Q: How do you have internet at your cabins? A: I have cell service at both cabins but it is spotty due to foliage and cloud cover. I can access the internet from my cabins but have to drive to a local wifi location to upload videos.
Q: How old is Frankie? A: Frankie will be 10 in April of 2018
Q: What video editing software do I use? A: Presently, all I use is Windows Live Movie maker but I’m considering trying imovie, Adobe Elements or SONY VEGAS PRO.
Q: How do you get your water? Did you dig a well? A: Presently, I haul water to the NY cabin but at the NH cabin, I drop a kettle into an old well that was dug by hand by the settlers in the 1700’s.
Q:What is your favorite brand of cast iron cookware? A: I prefer using vintage cast iron. My favorites are BSR and Griswold. If I had to buy new I would buy a Lodge Brand. I plan to purchase this dutch oven in the future:
Q: What do you use for refrigeration? A: We have a small gas refrigerator that we salvaged from an old Shasta camper and a custom icebox that I built into the cabin wall. We make ice on site with a propane freezer.

Q: What do you use for cooking and heating? A: We use a Kitchen Queen 380 for cooking and heating during the winter months but we also have an antique gas stove in the cabin for when we don't need the heat from the KQ.

Yes, I have watched this one a few times, and never tire of it. It tells me a lot about things, and how I'm. To enjoy ones company, a good cup of coffee, and to read my journal. Oh yes, a good warm cabin and a wood fire. And of course a dog that is with me and enjoys the simple life! Frankie knows how to enjoy the good life!

I have a cabin without power, running water or cell service. It's a piece of heaven where I can go to decompress. Pure heaven. I understand your passion and I think it's great that you have the talent to share that passion with others.

Your perspective on life is more true than most people stop to realize. I watch people run for buses, honk their horns at drivers in front of them, drive through red lights just to get through the intersection, rush into the parking lot to park their car and rush into the office to their desk. What a way to start your day. I walk to work (50 minutes), there is no sense in rushing because you can only walk so fast. If I want to drop into a coffee shop and read for a while I do. When I arrive at the office, I am in a good frame of mind. I do my work efficiently and effectively but none of this rushing around the office like I am on the most important mission on earth. It's really quite something to see how some people approach work and life. Ask them how their weekend was and the typical response is "busy". I think to myself, you poor soul, life is passing you by and don't even realize it.

I admire you for pursuing the way of life you always dreamed of, and bei,g able to, along with bringing it to the point of accomplishment and fulfillment of your dreams, and continuing, to live those dreams. We love "all" your videos, with maybe, the exception of the trapping ones, BUT, at the same time your trapping videos have been very enlightening, showing the side of it we weren't aware of, plus the more humane way it can be done, with the more humane traps. On another note we would love to see more fishing videos. We absolutely fell in love with Frankie. He's sooo adorable, cute, and smart. I'd say he has a very smart companion in you. I think we've seen all your videos, plus some, more than once, and have been sharing them with family. Looking sooo forward to more videos.

Cutting the last few trees down so I can get the driveway cut & based this next few weeks for my cabin in the woods here in Wisconsin. My favorite time of year to work in the woods. When I get too busy at my job to do any work on my wooded land I watch your videos to help me cope. :). Thanks for the therapy Boss. Cheers to you and Franklin.

I just watched this, today is Dec 18, 2017, love your videos, I grew up with no running water and an outhouse , carried a lot of water so did my sister and 3 brothers, as hard as growing up was, that place will always be home to us.
A beautiful site indeed. Mother nature sure knows how to work her magic. Looks like Frankie is enjoying it as well. :) I wouldn't have one regret in leaving the city behind. With a cabin as well constructed as your I wouldn't be in need of anything.

The simple way of life is what our generation had as children! I had a great childhood and yes we had an outhouse and a coal furnace but, as I look back I too would not trade that way of life for anything. I wish everyone could /would go back to the simple life.. Hugs and blessings to you JC!
I enjoy some of the new technology such as the internet and digital photography and I take advantage of them, but for life in general... I'd give anything to be able to go back and live in the Walton era. Blessings :-)

Beautiful. I just moved to my homestead about 7 weeks ago and I'm still figuring it all out but enjoying the peace of it. I spent the first month stuffing holes where the cold comes in - finally able to find these now that it's cold outside and warm inside! And I love this idea of dreaming and putting it on paper. People find it hard to believe but this IS the key. Enjoy the winter!!

when I was a kid my grandparents had a 300 yrs old cabin on their property we use play school in it,such good memories,thats when I grew to love cabins...all of my life.

Here in Canada we had an ice storm which caused huge power outages. People are going insane and in panic. My buddy just emailed me and said he went to the camp got the generator, took it back home and got his tv, internet hooked up. He is proud to be cooking supper for the family on the wood stove. I told him to shut of the generator and enjoy a real family evening with his family around the wood stove with no distractions. We are so dependent on power and modern conveniences that it is scary. Man if something big ever happened people would not know what to do.
OMG you are so right. If the grid went down it would be absolute chaos. The unarmed vegans would be the first to perish and a good hunter would be your best friend. It would be scary out there :-o

My dad used to do the same thing. We lived in Boston near the airport. He bought a cottage near Farmington, New Hampshire in the early 70's. I'm sure he did it as a distraction from city life. He enjoyed the country. I take after him. Sadly he passed suddenly in 1977 when I was 13. He never got to enjoy the cottage. Some of the best times of my childhood was the short time I spent with him roughing it. I can really relate to your videos.

Brown sugar in coffee and even tea gives both a different flavor. I use light brown sugar, not the dark stuff.
I don't know why, but it seems to give my tea or coffee a more "wholesome" taste/flavor. Sometimes I put powdered chocolate and cinnamon in my coffee as well. Other times I skip the cinnamon. I use light cream in mine. I can't deal with black coffee, it's gotta have a decent amount of cream.
Such a blessed way to live. .....nothing beats it.

The time you have had with Frankie, you've had him for what 14 years. Most of my dogs have lived between 12 to 15 years, and it hurts so damn bad when they die, the love I have for them never dies or diminishes but missing them never goes away. Frankie is a gem of a canine family member, he cracks me up so bad, he knows he is funny, and such a handsome lad.
Losing them is a real gut wrencher :-(
@@thebossoftheswamp 1 of the best dogs I had was Wolfrum Weber, his daddy was my dog Lothar, and a pitbull, Diana, who I rescued and went into heat. Wolfie was raised with uncle Heinrich, a German short-haired pointer and aunt Brunnhilde, an american black and tan coon hound. He followed them and soaked up what they did, I didn't have to do much formal training with him, Heinrich was the son of a state champion and taught Wolfie to go on point, a half newfoundland chow, half pitbull, got it and they would swim in the Misssissippi, Missouri and any body of water I let them. 14 and a half years was not enough time with Wolfie, and I have 2 of his sons.
There is something soothing about that life style. Thanks for sharing

I have been marathon watching your videos...just love your philosophies...they remind me of those I was raised with..and are getting hard to find these days (my dad used to tell me "they don't make 1922 models like me anymore")....and your love of nature...well, rather than head for the hills, I decided to bring Mother Nature to me...and building a food forest in my backyard...but it's your videos of Frankie that really get to me...especially the one where a kind subscriber sent you a box of tennis balls that got me busy digging through old photos of my German Shepherd, Karaman...I miss him.
People wonder why I did what I did to my back yard...why I want to attract all the wildlife into my yard...and have the "yard work" that I now have...I know that you need not watch my video as you already know and experience what Mother Nature offers and our role in honoring it...but I share in thanks to you of your great channel and videos.
