      Exactly! This doesn’t take away from the Isaiah being one of the best PG’S of all time but he rubbed them the wrong way. I dislike that most of these guys can’t own up or just say they didn’t want him on the team. He disrupts their chemistry that summer and they knew they didn’t need him to win. He had fault in that.

    It appears Jordan's recorded statement in 2011, is the opposite of what he said in Last Dance.
    But, given that many in the NBA, and on the Dream Team, thought the Pistons style of play was bad for basketball, why would the Coach of that Pistons team, that helped orchestrate that style of play, be on the Dream Team?
    That doesn't make sense to me.
    And if I'm Daly, I don't take that opportunity.
    If i was part of creating that style of physically dangerous style of play, and my best player is taking the blam for it, and is excluded from the Dream Team, I'm excluding myself.
    What's upsetting still, is for years, because of ratings perhaps, the NBA higher ups allowed it.
    That style of dangerous play, the NBA higher ups should not have allowed.
    And if the other Dream Teamers thought Pistons Basketball was bad for the game, no Pistons, Coaches and Players, should have been on the Dream Team.

Doesn't matter how it came across the obvious fact was made on the documentary. Mike wasn't playing if Thomas was playing.
      That being said, why is there blame going around? If it were the other way around, do you think anyone was going to leave Jordan off the team to make sure Thomas had a spot? What is obvious and clear is that the selection process favored Jordan over Thomas. Thomas and you journalists crying over it and trying to find a story makes no difference. It is what it is. Dominique made a good point that I've thought to myself. Jordan ended up having a good relationship with Chuck Daly, but there is venom towards Isiah. Yes, the Pistons team crossed the line at times, Isiah was the leader, but Chuck was the head coach. There must be something that Isiah did that allows them to embrace Chuck and Dennis Rodman, but have disdain for Isiah. I don't know if it was the all star game freeze out or what.

  • @adamajwadi1546
    @adamajwadi1546 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    For those of us who witnessed the ascent of the Detroit Pistons from a mediocre team to a championship team realize that Isiah Thomas played a significant role in it. However, even though we cheered our home town heroes we knew that they adopted an "by all means necessary" as a tactic and did not rely on pure capability and talent. When Detroit eventually became champions it was not because they were indeed the best team or the most talented team, but because they were the team that would do everything necessary to win including dirty tactics. They knew it and we as fans knew it, but did not really care. Those who love the game knew that Isiah Thomas was a tremendously gifted talent and yet he knew that he had to rely on everyone pushing themselves to the limits to bring a championship to Detroit. So their triumph was that of their will and their willingness to adopt "by all means necessary" attitude. In retrospect the Pistons should admit that they adopted those tactics and have a little more class especially for players like Bill Lambeer. He in particular needs to refine his outlook as a human being. Isiah Thomas should have been included in the so-called "Dream Team" because he was talented despite what he did with his teammates to win a championship. Perhaps it an indictment of American sport culture that allows for dirty tactics to flourish rather than effort, talent and determination. Unfortunately, neither the very talented Isiah Thomas nor Michael Jordan can truly fathom how destructive some of their actions were in their pursuit of championship and the perspective of the human spirit. You can be great without destroying other human beings or make enemies of them. It is when you can win them over that you become great.

I watched their game. Everybody does what your saying mj, Larry a many more. It's apart of the game. Breaking your opponents down. Pistons just did it better. Mj did it his whole career. But that's cool because he's a scoring maniac. Guard him stop him. Triple team him. Smother the offense. It's all legal. As lso look up the basketball definition of dirty because cause I don't think you understand what it means. You make it sound like they were cheating.

    Jordan didn’t kick Thomas off the Dream Team; he simply said if Isiah is on the team, “I don’t wanna be on the team”. The selection committee made the ultimate decision to go with MJ. Trust me, the Dream Team woulda won with or without MJ. They were loaded with talent and the world basketball community was not on that level back in ‘92. They wanted MJ on the team because of his popularity. He was much more popular than Isiah Thomas. He never “kicked” anybody off that team.

    • @thedefinitionisthis
      @thedefinitionisthis 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Dream Team doc didn't go into that much depth either. They kinda danced around it, showing footage of Chuck Daly basically saying "Isiah is a great player, and I'm sure he's hurt by it... but he wasn't selected."... The only one in that doc who outright said he didn't want Isiah on the team was Scottie Pippen. When asked if Michael wanted Zeke on the team, Scottie said, "I don't wanna speak for Michael, but I don't think he wanted him on the team". The book about the Dream Team that came out a few years ago went into more depth. While Michael was probably the end-all, be-all, other members weren't exactly welcoming either. Bird and Isiah had been rivals in the East; Magic & Isiah had a falling-out; Karl Malone definitely wasn't a fan of his. End of the day, Michael was the one the higher-ups wanted, and prioritized him. If Zeke was on the team, that never would've happened. It sucks, but that's just the case.

    Keeping Isaiah off the Dream Team was just plain petty by any and all of those involved with the decision. The biggest reason Isaiah was kept off was because he wasn't needed to win the gold medal. Because of the overwhelming talent advantage, any one of those players, including Michael Jordan, could have been left off the squad and they still would have won the gold. If the US would have actually had to compete, Isaiah would have been on that squad.

  • @MrReese
    @MrReese 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    MJ never said that he didn't care whether or not Isiah would be on the team, he just said he wasn't the reason Isiah wasn't on the team. That audio clip also shows that someone else didn't want him on the team and that's why he wasn't.
    Also, Isiah was a rude punk that wants to play the victim nowadays. He got what he deserved.

  • @tekniqs

    quote from Magic. "Isiah killed his own chances when it came to the Olympics," Johnson said in the book, per the AP. "Nobody on that team wanted to play with him. ... I'm sad for Isiah. He has alienated so many people in his life, and he still doesn't get it. He doesn't understand why he wasn't chosen for that Olympic team and that's really too bad. You should be aware when you've ticked off more than half of the NBA."
    People want to paint this picture that it was MJ's sole doing that Zeke wasn't on the dream team. Fact of the matter is most of that roster didn't want to play with Zeke.

    The audio clearly states, "You know what? Chuck doesn't want Isiah. So Isiah is not going to be a part of the team." Meaning, the decision to leave Thomas off the roster had already been made prior to Jordan saying he wouldn't play with Thomas. So Jordan wasn't dishonest in the documentary when he said he had nothing to do with Thomas not playing. He's technically correct.
