The one time a carvertical check costs more than the car is worth.
😂😂😂
Buahahaha
you get 10% off though!
😆😆😆
Depends on the car value. You can go to Gov UK and check MOT etc for yourself.
Strong chance of this one spending its final few months parked up outside Maccys doing Just Eat deliveries next to the K11 Micras and mk1 Yaris.
Don't forgot Mk1 ka's, thats where mine went!!!
@@craigfayers6735 the humble mk1 Ka! Don't see many of them these days. Though I have seen a pizza shop delivery driver in a StreetKa which still looks half decent.
"alright boss got your big mac meal yeah any tip innit?"
The Dominos near me has the crappiest cars imaginable. There's a beat up old Fabia with a plastic bag for a rear window and I can't believe they stick the illuminated logo-sign on the roof. Terrible, but appropriate image.
@@FTFLCY the balti where I am has a t plate micra and an 56 Citroen c1 which looks like its been in a warzone

Yeap a immi will pick it up from you I'm sure.

already looking forward to having my takeaway slop delivered in this by an illiterate 18yo doing balloons at 50mph in a 30 zone
Careful where you place the comma in that comment 👍🤣😂

Car: barely standing in one piece…
Matt: “it’s crying out for a new set of reg plates”
😂😂😂😂
That buzz you get when a phone alert comes through for a new High Peak video on TH-cam! 🥳
:)
I’m glad I’m not alone. I feel vindicated too now. Always enjoy relaxing at the end of a challenging day and chilling out watching Matt on video always entertaining. 👌
Another little Blighty car mistreated and unloved, too far gone to save this one Matt. Such a shame, would have made a new driver a useable first run around taste of freedom, accruing some non claims bonus time.
You need to get out more
This is the typical car you could sell to a diy bloke who could fix it for himself or flip it.
I'm interested seeing someone like a British Chris Fix that or something that could perhaps make this car be road-worthy again. This is the type of car that future mechanics should be taught on with so many things need replacing.
Sounds like more or less a full brake job, a set of tyres, an exhaust/repair and she be good for another year or two. Easy for a shade tree mechanic to fix up - maybe even a young TH-camr starting out…..pay it forward Matt! 😂
r9995 even a novice could do a set of brakes and an exhaust, they're just bolt on parts.
About 50 years ago there was a dealer called himself Honest Ken in Newport, South Wales. Sold old bangers and advertised them “warts and all” . Loads of satisfied customers bought from him as you knew exactly what you was buying. Unlike many dealers then and now !
Thanks for sharing Matt
Back in about 1969 when we used to drive to Fairbourne each summer on holiday we used to pass a place that sold cars for £50 or less.
Remember him well, astoria motors
@@thelivingroombusker2013 nice one
I live out in Korea where these are branded as a "Kia Morning" rather than picanto. These things are King over here, especially in this shape. Seems to be the oldest car that's still used so I guess these things must be pretty reliable
I love the picanto just simple reliable motoring. We bought one for my dad as a second car during covid me, step mum and dad worked at same place and it went under so they needed 2 cars. Its a brilliant little car i think we paid 1200 for an 09, it just never wants for anything and considering theyve always leased new cars thet seem to love it.
Yes a man that knows 👍
I agree. A car with so few miles on the clock should not be scrapped. It needs a person who is handy with a welding machine, and possibly has some fabric adhesive for the roof liner, otherwise a few bob to get it through an MOT. It would run for another 100K easily. Real shame.
Definitely a shame. Engine still strong and body and interior tidy but 20 English winters has taken its toll on that underside.
I know this sounds weird but I find its simplicity refreshing in these days of over-teched cars
Me too
My family sold our old 2005, 250k kilometers, Picanto last month for €300. The head lining was falling off so we screwed it, the boot wouldn't stand on its own anymore, the bonnet was rusty and we sprayed bottle it. Still the engine was perfect, It would start in 1 second in cold weather. Now it's the first car of a 18 years old guy, he loves It.
That’s good going
I’m gutted, I was hoping for a transformation at the end! Always thought these were well specced (for the time) and good looking runaround’s. Would make a nice project car for a driveway weekend enthusiast 👍🏻
Every time Matt has a 15-30 year old, super low mileage car
I can expect it to be condemned. To me, it means the thing has just been sitting around, not being driven and vehicles seem to not enjoy not being driven. And it usually means it’s not had enough oil/filter/plug changes because a layman looks at mileage not age.
Sadly it seems this little Kia conforms to that assumption. Sad really; I like the colour and I’ve never hated the Picanto’s looks and this kind of cheap car for new or downsizing drivers are dying out.
In this case if the mileage was higher it would probably have been scrapped years ago with all the rain and winter salt battering the underside. This car had had welding in the past so it did well to last this long.
Did you shave the beard off because you were mistaken for Ian Seabrook driving it
a close friend had a 2006 bought new in this exact color. sold in 2018 with almost 200.000 km without having any sort of problem. done only regular maintenance and the 1.1 was sipping a mere ounces of oil more than when new. the clutch was horrible since day 1, but they are great city cars, very reliable and frugal. only the suspension was not that robust.
1:41 Yes. Imagine waking up at 50 and realising you didn't buy that Kia Picanto... Or memorise the colour names for every major car brand since 1998.
Sounds like a life wasted to me
I woke up at 50, snoozed the alarm ten years then woke up again at 60 - nothing changed 😊
@@HighPeakAutosI can see that specialist subject round on Mastermind: Car manufacturers' vehicle colour options, 1990-2020.
Wait until you reach 55 or thereabouts. You'll have forgotten most of them, I promise!
@@ianb9729 Peugeot Talbot had, "Antelope Beige" and "Sweetcorn" around that time 😂
Who can forget BL Sandglow? The colour of something your cat would retch up!
That's calling out for a cheap long journey challenge video. It's averaged 500 miles a year for its whole life... would be interesting to see if it could do a years mileage in a day!
I’m amazed it has discs on the rear and not drums! Kia pushed the boat out there for such a small light car!
It's a weird one. I had preface lift like this one with discs on the rear aswell. But when they were facelifted in 2007 or 2008 they switched to drums on the rear. I wish mine had the drums since they had a better handbrake.
See you are turning into Hubnut 😂
lol
No Hubnut would diffo have kept it and probs be the pride of his fleet.
@@voivod6871 I think you mean deffo kept it ;)
Ur hair is always on point & it's a credit to you
I do have to say I love your uploads your content is great, love how you don't get involved with high value motors and that you keep it real and defo not baggy, yep defo keep up the good work, be nice to see if you do manage to sell the cars on though 👍
A 20 year old car has got to be a modern classic you'd have thought? 🤔 So instead of doing the right thing for the car by keeping up with the maintenance, the previous owner(s) decided to not spend any money on it & drive it into the ground instead!👎 😤😤 Thats good of them!👍😁😝
Looking very "PINK" there Matt or is that Colour called Man Salmon ;)
My daughter while attending University had a tiny Kia Rio, I would always take it to the local Shell and top it off on Sunday evening before she headed back, also made sure all her fluid levels were good and tires were properly inflated. I got out at the station and a about 5 year old cute as a button lil boy standing at the car with his mother told her that’s a big man to have to ride such a tiny car🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂, every week it was a exercise in humiliation, I wanted to have a sign made that said, This is my daughters car, my vehicle is a F150🤣😂🤣😂
Brilliant story 😂😂😂
And a picanto is even smaller 😂
Whys the kids race relevant?
Id be more embarrassed having an F150
I occasionally have to drive one daughter's pink Fiat 500 and my other daughter's cream VW Beetle (with the obligatory flower in the dashboard vase), mostly on similar 'ensuring roadworthiness' duties. I like to kid myself it takes a Big Man to drive such girly cars. Both are surprisingly decent to drive, especially the Beetle.
Matt you should let your beard grow think you'd suit it 😂
My brother had one of these years ago. Can't complain about it it was a work horse! We did a holiday run to Devon fully loaded for 2 week holiday golf clubs and everything else we needed for the holiday. Although it has the boot the size of a small cardboard box we still managed to fit everything in. Even though it is no sports car driving it on the country roads was fun and parking in city side streets is a dream due to its size. Not a bad first car for a new driver.
In Africa that car would last 20 more years.
Easily
Aww.... the headlining just wants to give you a hug, Matt. 🥰
That should definitely have been your new daily driver Jedward (I mean Matt). On a more serious note though, could you not drive it to and sell in Spain? Or buy it for your brother as his Rust 2 Rome car so he can join in the fun?
This was literally my first cat, but on a 56 plate, mum bought it for the same price off a guy with one eye and every panel on it had a dent, brilliant little car.
A car you can park anywhere and not give a toss about, a car you can redline all the time without a care in the world. If it blows up, get another one.
Rear discs? Fair enough on such a high performance vehicle
Banger racing, here we come!
Love the videos on the cheap part exes. Keep up the good work Matt.
Perfect for someone with spare time and skills to revive themselves, while keeping their parts cost to a minimum. With a little TLC there could be years left in it but no how for a dealer to sell on. Sad but interesting - thanks for the video.
Nice vid again. A truly horrible car, l think it's the equivalent of an FSO or Yugo from my youth, something you'd only drive if you were absolutely desperate. I've noticed takeaway Micras being lowered & painted recently, l'd never have forecast that, but l can forecast that it won't happen to these Hyundais.
6 months MOT at least. We'd love to see more 'transformotion' hand-overs. (not picantos obvs) Get them to flip ur buys hopefully for profit. Know its probabaly easier said than done tbf
If you did all that up with 40k miles it could go for another 10 years, shame everyone wants a massive new car rathern than actually owning one
That is the king of motor cars. A car you dont give a monkeys about. A truely liberating drive. The 4 lamdsail radials just add to the swmse of adventure and liberation.
..."wake up at 50 and realise you done nothing with your life". Thanks Matt, I'll take that as a personal revenche for all the times I cheared for you, when overspending 😅
Haha sorry... Just a reminder for anyone watching: No risk, no reward :)
I just thought ... I'm nearly 51😂😂
Forget the car !! The main question is .... your top, pink or salmon?? LOL loved the video and so sad for it to be so bad.
Bought one of these for the missus a few years back and the headliner did the exact same thing, just pulled it down at the boot and sprayed in carpet glue, never fell again
I bought a bag of carrots for 15p.
Should I make a video about it?
I’m thinking for the format, I’ll get a haircut, whack a bit of just for men on the beard, and then have a humble brag in the car on the way to the supermarket, then I show my carrots?
What y’all reckon? Cheers guys.
Only if they needed a good buff and a new set of reg plates.
What a beautiful little car , a little golden nugget 😳🕺🏼
Whether we drive a £150,000 car or a £500 car, the road and distance is the same, and we get to the same destination.
Same is true of life in general but isn’t it about the journey?
If you put cable ties on your wheel trims, you don’t deserve to own a car.
Nice vid, thanks Matt. Can't save 'em all.
8:04 Certainly wasnt expecting to hear an old Jay-Z tune thumping out of the radio!😂
Great video Matt, these arer my favourite type.
Glad you like them!
INCREDIBLE I've got the same car, same generation and same colour touch wood she's going strong even now
My wife still have facelift model from 2008. Her car has all available options except heated seats. Even side blinkers are installed in the mirrors. She didn't allow me to trade it in for Astra J from 2013 because she prefers Kia.
@@piwbenzyna didn't even know you could get them with those options , the Astra J is a lovely car too
@@passengerseatreviewsIt was some weird direct import from Korea. They’ve just ripped Kia Morning badge and put on Picanto.
Sills…repair…… £500 in parts an labour🤷🏻♂️…… sell for £1600 result……headlining ain’t expensive……. or £750 spares or repair 😎
Ideal for a new young driver.
I just wonder one thing. Do you ever do OBD tests on the vehicles you purchase? We haven't seen any, it would be cool.
Sounds like all Picantos have iffy brakes-mine's a 2012 model and had two calipers ( due to binding) in under 40K !!!!! And a persistent Engine Check light on-numerous camshaft position sensor replacement Any ideas anybody????
Ah well Matt, look on the bright side, at least the beard will grow back! 😅😉
Think the only way to save it is if someone can get the parts from a breakers for next to nowt and do the work themselves!
Shame with it having such low miles, and the interior spot on after the valet.
Good stuff as always 👍
I bought a brand new Picanto in 2004. Worst car in my life. Snapped 7 clutch cables. Teeth on the handbrake ratchet snapped off. Seat adjuster snapped. It developed a dangerous fault where the throttle sensor stopped responding intermittently, often just as I pulled out at a junction. All Kia said was 'it's covered by the warranty' but come on!..7 clutch cables...really?
When you say " before you wake up at 50 and you've done nothing with your life" I'm just looking for clarification on the term nothing 😂
That little car is easily worth saving ! Sounds very much like the last MoT guy was a pedantic jobsworth ..... The jobs that are listed are all low value repairs anyway . I'll tell you what.... I'll give you £200 for it and I bet I can fix everything for less than another £200 ! ..... The reason why it's not viable for you is because you're paying your garage £40/50 per hour + their mark up on the parts . It's all a matter of scale.....
I had one these in the same colour about 5 years ago as a dog walking car. Absolutely no performance but I quite liked the old thing. Sadly they had a major engine issue where the crank pulley works loose and knackers the crankshaft. Mine suffered from that .....
Pause it at 14.12, not only does it have the rustiest wiper arms I have ever seen but I know this is "High Peak Autos" but what the actual f*** are all those "High peaks" along the bottom of the windscreen? Looks like the windscreen was replaced buy an apprentice chimp! 😂
Matt, I assume that the scrap value plus video content value made this purchase worthwhile, or else you’d have done the carvertical check prior to purchase and the mot list would have made you decline?
How about turning it into an off road demolition racer and starting up another channel. All the bad stuff you buy through the year gets stripped down to engine, gearbox, drivers seat and steering wheel and you have a high peak demolition Derby at the end of the year, or in May, May’s the best month.
Nice one Matt.
It's a shame really. I bought a metallic blue Peugeot 304 in far worse condition than that in 1979. I just took my time and got all my spares from scrapyards for next to nothing and built it into quite a nice car. Thing is I paid £500 for it back then, and I only overpaid a bit. Times have changed.
james at chops will take that in a heartbeat!
Then cry about it
Berlingo Romahome 😂
"Driver left £10k out of pocket after police seize cloned Range Rover Evoque bought on Facebook Marketplace" he didn't check the vin number, just the cloned license plate 😮
I remember putting a comment on your "little yellow Lupo" video stating "let's see what Nana's Kia or Hyundai will look like when it's 20 years old". Unlike the Lupo, these cars were ugly, cheap & nasty straight out of the factory. Nobody is so soulless, poor & lacking in taste that they should have ever bought one of these.
Awful.
Edit: as to what to do with it? Sell it to the Army so they can run over it with a tank. Sooner rather than later 🥴
Matt, give the car to the man who cleans cars for you in the village,he may think more about you.✅🇬🇧👍🍺
The glove box is definitely the last place the theif looks... Why would they keep looking after they've found it? :p
The question I've always wondered is.. you buy these cars cheap from the dealerships £400, £500 runarounds with short Mots etc .. but could us as the general public also pick them up for this price or is it because you're in the trade and buy in bulk?
Oh dear...does G.S stand for Generally Shit ?!
Gods Sake
This car looks better than it is mechanically.
Unfortunately Matt, it is beyond rescuing, you can’t save them all, top marks for optimism though❤.
If this was anyone else, I would not have spent 20 minutes watching a video about a crap 20 year old car. Since it’s you Matt, I had to 🤷🏼♂️
My daughter-in-law used to have one if these😢😢😢😢....nasty little car....however perfect for a first car for a 17/18 year old!
Grandma was listening to some bitchin tunes on the radiogram
No surprise but the WONDERGRIP Van is still STUCK in the car park.
Now we're talking. My cup of tea, this is....I'm a real high roller, I know.
Typical Dewsbury chicken shop deliver car, but needs exhaust blowing and a dent in boot lid and drivers side. Tax and insurance exempt. 👍
Sell it for spares. I have a 2010 Piccanto 1 and I love it. Had it from new now 58,000 and been very good . Only problems Abs rear sensors . One repaired by dealer at £450 and teh next one by me £50. That one not been looked after like mine but worth seeing it. Cambelt every six years of course.
I watch various youtube channels with people who collect and fix up very ordinary cars, something like this would be a easy fix for them compared to some cars they work on. Parts are pretty inexpensive as well.
It’s a bit grubby but I reckon it has potential. A machine polish and a good clean on the inside, some new wheel trims would transform it I reckon.
Shame about the headlining.
Low mileage or not it's still 20 years of deteriorated seals and gaskets.. Along with any other rubberised components. No escape from father time 😂
And yet new drivers are desperate for cheap small engined cars that they can insure!
If I was you I'd be looking to sell this car with an MOT to a newly qualified driver!
Rusty wiper arms are always a pet hate of mine.
Typical Kia.
Definitely at the end of its economical life! Shame at only 40k
Rescue that radio - it's probably worth more than the car.
Used to hide mine under the seat rather than the glove box!
Those MoT advisories! You know what happened: Previous owner thought as it only did 2k miles a year it didn't need any maintenance.
Hi Matt, Well I thought Picanto's like that one had already gone extinct, we are now like on the 4th, 5th generation Picanto. I always thought the first generation was boring, not exciting to drive. I don't think it was the most reliable either, the generations that followed were much much better.
15.30....reminded me of C U Jimmy, character done by Russ Abbot many moons ago!!
Kia Picanto:
The car for people who consider the badge prestige of a Hyundai Getz to be “a bit much.”
How can anyone get wheeltrims in such a state? And I wonder how much that headlining would have to drop before the previous owner thought to do something about it. Still, you did say he/she was very short!

Hahaha good
A 20 year old Kia? You are a few days late with your April Fool post.
But I suppose we will all have a 61 year old Kia soon. The Kia Starma.
well mecanic your not..... thoes things rong with it so easy and cheap to do.... not wort fixing???? not worth a sub.....
I find that soft tyres can be easily rectified by putting some air in them.

Wonder what the punter trading it in received in part ex from the main dealer. Hundred quid at most?
Probably £500
Not a repair, it is likely overpainted rust.
Grandson probably gave it a quick once over with the rattle can.
