Disregarded Brawl's Meta Knight and Dedede.
Disregarded Smash 4's Palutena as well as his 2 assist trophies, 2 stages, 6 items and 14 smash run enemies.
Mario12112345 I wouldn't bring up Meta Knight and Dedede considering they actually deserve to be in. Kirby is a big series and only have one rep would be silly. If you had to ask me I'd actually want a 4th, that being Dark Matter.
And I wouldn't say Palutena is over representing Kid Icarus. She helps flesh out the fact that the series got a reboot and brings a unique moveset at least.
The overkill on the items and smash run enemies I agree with. And...there are TWO KI stages? I didn't even know that. He's pretty much just shoving the series in our faces in Smash 4.

Nowadays, it doesn't even matter, because Smash 4 is supposed to be an amazing game, and adding HIS series' characters into the game just creates a better product.

Two Kid Icarus newcomers, one of whom is basically an alt costume that has its own roster spot, replaced the difficulty settings with the heart system from Uprising, and shoved Smash run full of Kid Icarus enemies.
I love Sakurai, but that really pissed me off.

Even though I don't particularly like the two Pokemon all too much, I think I would've loved to see Plusle and Minun as electric Ice Climber-like characters. Still would've been better and more creative than Pichu...

Rather avid fan, actually. Light ball boosts the stats of pikachu when held.
Minun should just be alone as a fighter and Plusle would be her final smash. First reason, Minun is better and smexier and second reason, I would like if the Ice Climbers were kept unique.
I personally think the battle damage idea would have been great: Mario would miss a button on his overalls, sonic would have dark spots (bruises) on himself, Marth could have holes in his cape.... tons of possibilities there.

How ironic... Roy Koopa got into SSB4. It obviously had to be Fire Emblem's Roy - I mean, why would just Roy Koopa be playable when he isn't that important as Bowser Jr.? And how would the Metal Gear Roy fight?
Also, Fire Emblem's Roy might be coming back, according to that 3DS datamine which reveals files for him and Street Fighter's Ryu.

As someone who only played the Smash Bros. games locally with friends, I never realized how awful it's online community was.
And it just keeps getting worse, although mostly from the Melee fanbase that is.
It's one of those awesome games with an awful community, like Dark Souls or.....really any fighting game.

Such is the case with most of the greatest games, especially if the game has an online community.
ebusive That's not we mean't when saying online community, it doesn't mean playing Smash online. It means like groups, forums, a bunch of people gathering around on the internet sort of thing, like the youtube comments here. Basically the fanbase, but more particularly the Melee fanbase, those who enjoy Super Smash Bros Melee above the rest, because apparently all other Smash games are crap to them. Because they don't have wavedashing or any other advance tech they loved in the Melee game, kind of like exploits or glitches in the game. So yeah, they just hate all other Smash games, such as Super Smash Bros Wii U/3ds, even though they claim they don't, but they actually do hate them, because they don't play like Melee.

Eh, I heard that Paulatena was fairly requested, Kirby has a medium amount of characters, and all of them are Main Characters. Dark Pit though...
That's 3 characters per game, and considering all of them are pretty popular and plot relevant, I think it's fine. Maybe the surplus of KI items/enemies might be a bit overkill, but I'm actually very happy with the roster.
It is a pretty good roster.
Dark Pit was just an upgraded alt costume which took virtually no work. Not a whole lot of favoritism. Palutena was very highly requested, same with KDDD and MK. The KI enemies are overrepresented because the models for them are already designed and optimized for an action 3DS game, which makes utilizing them easier. Also, I imagine Sakurai getting a hold of the models he used for KIU is much easier than harassing other studios to send them assets.

Sakurai said one spot 4 Pokémon left for Wii U and 3DS Smash Bros I think it is Mewtwo since all the Pokémon in the upcoming one are the ones from the X and Y series like Greninja and the ones with Megas now like ONLY CHARIZARD since Pokémon Trainer doesn't evolve Squirtle and Ivysaur. Mewtwo has a mega so he could come back I also think Mewtwo will be back because this video proves that he could of been on every smash bros.

I saw a screenshot recently, where Peach used Toad as a shield, this probably means that he's part of Peach's moveset. But I don't think he's going to be playable, unfortunately :/

And, even though it's still this many years later, I still miss Roy. Don't care if he's unloved by others, but I always loved him. I just wish he'd get a little more game-time here and there.

I will be honest, the music in Melee is so good that I find myself actually tearing up over it. It is like Sakurai wanted to go out with a bang in Melee, which is why the other games are not as good in the musical department. So, do not blame him, because he did not even want more sequels.
I mean think about it. Melee is literally fantastic in nearly every staple it has. It has lots of really slick gameplay mechanics, the best orchestra of all Gamecube games that I already said has made me legitimately cry over how good the compositions were and the effort in nostalgia was driven flawlessly.
Brawl actually replicated itself as a flawless sequel in terms of content with that sick Story Mode and remixes of old game music. However, he just wanted it to be a party game by this point and did not really care; not his fault since he DID want Melee to be the last entry in the series altogether; hence its heavy effort.
And then comes SSB4, a game where he decided to go all out once again; but not in content. No, everyone DEMANDED he have more competitive play, and we finally got that. Gone are all the dick moves you can do in Melee and combos are of the essence. Truly, graphically, and gameplay-wise, SSB4 is pretty damn great.
In the end, I love Melee because I grew up with it and because of its incredibly expansive Debug Mode that has seen more codes utilize it in wonderful ways. I would have loved it if Melee was finished so that it could have had final smashes, Snake and Sonic. Seeing a finished Melee makes me tremble with excitement because of how good it already is.
I am not a fanboy, though, since my favoritism goes to Project M; only because of its own effort which reminds me of Melee. I also believe that SSB4 will have awesome DLC in the future and more tweaks, maybe even a Melee Mode option at some point and much more to make it the pinnacle of the series.
I want people to understand that Melee is as good as it is in effort because Sakurai just wanted it all to end there and took all his best ideas and put them there. It is a truly great game, and I am okay with everyone favoring it as the epitome of Super Smash Bros. That is okay because he kind of DID want it to be that way. Not planning sequels means they will suck since all of the ideas are gone.
Okay, maybe Brawl wasn't a disaster in terms of its content; that game was just as good in most departments of fast menus and such. Truly, only SSB4 disappoints in lots of areas in terms of menus and repetition of most Brawl sound effects. But, again, he was focusing on areas people WANTED; which were having more competitive gameplay.
But, Sakurai did not want it to be like Melee again; instead, he opted for a new style. No more ledge hogging, no more quick combat so that even beginners stand a chance if they move correctly and just having an overall more balanced experience which delivers. I have played every character -(except Olimar because he sucks ass; do not hate)- and I think that they are all evenly balanced and competitively tuned in comparison to Melee.
As many people state before, skill is obviously the changing factor in this balance. However, some characters in Melee just DO NOT work no matter how much skill you got. I would say Pichu is the worst because he damages himself every freaking time you attack at all and it requires you to be the master of Melee to actually put up winning streaks with this little guy.
All the same, I, too, wanted him in SSB4 because I love playing as him. Speaking of, I wish they chose a new Pokémon other than freaking Greninja -(his moveset is good, but I hate him in general)- because EVERYONE thought the old Pokémon had more fighting potential. But, I digress.
Basically, Melee is the best in terms of effort because- yada, yada, I literally said this already so many times. So, just do not say the sequels are awful because they were not really intended to be as effort-driven and blah, blah, blah. That is all I can say. Melee is quick, Brawl has a great story, SSB4 has the best characters and I never mentioned 64. Have a good day.

Sakurai wanted Melee to be the last because, at the time, he was fed up with sequels; hence, his departure from his other series, Kirby. His last Kirby title was Kirby Air Ride and he was fed up with the demands for sequels.
He did not want this fighting game to become another staple of many sequels either, so he put all his effort into Melee (thirteen months without a single break and four hours of sleep a day) and made it one of the most spectacular games that he had ever made.

From there, he planned a casual sequel without realizing that people wanted more of Melee's gameplay mechanics, not a casual fighter with an awesome story, high detail for a Wii game, among other things.
And then, Sm4sh carried that legacy even further and went on to have a SIGNIFICANT amount of effort driven into it; so much so that Sakurai was suffering in his health and in his socializing with others; only dedicating his time to the game.
So, it makes sense that he wanted to end this series. In one review, he also stated that nobody else could do what he did, which is why he is very hesitant of passing the game onto someone else; hence, his return to Brawl.
If Sm4sh is the last entry by him, it will be the last entry in general. Many say there will be another, but without Sakurai heading, combined with his refusal to pass the game down, it will be the last game.
That is, unless his passion, and fan demand, drives him into making another sequel; followed by hospitalization from overworking himself.

Another SSBM trophy easter egg is: Go to the Ganondorf Classic Mode trophy, where he seems idle and has the game's grey eyes. However, if you activate the Viewing Mode for the trophy and change the background to the shadowy background, the trophy will change. Ganondorf's eyes will feature red pupils and will glow a bright orange, presumably a refernce to the completely orange eyes featured shortly before transforming into Ganon for the final battle of LoZ Ocarina of Time.

roy would be better than ike, as roy can move faster, and has no rocks bound to him (as in weight) (i played SSBM, i know what i'm talking about)

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that first note. I've been playing Ike VS Marth with my cousin recently (yes, I know, Roy is stronger than Marth but he is basically just a clone). Doesn't matter how fast you are, a good string of combos from a powerhouse like Ike and it makes very little difference. Slower? yes. Floats like a brick? true. But three or four solid hits and a little patience is all it takes. This is coming from someone who played Roy all the time in Melee.
On the second part, however, I agree. A little DLC would give the Wii marketplace some much needed attention, because lets face it Nintendo really dropped the ball when it comes to the online community for that console, it also gives them a chance to add in characters that didn't make the deadline as well as give them some extra cash (lets be honest, that's what they really care about, right?)

i played roy, and it was easier to make big damage with him, than ike.... cuz ike is slow and to damage someone, you need to hit them..... and without the right speed, that kinda sux
i tried with ike VS cpu's..... and it worked well, cuz they are dumb, but i cant make the hits i want, like i could with roy in SSBM
speaking of the second part, wouldnt it be cool to get some SSBM chars into SSBB? just a small price, and we can have a true "ike vs roy"
i would like to fight against old ganondorf, as he also became slow in brawl.... in SSBM he was a real challenge imo :P

Roy is among the worst characters in Melee holding the 20th position (out of 26) on the tier list. His low knock-back, low mobility and lack of speed prevent Roy users from competing against most characters with high capabilities like Spacies, Shiek, Falcon and Peach.
Marth on the other hand is in the S tier and has been ever since the game came out. He is fast, has combos and kills at lower percentage than Roy.

comparing isnt my thing, but they replaced roy with a much slower char (ike), and thats why i DO compare, but with my own experience
its really how you use characters
alot of people think kirby is bad/weak without using powers through copying them, yet i am real good with kirby
tbh, i find those so called "tiers" idiotic at times, as you can be slower and yet better than other chars.... but ike really is slow
i bet i could beat alot of ike users in 1 on 1 battle, while they beat stronger CPU's

Roy will be released in the next version of Project M, a mod for Brawl where he will receive the buffs he deserves.
I think you get the concept of tier list wrong. A character standing is not made based on its fanbase. Looking at the data (hitboxes, frames, character-based tech skills, weight, etc) people were able to analyze the potential of every character. After 12 years of competitive gaming, Melee's tier list didn't change much. If 12 years of hardcore competitive gaming all around the world and actual data in the game is not enough to establish a ranking among characters than I do not know what can.
One of the best player in the world (Mew2King) has an amazing Roy, yet his Roy does not even come close to most Marths you'd see in any high level competition. Which is sad given I'm a Roy fan myself.
At the moment Ike is a better character than Roy, but the next update for Project M will change that ;) Hooray for Roy!
btw Kirby is the only character that is as bad as Pichu. Most of his moves set up the opponent and his knock-back doesn't scale with damage, among other weakness such as range, bad grabs and initial lags. (he too gets a huge buff in Project M :D!!)
I know there are updated SSB DYKGs, but the old ones are better imo for some reason

Did you know that in the first Smash Bros., Giant Donkey Kong was his own character. Although he was the same model and same moveset, he is considered a whole other non-playable character like the ploygons and metal mario.

So Duck Hunt Duo was never considered for Melee but they were probably included in SSB4 to replace the ice climbers who "couldn't make it due to hardware limitations". I'm only guessing!
