I used to think these cars were impossible been 15 years hands on has taught me it’s all nuts and bolt takes much more time but most definitely not rocket science. YOU SIR ARE A MASTER OF YOUR CRAFT MANY WOULDNT EVEN ATTEMPT A BRAKE JOB ON ONE OF THESE
@@dnl35projectsyou are extremely similar to bimmerdoctor’s channel. He is absolutely just as detail oriented as you. I wish I had the time to do my engine swap myself. My n63 locked up a few weeks ago and now I’m stuck for now. I wish there were more like you in the US
Yes, the AC has to be emptied and the gas recovered before you attempt to break the lines - Also the fuel lines to the injectors have to be opened slowly and I recommend putting a rag around the first line being opened.
It doesn't have to go that high because we are removing the front bumper and basically sliding the engine out to the front of the car however you also need a scissor lift table or some sort of engine crane (to drop the engine and transmission on it, then drag them forward once all subframe bolts have been removed/engine dropped. My lift goes up about a metre and you have to be extremely careful when the engine is out as the car will tend to tilt back as the lift is raised.
I’ve seen where the engine can be removed from the top with an engine hoist. With the downpipes removed you can easily get to the bell housing bolts. Is it difficult to separate the the transmission from the engine? What do you think of this as an experienced DIYer that doesn’t have access to a lift? (2014 M5)
Hi, the main reason why I like to remove the front end is to clean all the gunk in between the radiators and have more room in the engine bay (yes it take some time but makes the job a lot easier) You can remove the engine from the top and its relatively easier to do so on the F10 M5 because of the dual clutch transmission, you don't have bolts between torque converter and flywheel (because there is no torque converter) so once the bell house bolts are removed you can simply pry the engine apart about 100mm and lift it up.
Hi, it took me 2 days because I was recording it and chasing some other electric issues with the car however a competent mechanic who know what it’s doing should be able to get the engine out in a day or in a few hours if done by 2 people.

You’re absolutely right - there is nothing really hard about these engines, it’s just very time-consuming and you need 100% attention to every detail

As always, fantastic even as a silent movie! Watched at .25 speed and it is absolutely a joy to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks
I was going to mention why remove front end then realized rack won’t go that high good work fellas
Thanks !
Great job!
What lift are you using?
Hi, I’m unsure about the brand. It’s a scissors lift I bought used from Marketplace
@DNL35
Very nice video, thanks for sharing. Where did you buy those four adjustable poles that you placed under each corner when the car is up?
Thanks - They are 1 metre high scaffolding props
About to drop a S63 from 2010 X5M - do you have any video on yours? Great content on your channel, thanks!
Thanks, unfortunately I do not have videos for the removal process
@@dnl35projects Learning a lot from your content, hopefully I can contribute with some video on the removal / install process.
Do you have the full un cut version
Hi, that video was made out of about 30 short videos. Send me a PM if you get stuck or need specific information
I'm starting my engine pull and was wondering if there's anything I should be aware of/careful with (i.e pressurized systems)?

Also , how high would you guess you had to lift it to clear out the engine? I may purchase a scissor lift like this to get the engine out of my x6

Hi , what floor jack brand are you using? Thanks
That’s an unbranded (Chinese copy) of the power Rex - unsure about the name

which brand jacks are those
Hi, they are scissors lift which I have for a few years, unsure about the brand however there are plenty of options available now days
What kind of lift is that?
Hi, its a 1 metre hight scissor lift
How much it took you, to take out the engine?

@@dnl35projects Pretty fast, is your M5 LCI? And does it have any difference on engine reliability vs pre-lci? 🤔
don't need to remove front mask and front axle
There’s no need for it but I like to do it that way to clean all gunk between the radiators
Iwant to work with you 😂
Give me a few years, I might open a BMW shop 😅
5min😂😂😂 you mean 500min
🤣 the video has 5 minutes ! If you’re taking the engine out for the first time it could take two days or more.
"Good" german cars 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
These cars are really good however if you’re broke or don’t want to spend $$ on maintenance they are no good 👍
😍👍
Thanks
