    I have the etron 55, every morning it’s charged to 80% and shows a range of 138 miles this works out at 172mils fully charged in winter. That’s about 23 miles less than in summer. That’s nearly 100 miles less than claimed. The car is great I just wish they would be more honest with people about the real world range !

      Tesla is rapidly reducing the price of EVs thanks to economies of scale but unfortunately, Daimler AG (which owns Mercedes-Benz, Smart, Setra, Mitsubishi Commercial Vehicles [not the car business], Thomas Built Buses etc.) and Volkswagen Group (which owns VW, Audi, Skoda [cars not public transport vehicles], Seat, MAN, etc.) have been sleeping for the past 15 years since Tesla's founding and so all they've produced are expensive and not great for the price electric vehicles and thats not to mention the price premium they add to SUVs when compared to their lower ride height cars (like saloons/sedans, hatchbacks etc.) that they add to their vehicles despite only being different looks and a taller vehicle.

  • @hwmason530
    @hwmason530 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    EQC is my choice. It drives better. One recommendation, when you talk about EVs, you have to go in depth on ranges, efficiency, charging speed, power management software that kind of things.

  • @enyotheios2613
    @enyotheios2613 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Agreed. When the electric cars are really ready, people will be ready for them. Range, price, and charging rates of the current crop just don't fit into most people's needs. I'd need at least 400 miles of range to be able to deal with a busy day, and a much lower price. If I lived in a big city and didn't need to travel, I'd have the Honda E.

    MERCEDES.... PLEASE stick to this design... I don't mind the transmission tunnel obstructing a bit in the middle at the rear seats !!
    The important thing is, that you aspire to the gazillions of people who are FORCED to adapt to the EV market.... and you've hit a soft spot with this car.
    We really _wanted_ the GLC but realize it is becoming obsolete in the near future and we have to go electric.... but we love that you stick to the design of the fantastic GLC in the EQC !

    I own an E-Tron, and am nearing 10,000 miles. It fits my use case perfectly (range and capability to go skiing in hard winters, comfort for day to day) and I am overall pleased with it. That being said, the bluetooth is terrible, and the steering wheel is laid out poorly for one-handed driving (think turning the volume up with your driving hand will sipping a drink, the buttons are on the wrong side for all but you in Britain). I also have a 2nd more fun car in the garage, and if I didn't, I don't think I would be willing to go electric quite yet. I still like the road-trip ability of a gas powered car here in the States.
    8/10 I like it because it is the least obtrusive electric car I have found, in terms of it being an electric car. It doesn't shout at you or others about any 'special-ness' EV's may have in some circles. Get in and drive, and for the most part it feels simply like a nice Audi, rather than a gadget like some other makes.

      @@lovecarsTV I am very lucky to be able to indulge my passion for cars. The garage car is BMW's first go at making a Supra out of the Z4, a Z4M Coupe. I think Z4 Coupes are a rarer sight here in the States, compared to the UK, which is lucky for you, because in my biased opinion, it is a very pretty modern BMW. Wish there were more on the road.

    You don't say anything about the costs...what happens when the batteries worn out? In a diesel if the turbo goes out then you replace the turbo, in a reg engine a pipe bursts you replace the pipe which is not too much trouble but when the batteries for this E tron worn out then what? What would be the cost? How long these batteries run for before they go bust? 2 years? 3 years?

    • @josefv-y8m
      @josefv-y8m 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will not see an issue before 8 to 10 years...BMW has also changed warranty to 8 Years for the I3 since Battery lasts longer than they expected themselves.
      There is always a Brutto and Netto value of the Battery and this buffer will hide the degradation of Battery for years.

    As a 68 year old, dyed in the wood petrolhead, I would not to want to own either. Driving is such a pain these days anyway, so when you can get on a decent bit of road, you want a car you can properly engage with.....and let's face it, the sound of a decent engine engages you more than most things. Tumbleweed or the sound of a Scalextric car really don't stir the soul. I'll stick with my RSQ3, 5 cylinder sound track thank you and really enjoy my driving when I can.

    • @ffrrannk
      @ffrrannk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Driving an electric takes away 90% of the pain. I arrive feeling so much fresher, it's surprising how tiring the mechanical vibrations of an engine and gearbox are. I leave house with a "full tank", so don't have to stop at petrol stations. 1 pedal driving is also much more relaxing than needing to use the brake pedal. Traffic jams are a breeze, actually make my range go up and the car drives itself without any of the intrusion of stop start engines. I then get to cruise around town in the smoothest and quietest way possible. And all this before we even consider the pollution levels for the kids in our streets.

    • @Stator720
      @Stator720 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ffrrannk When you just need to commute and travel, no warm up time, silence for music, easy in traffic as you say, they're fantastic. To commute I'd have one instantly. They're not engaging though and it's pointless for the chap above to compare it to an RSQ3 .. hardly say that's engaging anyway.
      EV during the week and something smaller and fun for when you actually want to drive .. or a bike even! Perfect

    • @ffrrannk
      @ffrrannk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Stator720 yes exactly. The dream would be a fun petrol car "in the garage" for a weekend blast. But by the time I'm in the position for that it wouldn't surprise me if there are some great "weekend" electric options too.
      The main takeaway is ICE cars are terrible for sitting on our ever more congested roads and EV ownership makes more and more sense. Perhaps we'll see the rise of affordable ICE sports car shared ownership clubs.

    EV's are supposed to be all about efficieny, but then why do they make them in SUV form i.e bad aero and heavy weight? You guys should do a long term test with en EV and tell us what it's acutally like to live with :)

    • @lovecarsTV
      @lovecarsTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We haven’t had any opportunities to have long term loans, however for the EVs we have had at a week at a time we have always really struggled to live with them with what we do.
      Filming is often a pain as areas we film have very little charging infrastructure making things very difficult. And also just getting about is difficult.
      We do what we are supposed to, research the routes, the chargers etc however this is often not enough.
      One charger we visited was supposed to be useable via an app. Turns out the app didn’t know this particular station existed as it was too new. Another didn’t have cables long enough to fit in to the side of the etron. Another one we charged at when the battery was very low, the whole charge station just cut out after 7 minutes and after a long call late at night to support it was deemed there was nothing they could do.
      Our experience with the infrastructure has been very challenging, especially around Somerset.

      Lovecars And those kinds of experiences are definitely something I think you could mention in these videos.

    Cheers for the review and presentation of these two E-SUVs guys, good job as always, but no thanks. The most expensive part of owning one of these, is not just the money you'll pay to buy them, but that after a few years of owning and putting miles on them one would need to replace the storage cell/s which tend to loose efficiency over the years and usage, and these cells are pretty expensive. If I had the money and I had to choose between buying one of these and giving it to the poor, I would do the second. As I said no thanks, I will stick to my old school 2003 1000hp evo 8.

      Stop lying the average ev has an 8 year 100,000 miles battery warranty to a spec capacity. Some manufacturers such as kia&Hyundai are guaranteeing the battery itself for the life of the vehicle. Gd uninformed lying idiots on TH-cam!

    • @MariosEvoCy
      @MariosEvoCy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@benjaminwalker3972 The only misinformed here is you. You are so gullible to believe whatever a manufacturer advertises, especially in regards to electric vehicles. Apart from that, you did not understand what I said. I said after a certain amount of miles,it could be at 40K it could be at 60K, the storage cells start to lose efficiency which it is exactly what happens, their efficiency drops below 80%, and by 100K miles it will be even less, factory spec my ass, if it makes it up to 100k without any other problem that is, which by today's technology it is very possible for a problem to exist you moron. There are reasons , apart from usage, that it could easily fail, like heat and contamination, wrong way of charging. If it is still under warranty and the company accepts your claim without throwing at you the usual bullshit, then good for you, what happens after the warranty ceases to be valid? And its 8 yrs or a 100K, which ever comes first,and it is not for the average EV, it is for any EV a certain manufacturer makes, depending on the manufacturer that might extent to 10 yrs, or 150K, but that's just marketing, reality begs to differ. Personally I do not trust today's electric vehicles, nor any of the statements any manufacturer makes on their electric cars.Now call me a liar one more time bitch and see what happens.

      Lovecars totally get it and it was obvious you don’t have the EV love. So maybe don’t review them? I’m a petrolhead and love my 911, but I also have an i3s that I’m looking to upgrade to an SUV electric car. If you live in London and have dogs an electric SUV is a great choice. I have been looking at the EQC but was disappointed at the lack of really useful insight in your review. I guess you just are not who they are aimed at? Pity, as you could have brought far more detail to the review from two guys who really know and love cars.

    • @lovecarsTV
      @lovecarsTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tom Smith but the i3 is completely different. It’s actually quite hard to fault that car and it has a place as a city car and also a car you can comfortably do long journeys in. These don’t quite know their place but we always try and see the best in every car we review though honestly didn’t have a conclusive opinion without perhaps coming across even more negative!!
