This game introduced its main villain in the last portion of the game and managed to be one of the most memorable and quotable villains of all time. If that doesn't tell you how amazing this game is then i dont know what will.

Its a very underrated achievement by Platinum, introducing the main villain literally at the end of the story and make him so memorable is something that pretty much fails every time.

i heavily recommend asuras wrath if you liked revengance though asuras has even MORE incrediple adrenaline filled awesome music boss fights the common mook fighting in bewteen the GODLY bossfights is less fun do to being beat em up rather then slasher but still WORTH IT

Dissenting opinion: I wouldn't have been bothered if it hadn't. The only thing I can remember about Rising is that I got 3 levels into while still not really understanding how combat system worked because there's no penalty for just mashing like crazy. That and.....ughhhhhhhhh.... Blade Wolf. Compared to that initial trailer, it felt like the game had snorted a whole lot of coke and never looked back.
@@elitefencer777 there's a lot of penalty for just mashing if you are playing on hard (even if not so much in the early game, you basically can't beat monsoon without knowing how to parry well, although if you do know how to do so the fight becomes almost trivial), and on revengeance you can learn some crazy tech by experimenting with how different skills work in different combinations

While I get that? Simply not possible, mathematically. Far more games turned out poorly in the end.
@@MattMcMuscles True. While it is sort of depressing to admit it, I think is better to cover more bad/mediocre games, games with a chaotic development or the two combined, specially since most of the general public its unaware of the insides of the game industry.

Revengeance was and still is such a blast to play today. It’s amazing how with so much development troubles and issues that it was able to persevere and release in the polished, beautiful state it did.
I really should replay it someday.
It's still very clear they had to resort to padding it out, for such a short game, the denver area is used twice and they have you fight mistral and monsoon a second time with no real context. Chapter 2 didn't even have a boss at all, and I get the feeling it was going to be the boss they eventually got into Bladewolf's DLC once they had time to finish it.

Im a huge metal gear fan and revengence is one of my favorite games in the series its such a blast to play and greatly bummed out we will never see a follow up but will always adore what we got.
Performance is surprising too considering the hardware and how good it looks. Yes it's far from hitting its 60FPS target, but most other PS3/360 games were far from their *30*FPS targets. This game still essentially runs at double the framerate of other games its gen (40-50FPS vs 20-25FPS)
This game made the word "Revengance" popular, gave us the track "Rules of Nature", the memes of Senator Armstrong with "Nanomachines son" and "100% Mad", and of course Mistral using Dwarf Gekko's hands as a seat and Jetstream Sam. Rising sacrifice was a positive at the end, and a high note as the furthest canonical title.
(Seeing thost "Not-So Platinum" games at the end hurts even more when most of them are in D-Listed purgatory because of licensing.)

Imagine working for Kojima for years and when he finally gives you free reign for a game you choke so badly you need to give it to another studio...
Even with Matt just reading the quotes about their regret I could feel the "why am I like this" from the devs.
I think Matt underplayed how much Platinum changed the gameplay. When I first saw the cut mechanic demo I was gobsmacked at how ambitious that was and how hard it would be to meld with a traditional action game. Platinum basically turned it back into a conventional 3D action game with moments of limited free cutting in very constrained environments. Platinum saved the game and made something great, but the original vision was extremely lofty.
@@tobyvision The problem is the original had no vision. It was a couple of cool technologies, aka, a tech demo. There are a lot of cool tech demos out there, but it takes a lot more to make a good game.

It’s crazy to think that Platinum had their hands on the game for two years, and not only was it a success, but the game itself worked well. The systems that were in the game were airtight, the performance worked well, and there wasn’t an abundance of glitches holding the game back. Really makes you wonder what the excuse is for bigger studios who can’t seem to get it right.
Lack of common goal/direction is a major theme of today's devs.
there are some pretty crazy glitches if you search for them, and occasionally some crazy glitches can happen without even trying for them, for example i myself have found 4 glitches during my normal playthroughs (reverse falling lighting (the name the speedrunning community gave it), being able to use offensive defense during some cutscenes, sundowner in R00 getting stuck in the floor, and MG Ray throwing you into the middle of nowhere softlocking the game), and i found some places where i can jump over the invisible wall in places i've glitch hunted

I am super excited for this episode, because i've always suspected there was a wild ride to get to an endpoint as ridiculous and awesome as Revengeance, but I am also sad that this isn't about Survive, though i'm sure that would have been a sad, sad tale of Konami not giving one single solitary fuck.

Undeniable but I'm still salty over them wanting to make their own story. That period between MGS2 and 4 is the last mystery of the Metal Gear Saga and instead we got a non canon game that ruined Raiden's character. It was a masterpiece and Raiden is amazing when viewed on its own, but in the context of MGS2 and 4, his arc was ruined.

This game was my very first and favourite by PlatinumGames. The Zandatsu Mechanic is very satisfying and the boss battles alongside the soundtrack is pure adrenaline fuel.
if you liked revengance i also HEAVILY recommend ASURAS WRATH you wont be dissapointed

One of my teachers actually worked on MGS: The Twin Snakes. He said that development was so exhausting that it turned him off from the series entirely and he didn't even play the game when it released or any future MGS titles.

Nothing but respect for Korekado after seeing this. Just from his quotes here, he comes off as a consummate professional who takes great pride in his work and doesn’t settle for mediocrity, but at the same time is humble enough to recognize when he needs help and uses it as a learning experience to motivate him to do better.
I remember hearing the game went through a bit of troubled development but the game turned out amazing! When I saw it was on this show, I'm definitely excited to hear the story behind the development of this game; Finally my curiosity can be satiated.

He's the visionary behind the series. Very strong leader.
Of course, they in turn also helped ground him and refine his vision into a "Hideo Kojima Game". Say what you will about Death Stranding being a good game, it's just not what one expects from a "Hideo Kojima Game".
Kojima majorly screwed up with Rising resulting in Platinum coming in. If you count ego and mismanagement as OP than yeah.

This game is actually my entry to the whole Metal Gear saga. Back then I always wonder "Wait, isn't this supposed to be a stealth game?"

This game so casually makes you laugh with the absolute dumbest shit, like Armstrong tossing jack into the air and kicking a field goal with him, it manages to be goofy but also have really high stakes and be quite serious. Actual masterpiece

It took me years to accept this in my heart as a long time Metal Gear fan... But Rising Revengeance is probably my favorite game in the whole series.

Did you ever do a video on Gun Loco? They even got as far as having a competition to have a fan sing the theme song. If I remember right they even selected a winner. But it was cancelled pretty last minute. Which is a shame because I was looking pretty hype.

The production of Rising really mirrors Raiden’s arc in so many ways. From a failed first attempt that stumbled, seeming directionless without it’s MC (Snake/Kojima) only for a second chance (Platinum/MGS4) to come by who enhanced the qualities of the game by gutting out its internals (initial premise) and gaining more freedom to become the game we know now.

Just got this for 7 bucks on steam and I’m able to play it 60 fps on a potato laptop, though I still remember the development hell this game went through, and the wait for news and eventually release.
Man, you are one of the best video editors/producers I’ve ever seen. You have a clip for everything and it’s absolute gold. 14/10 stars

I think one aspect of this game that is quite underrated was its use of music. Getting to the turning point of a boss fight and then suddenly have LYRICS kick in was truly incredible and super hype.
I look forward to you covering 'Metal Gear: Survive'. In Leeds (in the UK), Konami did a massive painting of Raiden on the side of a city centre building near the train station as a marketing stunt for 'Rising'. It is still there to this day.

I actually loved this game. The last boss fight is literally my favorite boss battle of all time.

Everybody always says that MGRR introduced its main villain in the last portion of the game but thats simply not true. You obtain video evidence of Armstrong’s involvement even before monsoons level and Mistral (the first actual boss battle) aswell as the many speculative voice lines during the gameplay, comms, and cutscenes.
I just wanna say I love revengeance. It's a freaking awesome game & I would love to see another game where Raiden or someone like Raiden just kicking some ass & obliterating enemies in another hack n slash adventure

There is such a wide range of retrospective content on Metal Gear Rising out there, both before the Max0r boom and after it, the variety is just impressive.
I remember in that particular showcase when a gigantic number 2 came up and the world went wild... only to clarify that the 2 was just the second anniversary of the game.
