Very reliable car - simply used for commuting. Pandemic stopped the commute and that's why the mileage per annum dropped. I did have it serviced a lot and this helped. Never really used it for family outings and that is why the seats and interior survived. The little kink in the boot is my fault- an argument with a skip on my drive. By the way, you found that sweet I lost ages ago! Great video and pleased what you have done with the car. PS very happy with the Clio you sold me. Cheers!

I had an early 2004 Megane Dynamique. It had 167,000 miles on it when I sold it to the local scrappers for £50 in 2016. There was nothing actually wrong with it just very tired. I'd kept it well maintained for the 8 years I had it with some warranty work on the 1.6vvt engine when I first bought it. Only gremlins I had was the sunroof never worked(not too bothered about that) and the doors were full of water where the seals had failed. It was still on the road last time I checked. I've had 4 cars since.

You really have to give Renault some credit for designing such an interesting-looking car. I mean you see a Megane and you don't think 'oh look a BMW'. You know it's a Renault. I can't tell new cars apart, BMW included.

I had a 2004 mark 2 Scenic, and the oil rings finally let go at 203k miles! I owned the car from 18mths old until 2017.
Apart from a turbo pipe, which Renault failed to replace under warranty, instead they decided to put a jubilee clip around the hose to close the split! Which several years later failed so I replaced it myself, and the EGR failing at 70k, everything else was original on the car!
Original turbo, clutch, injectors, alternator, all lasted 203K!
I absolutely loved that car, and after driving around in a Kia Sedona for 6 years, I recently purchased a mark 3 Grand Scenic!
148k currently on the clock and the 1.5 diesel engine purrs, giving me around 40mpg. This one has a few issues because the previous owner didn't look after it, but I paid £1500 and have sorted the issues myself, so can't complain!

Watching this is bringing back so many memories, I learned to drive in a diesel one of these in that era. My driving instructor’s son was my best mate at the time, so also used it as his first car. Can remember him picking me up for nights out and me holding him at the traffic lights using the dual controls 😂 Great times, and another great video Matt, keep em coming! 👏👏👏

French cars really are a strange mix of average quality, dependability and being a work horse! My Grand Scenic 3 has had a few issues but i still like it! It has never let us down charging around Spain and is a beautiful shape as well. It's comfortable and economical. Yes, i would love a Range Rover, but can't afford to run one. So i'm happy with my quirky french car!

Ran one of the very earliest 03 plate Meganes like this with a 1.9dCi for a while in around 2015 or so. Mechanically faultless and drove so well, so comfortably. Electrics were a tiny bit possessed (the early keyless entry was temperamental etc) but nothing particularly fatal, really enjoyed it. Not had a Renault since but have one on order so looking forward to returning!

My brother got a really nice 2004 1.9 dci some years back, drove it for a while before it ended as a workhorse in the family company. It worked without too many (mostly company-car related) issues until a worker collided with an oncoming bus. The car was totalled, but the 19 year old chassis and airbags did their job. He broke a few ribs and got quite bruised all over - but not only did he survive, in fact he didn't get any really serious injuries. While I quite liked it before, now I genuinely respect this car.

Finally someone gave a shit about a car. Worst thing is, giving a shit gets you nothing back as a private seller. *Sad and happy emoji

A mate of mine had one like this but a 1.6 Petrol. Engine was reliable and it was abused in being used for all the stuff moving house entails. £750 with 70k on but this was 7 years ago. Only modification was the rubber seals on the windows are too short on the front doors and it kept blowing the motor from water no doubt getting in. Took the door cards off and lined the frame with Damp Proof Course and they never went again 😂

This took me back to 2004 when I had an estate version of this car in this colour which I really liked. I spec'd mine with heated seats, climate control etc and I found it a really comfortable reliable car. I had forgotten about that little bit of 'sticky back plastic' just in front of the rear wheelarchs which I never really understood. I think the fact that it still had the little dustbin after all those years was particularly touching. But how did you not mention the covered CD storage in the driver's door? Or was that not on this spec?

Oh wow, a Megane. I forgot these existed tbh, it's just been quite a few years since I've seen one. They used to be quite common, but I guess most of them fell apart and were scrapped.

You must live on the moon. These and for some reason mk2 Clios are incredibly prevalent still on our roads.
      Good cars.

I find it funny how Renault apparently decided that their diamond logo wasn't recognizable enough, so they added an extra badge that says "RENAULT" to the corner of the hatch on the facelift models.

I’m sure I’ll have seen this car. The sticker in the front window when you bought it was issued to staff members of The AA and I think only the former Cheadle office. Given how well I know that car park and the people that drive in it, how that car is in 1 piece is nothing short of a miracle.
