I have a 2022 Toyota Tacoma off-road. And you can change this setting while you're driving. It does not matter what speed you're driving at you can disable the pre-collision system or turn it back on or change the sensitivity all while you're driving. And you can also do the same with the lane departure alert.

Yup. The older systems allow this while moving. The newer ones do not. The Tacoma, 4Runner, Sienna and Camry are the last of the legacy systems

I wish it would stay off when you turn it off. Mine always goes off when I'm on a winding road and there are cars parked on the right side of the road. The car doesn't seem to realize that the cars aren't in my lane because they're in front of me due to the winding road. It can be kind of dangerous if a person is behind me and this feature causes my car to stop.

Wow. So two things. First, are you sure this is the pre collision and not the lane departure? It sounds like the lane departure and that can be turned off. Just hit the button on your steering wheel. If it is the pre collision, have you gone into the settings and set the sensitivity to minimum? That would help if that’s it.

Just bought my first Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. I turn these "safety" features off and they come back on the next time the car turns on. What a hassle. Not sure that these things add any value to me. It seems to me that over time, drivers will become even more complacent. In any case, I prefer to have full control over the car. If driving, you should be looking at the road and not be distracted. Besides, what do I care about speeding signs on my dashboard (that's already cluttered), I can see them just fine on my own. I'm a bit concerned about exposure to these radar systems not just to me but the pedestrians. I'm also concerned about data privacy: Why am I responsible for any privacy violations of my passengers, especially since I have no obvious (or perhaps any) means to turn these things off permanently? So I paid for these systems I don't want. Much of these are standard and not really an option. How do I permanently disable them? Can a Toyota Service Center remove these systems or at least disconnect them? Currently, I have duct tap on my windshield to block the camera at the top. I have to figure something out about that logo.

    • @Gino20202

The feature is advertised. The fact that you can't disable it indefinitely or permanently is not. Also, Toyota claims that any modification to the vehicle will void the warranty. It's not something that I expected given how modifications to RAV4s appear to be. @@Userxxx840

Also read the privacy notice for Connected Services. Apparently one has to agree to being monitored or go through some process by contacting Toyota to opt-out. And if the driver has passengers, apparently the owner is responsible for notifying passengers of data collection. Yikes. Not sure what to tell you on that. The way these things are now, I wouldn’t even mess with the fuses although there are a couple of boxes that can be checked. Usually one under the hood and another under the driver side dash. The PCS malfunction light can come on if the radar is obstructed so make sure the grill is clean before you do anything though. Honestly it sounds like a trip to your dealer is in order.

I am not sure about mortal threats. But this system is actually dangerous in Saudi Arabia. There is a lack of etiquette in driving and most cars speed. At U-turns people will create a double lane. When making the u-turn in the designated lane, the person creating the double lane comes in on you and gets close to the car while in the turn, the system will sens the proximity of the car and slam the brake. The cars that are speeding up from behind will almost rear end you because your car came to a full stop. A system effective in countries with normal driving but is not effective where drivers are aggressive, speedy, and within inches of your car.
