Q: How do you have internet at your cabins? A: I have cell service at both cabins but it is spotty due to foliage and cloud cover. I can access the internet from my cabins but have to drive to a local wifi location to upload videos.
Q: How old is Frankie? A: Frankie will be 10 in April of 2018
Q: What video editing software do I use? A: Presently, all I use is Windows Live Movie maker but I’m considering trying imovie, Adobe Elements or SONY VEGAS PRO.
Q: How do you get your water? Did you dig a well? A: Presently, I haul water to the NY cabin but at the NH cabin, I drop a kettle into an old well that was dug by hand by the settlers in the 1700’s.
Q:What is your favorite brand of cast iron cookware? A: I prefer using vintage cast iron. My favorites are BSR and Griswold. If I had to buy new I would buy a Lodge Brand. I plan to purchase this dutch oven in the future:
Q: What do you use for refrigeration? A: We have a small gas refrigerator that we salvaged from an old Shasta camper and a custom icebox that I built into the cabin wall. We make ice on site with a propane freezer.

Q: What do you use for cooking and heating? A: We use a Kitchen Queen 380 for cooking and heating during the winter months but we also have an antique gas stove in the cabin for when we don't need the heat from the KQ.

Hi JC, Thanks for the update video. I really got a kick out of watching Franky sitting up front in the passengers seat next to you in the SUV. LOL. He looked so well behaved and nonchalant that it was almost human like behavior. Especially, when he was sitting up and just looking around! You trained him really well. When he was helping you start the fire in the wood stove, it was pretty amazing that he understood exactly what you were asking for each time (even the matches). Such a smart dog! Frankie's intelligence is so humanlike it's scary. He learns my routines very fast and I swear he can read minds. Sometimes he actually appears that he's trying to talk and his vocalizations are very close to actual words. I wish I could keep a camera on him 24/7.

Little late watching but I loved the video and especially the doe running in the woods. I been watching a 8 point buck in my backyard. Frankie is no dummy that's for sure he is one happy dog and such a good helper..You have worked really hard and you and yours deserve to enjoy life because it passes by too fast!! Thanks for sharing some of your cabin time, it was most enjoyable. Your approach to teaching Frankie is good brain development approach. Same thing works with people, we learn from experience and reputation. We respond better to understanding and kindness. Fear is a terrible long term teacher. Looking forward more time at the cabin, it is a wonderful way to live vicariously.

I just learned what I do wrong when trying to start a fire. As soon as the winds slow down (I live near the ocean) I will take my little stove outside and practice. Give Frankie a hug that I wish I could. Stay safe.

I really enjoy all your video, I watch them over and over can not get enough. You make more sense than any teacher, why because you lived it. Its the way you always wanted to be. I love my small home in the woods and I too love dropping an cutting up my own trees. At 80 yrs I have to be careful, but the joy I get living here, thanking my God every day for what I have is a joy, I believe with him I have every thing ...with out him I have nothing..I too have a wood stove. And Love cooking on it. So thank you for all your work doing what you love. Thanks boss

You're doing more at 80 than a lot of folks now a days are doing at 18. My hats off to you friend. What part of the country are you in?
I live in Oregon, where I live I have family of black bear have never bather me cougars, bobcats, form 7 to 11 deer every day lots of baby's born here they know they are safe. I set on my porch with my small dog, she watch them as they walk by. When ever I make apple pie I save the peelings for them, they come running when I say apples. I love my home, my home sets way back off the road, nerve see any one just me and my pal, that's the way I want it. I thank my Lord for all the blessing he has given me. I am not rich with money just rich with the love of my God. My loves are my God, my Country, and my Flag an my little dog. Its been good talking to you my friend..Love all your videos an Thanks an God Bless P.S. I still drive.

Frankie is the most awesome dog ever. Reminds me of my old border collie. She was mostly black with a white patch on her eye and white "boots". Smartest dog I ever had. I miss her greatly. Lots of good memories with that dog.
Love the video. it seems like you are going to enjoy your cabin this winter. I've been down and out with a total knee replacement. Lord has blessed with cool weather so far, but when cold hits I'll be ready, knee and new wood burning stove.

I can so see you taking up pottery! What a perfect craft and possible business to have from the cabin. I have a mug that was made by a local artisan that I've used for many years on a daily basis. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Sure gives me a lift to see Frankie again. What a sweet and intelligent companion he is. He obviously adores you and wants to please more than anything. I think his need to please you along with your patient way of teaching is a winning combination. Hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving. :)
What I like about pottery is the earthy simplicity of working with your hands and clay. One of these days I'll take up the hobby

instant gratification is the way we have programed our lived now, instant grits, instant potatoes, drive thru windows, all things I stay away from as much as possible. I couldn't learn to draw trees without concentrating on drawing them over and over. same with my calligraphy and learning to walk, on your butt, you push up and learn balance and poof. People have gotten so far away from the basics... we heard the police in New York are taking classes to de escalate like they were taught long ago, instead of aggrevations first. Love it. OMG... In those early years at my first cabin, I was so broke that sometimes I didn't even has gas for my chainsaw. I ate a LOT of critters and rice. Just about every damn critter out there too haha. I love looking back on those days :-)))

Interesting to hear you mention an interest in wood carving. I got into it about a year ago after watching Paul Sellers sharpen some chisels (sharp chisels and gouges are the secret to pleasurable carving) and then carve a spoon. I tried it and fell in love. I then found Mary May who has greatly inspired me. I have found my niche in relief carving. And now my next few vids will cover building my chisel box and doing my first "keeper" carving on it. I'm constantly intrigued at how we enjoy a similar path in life. Probably why I eagerly await each new episode you put out.

I believe you are correct about where you live and animals not bothering your garden. As I mentioned in an earlier message I live in the middle of the woods, have been here almost thirty years. Knock on wood the animals don't touch my garden. I don't have it fenced or anything like that it's a small garden, but large enough for me. Love playing catch up on your videos. I don't know many you've posted so far I observed about 25 of them all very interesting and educational. Thanks, Boss and you too Frankie (sure do miss my dog)
I do believe the reason my garden is never bothered is because the critters have plenty of natural food around. In the city, the garden is a target for them.

J C Raku is a simple version of glazing pottery , all you need is wet sawdust preferably of the hardwood variety , to heat up your clay pottery using a blow torch and bury it in the wet sawdust . have fun and enjoy the process,
