  • In this video I break down the OEM jet pump assembly on a 2006 Sportster 215hp model vs an SBT preassembled replacement. This gets pretty in depth on the differences of material, build quality, impeller shaft differences, and anything else you may want to ask about it. So far I’ve had really good results with the SBT replacement, and hope to have many more!

We didn't get much time with the SBT pump. We had them fail as soon as a month. What we do is remove the China inners (shaft, bearing & seals) and replace with OEM. Works great and still cheaper. BTW, Love the videos! Thank you!

That comment about the impellers is awesome! I wish i wouldve known this before rebuilding my pump with the new impeller last season. After buttoning everything down, i had some thrust play on the impeller and just the other day i noticed the pump was shot. Time do do it right!

I can share some first-hand knowledge as I have an 03 Sportster that has a SBT pump in it.
Regarding the quality of bearings and everything, I ride in saltwater a lot and I think the quality is a non-issue eventually saltwater is going to get past those seals and it usually ruins the shaft before the bearings go bad so while they are Chinese bearings I don't think it's a big deal.
Secondly if you use the SBT wear ring in their pump you can use the freezer trick, I do it all the time and it's super easy!
Third, yes you need a shop press and the special tools to rebuild the pump correctly.

I just comment on another video that you have about my shaft spinng on impeller and damaging splines. I got this sbt pump with stainless steel wear ring that i’ve upgraded along with solas prop and noticed after like 30 hours of using this sbt pump when flushing my jet ski from salt water ride engine stops suddenly, i check my pump and bearing were loose i tighten the bearing and works but when i go over 60mph it seems like it stops spinning and shaft eats splines on props. Any ideas? Or this sbt pumps are not really good for seadoos 300

Sounds like your bearing is going out.

Yes i still have my old oem pump and just bought new bearing, shaft oil seals, nut and all necessary elements to bring it back to life i believe nothing beats oem stuffs.

is the SBT aluminum? do you have the part #? I thought they were plastic housings.

It is aluminum. There are certain jet pump housings that are plastic but so were their OEM counterparts.

Have you seen jet pumps come in metal and plastic for the same jet ski?
That's what I'm wondering about, the housing material. My 2007 Seadoo GTI 155 pump housing is made out of plastic. I'm replacing the whole thing and I notice many of the replacements I find have a metal housing. It makes me question if it's the right part, the algorithms say "yes it fits".
Coming from working on vehicles, it's unusual to see parts come made of completely different material.

My new sbt pump for a 2008 Speedster 150 lasted the first full throttle run and exactly 9 hrs. Ridiculous ...bought a used 2004 pump and been fine since. Never again!!!!!
