is one of Sonic's best games even with it's flaws (because overall, I think the good outweighs the bad by a ton). There's a lot of great things that came from this game that the new games seem to neglect but I doubt Sega will go back to making Sonic games in this style based on the direction the current games have continued to go. The SA2 content that was in Sonic Generations was definitely fantastic though!
Actually there were only 9 Shooting stages & 9 Treasure Hunting Stages because of the 2 Kart Stages compared to the 10 Main Story Running Stages & Green Hill. Personally I want another game in the Adventure style although Sonic Team only cares about Boost these days.
Awesome review, CJ! It was nice to see someone not be blinded by nostalgia when reviewing this game. This is still probably my favorite Sonic game...mainly 'cause I had way too much fun with it. But I never noticed the bad audio when I was a kid. It's pretty unprofessional, like you said, which is a shame 'cause this is one of the few Sonic stories I can tolerate (probably the only one I really like. XD) I gotta say though, I know how you feel about the lyrics part of the song! I had NO idea what they were saying when I was younger! One last thing, I've really been noticing how much work you are putting into making unique and eye popping transitions for your videos. You did that before, but your creativity and skills are really starting to shine! :) Awesome job!

Yes this is my favorite Sonic game! I am really just hoping they make a new sequel to this mainly so my little sister can experience a new game in her childhood as I did when I was a kid, more importantly a new chao garden would be amazing! Well anyways this was an amazing review cjs.
I think the selling point of the game is playing as ALL the characters, not playing as just Sonic and Shadow ^_^; Otherwise, awesome review! And kudos for not making any dirty jokes about Rouge, you have the restraint of a saint XD
I know I know, but still its freakin ROUGE, I myself am a very clean guy and I would be hard pressed not to at least remark on her impressive figure and bust through an entire 10 minute review. I personally don't think Sheena is as bad as Rouge personally, she may be bustier but she herself isn't flirty like Rouge is and she is dressed more conservatively. Staying 90% cleaning definitely one of the things I love most about Cjs' videos, so many reviewers end up swearing like sailors making themselves look like complete idiots and cracking jokes that would make Eric Cartman blush in shame. It takes real talent to make ones material consistently funny and entertaining without giving into vulgar and lame clichés, Cjszero is a perfect example of that :)
People really complain about this game's story? I mean, it's not amazing but it sure as hell beats the crap stories of Unleashed, Colors, Generations, and...oh God... Sonic Boom.
I have tons of issues with the game Running Stages: -Why are there so many actions to the B button? The Dreamcast/Gamecube had a similar set up to Xbox 360 controller set ups so why couldn't we just Spin Dash with B, Ring Dash with Y, Somersault with X, Bounce by the same way it is in the game, and pick stuff up or Mystic medley with Z? -Sonic's Pyramid Stage. The way it goes about putting items in spots slows the game down to a hault and it happens constantly. -Shadow's Sky Rail. Making a stage based off of Grind Rails and nothing else, when the switching to Grind Rails barely works is terrible to say the least. Shooting Stages: -They're cramped. -Poor enemy placement -How slow they are in comparison to everything else -Why can't Tails just not be in his mech? -All of Tails' stages -All but the last Eggman Stage. That one was actually fun. Treasure Hunting Stages: -The radar. -Useless hints that could lower your score -how they are incredibly fast, yet aside from the last two stages they don't get to take advantage of them. -Meteor Herd may have a lot of room to run around and glide around, but searching for Emeralds there is just a bad time waiting to happen. -Mad Space. Enough said.
I love this game too, my mom bought this game before I was born, then once I understood how to atleast play the game (About 4 or 5 years old), now, even 10 years later, I still enjoy this game dearly!
I have the gamecube version but sometimes the system doesn't detect the disc and I have to constantly reset it. even though the disc is clean. also even though the graphics have aged horribly, I know it's strange coming from my perspective, but I love the graphics of this game. idk why but yeah

cjszero01 That's very surprising to me. Don't get me wrong, I love this game. It was one of my favorite games when it came out but recently I've gone back to play it a few times and I was constantly fighting the camera to get to the right spot. Maybe I just got unlucky or I prefer weird camera angles! :P (BTW, you have THE BEST transitions out of any youtuber I've seen. Not particularly on this video... they aren't bad, just not quite as mind blowing as some of your others. Easily my favorite one was the first video of your's I saw, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.)

I thought the shooting stages were fun. The mine level and Mad Space were horrible though and Mad Space is one of the few stages keeping me from getting all A's.
I hate this game with a sweet passion. I can't even count how many times I've written a review in comments on videos and everytime it ends with a 2/10 - you tried.
Here's what I think about the 3 gameplay styles in this game. -Sonic and Shadow: *BEST GAMEPLAY STYLE IN ANY 3D PLATFORMER AND I HAVE YET TO SEE ANY OTHER 3D PLATFORMER SURPASS IT!!!* -Knuckles and Rouge: They're pretty fun. The levels are really fun to explore and the controls are very top notch. Althogh it would do if it wern't for the broken radar system but other than that they're pretty fun to play. -Tails and Eggman: They're mediocre at best. I hate controlling the Mechs and The levels are really freaking boring. The only levels that I liked in this are Mission Street, Weapon's Bed and Cosmic Wall. But I'll gladly take this gameplay over the Big the Cat stages in Adventure 1. Which probably means I enjoy 2/3rds of this game.
Your right. I spent HOURS on the chao garden. Also I see you didn't exploit the glitch in the chao garden by dropping the animal a small distance away from the chao, and then the animal could be used over and over again. Defeat the first gym? More like CRUSH the Pokémon League in an hour!
Supposedly the sound problem isn't as bad in the original version of the game. Also, wish I could do a 15 minute challenge of Sonic Adventure 2: Battle vs. you. Unfortunately I don't have any way of recording gameplay from my gamecube. :/ You'd probably beat me anyway, since I never got around to getting all A ranks. Finally a last salute to lost chao! Buddy and Dixie will be forever missed. I take it from your interest in the chao garden that you know about the heaven and hell gardens but figured I'd mention them in case you didn't.
I can say this for sure: one does not simply play Generations (or any of the other post-06 Sonics, I'm guessing) and easily switch back to Adventure 2's controls after years of not playing it. Forgot how much more sensitive Sonic/Shadow's turning is, and the homing attack sure likes to decide "nope, not gonna lock onto that." Cue this nostalgic player buying the Steam port and running into a lot of walls and falling to his death multiple times due to missing rails and enemies while midair.
The most ridiculous interpretation was on the sonic/shadow boss. While you're so trippin' sounds like decent lyrics, unfortunately the lyrics you played were "Stars don't twinkle" at you're so trippin and "moon doesn't shine" at the ???????????

Saying the sumersault is pointless is like saying there's no point to the ring dash or there don't need to be obstacles you have to use the bounce bracelet for. There new complications that would only be pointless if there weren't places to use them and small places aren't the only oppurtunity to use the sumersault you can attack with it break boxes and with the fire ring you can break metal boxes! You say its a pointless add on that doesn't fit in the game I couldn't disagree more I thought it was fun to use and experiment with this new move and it makes you look cool to destroy enemies with it!
The ring dash actually makes Sonic zip through parts as well as reach other areas. If you take away the somersault you really don't lose much as the times where it's included are kind of pointless, feel forced, and don't really offer anything. In fact somersaulting had been replaced by sliding in latter games so that kind of backs up my point about it being a questionable move. I would also say the only container that's worth braking is the Chao box and that can be broken by the bounce bracelet. If you like the somersault that's your opinion and you're entitled to it but I really didn't see what it had to offer besides the parts where it was necessary (forced).
This review made me pick up this game. I pretty much fell in love with the game. Haven't beaten it yet, because it's really hard to get an all a-rank, but it still awesome. Thank you cjszero01!

I don't think it's a bad stage, but it's not my favorite stage. I prefer either Metal Harbour or Final Rush.

HEY EVERYONE, IT'S A LONG, OPINION-Y COMMENT! ISN'T READING FUN!?
I actually loved the shooting stages a bunch and also most of the treasure hunting ones, but you are right - The running stages were the best and yet they were a minority, which is one major problem with the game. I still believe this is one of Sonic's best games even with it's flaws (because overall, I think the good outweighs the bad by a ton). There's a lot of great things that came from this game that the new games seem to neglect but I doubt Sega will go back to making Sonic games in this style based on the direction the current games have continued to go. The SA2 content that was in Sonic Generations was definitely fantastic though!
Also, I loved the editing in this review! Awesome job CJ!
Actually there were only 9 Shooting stages & 9 Treasure Hunting Stages because of the 2 Kart Stages compared to the 10 Main Story Running Stages & Green Hill. Personally I want another game in the Adventure style although Sonic Team only cares about Boost these days.

Awesome review, CJ! It was nice to see someone not be blinded by nostalgia when reviewing this game. This is still probably my favorite Sonic game...mainly 'cause I had way too much fun with it. But I never noticed the bad audio when I was a kid. It's pretty unprofessional, like you said, which is a shame 'cause this is one of the few Sonic stories I can tolerate (probably the only one I really like. XD) I gotta say though, I know how you feel about the lyrics part of the song! I had NO idea what they were saying when I was younger!
One last thing, I've really been noticing how much work you are putting into making unique and eye popping transitions for your videos. You did that before, but your creativity and skills are really starting to shine! :) Awesome job!

One of my favorite games. Got all A's and even got a chaos choa. Spent A whole lot of time on this game. And developed my crush on rouge. The story, gameplay thing was a nice touch for the video.

Yes this is my favorite Sonic game! I am really just hoping they make a new sequel to this mainly so my little sister can experience a new game in her childhood as I did when I was a kid, more importantly a new chao garden would be amazing!

As a kid For the meteor field level for knuckles I seriously thought the lyrics "go go get yo hoes" lol laugh till this day about that XD
Whenever I first played the game, I first thought those lyrics were "go go hit the bow".
I think the characters talking over each other sounds more natural.

ROUGE, I myself am a very clean guy and I would be hard pressed not to at least remark on her impressive figure and bust through an entire 10 minute review. I personally don't think Sheena is as bad as Rouge personally, she may be bustier but she herself isn't flirty like Rouge is and she is dressed more conservatively.
Staying 90% cleaning definitely one of the things I love most about Cjs' videos, so many reviewers end up swearing like sailors making themselves look like complete idiots and cracking jokes that would make Eric Cartman blush in shame. It takes real talent to make ones material consistently funny and entertaining without giving into vulgar and lame clichés, Cjszero is a perfect example of that :)

People really complain about this game's story? I mean, it's not amazing but it sure as hell beats the crap stories of Unleashed, Colors, Generations, and...oh God... Sonic Boom.
Adventure 2 might have the best story for a sonic game since most are similar or exactly the same

I have tons of issues with the game
Running Stages:
-Why are there so many actions to the B button? The Dreamcast/Gamecube had a similar set up to Xbox 360 controller set ups so why couldn't we just Spin Dash with B, Ring Dash with Y, Somersault with X, Bounce by the same way it is in the game, and pick stuff up or Mystic medley with Z?
-Sonic's Pyramid Stage. The way it goes about putting items in spots slows the game down to a hault and it happens constantly.
-Shadow's Sky Rail. Making a stage based off of Grind Rails and nothing else, when the switching to Grind Rails barely works is terrible to say the least.
Shooting Stages:
-They're cramped.
-Poor enemy placement
-How slow they are in comparison to everything else
-Why can't Tails just not be in his mech?
-All of Tails' stages
-All but the last Eggman Stage. That one was actually fun.
Treasure Hunting Stages:
-The radar.
-Useless hints that could lower your score
-how they are incredibly fast, yet aside from the last two stages they don't get to take advantage of them.
-Meteor Herd may have a lot of room to run around and glide around, but searching for Emeralds there is just a bad time waiting to happen.
-Mad Space. Enough said.

I love this game too, my mom bought this game before I was born, then once I understood how to atleast play the game (About 4 or 5 years old), now, even 10 years later, I still enjoy this game dearly!

I have the gamecube version but sometimes the system doesn't detect the disc and I have to constantly reset it. even though the disc is clean. also even though the graphics have aged horribly, I know it's strange coming from my perspective, but I love the graphics of this game. idk why but yeah

My Theory on the Moon, is that Eggman fixed like in Sonic X. That is the best I got.
Actually the developers say it's still only half there.
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is still my favourite game and I love playing the game in both English and Japanese!

cjszero01 That's very surprising to me. Don't get me wrong, I love this game. It was one of my favorite games when it came out but recently I've gone back to play it a few times and I was constantly fighting the camera to get to the right spot. Maybe I just got unlucky or I prefer weird camera angles! :P (BTW, you have THE BEST transitions out of any youtuber I've seen. Not particularly on this video... they aren't bad, just not quite as mind blowing as some of your others. Easily my favorite one was the first video of your's I saw, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.)
+GameGaming Nah the camera mechanics are pretty lame af when you're trying to do anything more than relfexivley, or effortlessly go through the level like ususal.
you can always just hold the shoulder buttons to make the camera go at a different angle

I thought the shooting stages were fun. The mine level and Mad Space were horrible though and Mad Space is one of the few stages keeping me from getting all A's.
The only other colored Sonic manual I've seen is Sonic Advance 2 for GBA. xD

I hate this game with a sweet passion. I can't even count how many times I've written a review in comments on videos and everytime it ends with a 2/10 - you tried.
Here's what I think about the 3 gameplay styles in this game.
-Sonic and Shadow: *BEST GAMEPLAY STYLE IN ANY 3D PLATFORMER AND I HAVE YET TO SEE ANY OTHER 3D PLATFORMER SURPASS IT!!!*
-Knuckles and Rouge: They're pretty fun. The levels are really fun to explore and the controls are very top notch. Althogh it would do if it wern't for the broken radar system but other than that they're pretty fun to play.
-Tails and Eggman: They're mediocre at best. I hate controlling the Mechs and The levels are really freaking boring. The only levels that I liked in this are Mission Street, Weapon's Bed and Cosmic Wall. But I'll gladly take this gameplay over the Big the Cat stages in Adventure 1.
Which probably means I enjoy 2/3rds of this game.

I like both games. I LOATHE the Knuckles levels in SA2. So FRUSTRATING! Finding the shards ONE AT A TIME sucks. Oh, and so overrated.
Your right. I spent HOURS on the chao garden. Also I see you didn't exploit the glitch in the chao garden by dropping the animal a small distance away from the chao, and then the animal could be used over and over again. Defeat the first gym? More like CRUSH the Pokémon League in an hour!
Supposedly the sound problem isn't as bad in the original version of the game.
Also, wish I could do a 15 minute challenge of Sonic Adventure 2: Battle vs. you. Unfortunately I don't have any way of recording gameplay from my gamecube. :/ You'd probably beat me anyway, since I never got around to getting all A ranks.
Finally a last salute to lost chao! Buddy and Dixie will be forever missed. I take it from your interest in the chao garden that you know about the heaven and hell gardens but figured I'd mention them in case you didn't.
I can say this for sure: one does not simply play Generations (or any of the other post-06 Sonics, I'm guessing) and easily switch back to Adventure 2's controls after years of not playing it. Forgot how much more sensitive Sonic/Shadow's turning is, and the homing attack sure likes to decide "nope, not gonna lock onto that." Cue this nostalgic player buying the Steam port and running into a lot of walls and falling to his death multiple times due to missing rails and enemies while midair.
Why not Top 10 Kalos Pokemon fir a future project?...or did you already do that? I forget.
I guess you're thinking of that Gen 6 special he did. He only did up to Gen 5, so it's still possible
The most ridiculous interpretation was on the sonic/shadow boss. While you're so trippin' sounds like decent lyrics, unfortunately the lyrics you played were "Stars don't twinkle" at you're so trippin and "moon doesn't shine" at the ???????????

Saying the sumersault is pointless is like saying there's no point to the ring dash or there don't need to be obstacles you have to use the bounce bracelet for. There new complications that would only be pointless if there weren't places to use them and small places aren't the only oppurtunity to use the sumersault you can attack with it break boxes and with the fire ring you can break metal boxes! You say its a pointless add on that doesn't fit in the game I couldn't disagree more I thought it was fun to use and experiment with this new move and it makes you look cool to destroy enemies with it!
The ring dash actually makes Sonic zip through parts as well as reach other areas. If you take away the somersault you really don't lose much as the times where it's included are kind of pointless, feel forced, and don't really offer anything. In fact somersaulting had been replaced by sliding in latter games so that kind of backs up my point about it being a questionable move. I would also say the only container that's worth braking is the Chao box and that can be broken by the bounce bracelet. If you like the somersault that's your opinion and you're entitled to it but I really didn't see what it had to offer besides the parts where it was necessary (forced).
