@@SaltyDogPerformance you are single handedly answer all my maintenance questions. I have a strong automotive background but I’m fairly new to the PWC world and I like to do all the work on my own toys. Thank you again.
@@SaltyDogPerformance as far a general maintenance I think you covered it for me. Pump rebuild, impeller and wear ring replacement, carbon seal replacement and checking the slip on the charger are all things I wanted to see. My pump bearing and carbon seal are still good but great info for down the road.
This is probably beyond what most people want to see but if ever you have a customer in need of a motor rebuild I can watch motor builds all day especially if it’s performance oriented. 😊
At first i was like "nah, ill just buy a whole new pump". Then i saw theyr $600. So i will rebuild mine. What should a rebuild kit cost? I see whole kits as cheap as $40. But id rather opt for a little more reasurance of the quality
I replaced my wear ring and impeller. At the end of your video, how easy should it spin? I have some resistance on mine so wonder if I should replace the shaft bearings.
Well you shouldn’t be doing work like this unless you have the right tools to begin with. This is one reason labor rates are high. The cost of tools to do it isn’t cheap. However, if you do it enough, the initial cost pays for itself
Hi, just dropped 2019 GTX230 off today for a service and got a call from dealer for these exact faults, bearing needing replacement and impeller splines rusted and worn. Would you expect this at 75-80hours? Great video. Thanks
Sounds like that jet pump has never been taken off in 4+ years. The minimum service interval for greasing the splines on the driveshaft is every 2 years or 200hrs. Whichever comes first. If you ride salt water, I recommend taking off the jet pump once a year and inspecting it and regreasing the splines.
Thanks, been serviced every year, including “remove, check and grease pump and wear ring, inspect impeller and wear ring”. Given dry/rusted condition of splines looks like they’ve never been greased in 75 hours. Thanks for the recommendation on saltwater.
You didn't talk about putting grease on the bearings. Do they come with grease? If you are going to clean and use the old bearings is there a particular way to grease them?
@@SaltyDogPerformance Thank you so much for that reply. The experienced ticket writer at the dealership said RPM and Speed would drop if the wear ring was worn. I have a 2022 GTR 230. I was able to hit 8,000 RPM any time the water was smooth enough to try it; in Iowa(2022), Minnesota (2022) and Florida (Feb 2023). In May 2023 I took it in for a recall (DESS Post related) and since then I have not seen 8000 RPM, it goes to 7900 then quiclky drops to 7800RPM. I think there is a chance they flashed the computer or the DESS key post replacement caused the RPM drop.
@SaltyDogPerformance ok understand, and thanks for the informative videos. Do you know the part number or the size of the impeller removal tool? For a 2018 gtx 230? Thanks in advance.
@@SaltyDogPerformance i want to say a samsung but it's tough because my dryer is an LG and it sings to me, too. haha. i heard it at around 18 minutes i think when i was at work. love your video, i wasn't trying to be an ass earlier.
The press was $150 when I bought it plus maybe $100 for the OEM tools. After 2 jet pump rebuilds you have already saved money by not having to take it to the dealer. Especially since dealers charge $150hr for labor these days.
@@andyholinka3107 "Anyone with $250 to burn can do this". What's the alternative? Buy a new aftermarket jet pump for $500, or a new OEM jet pump for over $1000? Or bring it to the dealer for them to do a jet pump rebuild for $600? If you can't afford $250 to rebuild a jet pump, then PWC's are absolutely not a hobby for you, that's on the cheap end.
Appreciate the video man. We just rebuilt a 2018 RXTX pump for first time and your step by step instruction sure made it a success. I fought my 2019 trying to remove and install wear ring but the torch and the dead blow technique worked great. Thanks again bro!

Great video. Where did you get Impeller shaft tools to press in and out? I have hard time finding it. Thanks
Thank you bro, can you say where you get the correct torque to use in bolts?
Hey quick question have you experienced shaft splines spinning free on impellers due to bad pump?

I just purchased everything to rebuild mine. All oem parts like he had is about $400 bucks. More if you don't have the press of the bearing tools
Do you think an arbor press can do the job? Thanks for the video.
How do you determine how far you press in those 2 oil seals?
I replaced my wear ring and impeller. At the end of your video, how easy should it spin? I have some resistance on mine so wonder if I should replace the shaft bearings.
Is there any noise like metal on metal when you turn the impeller?
@@SaltyDogPerformance nope.
I'm rebuilding my pump. and was wondering where I can buy the bearing/shaft removal tools. I want to order the right ones.
You can order them from a dealer. I use Riva for almost all my OEM part needs.
Easy with the right tools

Like, having the pressing machine.

New bearings are pre greased. Old bearings you just repack them. Plenty of info out there on how to repack a bearing.
@@SaltyDogPerformanceDo you know the part number for the two shaft tools you used?
Great job on your video A++. If the wear ring is getting worn will the RPM drop on the engine? I know speed will drop, but what about RPM?
RPM will not drop.

The RPMs will actually increase for the same given speed with a worn wear ring.
@@billy-bo-dilly that makes sense to me... I'm kinda skeptical of what dealerships tell me sometimes 🤔
