@@jacktheripper4731 instead of a Remake. just a High Quality remaster with 4k support, some new moves and better combo flow and better controls will work wonders.
100% agree with you, i like Rising a whole lot more then Solid. Did i care for story? No mainly because i knew it wasn't meant to be taken to seriously
actually it is meant to be taken seriously...i guess it depends on the perspective...i like both Solid and Rising and both of them have stuff that relate to each other...if you follow the Solid story in dept :)...anyway this is not denial that the series is amazing and we want more
not only was grey fox first, but he was way better at it, mostly thanks to his sword, which despite being one of the oldest High Frequency swords out there, it's still ridiculously overpowered, slicing people effortlessly.
+Keir Armstrong yea...but you know...Konimia is kinda shit now, so we're probably never ganna get a sequal. Now if they wanna make a spritaul sequal, new game new story, new characters and world, same awesome music and gameplay polished to be better, and longer i'd throw money at it in a heart beat
Sad part is, metal gear:survive was supposed to be a DLC for MGS V like how red dead redemption had its undead nightmare dlc, but kojima left konami before it could be done.
The fun part of cutting people was that you can cut certain limbs off, and they can say all sorts of funny things. Had one guy lost all 3 of his limbs, limping on his last one, and he said "I got another!".
What I love about this game is that when Jack first appeared in the series, he was a bit of a whiny dork. And now... NOW HE'S ONE OF THE MOST BADASS CHARACTERS IN METAL GEAR!
@@Midnight_Lantern Agreed. People are too hard on Raiden because he wasn't Solid Snake. But he was, and still is, a great character with a lot of depth and development.
@@rinraiden ...hear me out A MGS game similar to revengence, BUT with grey fox as the main character. Set either during his NULL days or before MGS, whilst he was still cyborg ninja
This is exactly when I fell in love with it too while I was playing. When the music started.... when I was able to actually block that giant sword?!?!? I was like... Best game.
Gotta be honest: MGR:R has the most engaging first level of any game I have ever played. I could not stop shouting "ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS!?" throughout the entire Ray battle, because that shit is completely insane. It actually was kinda disappointing that the rest of the game couldn't quite match that Ray battle, at least in my opinion.
True, so why we can`t get like these games anymore. I remember we had a lot like 6-8 years ago, but it was a lot of consoles exclusives, now games companies spaming a lot of classic rpg, indie, fantasy rpg games, with no badass combat, just some really slow combat system. No hate, but I don`t like skyrim or GTA, couse I don`t experience badass combat, hacking and slashing enemies...still I stoping playing video games, couse nobody understand me, that I love hack and Slash action adventure games, not classic rpg :(((
One of the best game soundtracks, boss fights, gameplay and just overall gameplay of the last decade. *The soundtracks made everyone harden in response to musical trauma.*
+Marc Mattaliano Except Metal Gear Revengance is actually game while Asura's Wrath is a movie with you passively pushing buttons that hardly effect much.
holdingdegree9 Ahh yes, please push that tired misconception that a "game" requires you to CONSTANTLY push buttons 100% of the time, and if a game doesn't require you to push buttons to the community-approved quantity, it's not really a game...
Marc Mattaliano I'd rather not get into this kind of debate but the fact is you compared to games that aren't anything alike. Asura's Wrath barely gives the player a chance to actually fight and when they do it's lame repetitive combat that's just for show until you can build up the "cutscene meter". Revengance is mostly action with the player almost always in full control with QTE's usually only happening to finish off bosses. There is a big difference in gameplay. Hence why it Asura's Wrath was rated lower and making your comparison not make any sense. If you are talking about the over the top nature sure I can see that but otherwise nope.
+Marc Mattaliano Dude, I LOVE Asura's Wrath. It's seriously one of my favorite gaming experiences ever. It's awesome. However, are we really gonna sit here and act like the game play side of it wasn't weak and basic? That's just delusional. Do you need to constantly push buttons to be a game? No, but MOST of Asura's Wrath was spent watching and not pressing anything at all. Which is fine, as an experience, but you can't really compare it to a normal game. That's silly. Also, when you were actually playing Asura's Wrath, the game play was barely serviceable. It was generic, weak, and repetitive. Seriously, if they made a whole game out of the sections of Asura's Wrath that you play, that game would be shit. This is all undeniable, unless you are lying to yourself or have shit taste. But again, I LOVED Asura's Wrath. As an experience, it was great. If they made more games like it, I'd buy it immediately. but if you are going to argue the merits of its game play, or try to compare it to other games, you'll full of crap.
after replaying the game, i can attest that those "combat flaws" are actually done on purpose, its meant for you to feel overpowered on lower dificulty, but if you do want the challenge, it can be absurdly fun at the higher modes. the parry, was that way, sos you could do them, at any time, and actually manage to get that s ranking. you are not meant to "trade blows", the fact that you can, is meant as a lower entry floor. so you can get acostumed to the combat. also, the move set, is incredibly deep, yes, you have a short list of moves to buy, but thats because raiden starts with an already large moveset.
Now this game.....THIS GAME! is one that deserves to remade with all the DLC and updated graphics instead of most of the shit they're remaking that no one asked for! I would gladly buy this again...but I know the chances of that happening are incredibly slim =/
Why does any game these days need a remake? The Last of Us was still relatively new when it was "remade". So was GTA V. I'm not saying this game needs one anyway. I'm just saying if any game deserved to warrant a remake for any reason, that this would be one.
i mean kinda this game is actually after metal gear 4 but considering the game is barely even metal gear i can say you can play without playing a single metal game
Yeah, dont worry about that, the story is mostly self-contained, if you like this kind of games (hack ´n slash) i´d say yes, give it a try. Tip: the Steam version includes every DLC for free, unlike the one on home consoles. EDIT: i hear that apparently the PS3 version has the downloadable content for free too.
Yes, you can! It was the first game of the Metal Gear franchise that I played and a got a TON of fun with it. Even if you don't care about the story, just being able to cut shit while listening to cool soundtrack easily justifies the cost of this game. Just try it. It's like redbull: there's no going back after you had tasted it.
One of the best parts of the songs is that in the final phases of boss fights the lyrics kick in and they all describe the boss and gives them more characterization if you can understand the high speed vocals and sometimes confusing symbolism. Mistral is a stranger to normal life and only feels at home on the battlefield Bladewolf longs to be free and control his own fate Monsoon is a rainstorm washing away the lies of higher causes and leaving the mindless destruction he believes is part of human nature Sundowner is a machine tearing apart paradise and leaving his victims bodies to be consumed by vultures, and loves every minute of it Sam no longer knows why he fights, only that it's all he knows to do, he has lost his purpose in life and wants someone to show him a reason to fight Armstrong at first pretends to be a corrupt politician seeking absolute control but reveals his true nature and regards Raiden as an equal who makes his own path just like how Armstrong does and wants all people to do The songs help you understand the characters and their motivations.
I feel like this game was meant to be longer. Like Blade Wolf you just beat him then suddenly he's your teammate with literally no transgission. If this game was longer I feel like it would be a lot better, and it might get a sequel considering it's popular enough to get one so hopefully it will be even better giving us more then what we got.
Yeah, there really is no detailed explanation as to how Wolf got on Raiden's side. All in all this game is amazing. The fact that I'm on my fourth playthrough and still not bored says something, don't you think?
First time clicking angry joe. I've got to say your pretty good at this. Not just the fun stuff, youre actually giving a comprehensive thorough review. Way better then gamespot or ign. I wish you continued success. Really a worthwhile youtuber.
As much as I loved the game, I have to agree with Joe's opinion. But of course, this was before the dlcs' came out. One think he could've mention was that the blocking, doesn't always help in every situation. Raiden can take guard damage, depending on the enemy. Still an awesome game though.
This review wasn't bad at all, but it's clearly obvious that Joe didn't play this game on very hard where there are two to three times more enemies per level and the AI will do things it never did in easier difficulties. Sometimes there are even enemies that weren't there before like how there are two bladewolves on the first level. And most people are basing their time off the final results which don't include cut scenes, continues, restarts, or deaths. The game is at least eight hours first play through. Finally, he never mentioned that parry spam exploit does NOT work on hard and up against most enemies and bosses, especially Sam. Include these overlooked details and the game deserves at least a 9.
I'm currently working my way doing No Damage bosses on Very Hard, and I can 100% stand by this. Each level has at least 50% more enemies in each area. The 1 thing I have noticed however is that bosses seem to be a lot easier. I don't remember ripping MG Ray into shreds in 3.5 minutes. Parrying seems to destroy bosses. (I have only fought both encounters with MG Ray on Very Hard so I may be wrong here.)
I'm finding that if you parry against a certain type of enemy, they'll continue swinging at you and you're forced to continue parrying him, (even when I try to perfect parry to counter attack), and when you're stuck in the never-ending loop, you can't do anything but wait for him to be out of range. And during this never-ending loop of swings, other enemies are like, "YEAH, LET'S GANG UP ON HIS ASS". I prefer that one skill that's mapped to jump+attack. Idk the name.
CynicalController God getting the No Damage bosses on Very Hard was such a bitch lol Loved every minute of it! And yeah, higher difficulties... that shit don't work lol Someone will get you from behind if you spam that. Also, you probably destroyed MG Ray because of the upgrades you had built up to that point, and your own skill improving. I destroyed Bladewolf in about a minute flat on Revengeance difficulty because I nailed him with a parry on his first attack XD Only took so long because he called reinforcements really.
8 hours,is that so? I am at the final boss battle and the menu says that it was only less than 6 hours (normal difficulty).Would love it to be longer tough,it's a great game! And about that button flaw - it is only there when you play on the console right? I am playing on PC and I didn't notice anything like that.
I came back here after finishing MGRR for PC. I've waited 9 months for this uniquely (unique as in you can cut any angle you want a.k.a. unscripted slash damage) awesome game to be ported for PC and it's well worth it.
arkhangelsk95 Yep, I'm currently trying to get all S ranks from the game on the hardest difficoulty. The game has problems with its save system when doing this.. If you get the wrong rank, you need to restart the entire chapter, because there's no way to load a saved game. There's only auto-save function. Or that's how it is on PS3 after the newest update.
Metal Gear Rising 2 was teased to be in the works. Heck it was probably supported and approved by Kojima during development! ...Konami probably cancelled it.
i think, if i remember correctly, platinum games is supposed to continue making games with kojima productions in a metal gear rising series that they're doing, because of the popularity of this game
He makes a really good point about the slicing system. It's one of the damn best. Hell even STAR WARS the force unleashed couldn't get the whole slicing thing right
3 things you need to revisit: 1) Very Hard or Revengence modes. Parrying is not broken, it's necessary. Any lower difficulty should only be used to learn the game (which is why I hate that you have to beat the game to unlock these modes) 2) Other weapons. The FOX Blade is the most badass thing ever put into a videogame (besides Gray Fox himself). 3) Other campaigns. You can play other characters too!!
Counters and dodge are more efficient than parry though. Heck, parrying attacks on Very Hard and higher can easily get your into a situation where you cannot move and will easily end up taking damage. You really want to keep on moving on higher difficoulties, rather than just stand still and block attacks.
I actually have been finishing up my first run of the Very Hard mode myself and I agree. The parry really only helps if I see an attack coming that I know I can't duck out of.in time.
Fragmonkei Unless it's a combo, because dodging a combo usually doesn't end well. After all, you cannot cancel a dodge move, so you will most likely get hit, unless you move away from the radius of the attacks. Oh and by the way, in order to get the No Damage Bonuses from the final bosses, you cannot parry any of the Excelsus' attacks, but rather dodge them. Dodge has a very small amount of invincibility frames at the start of the animation. And the Senator.. well, you need to avoid taking damage during the forced loss scenario fights. The first one is tricky since he can block your sword strikes so using dodge move can be tricky. And second form.. well, you don't really need to even move. Just time the dodge right for couple of minutes and he will pull a some sort of charge up move and the game skips to the quick time event without you taking any damage. This revelation pissed me off quite badly, especially when I had beaten the true final boss without taking any damage.
Havent played the blade wolf campaign yet but jetstream's is fucking AWFUL. Parry doesnt do shit on it (i was actually surprised i managed to stun two gekkos after a parry, considering i used like 200 times), cameras are freaking annoying (i cant beat the first goddamn boss because he just keep getting off the screen and im fucked) and finally, sam's attacks SUCK hard, heck, you can only depend on charged heavy strike to actually kill something that isn't your average soldier. I cant really believe it was a dlc for rising. Sure, rising has this problem of camera but not like jetstream's. Seriously, no wonder they gave for free. Hope blade wolf's campaign is better.
Isaac31415 Blade Wolf's campaign isn't better. And I personally like Sam's dlc. Sure, the camera is still as annoying as ever, but fixing that won't be that easy. Parry being unaffective? You mean parry counter? Parry on its own is quite useless actually, dodge and counter are the more important moves. If you've beaten Raiden's campaign on Very Hard, you should know this by now. And one more thing about camera, you can use R2 (PS3 controls) to lock on target. This is something you should learn during your first playthrough. Heck, during Sam boss fight the game automatically locks on him. You should've learned this by now. You did check the controls from the manual, right? It's an oldschool styled game, it won't tell you most of the things. And yes, Sam's fighting style is based entirely on the charged attacks. Platinum didn't want to make a similiar character to Raiden, but rather a different one. You have completely different fighting style which will time to get used to. And due to the different style, the enemies have completely different patterns because Raiden's enemy patterns are simply too easy for Sam. Not to mention that the Senator boss fight is harder in the dlc. Is it broken? No. Is it hard to learn? Somewhat if you're used to using quick attacks rather than finding the best time to use a charged attack. It's a completely different gameplay style and will take time to get used to. Oh and.. I want to ask you few things just to know how much you've learned to play the game. What is the fastest way to cancel an animation? What move doesn't reset your combo and can this move be canceled? How many three attack moves with finishers are there if not using any unique weapons? Launchers don't count as part of the move.
Angry Joe: "Many games in the past claim you're wielding a sword, hacking away at enemies, when in reality, you're just beating them with a blunt stick." Me: I think Ninja Gaiden made me feel like I was actually using a blade, slicing enemies to pieces. Granted not as satisfying as Metal Gear Rising, but I still felt like I was using an actual sword.
Mr Madness Then it would be the most BS every xD He's not coming back I'm afraid to say. Unless some people came in after the Shadow Moses incident and somehow managed to revive him. But I seriously doubt that.
+Marvel Capcom Ummm, Konami can and will make more Metal Gear games without Kojima. It's Kojima who can't make Metal Gear games without Konami, even though he was the director for the majority of them. And whether or not Metal Gear Solid games will be any good without him, the first Metal Gear Rising never had a strong input from him anyway (he was only 'supervising' director), so it shouldn't matter too much for a sequel.
+Jacob Zero do you know what the meaning of "Production" is? Kojima himself handles the storyboarding while konami handle's the resources and support for kojima. I doubt if konami makes another MG, It'll be dissapointing.
Many people don't see the other side... Kojima had 5-7 years to create MGSV fully. He made 1 and a half chapter and ate his budget alive (Note it's bigger than the other mgs). Konami is probably pissed due to that.
"It talks about some moral issues, like whether or not it's right to slash cyborg policemen into a million pieces for the greater good" Or you could just go for the non-lethal option and lop off a leg. Like I did.
well it is pretty cliche. You may still like it and thats ok, but i feel like i am in a stereotypical japanese movie. And let me tell you not everybody loves this game, i for example thought it was one of the worst major games of the year. You like it, and i'm glad you do, but there are many games people just liked more i guess
People who don't like this game are either haters or idiotic MGS fans, i myself am an MGS fan but i feel that the series has shown its age, all they are doing are making prequels and showing us more of Bigg Boss, tbh i hate Bigg Boss i liked the character when he was in Snake Eater, but he stole the main character title from Solid Snake this series desperately needed something new and fresh and Rising perfectly delivers what it needs, Platinum Games is the savior of Metal Gear, they are the only people who can save this series from destruction now.
wow very objective and grown-up, everybody who doesn't agree with you is an idiot. I was going to tell you why this game is terrible to me, but after that, i don't even have to, you pretty much showed why no one should care about your comment :) good day
Floconbob He showed much better arguments to why this game was refreshing the series. If you wanted the MGS to stay the same, maybe you don't say it in those words, but you are asking for the game to stagnate and die.
Once you get the higher tier upgrades on the weapons, you actually can very much cut things in half mid combat, without blade mode. Especially after you get the pincer blades and do a charge up attack. It's insane.
This game is one of the textbook examples of making a game so absurdly fun that nobody cares whether it has flaws. At the end of the day, the core of a game is the gameplay.
2016, that remapping still never happened, I played on medium and I always aimed the stick towards my enemy while trying to attack (unintentionally) and I rarely took damage... Which ruined the experience a little bit
Sycogenesis IMO Rules of Nature was good, but I found pretty much all the other tracks such as Red Sun, A Stranger I Remain or The Only Thing I Know For Real to be much better.
For some the short play time is a put off, but remember: this game has INSANE replay value. If it takes 5-6 hours a play through, and you play on each difficulty, you'll get over 30 hours of play time, more if you just want to do the boss battles again (which you probably will! they're the tits yo!).
Shadowof Oblivion No, I've been doing absolutely everything there is to do in the game. I've done all of the VR missions, unlocked all of the cosmetics and weapons, S ranked every fight in the game and unlocked all of the achievements.
okay but that still seems way to lengthy I would estimate the most it should take one to do that would be 25 hours but I only focused on campaign finished the game in two sittings who am I to talk.(this game could have done better
To this day this is one of my favourite angry Joe reviews, if I ever make a top 13 angry Joe review videos this is definitely high up there I probably number three angry Joe keep doing what you're doing
Boar Knight Thats not entirely true either. He said he died plenty of times on the early stages (wich I assume is 00 and 01) until he learned the controlls. But it doesn't matter, I have spent about 150 hours into this game, and I can pretty much agree that the game is short.
The difficulty should not be what makes a game longer, its content should. By this logic, you're saying that if you, say, play Far Cry 3 on the hardest difficulty, that makes the game miles better, because you had to do the same parts over and over and over, with no change, because you died too often.
The Wastelander I agree, but the problem is what content extends the gameplay? You could say collectables and such doesn't count, but this might not be the case for MGR. There are about 20 collectable VR missions, wich should extend the gameplay for about 1 or 2 hours (assuming you go for at least bronze). Does the time it takes, as well as the other collectables, add on the content? If not, does the Batman Arkham games fail to add content with the IMO awful riddler trophies? Like I said, I pretty much agree with what you said, but its hard to say what content that actually extends gameplay.
Dude, parrying is supposed to have a small window while blocking is supposed to have a wider window. It's not an exploit, it's the fucking programed mechanic.
i'm with joe about that is a short game, i enjoyed the hours that i had playing it, but i was left with me wanting more, but i happily played the DLC's but they were short too. next time on Metal Gear Rising 2 we need a larger game
I didn't mind the length of the game too, much, but I wish it was longer. I found great joy in going for the S ranks on Revengeance, but I really, really wish there was an option for turning off codec calls during gameplay off completely, as well as skipping the credits scene, wich was very annoying after completing the game after 20 or so times.
hikaruhatake1 but he didn't had that many ciborg enhancements, only its hand wich (spoiler) was taken by armstrong during the Jetstream sam DLC campaing
nope they are not the same ninjas are elite warriors while the ninja are elite in espionage but videogames turned the ninja into killing machine rambos except mark of the ninja
true. Character models are really cool but the environments are soooo dull and boring it's crazy. But the frame-rate was so smooth! On PS3 this has to be the game with the most stable 60 frames ever.
wishingW3L if they made the graphics any better the game wouldnt have run well at all considering at very rare moments of intense battle the game drops to 40 fps (thats usually only when you counter 3 people in one and then chop them into 101239471298347129834 pieces each)
art style less bland? the game takes place in sewers,Denver and an Airport, this isn't Lord of the Rings or Star Wars. The character designs are amazing.
***** The characters look good but the environments are pathetic and it isn't necessary for games to be like LoTR and Star Wars to have a good artstyle.
***** .... what. The city scape looks like a city. What on earth are you expecting? Its a concrete jungle, the buildings look amazing and are well detailed, there are cars and buses you can chop up how you want, light poles, furniture, etc etc... wtf are you talking about bland? Again, they are in real world settings, what more do you want? Have you seen the game? the settings look great, do you want this game to take place in volcanos or space or something?
@@Phoenixblue. yes, the guns were the main weapon of Bayonetta, not the hair demons you created, you could swap the guns out for other things, hell theres a Katana in Bayonetta.
Picked this one up for $30 on Steam, and after doing a bit of fixing with the framerate (1080p with vsync defaults to 24fps and you need a third party program to unlock it), I can safely say it's one of my favorite spectacle fighters EVER. Kinda sad about the lack of depth in the combat, but the sheer spectacle of the game more than makes up for it. This game has so many "HOLY FUCK THAT WAS AWESOME!" moments in it that I can't help but love it, and I'm not really bothered by short campaigns in action games, so long as the action and bosses kick enough ass to warrant it. Maybe it's because I'm a huge fan of old Capcom titles like the Mega Man and early Devil May Cry games, but a 6 hour campaign packed with high octane fun is right up my alley. I do have to say though that replay value is a huge determiner in these kinds of things. For example, a game like Mega Man X is (I know it's old as fuck) is worth full retail price to me, because I will end up playing it over and over and over. I hadn't played X since I was a kid, and after doing a playthrough about a month ago, I end up picking that game up whenever I'm bored and just wanna have fun. Seriously. I'm getting pretty clutch at that game just because I play it so much, to the point where I'm now doing a Let's Play series based completely around Mega Man (starting with X, then gonna do every Mega Man game from the original and X series in no particular order) just because I want to share my love of the blue bomber with the world. I know I got off topic, but my point is this: RPGs should almost never be shorter than like 20 hours (looking at you Peter Molyneaux), but action games should put gameplay first. I would rather a really tight experience clocking in at 4-6 hours with non stop pulse pounding action, simple enough mechanics to have depth (yes, I just said simple mechanics with depth, and that is NOT an oxymoron), and boss battles that are interesting, challenging, and memorable. When I get done with an action game, my first thought should be "I can't wait to play that again," not "well, that was fun, but now I'm going to mentally ball it up and throw it in the junk drawer." MGR:R is one of those games that stands out when you think of over the top action, and I couldn't be happier.
***** It's an issue when you have 1080p with vsync turned on. If you don't enable vsync, or you're using a native vsync on the video card, it doesn't happen. Also, it doesn't happen at any other resolution. It may not happen to EVERYONE, but I know for a fact that it has happened to THOUSANDS of people, as there are posts all over the forums of people having the same issue, and someone even created a program to fix the issue. If you didn't change any settings, you were likely playing with Vsync off, as that is the default setting. I noticed considerable tearing during cutscenes, so I turned Vsync on, after which my game was running at 24 fps (in engine). I had to download a third party program to fix the issue.
I'm running an Nvidia as well. Wouldn't be caught using an AMD GPU. AMD make good CPUs for the price, but when it comes to graphics cards, it's Nvidia or GTFO. Again, it's likely that if you didn't change settings you're either running 1080p with no vsync, or you're running 720p. It's more likely that you're running 1080p with no vsync, as I believe that's the default setting.
Yeah adaptive is really only useful for frame limiting when there is none. It doesn't help screen tearing, and can cause MAJOR issues if you don't disable any native vsync present in a game (and when I say MAJOR I mean virtually game breaking). It is, however, really useful for proving to your friends that 30fps is truly an inferior experience. Simply have them play a game that requires quick reflexes (such as Shadow of Mordor while in a big group fight), then turn on adaptive vsync half refresh rate (locking the game at 30fps) and have them play the same scenario. They should notice a HUGE difference in playability unless they're mentally deficient.
***** Yeah. In my opinion, the only time 30fps is acceptable is if it's an old school turn based JRPG (which all ran at 60fps anyway). I wouldn't mind if, say, Square Enix decided to go back to making good games with a simple menu based combat system, and they made the decision to run the game at 30fps so that the ingame engine could look like the cutscenes. There's really no gameplay to speak of. Yes, the animations would be a little janky, but hell, it's not like it would affect gameplay. I feel that if there is ANYTHING in the way of real time gameplay, then 30fps is absolutely shameful and any developer who chooses to lock their game at 30 should be run out of the industry with torches and pitchforks. But then again, I'm just some asshole who loves games. What do I know? lol
I still don't understand why people hated raiden in sons of liberty? Someone please enlighten me I've played the game but I had no problem with raiden even tho his story and romance is kinda convoluted.
I mean I heard it was because raiden wasn't snake but I thought there would be a more logical reason. Example in sons of liberty (my opinion) I hope I wasn't alone in this thought but when I was playing I felt like raiden was basically a Final Fantasy character in a game centered around betrayal, espionage, and Super Soilders with a decent story line and I have also realized that I don't have a place to say anything because I wasn't thoses guys who played the original 8 bit metal gear so I'm not into the mythos deeply so maybe im worng and I can admit that this is just my thoughts on why people didn't like him much. but if you see past these flaw you can see that Raiden is actually a well rounded character. A boy who has changed his background of bloodshed and evil to see thing from a different perspective. Raiden is an example of how just because of your past doesn't define who you are its actually the now decisions who make or break you. And Raiden even teaches people that some evil that you have learned can be used for good if applied. And in Raiden for the first time has a chance to actually feel what those feelings are like I even believe that Raiden has learned that not all failure is bad. Failure can teach you how you change your tactics or the way how you think in a way. But what do I know I'm 17 I'm still a kid who just has a different perspective on video game and anime characters. I hope you learned something and if I'm wrong in any of my words let me know I would like to have conversations with those hardcore metal gear fans who can set me straight give me your opinions of Raiden that you hate or love and it doesn't even have to be about Raiden name some Characters you like or hate and why do you feel that way. ( its funny my Uncle calls me that young theorist and I am creating a story if you want to know more check out Wattpad #bastiniaexplained)
+CHAOTIC VAMP I think he is too I just don't know why some other people think his character is a stupid choice to put in metal gear it was like when they first saw him he was stupid but In metal gear 4 he was awesome why change your opinion so quick
+Graystripe42466 Word, I wasn't really triggered by the fact that we had to play as Raiden in MGS2 nor did I think he was a bad character, we already got to experience enough of snake and it was just nice to see Raiden appear into the series and transform into the person who we know and love. All I can tell you dude is that people have their own opinions, don't be bothered by people's different opinions. If someone's hating on something I love, I just ask them why than learn to accept it and move on.
Looks like he barely played it at all. It's hard for me to imagine how a reviewer could actually finish this game and think that the parry thing is some OP exploit and not a necessary mechanic. But then I guess it just may be the "revolutionary" AJ angle "If there are those eagles why couldn't they just flown them all the way? ;Derp"
Great review, Joe! Just finished the game myself. Agree with most all of your points! Found the camera and blade mode during key moments in boss fights to be a bit unwieldy, but still a great game overall!

yup raiden vs ray is so badass

Damn, I was expecting a bad-ass seal of approval for this game.
+chaotixninja5 It is almost a cybernetic version of Asura's Wrath, isn't it? And didn't he gave that a 6/10 + Bad ass seal of approval?
+Marc Mattaliano
Dude, I LOVE Asura's Wrath.

+Mr Bewsh dude..enough with the remakes. This game came out only 2 years ago.
let's hope for a even better sequel for mgsr instead.
+Sneezy Gamer It came out like 2 years ago why would this need a remake?
Why does any game these days need a remake? The Last of Us was still relatively new when it was "remade". So was GTA V. I'm not saying this game needs one anyway. I'm just saying if any game deserved to warrant a remake for any reason, that this would be one.
Sneezy Gamer GTA V wasn't remade, it was just a port. They didn't advertise it as a remastering. It was just a port, that had some new stuff in it.
So can I play Metal Gear Rising Revengeance without ever playing a single Metal Gear game?
No
i mean kinda this game is actually after metal gear 4 but considering the game is barely even metal gear i can say you can play without playing a single metal game
Yes. But play The Phantom Pain instead because it's spectacular
Mistral is a stranger to normal life and only feels at home on the battlefield
Bladewolf longs to be free and control his own fate
Monsoon is a rainstorm washing away the lies of higher causes and leaving the mindless destruction he believes is part of human nature
Sundowner is a machine tearing apart paradise and leaving his victims bodies to be consumed by vultures, and loves every minute of it
Sam no longer knows why he fights, only that it's all he knows to do, he has lost his purpose in life and wants someone to show him a reason to fight
Armstrong at first pretends to be a corrupt politician seeking absolute control but reveals his true nature and regards Raiden as an equal who makes his own path just like how Armstrong does and wants all people to do
The songs help you understand the characters and their motivations.
I think it's best keeping Sam mysterious. It makes his death a bit sadder, not knowing much about him but being forced to fight.
They reprogrammed Blade Wolf to be Raiden's sidekick.
Djordje Gusman I get that now. I just didn't get it at first because it was glanced over.
Yeah, there really is no detailed explanation as to how Wolf got on Raiden's side. All in all this game is amazing. The fact that I'm on my fourth playthrough and still not bored says something, don't you think?
Djordje Gusman Oh truly. Apparently thet put all the expedition into the codecs so they explained Wolf there.
FaceUnreality Oh yeah. They do that just so you have to research more to understand why some things happened.

No with all of that it deserves, imo, a solid 8-8.5
8 hours,is that so? I am at the final boss battle and the menu says that it was only less than 6 hours (normal difficulty).Would love it to be longer tough,it's a great game! And about that button flaw - it is only there when you play on the console right? I am playing on PC and I didn't notice anything like that.
I came back here after finishing MGRR for PC. I've waited 9 months for this uniquely (unique as in you can cut any angle you want a.k.a. unscripted slash damage) awesome game to be ported for PC and it's well worth it.
You haven't finished it if you haven't beaten it on the hardest difficoulty. Easy - Hard are practise difficoulties.
Like Angry Joe said about this game, very high replay value.
arkhangelsk95
Yep, I'm currently trying to get all S ranks from the game on the hardest difficoulty. The game has problems with its save system when doing this.. If you get the wrong rank, you need to restart the entire chapter, because there's no way to load a saved game. There's only auto-save function. Or that's how it is on PS3 after the newest update.
I was thinking of getting it on PC but is the block button mapped to different keys?
Tap WSAD (direction the enemy is facing) and left mouse button at the same time.

MegaTech81 Well that was more about the Force powers, but yeah it was a baseball bat.
My favorite Angry Joe review Intro
3 things you need to revisit:
1) Very Hard or Revengence modes. Parrying is not broken, it's necessary. Any lower difficulty should only be used to learn the game (which is why I hate that you have to beat the game to unlock these modes)
2) Other weapons.
Fragmonkei
Unless it's a combo, because dodging a combo usually doesn't end well.
Isaac31415
Blade Wolf's campaign isn't better.
2019 and this still holds a candle as one of my favorite games ever. This was the only Metal Gear game I ever played and I still love it to this day.

Ummm, Konami can and will make more Metal Gear games without Kojima.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!
This game should be rewarded with best soundtrack of the year!! but sadly no game site has nominated it, its like they forgot about this game
well it is pretty cliche.
I was going to tell you why this game is terrible to me, but after that, i don't even have to, you pretty much showed why no one should care about your comment :) good day
If anyone hates this game then they deserve to be called an idiot, they are simply out of their minds.
Floconbob He showed much better arguments to why this game was refreshing the series. If you wanted the MGS to stay the same, maybe you don't say it in those words, but you are asking for the game to stagnate and die.
This video aged oh so well, happy 10th anniversary of this unforgettable title
Once you get the higher tier upgrades on the weapons, you actually can very much cut things in half mid combat, without blade mode. Especially after you get the pincer blades and do a charge up attack.
It's insane.
Watching this makes me even more exited for the upcoming death battle
Anyone else thinks raiden can win ? Cause I kno he can win
+Joseph Eredia that Deathbattle was so hype
+MALICEM12 it was awesome and I was pleased with the results
Joseph Eredia as was i
+Joseph Eredia those death battle things are really gay beyond cheesy
My god, the soundtrack for this game is top notch! It's the games best quality.
Also I got around 9-ish hours on my first playthrough
the funny thing is that this was intentional, because you need to block that fast, if you want to defeat monsoon
+Mediacs right
Holy shit. 2 years later and the opening "Hey little girl, stop right there!" still makes me laugh.
Horri Siel does it still make you laugh?
A fun fact is that the clock tower Raiden ran down is a direct reference to the opening sequence to BAYONETTA.
I love this review just because of 18:11
From 9 years ago? You see, everyone, Angry Joe's not a monster, he just ahead of the curb.
Damn i can never get enough of the boss battle music!!!!
RULES OF NATURE!!!!
Sycogenesis IMO Rules of Nature was good, but I found pretty much all the other tracks such as Red Sun, A Stranger I Remain or The Only Thing I Know For Real to be much better.
GeneralErlend . what about "the stains of time" (monsoon battle theme)
Memo Ro Its good, but doesn't beat the ones I mentioned avbove.
For some the short play time is a put off, but remember: this game has INSANE replay value. If it takes 5-6 hours a play through, and you play on each difficulty, you'll get over 30 hours of play time, more if you just want to do the boss battles again (which you probably will! they're the tits yo!).
I've got over 100 hours and I'm nowhere near done with the game.
BasedKyun Wow. A friend of mine has over 50 and I thought that was a lot. Rising is just that awesome I guess.
BasedKyun wtf i beat it in 4 hours you dyieng a lot aren't you
Shadowof Oblivion
No, I've been doing absolutely everything there is to do in the game.
I still love this game to this day it is a shame we will never get to see more of this talent and style anymore :(
Ugh, I hate it when "reviewers" play a game on easy mode then complain how short it was.
He clearly said that he died plenty of times in default dificulty,so he beat that game in normal -_-
Learn to listen man, then complain.
Plus he end the game at 5-6 hours, i was playing on easy and it was 4 hours so you know...
A match made in Outer Heav - okay, I'm leaving, I'm leaving...
Why? It was a good reference.
+irehgiaerj thats not what he said
then why bother commenting? are you truly that idiotic?
chris succee It's a joke.
It's sad that the majority of the people that watched this probably aren't aware of the meaning behind the reference.
Free on Xbox One through March! & Don't forget to download the 2 free story dlcs for way longer story
That's cool I didn't know the dlc was also free.
@@Noelosky hell ya bro, felt I should share that info to yall
"A very encouraging building block of what a spin off of the metal gear solid franchise can be."
5 years later: Metal Gear Survive
Dude, parrying is supposed to have a small window while blocking is supposed to have a wider window. It's not an exploit, it's the fucking programed mechanic.
i'm with joe about that is a short game, i enjoyed the hours that i had playing it, but i was left with me wanting more, but i happily played the DLC's but they were short too. next time on Metal Gear Rising 2 we need a larger game
with moar badass bosses
yeah!, no more clones of the ones already defeated
I didn't mind the length of the game too, much, but I wish it was longer. I found great joy in going for the S ranks on Revengeance, but I really, really wish there was an option for turning off codec calls during gameplay off completely, as well as skipping the credits scene, wich was very annoying after completing the game after 20 or so times.
Iron Dude Yes and no...just one clone...SAM. We all know he's not dead. Dude didn't get sliced into teeny tiny chunks.
hikaruhatake1
but he didn't had that many ciborg enhancements, only its hand wich (spoiler) was taken by armstrong during the Jetstream sam DLC campaing
Glad I found this channel back in my college days
Rules of NATURE
One of the few 10s games that aged amazingly
?
actually Raiden is more like a Samurai if you ask me
yeah saying is a ninja no sir he isn't a ninja
Gray Fox is the real cyborg ninja
well thats different if you ask me
morning morality no yeah sure ok uhuh they are both the same thing....
nope they are not the same ninjas are elite warriors while the ninja are elite in espionage but videogames turned the ninja into killing machine rambos except mark of the ninja
This game could have been way better if they implemented the camera better and made the artstyle look less bland.
This video is brought to you by RedBull.
Hey, Joe, love the review, but I have a question: what was your opinion on the DLC? (Namely, the "Jetstream" and "Blade Wolf" DLC)
Will Raiden go after Planned Parenthood?
+mclightning88 Nice connection
mclightning88 i hope so
The only respecteble way to discuss politics is on a giant metal gear
Murder isn’t politics
That's platinum games alright. Not much story, with tons of action. Just like Bayonetta.
Christian Lampley gabitch
Ehh guns vs katanas I think katanas is better
@@Phoenixblue. yes, the guns were the main weapon of Bayonetta, not the hair demons you created, you could swap the guns out for other things, hell theres a Katana in Bayonetta.
@@Phoenixblue. or why not both

Is there a loop of joe dancing in his raiden costume?
I want a loop of him repeatedly hitting the swat guy with the blunt stick sword
Yep.
What's it called and where can I find it?
The Tython It's called Dance From Metal Gear Rising: Angry Review. It's uploaded by Trollzor11
I never understood why you can never use that dagger Raiden has.
Sonow Brand You can, it's unlockable.
***** How, I just looked it up and it's just an aesthetic, do you know something that we don't?
Sonow Brand Google "Metal Gear Rising all blades". It'll be listed there. The HF Machete.
Is not the dagger but an alternate sword, I'm talking about the dagger that is sheathed right next to his sword.
Sonow Brand It looks exactly the same, my bad haha.
When you hear the vocals in the songs during the boss fights you know it about to get lit in a already lit boss fight
These games would be 10/10 nowadays the problems they had were nonesense nowadays the games aren't enen finished
All metal gears are my life
***** wat.
***** Don't take it so literally man.
***** lol alright I dead.
I know how you feel. MGS is a series I grew up with. NOTHING will ever top it for me.
DevineAaron Exactly. MGS has always been a part of my life.
What do I know? lol
lol, "spectical fighter"
Watching some zero punctuation have we?
I remember how hyped people were to chop watermelons.
I still don't understand why people hated raiden in sons of liberty? Someone please enlighten me I've played the game but I had no problem with raiden even tho his story and romance is kinda convoluted.
I mean I heard it was because raiden wasn't snake but I thought there would be a more logical reason. Example
in sons of liberty (my opinion) I hope I wasn't alone in this thought but when I was playing I felt like raiden was basically a Final Fantasy character in a game centered around betrayal, espionage, and Super Soilders with a decent story line and I have also realized that I don't have a place to say anything because I wasn't thoses guys who played the original 8 bit metal gear so I'm not into the mythos deeply so maybe im worng and I can admit that this is just my thoughts on why people didn't like him much. but if you see past these flaw you can see that Raiden is actually a well rounded character.
I agree
I think Raiden is awesome
Angry Joe obviously hasn't tried Very Hard or Revengeance mode.
Looks like he barely played it at all. It's hard for me to imagine how a reviewer could actually finish this game and think that the parry thing is some OP exploit and not a necessary mechanic. But then I guess it just may be the "revolutionary" AJ angle "If there are those eagles why couldn't they just flown them all the way? ;Derp"
He just did a quick run through... He didn't even know how the AI change a lot in higher difficulty, It's just insane :L
Raiden? Raiden!? RAIDENNNNN!?!?!?
All bosses have one thing in common:
“Don’t fuck with me Jack!!
Great review, Joe! Just finished the game myself. Agree with most all of your points! Found the camera and blade mode during key moments in boss fights to be a bit unwieldy, but still a great game overall!
