Howdy Boss! I am 70 years old and all of my hunting/camping/survival gear is less than $1,000.00 dollars and most of it over 30 years old. I was raised in a home where there was not a lot of money so we made things, bought them used and fixed things to as good as new or better. Recently an individual was looking at my gear and said, "this stuff is ancient". I laughed and told him, "when you buy good stuff (not expensive name brand) and take care of it, you only have to buy it once! He then proceeded, in conversation, began expressing his worries about meat prices and asked, "what are we going to do"? I chuckled and told him we will have to do what I did growing up. We hunted for almost all of our meat (fish, snapping turtles, squirrels, turkey, dove, ground hogs, possums, deer etc.) Ground hogs and possums?! he yelled. I said yeah, it's good eating. Well, he said, I think I would rather starve and I said, you probably will. Boss, we live in a narcissistic soy boy society where people are more concerned with how they look and how they will be seen by their digital so-called friends and who will notice their name brand crap. GOD help them Boss, they sure won't be able to!
Watching your cabin videos back in 2016 inspired me to quit the best paying job I ever had, sell my house and move from CT to NH. Your words hit me like a cement truck and helped me realize my dreams of living simply. I've been loving the new land I have, my home, my abilities to cut my own trees, harvest my own venison, grow my own veggies. The many changes that have come to my life since 2016 Boss, I owe to you. Would love to shake your hand one day. Thank you sir.
You're the only homestead channel I have watched for the last 10 years all the other ones are jokes. I've learned a lot of stuff off you. Bubble wrap rolls!!! Keep up the good work old man. I'm same age as you.
My mom taught me to eat anything that she put on the table but these rotten spoiled people don’t know how to survive if they lose power, they lose their minds I love your show keep up the good work and God bless.😊
Thanks for sharing Boss! I felt the same way shooting trap at my local Rod & Gun Club. I was shooting a Remington 870 or 1100, while my "competitors" were shooting $15,000-$20,000 Krieghoffs and Perazzi shotguns with limited success. As an old timer told me years ago, "It's not the price of the gun, it's practice, practice, practice." Take Care Boss and Laurie
Thank you, Boss, for making me forget about the world today. Much needed! Also, I love it every time I see that lovely, old tin cracker box. It instantly transports me through time when I was a kid. I pinched my finger on that thing once back then slipping the lid back on. I love that cabin.
I’d say you definitely got your money’s worth from those boots 🙂 Your meatloaf looked wonderful! All the natural woodwork in your cabin is beautiful. Congratulations on your harvest, and have a Blessed Thanksgiving!
I live in Massachusetts so I can say "venison is wicked pissa"! I think to each his own for preparation. I don't recoil watching you butcher a deer. It's great that you know how to do it. Always great to see you Boss.
Due to my circumstances I live my life in Walmart fashion Your videos have helped me to understand myself I realize now that the people who call me a redneck or hillbilly probably resent me because I’m self sufficient and not reliant upon others to get by Peace ☮️ to you brother
Bossman... I still love that little cabin! If it were anywhere in Idaho, I'd meet your price! Seeing how you built it over the years makes it more special. From the little ghost in the cabinet door, branch handles, board and batten siding, to the composting toilet. The quiet solitude it offers makes life all the more pleasant. Its satisfaction is yours, and well earned my friend!
Living self-sufficient is a pipedream for the vast majority of people on this planet. Don't let the criticism get you down, it's just people don't really have a clue how things work anymore
Watching you and a few others, I got the courage to do the same. Now, we are done with the basement and the shell of the house. We are going to do the inside. Just in time for the harsh winter that is going right now. We are living in a camper... Thanks, boss! Stai strong healthy and happy!
People have become so disconnected from their food. If it doesn’t come wrapped on a styrofoam tray they won’t even consider it. Too bad for them because there is nothing more satisfying than to enjoy a nice venison steak you harvested yourself! Good eats!!
Really cool footage of the birds on that carcass! Thanks for sharing. I’m a retired conservation officer if 30 years and would never have suspected those birds would have tolerated each other like that. I always say wildlife will humble you every time if you proclaim your expertise! 😂 God bless!
I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it myself. The hawk was on it first and let all those others share in it. It goes against the grain of everything I ever thought I knew about hawks.
Bought a pair of sears diehard crepe soled work boots about 15 years ago on a whim- still have them - they’ve just about given up the ghost but they served me well for a long time. It’s great when you get something of great values like that - When you and Lori do a dump show and tell - those vids are always some of my favorites
Congratulations on the 2 deer! My daughter and i are watching this video at my off grid hunting cabin in the southern tier of NY on the night before opening day of the regular season. Keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow I only got 1 deer this bow season ( 7 pt with a homemade longbow ) hoping between the two of us we can put some more meat in the freezer. Can't wait for your solar video I'm still in the process of expanding my system.
Hey, southern tier here too. Had a cabin in prattsburgh and land in Cohocton. In Bristol now. I was hunting with my son. That's what it's all about. Passing in tradition and memories. Where you from?
Old school video with the Boss. Thank you sir, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Your wisdom is priceless to me. Thanks for sharing. May you, Lori and all those dear to you, have a wonderful Thanksgiving, with plenty of your favorite foods, traditions and love. Be well my friend.
I enjoyed the story about your boots. When I was in my early 20's, around '78 I think, I bought my first pair of $100 running shoes. At the time that was a very high price for sneakers. I'd been buying my own clothes since I started delivering newspapers when I was 12 so I'd always gotten inexpensive shoes before. I was anticipating the special joy and exceptional service I would get from those $100 New Balance shoes. I did take better care of them than any shoes I'd previously owned. Never let them get wet or dirty. I didn't wear them as my daily shoes, mostly just for running and going to the gym. They started coming unstitched within the first month and they were ready for the trash within 6 weeks. I did go back to the sneaker boutique where I'd bought them and wasn't surprised when the clerk told me: "tough luck, your fault." I did feel like I'd been swindled however. I went straight to KMart and bought a new pair of sneakers for under $10. The cheap sneakers were at least as comfortable as the NB shoes. I made no effort to treat them gently, I used them for running, got them muddy and even waded in them while fishing. The cheap KMart sneakers gave me excellent service for just short of a year. My expectations had been low but in the end I felt like I got way more than I'd paid for. I don't mind paying for honest quality but I can't tolerate paying a high price for a turd !!! When bargain priced purchases don't perform well it doesn't bother me; when the cheap stuff exceeds my expectations (which happens more often than not) I feel like I've either been lucky or wise. Thanks for the video !!!
Certain boots like the Lacrosse Ice Kings are worth the money but most are not. The cheap Brahma's I showed here would most likely fall apart if I wore them regularly as work boots but that's not what I bought them for. 20 years for 20 bucks. I'm good with that :-))
In 2014 my wife and I bought a big 27 foot bumper pull camper that had a oven in it. I haven't used my Coleman oven since. We used it for rolls, pizza, and casseroles. I am going to use it this weekend to cook some biscuits or rolls. I just need to find it first🤣!
Great video! Thanks for the tour of the cabin! You sir, are an incredible craftsman! I loved the clips at the end of the hawk and the ravens. How interesting! I wish you and Lori a wonderful Thanksgiving!!
I love it JC..... it's all Mother Nature. That was a healthy buck bro. And that Meatloaf had me drooling LOL. It's always a pleasure to see you boss! Till next time..... may God bless you all.....
Loved the tour Jc- as much as I love the old homestead I’ve got to say I still like this cabin more. There is just something about it - small and quaint with lots of charm!!!! You did one hell of a job on that cabin. Lots of Frankie memories there as well.
Same thing I was thinking when seeing the cabin's insides... I sure do miss good ol Frankie in his videos. The ending always puts a lump in my throat...
The deer you harvested did not know it was going to die. It had a good life. The animals we get from the grocery store have led a horrendous life and they know fear at the butcher. For me the faster you process your deer the better.
I ALWAYS Love watching your respectful Loving VLOGS. I watch everyone I get. My favorite is Frankie and the BOSS. PERFECT. You are so right about how out of touch people are and so easily offended by all kinds of stupid things. The problem is our media and educational system. They teach people to be that way.
"If America could be, once again, a nation of self-reliant farmers, craftsmen, hunters, ranchers, and artists, then the rich would have little power to dominate others. Neither to serve nor to rule: That was the American dream." - Edward Abbey Thank you Bossman!
We just made a HUGE batch of venison jerky here at our homestead. Freshly harvested. I eat it all the time out in the woods. Especially backpacking trips. I will live off homemade jerky for days. I know exactly where it came from. 😏
Meat you got yourself is always better. Hey, I noticed when you were skinning that deer there were some nicks in the meat. To prevent that, my uncle taught me to use a dull knife to cut the hide off the meat when skinning. He had a bundle of different knives for butchering. Thanks for all the great videos trough the years!
Old Woods Kickers Are Hanging On Great ! Glad Ya Had A Great Harvest Boss ! Great Looking Meat Loaf ! Loved Seeing The Feathers Having A Good Feed ! Thanks For This Friends ! Prayers For All There On Your Homestead ! ATB T God Bless
Hey Boss, I knew a guy who was a big fisherman. He had a new truck, new boat and all new fishing equipment. So someone asked him if he caught more fish with all that new stuff. He said no, but I’m the best looking guy out there.
One does not always have to spend a lot of money on items , it's silly. You and Lorie are living a fine life nice and simple & your alway's whipping up some mighty tasty looking meals makes me hungry. Cabin look's so comfy cozy you did a great job. What a deal on that pork you dont see that where I live cost an arm and leg. OMG that was a funny sceen with those birds lol. Great video Boss loved as always .
Happy Thanksgiving! I especially liked the video of the birds feeding. Thank you for your honesty around shooting and processing meat for your family - keeping it real. I appreciate that.
Hello, nice buck! I had a funny experience a week ago. Cutting firewood on a solid overcast day I was splitting by hand and heard a lower than normal jet flying circles overhead. Too cloudy to see it I went about my day. Next day rain so I went through more of your catalog of videos and saw the tanker aircraft doing circles above you. Hmmm I said. I’ll be more attentive to the sky in the future. Thanks again.
Love this! You always give me good ideas and make me feel at ease with the simpler lifestyle. I need to do so much more of the simple stuff, always much more enjoyment and a sense of peace. Thanks for sharing it with us.
My son is very fortunate He has access to a walk in cooler And can hang the skinned carcass usually 2-3 weeks That venison is amazing!! We did what you do before the cooler God Bless!👍🇺🇸🙏
Great video Boss ,I am with ya on cleaning up the deer right away meat has always been great here to .Love the old shots thank you and big hugs from MN
Ill always appreciate your videos on you processing deer in the past, very informative, detailed (as much as i would be able to anyways) and you showed such care and respect for your harvest. All the best.
Love all the woodworking in the cabin JC. As far as hanging and aging deer, I don’t have time for that, harvest and process. Funny thing. Couple days ago I watched Dick Proenneke for the 60th time. Keep being you JC. God Bless from Northern Minnesota.
Just bought some property and planned a cabin to be built in June. I'm learning much from your videos and really appreciate the positive messages. Thank you for sharing your life with strangers :)
Thanks for the video, JC. I started with you looong time ago with this type vids..great memories...I love these style vids of yours...keep-em coming. Thanks buddy.
Another very enjoyable video JC. Nice buck also. I don’t hang my deer, cut it up and pack it in ice in 150 Igloo. Drain the water everyday and fill it back with ice, repeat process for 5 days. Understand and agree with you on buying over priced items( remember I said Igloo). Take care and see y’all on next one. Happy Thanksgivings and God bless to you and Lori along with the Boss family.
Great to see another video there eh! Just tagged out here in New Brunswick butchered, bottled and grinded everything up, even roasted the bones and made broth... thanks for sharing
Really enjoyed this vlog BUT favorite was the end with the red tailed hawk, ravens and turkey vulture spreading out those wings but still having to leave. Information on ground venison with pork was very informative. Thanks JC - this was a wicked good video!
Great stuff as always bud. Been away for awhile but couldn't stay away. Made venison meatloaf tonight Haha. I use stove top dressing in mine. Simple and quick. Great to see the ole cabin and the boss. I have allot of great memories following the build 😂Many thanks as always 10:57
Again you’re humor is greatly appreciated! I love the cabin. I remembered it, down to the rocking chair and shed cabinet handles! I haven’t had the opportunity to have deer meat since I was in my twenties. I really miss having it. Congratulations on the deer meat.
Y’all have a beautiful home. I grew up with just electric off the grid growing up in the mountains of West Virginia. We did it before it was cool and we didn’t have a choice lol. Nothing like walking outside to the outside when it’s 10 degrees lol
@@thebossoftheswamp hell yeah. That’s what our toilet was used for. I’m 47 but I got injured so that messed up my life. I loved using wood from my woods to beat the house for free. I still love the woods but it’s just not the same. I really love seeing Frankie at the end with the music. Love it
Boss, I have a friend I helped out in the mornings selling live bait . He owned a tackle shop. I was able to buy what ever I wanted at cost . The high end equipment was 100% mark up. I did buy some top of the line equipment, still using today 20yrs later . He told me the 39.95 combos could keep the doors open. And I believe him, the sales people always use you to the more expensive stuff, it’s not that there bad people. It the sign of the times. Being in business of any kind is no walk in the park , Amazon or Walmart are always one step behind. For us guys it’s about freedom and a day in the woods. I can’t believe the cost of a good pair of leather boots. Maybe 500.00.
We took 2 steers off to the butcher this week and met a woman there who had brought in a deer and she was all excited. However she thought we should take the steers home and keep them as pets! Takes all kinds I guess.
What a great video! That cabin brought back memories of the past videos you made. Isn't the cabin where you made that Christmas video with Frankie? That was so dang cool! For those who can't deal with reality, they'll be sorry "should" infrastructure fail. Always learn to hunt and how to dress out a kill.

Watching your cabin videos back in 2016 inspired me to quit the best paying job I ever had, sell my house and move from CT to NH.

That little cabin is pretty sweet and the yard offers a beautiful setting. I wish it wasn't 300 miles away from where I live now.
Grew up on venison. Taught my dtr and grandchildren how to process a deer and chickens. I am one of 12 girls, we grew up in the woods

That's a really nice looking cabin. You should write a cookbook. Thank you for taking time to film, edit and post this video.

Hey Boss, I knew a guy who was a big fisherman. He had a new truck, new boat and all new fishing equipment. So someone asked him if he caught more fish with all that new stuff. He said no, but I’m the best looking guy out there.
Great video Boss, thanks for sharing with us. Your living the dream !! Take Care Brother
Thank you :-)
One does not always have to spend a lot of money on items , it's silly.
Thank you and the same to you Peggy.
Glad you enjoyed it Roger :-)
My son is very fortunate He has access to a walk in cooler And can hang the skinned carcass usually 2-3 weeks That venison is amazing!! We did what you do before the cooler God Bless!👍🇺🇸🙏

This sweet cabin is where I started watching you and Frankie, Happy Thanksgiving to you and Lori!
Ill always appreciate your videos on you processing deer in the past, very informative, detailed (as much as i would be able to anyways) and you showed such care and respect for your harvest. All the best.
Thank you for your comment.
Thanks for sharing and bringing back some great memories of the New York cabin.
Love all the woodworking in the cabin JC.
As far as hanging and aging deer, I don’t have time for that, harvest and process.
Funny thing. Couple days ago I watched Dick Proenneke for the 60th time.
Keep being you JC.
God Bless from Northern Minnesota.
Thank you and God Bless :;-)
Glad to see that beautiful cabin again !!!! Love the ghost on the cabinet door !!!!👻👻👻
I enjoy your adventures living there
Just bought some property and planned a cabin to be built in June. I'm learning much from your videos and really appreciate the positive messages. Thank you for sharing your life with strangers :)
Glad you find my ramblings beneficial. Good luck with your project.
Love it ! I love this life as well. So quiet and peaceful! Thanks for sharing!
Been away for far too long. Really glad to see that you are well. Gonna get back to following more often. Thank you for what you do.
Welcome back -)
Thanks for the video, JC. I started with you looong time ago with this type vids..great memories...I love these style vids of yours...keep-em coming. Thanks buddy.
Thank you for saying so Mike. I appreciate it.
I love the "You should's" Excellent short video Boss, thanks.
Living the dream, I should say; Living your dream. Enjoy your journey Guys. Still love the Laurie " Off Grid Living".
Happy Thanksgiving :-))
beautiful cabin, great meals and God's grocery store. Love it and commend you for the years of hard work. I hope we can get there some day.
Amen to "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
Great vid man thanks
Great to see another video there eh! Just tagged out here in New Brunswick butchered, bottled and grinded everything up, even roasted the bones and made broth... thanks for sharing
Really enjoyed this vlog BUT favorite was the end with the red tailed hawk, ravens and turkey vulture spreading out those wings but still having to leave. Information on ground venison with pork was very informative. Thanks JC - this was a wicked good video!
Glad you enjoyed it -))
Nice size buck JC! Made me hungry just looking at it, right after the meat loaf! Great video once again! Enjoy your hard work!
Thank you :-)
Good evening from NL, Canada. Been watching and enjoying your videos since the beginning.
Good morning :-)
Have a happy thanksgiving boss and his lady!
Thank you! You too!
The only thing missing was franky digging in the beer cooler.
Glad you didn’t sell that place.
Good to see you in the comments list again -)
I got three years out of my last pair of steel toes. I was so happy
Again you’re humor is greatly appreciated! I love the cabin. I remembered it, down to the rocking chair and shed cabinet handles! I haven’t had the opportunity to have deer meat since I was in my twenties. I really miss having it. Congratulations on the deer meat.
Thank you -))
Y’all have a beautiful home. I grew up with just electric off the grid growing up in the mountains of West Virginia. We did it before it was cool and we didn’t have a choice lol. Nothing like walking outside to the outside when it’s 10 degrees lol
I've been using an outhouse since 1984 and still at it. The toilet in the cabin is just a boxed in pisspot :-)
@@thebossoftheswamp hell yeah. That’s what our toilet was used for. I’m 47 but I got injured so that messed up my life. I loved using wood from my woods to beat the house for free. I still love the woods but it’s just not the same. I really love seeing Frankie at the end with the music. Love it
Boss,
I have a friend I helped out in the mornings selling live bait .
Some items are worth the money and some aren't. It's trial error.
We took 2 steers off to the butcher this week and met a woman there who had brought in a deer and she was all excited. However she thought we should take the steers home and keep them as pets! Takes all kinds I guess.
I still remember when you were doing all the cabinets. Loved this story.
Nice update. Supper looked great! Thanks for the cabin tour 😊 God Bless!
God Bless :-)
Watching you for years now. Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching!
Nice deer, enjoy the many meals you will get from this deer. Enjoy the Back straps. I’m looking forward to the NY firearms season opening.
Yes we made several Christmas videos there. Lots of Frankie memories in that cabin.
Another great video, always a pleasure to get an update. LOVE your commentary with the wildlife!!
Thank you ;-)
Nice buck boss glad the season is going well for you no better meat than wild game
Thank you :-)
Beautiful deer my friend, some good health and delicious meat for sure, no deer in labrador where I live but moose is always in my freezer
