    After purchasing one for a friend and one for myself, we are both very pleased with a knife now known as the Immler Knife. You are to be congratulated once again Felix.

    My oh my, as a spoon carver myself that knife would be a dream come true. Up to now i always had to carry my hook knife to carve the depressions and if i take that, then i might as well take the whole kit... But with this i can leave those at home and just take this.
    Ordering one right now. Awesome vid as always, Uncle Felix.

    When I saw the concavity carver in the video where you introduce the knife, I wondered whether it is just a 90 degree edge or an edge similar to a card scraper(cabinet scraper).
    In the past I never thought the card scraper edge to be useful for bushcraft, but a youtube channel(which i will mention later) gave me an idea! In the video, an experienced machete user shows how he modified the spine of a machete to create fine scrapings for fire starting. The improvements from just a 90 degree edge to a card scraper edge allows the knife to create hair-like shavings with almost no pressure. Furthermore, In traditional Chinese carpentry, tools with card scraping edges are used(a tool called the centipede file is a series of card scrapers arraged like a saw). However, to create this edge, they use a different method, which I found to be very effective for a hasty scraper in the field. They use a very hard piece of steel with 90 degree corners to apply pressure to another softer steel with a 90 degree edge at a certain angle while draging it. This deforms the metal and creates a huge burr, which is the same as an European card scraper edge. Lastly, an American product called SpeedySharp(copyright) used a very hard alloy for a quick knife sharpening device that is very small(However, it requires skill to not damage the knife). All of these combined, and the fact that a hard alloy can be used to scrape a ferro rod with less damage to the tool, led me to carry a HSS machine tool "blade" as edc. In the past 3 years, I have turned old saw blades' backs into cabinet scrapers, repaired nicks on axes, knives, and other bladed instruments, and scored glass for breaking it evenly, which suprised everyone.
    The initial youtube channel that gave me inspiration is here: "Machete Bushcraft Australia"
    The specific video is entitled: "Machete Card Scraper Sharpening"

    • @alliswell-pb9vo
      @alliswell-pb9vo ปีที่แล้ว

      a product called "handysharp" is essentially the same thing, but one seller of this item has a lot of videos about it on youtube

      Thanks for your super intersting comment. We made just a nomal 90° spine..

    • @alliswell-pb9vo
      @alliswell-pb9vo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FelixImmler that is perfectly fine for a spoon carver! I mentioned this because the instant I saw the device on the back of the knife, I thought it would be great to have one side a card scraper and another a normal 90 degree edge.

    Moin Felix,
    Victorinox & du, ihr könnt zurecht stolz auf das Venture sein.....das ist ein Messer für vielfältige Anwendungsmöglichkeiten. ich denke sehr vielen Nutzern ist das auch absolut bewusst.
    Und für all jene, die ihre Messer gerne missbräuchlich nutzen...die können das gerne machen, jedoch wäre etwas Kontext, eine Art "Disclaimer" da dann immer sinnig und angebracht.
    Ich finde es super, das ihr mit dem Venture solch eine Schneidrakete auf den Markt gebracht habt!
    Stay sharp & Peace,
    Stephan

    You could make one video on how you maintain the sharpness of those spines: the one on top of the blade and this one for carving bowls. Because I suppose they will get dull at some point and I have no clue on how to maintain an angle for those.

      @@FelixImmler it looks like a fantastic knife, and I love how they Incorporated the tweezers in the sheeth I was hoping they would do something like that when I make a knife sheath I like to put extra pockets or things I want to carry that always need to be with my knife.

    This looks like a great knife, but you know what would've made it an even better knife?
    A 5" blade with Mora Kansbol-style scandi-flat combo grind.
    You know this is true !
    Thanks for your videos, Felix.

    The Mora Garberg has an exposed tang like the Victorinox. I never thought to use it for spoon making.
    I’m guessing the Victorinox would strike a ferro rod well with the tang.
    Cool spoon.

    I have never understood the "one knife to rule them all" mentality. I *ALWAYS* carried at least three knives when I went hiking, hunting or camping. A big, hefty beastie for heavier tasks like chopping or batoning which rode on my belt or LBE. A smaller folder, like a swiss army knife for those small intricate jobs which rode in my pocket. And a handy midsize knife like my gerber prodigy for everything else. (Although now I'm looking *REAL HARD* at that Victorinox to replace my prodigy.) I have carved rough and ready spoons with the prodigy, but the Victorinox looks like a much better option for carving tasks.

      Yes, the Venture have a super slim geometrie. It's definitly not for heay tasks! But it is a cutting monster!

      I'm giving serious consideration to the Venture. It just appears to be built in an intelligent manner. Everything from the blade geometry to the handy spoon carver to the small things like the way the handle looks like it's set up for a better grip when carving.

    I love the design with one small exception. I prefer blackened blades or brushed finish blades and not for the reason most folks think.
    I became set against using polished blades when carving on a sunny day with one of Morakivs. Sun bounced off the blade and I was seeing spots for several minutes.

    Victorinox should rename the collection to "Felix Immler Edition", I keep fingers crossed that there will be a limited edition "Felix Immler" to reflect your very good inputs on that knife!
