I never camped, never owned a Swiss army knife, and never even imagined these techniques... Your videos just made me want to start these activities 🤣 very fun and informative content
Hi Felix! The fact that the feathers were obtained from green material demonstrates just how useful this technique can be even in a situation where there is no time for significant wood prep. Excellent demo!
Also I have friend from Switzerland and was explaining that I was afraid I had lost my favourite AAK. He showed me his real Army SAK and asked if I had ever heard of Felix Immler! Of course I had and explained how much our family enjoys your videos. He said he met you in Munich once and you showed him some carving skills. It was a wonderful coincidence.
Hello Felix! Thanks for another informative video. As others have commented, your teaching technique is easy to follow. Your camera angles expose your work and helps us to observe your techniques. Great job my friend. I hope you have a great week. See you next Friday.
Thank you for the tip to angle the knife blade back at a 45 deg! I wouldn't of thought it would make as much of a difference as it did! As always, you rock! Thank you.
Leave it to you to take a common task and take it to the next level. I've been doing feather sticks for years and "thought" I was good. You've done it again. Thank you yet again Felix. Respect from Florida USA 🌴
Great video! Always found it hard making these "feather sticks" like the experts did, pushing the blade along the wood. I just thought it was because I was inexperienced or my knife is dull or the wrong type. But after watching this video and trying it myself it was so easy! Thanks
You have made it in to a work of art. Old Gypsies used to make them very carefully all around a stick so they looked like a chrysanthemum flower then sell them as decoration. Mine never come out that good but at least they work. Wonderful advice, thank you.
The small, fine tips bring your demo from a good one to a perfect video! (in my opinion) Well thought out, very well shown, excellently described! Thank you for this video!!!
Oh Felix - that trick is so neat! How ingenious, and very well taught - I've just tried it and it really works so well - and my main blade locked safe and securely because I have the Evogrip S54 that has that locking feature, the main reason I bought the knife for! Another tip for my Playlist! 😃 Thank you so much - *Hugs* Wendi
Hey Felix. This is common sense at work. Eliminate the variables, use one action. I used to cut lacing from a leather or rawhide disc with this method. The knife is set into the stump and the lace is pulled. Takes a super sharp blade, a steady hand and a lot of practice, but like your feather stick the end result is perfect. Thank you for another informative video. Bravo.
That was awesome, Felix! I have just learned more in a couple of minutes than in months of watching many videos teaching methods that now don't make sense! Well done, Sir!
Great video Felix! You seem like a great person to hang around with. The way you speak, and the birds singing in the background, and even the occasional cowbell... just so calming. Thank you for all you do!
The serrated blade on the Swiss Soldier's Knife also makes some great curls. I brace the wood and I use the Soldier's knife at a 45-degree angle like a draw knife. The serrations make quick work of making a lot of curls because it makes many fine curls with each stroke. It's become my go-to knife for fire prep and mostly everything else.
Just had a conversation about the lack of use of feather sticks in these days of modern fire starters. I always enjoyed making and using them.. Going to try this method this weekend for sure... Thanks again for sharing
@@FelixImmler I tried it .. Not very good at it .. (video coming out tomorrow) Must have been the wood or the knife,, couldn't possibly be ME hahaha Going to try some different combinations. I'm hardheaded I'll get it sooner or later
You never cease to amaze me with your elegant yet simple solutions! Especially for someone like me who tends to over complicate things by over thinking them...........thanx for another great video!
Love this video Sir Felix! I'm late watching this and know you are on holiday so I wish you and your family the best quality time ever. Miss you very much!! From 🇺🇸 to 🇨🇭 .
Danke sehr, Felix! My attempts to make feather sticks in the past have failed miserably, but this technique looks foolproof. I will definitely try it on my next outing in the woods.
This idea is a good one for not just using a Swiss Army Knife if you happen not to have one. Placing the cutting edge at an angle is the best part of this idea to make sure you do. Now, I just hope I remember this the next time I make a fire stick. 😂🤔
Das ist interessanter als 95% was im fernseher läuft! Das isch würklich sehr wertvoll! Absolut genial! Nach dine videos würi amigs am liebste im wald go wohne.. 😅
Great video. I’ve lived in Switzerland for over 26 years, I’ve been involved in Bushcraft and teaching for more. But this is the most Swiss Video I’ve ever seen. Theory, precision, technique. Loved it.
Great method here, I love it. I have never had any problem in the past making feather sticks, but this is much easier than what I have done. Anything that can make your job easier when in a survival situation is always welcome. You have done just that, made survival easier, and that makes life easier. Many thanks again for your work.
Thank you Felix!! Another great video. I have learned a lot from you. I carry other knives as well as my Swill Army knife but I think I probably use it the most. Thanks for showing me how to increase its versatility.
i find this method very useful especially with longer and heavier blades like machetes, hatchets or long and thick chopper knives. Very fine curls in little time is a precious thing all outdoor men would have the skills to achieve, and with this awesome trick is now possibile. thanks Felix 😊
Felix - all your videos are interesting and this one - really interesting. That is a fine fuzzy feather stick - nice. Thanks and please don't stop these might fine videos. Best Gray
Brilliant logic, well done and thank you . I still waiting for the swiss army knife Felix edition , as you have shown more use for the swiss army knife than the manufacturer ever dreamed
wow another fantastic tutorial! this is the best feather stick video I saw, and your explanations make total sense! thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge! your channel is my favorite bushcraft channel by far!
This is why you sir are my favorite TH-cam content creator! I very much appreciated the little bit with adding that sap at the end...i made what I called a Canadian Candle not long ago and it was with dry sap crystals and a couple curls of Fatwood to act as the wick and it had an impressive burn time of over twenty mins! I absolutely look forward to your Friday uploads Mr.Felix and already looking forward to next week's episode! I hope your weekend is blessed my friend thanks for sharing your knowledge and time with us! Cheers, Jerbs 👍🏼🇨🇭🔥🔪🔥🇨🇦👍🏼
Felix: I always felt you are a genius of a sort… Truly, the most important tool in survival is the brain. Work smarter, not harder. Thank you for this great video!
05:23 gleich noch eine kleine Einheit in Geometrie mitgeliefert. Ich fand auch gut, dass du selbst Fragen aufwirfst, die du dann beleuchtest und beantwortest. Das hat dem Video Tiefe gegeben. Grüezi
Outstanding! What a lot of people forget about feather sticks are the shaving that fall off. They are not wasted. Put them in the pile along with the feather stick. Again, great work Sir and thank you for passing along your knowledge and skill. Chao!

I just want to say thanks Felix . i got myself a huntsman SAK knife due to your videos and im loving it !

Felix what beautifully fluffy feather sticks you have made! So nice! I love learning from you. thank you for the video!

Hello Gray. Your comment makes me happy!
I love the cow bells in the back ground see you next week maybe take a film of them at the beginning
Good technique there Felix. I agree, consistency of cut is achieved by reducing the number of variables. The more constants you have, the better.
These are such useful tips and principles. I can’t get enough of your channel ❤️
Those are some mighty fine feathersticks! Angling the blade makes sense... the edge of spill plane irons are angled as well.
Thanks a lot for your feedback!
