  • Richard Jefferson is joined by Jalen Rose, Jay Williams and Paul Pierce for another "NBA Countdown: Stay Home Edition," discussing all things "The Last Dance" including the conflict on Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls, whether Jerry Krause or Jerry Reinsdorf deserves more blame, the Bulls' rivalry with the "Bad Boys" Detroit Pistons, Isiah Thomas' snub from the 1992 Dream Team, and the cheapest players they've ever played with.

He definitely got blacklisted. I think some are missing a crucial point. The Olympics are meant as a sporting event to promote goodwill and sportsmanship between Nations. Isiah demonstrated the worst sportsmanship when he walked off when he lost to MJ. Instead of owning up to it, he’s still passes the blame to Laimbeer for suggesting it. I think that was the final nail. Also, his team spent years trying to hurt every player on the dream team. So I really don’t think it was just MJ & Pippen who wanted nothing to do w Isiah

LMFAO😄 "seriously dude?" In the 1980's THE ENTIRE LEAGUE was extremely physical NOT JUST DETROIT. People are angry because The Pistons won 🏆Championships while wearing the BAD BOY moniker on their sleeve. The funny part is no one brings up that infamous press conference where the 1991 ECF Bulls were up 3 games to 0 & were about to finally win. Jordan had a press conference calling Detroit undeserving champions, the NBA world will rejoice when Detroit is out the picture, they're bad for the league, etc... So is it such a big surprise The Pistons wouldn't wanna shake hands with a gloating Michael Jordan? In the end Isiah got blacklisted from the 92 Dream Team & the world knows it.

    • @SS-xv7xf
      @SS-xv7xf ปีที่แล้ว +2

There is a difference between being physical and potentially causing a career ending injury. During that era most teams were physical , but only Isiah Tomas’s Piston’s played dirty. Ask all the players on the dream team why no one and I mean no one objected or cried foul when it was found out the Isaiah wasn’t on the team. That says a whole lot .When none of your peers stand up for you, your the problem. He got what he deserved in the end.

@@DreMurf313Thank you. They also never bring up how the Pistons were robbed in the finals with the lakers and Celtics did the same thing to the Pistons. I feel the league bullied the Pistons and then they got fed up and starting playing defense. Every team has a player that gets into people's head but if the pistons do it their the bad guys. Larry Bird was good at it but it's ok because he's Larry but lambier gets slot of heat. I loved Bill. He just gets on their nerves to draw the foul. It was hilarious.

Isiah Thomas being kept off the Dream Team it's probably one of the most disrespectful things that has ever happened in the history of basketball.
He and Magic Johnson who were the best point guards at that time and still are the history of the league. One of the other things that can be considered as horrible is Klay Thompson being kept off the all NBA team in this past season. Klay is the best shooting guard in the NBA and one of the best shooting guards in the history of the NBA. He can do anything imaginable offensively and defensively he is one of the top defenders in the league

The Celtics left the court when Dantley was still on the FT line!! Oh, but they were mostly white. And that walk-off was organized by LAIMBEER, but Isiah wouldn't ever throw his teammate under the bus. Remember, Isiah risked his career to defend a rookie named Dennis Rodman, who said Isiah saved his life. Rodman said he would call Isiah at 3am, because he was immature, young, didn't know what was going on with his head, and how Isiah (and his family) became HIS family. 90% of the Bulls conflict was a result of Scottie Pippen and not the front office! Had Pippen gone to the Supersonics instead of the Bulls at best Pippen would have been regarded no better than Shawn Kemp! I loved the Bulls and Pippen but facts are facts. All that resentment towards the front office began with Pippen. Krause just responded to the criticism in an unintelligent manner. Here are some things that caused Friction:
    1) Scotties Migrain Game
    2) Scottie Signs a bad deal
    3) Scottie jealous of Kukoc
    4) Scottie refuses to enter game during Playoff run
    5) Scottie jealous other players get payed more than him
    6) Scottie delayed surgery till the end of the summer of 1997
    7) Scottie trying to force a trade in 1997

The "Jordan Rules" were technically legal, but if they took place in today's NBA every single member of the Bad Boy Pistons would have been suspended for the season on practically every play. as a league the NBA eventually decided it was unacceptable, why should Jordan have to?
The Pistons literally beat him up on the court, if they played the game clean Jordan could've won 8-10 championships easy, plus the fact that they nearly ended his career on multiple occasions, if I was MJ I'd hate Isiah Thomas and I think it would be justified.

With all due respect... Zeke is definitely The No.2 small point- guard just behind Magic.
The guy was "beast" and the 'general' on the floor.
No question...BUT that's not the point...
The spirit of sportsmanship he wrecked by his walk-out...
How do you expect the top stars of the Dream Team who unanimously voted him out to play in syncharmony with someone who blatantly negated this principle the league continuously uphold?
Nope it's not about the skills anymore.
You get paid by your talent BUT you get to BELONG by your responsive ethics as a responsible human being. That's possibly the highest level of true integrity of a person.
We can see this clearly now...
We're not even talking about how much money, or how skilled this person is, but rather, how this person reacted under adverse situation...
Dumars & Sally shook the Bulls' hands.
Does it mean that they dedicated & worked less than Isiah for the team, that's why they were able to show respect & humility to the other team?
In the end, your bball skills will be remembered well to the fans...but your being a man of true ethical integrity will be stamped in the minds of the greater general public.

Christian Laetner over Shaq? Must be a race thing. Probably the same with John Stockton over Isiah Thomas. They made sure they had enough white dudes in dream team 1 as much as possible. Considering what happened during the tournament where MJ and Scottie had to play the point, having Isiah, John, and Magic on the team would have been a good idea and drop either Clyde or Chris. Considering the race thing I mentioned, I guess it had to be Clyde that you drop as MJ and Pippen can probably cover for him. Another thing, there was talk that Isiah already had wrist problems so leaving him off the 1st Dream Team may be a technically wise decision and not merely a political decision.

  • @youngblood4127

The Dream Team was close to Perfect. They were missing a couple pieces - The Perfect Team would've been: Magic, Bird, MJ, Isiah, Hakeem, David Robinson, Barkley, Ewing, Malone, Pippen, Dominique Wilkins, & Shaq . Ultimately, Excluding Chris Mullen, Christian Laettner, John Stockton, & Clyde Drexler. Shaq would've been far more exciting than all of these players. I know people will say Clyde Drexler but we already have Jordan. Not to mention MJ destroyed Clyde months earlier in the NBA Finals. Clyde wasn't the same until 1995 with the Rockets. I found this part of the doc very DECEITFUL from MJ's side, that they didn't show MJ ALL OF WHAT ISAIAH said. The part about the Celtics doing the same thing to Pistons. They didn't show MJ that - they showed what he said after which was STILL taken out of context bc Isaiah said "that's how a dynasty passed it from one to another back then." HE DID NOT SAY 'that's how ppl always acted, so MJ's response about how the Bulls acted the year b4 is irrelevant. The whole part where they show MJ the Isaiah's words looked like a total set-up. AND ACTUALLY THAT WAS THE 1st time I've SEEN Isaiah explain that moment in a way that made TOTAL sense by pointing out the Boston thing. The Boston thing is the linchpin to IT ALL MJ isn't mad about the hadnshake. MJ is MAD BC the all-star consipiracy, combined with the handshake, combined with the "MJ rules". And what MJ did in return was one of those situations where someone gets revenge that goes WAAAAAAAY BEYOND WHAT IS CALLED FOR. There ISN"T ANYTHING Isaiah did that justifies him being left off the Dream Team. So bottom line, it comes down to BOTH sides. 1) ZEKE started this by pulling what he did during MJ's early career and the all star snub (which is EVERYTHING to a young player like that). 2) MJ took it WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to far in his revenge. So in the end the responsibility starts with Zeke, regardless of what MJ did. And Zeke should just make it right by acknowledging publically that what he did to MJ during the All Star break was wrong and that it started the animosity and ask MJ's forgiveness and then honestly point out how much it hurt to be left off the Dream Team. I don't think Isaiah realizes he has EVERYONE on his size when it comes to the Dream Team. Bc for HIM to be left off the team, is no different than Magic or Bird. It's messed up in the extreme. So if Isaiah acknowledged how he started all this animosity and apoligized it would put the ball in MJ's court. After that if MJ never apologized for what he did, which again was ABOVE AND BEYOND WRONG.... I guarantee it would affect his brand, it would make him look bad, and it would put Isaiah in the RIGHT position and MJ in the wrong. Also this whole blood feud is tragic bc those 4 are the GREAT 4. THE 4 WHO CHANGED EVERYTHING. The 4 who ushered in the new era of basketball. And they all had a unique part to play in the drama. 1/2) Larry and Magic as the next level of excitement, rivalry and so on (plus the racial tension. 3) Isaiah was the wild card and the undersized (in an over sized game) rebel disruptor trying and succeeding to break decades old power centes/control by 2 coasts. 4) and MJ was the future and the culmination of it all. They were all CRITICALLY IMPORTANT TO BASKETBALL IN AN UNUSUALLY SPECIAL WAY...... and ISAIAH NOT BEING ON THE DREAM TEAM IS A TRAVESTY. But the lack of harmony between the 4 parts of the revolution and what made the NBA the NBA today is even more a tragedy.

OK, so there's so much hero-worship in the Last Dance and incredible narrative pushing. Here's one simple bit: The NBA in 1997 had the Bird exemption (which the 1998 lockout killed). MJ's salary was the entire salary cap because there was no limit to keep your star. Also years earlier the players and owners agreed that contract re-negotiations were not allowed, so Scottie made his own financial bed and the Bulls could do nothing.
But Krause is the villain and the debate is Reinsdorf deserves co-billing...whatever..
