The state of this car took my mind back to my first car. Previously owned by a farmer. Boot half full of straw and filthy dirty everywhere. Trade sale from a llocal car sales pitch for the princely sum of £500. That was in 1981. It was a 1976 Ford Cortina mk3 2.0 GT. I did 20 thousand miles in the year I owned it, then failed its MOT miserably because of the quantities of rust, so sold it on to someone who wanted it for spares. Thanks for the memories!
I never understand the argument that if you’ve got kids then it’s ok to have a car like a dust bin. Don’t feed the kids in the car or if you do make them clean it up after! Yes, I also have no kids 😂 Nerdy fact: Tog24 are an outdoor clothing retailer that used to design and make their clothes near me, in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire. Sadly they now make the stuff abroad. Great video as always 👍🏻
We had these in North America as the Saturn Vue (second gen) and the Chevy Captiva. Overall they seem to be good cars. Here they came with the a 2.2 i4, a 2.4 hybrid i4, a 3.0 v6, and a 3.5 v6 for the first gen. We never got the diesel here. They also came with a honda sourced 5-speed auto. The only engine change for the second gen was the addition of a 3.6 vvt v6. The Chevy version was mainly sold as a fleet vehicle. I feel that the design has held up pretty nice and doesn't look as old as it is.
@@HighPeakAutos I know, Matt, why would we be? Great comments about the owners again, keep up the good work! The subtle humour in your videos brighten our days! I loved how you slaughtered the big auto Citroen in another video!
You always make hay whilst the sun shines! I don’t know why, but your uploads are strangely compelling to watch. I somehow think it’s related to your honest reactions and really saying what’s on your mind (like Carl Pilkington, but well spoken in some way!) . I’m watching a reality TV where man meets machine, staring a polite and non confrontational male Kim Woodburn disgusted by dirty cars and fixing them up for someone else to enjoy 😂
Brilliant throw away line, "We don't have a spare tyre but we have more hay" lol, choked on my coffee. About time you started carrying around a set of coveralls Matt....this was nearly that day they were needed, but the day is coming? keep on going....fantastic entertainment.
A colleague was one of the few people who bought one of those brand new about 10 years ago. It never did more than 30mpg regardless of the journey. It nearly killed him when the electronic handbrake stopped doing its job and the car careered down his driveway a few seconds after he'd been in the garage and closed the door. The bonus was the car was so badly damaged it was written off!
I’m a horsey person and I’m in my car day in day out for work too. It can get pretty grubby on the inside with hay, horse poo, sand, stones etc. but it’s cleaned at least once a month, or when I’m taking passengers, and an hour later when it’s done it has that new car smell and looks brand new. For a 190k 7 year old Passat, use them to fulfil their purpose but also look after them. You might use a coffee mug 2-3 times per day without washing it ‘properly’ but you wouldn’t use it for 2-3 months without washing it!
Gee, you wouldn’t have thought something that awful cold come up that well. And, with a bit of work has become a car someone can drive happily for years. Great video, Matt. Well done.
Absolutely no excuses for getting a car in this state, sorry Matt for having to get in it but what a transformation and hopefully a well deserved decent profit..🤞👍

I'm going to bed now after watching another very entertaining video. My main concern is whether I wake up in the middle of the night picturing where the anti chafing cream has been used!😮
Model: Antara or Anthrax? Who thinks that's ok? As you and others have said, get it cleaned before trading in to get a higher price, if not for your own self respect. Owned a few Vauxhalls (Opels) over the years in a fleet and once they were serviced, survived the 3 years we asked of them, with some doing up to 90,000 miles over 3 years. While still in the car park, i thought you were going to say "I've overspent on the cleaning bill alone." 😊
You must have had a very sheltered life not to recognise a bike inner tube😂although you probably had your own cycle mechanic as a lad😎Having said that, you’re a braver chap than me to get into that car without a hazmat suit on!!!!😂😂
Great result on this one! Pretty straightforward going, I think there's soon a new owner for this, the mileage not too high and technically in pretty good shape.
Where there's muck there's money to be made. A good daily driver for someone if you like a diesel. For me it would have to be a petrol and no towbar. and far better looked after.
I've recently fancied a VW Caddy, and I never knew why. Now I do. It's because of the lovely one in the background of these videos 😂 (by the way, an excellent example of a tastefully modified car)
I had one for a few days. Luckily, I found a serious (but not obvious) fault and I was able to return it to the dealer. It drove horribly. They have horrible suspension and roll like a 2CV when cornering at speed. Refinement is terrible. Yougurt pot plastics.
These were so polular bck in the day, always likeed them in White and a brown interior. As a detailing business owner, the amout of work i would do for 200 euros and transofrm this car to factory standards. Still after 5 years in the detailing industry i dont know why people drive smelly and dirty cars, makes you wonder what kind of a person they are to not take their car for 30 pound wash and valet? Anyways great video as usual Matt! :D
Well you got me there Matt. The first car that I never even heard of, or knew existed! Even the Ssanyong Tivoli I'd seen a few of knocking about. Not a bad looking motor to be fair. Cleaned up well too! I understand that in certain environments it's difficult to keep a car clean, but Jesus when you're trading it in, spend a few bob getting it clean, or a couple of hours yourself. I could never hand a car over in that state!
These are fantastic for towing but the auto handbrakes are awful. They don’t understand that they need to hold until there’s enough revs. But they don’t, so they roll forwards when facing downhill. Pretty scary if you’re used to a manual handbrake.
i never seen a vauxhall antara before in my life but the car looks familiar to me kind of reminds me of chevrolet/opel/holden captiva! and as it turns out.. it is!! what am i expecting, this is GM after all

The GG L322 looking lovely in that car park sun light. Nice to see it’s being kept clean - as if you wouldn’t !
Yes, I also have no kids 😂
Nerdy fact: Tog24 are an outdoor clothing retailer that used to design and make their clothes near me, in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire. Sadly they now make the stuff abroad.
Great video as always 👍🏻
That looks like Chessie Wotsits beside the driver's seat. I love them. Previous owner obv. a person of considerable taste.
Looking forward to watching this one!
Just wanted to say that "That was a big fly, wasn't it?" and "Are yer chafing, dear?" split my sides 🤣
Car dealer casually not recognising bicycle inner tube, but is delighted about the chaffing cream!
I’m not a cyclist
I don't think this car had ever been cleaned and there is absolutely no excuse.
@@davidperry3531 A clean car drives better than a dirty one
To be honest, I really enjoy watching your videos. ❤❤
Hiii 👋 Watching your videos became a favourite part of my weekly routine. Happy monday!🥰🥰 A guinea pig drove this car 😂
Totally...no excuses...Slovenly
I'm surprised that you don't keep a 'can of hope' for both types of fuel Matt. Plenty of times that I've bought an old car and it's running on air.
Love these videos I’m looking forward to a used Ford focus ST video but all these are still quality your a top bloke 👍😁
I used to work in a car lot detailing ect & when a farm fresh beauty like this came in my boss would chuck an extra hundred at me. Extremely hard hrs & hrs labour. Lucky the flash back came from Matty
Fantastic transformation looks better than when it left the factory, excellent work Matt!
Don't know about the sunglasses Matt but Tog 24 make bloody good clothing. Good video, car came out well.
Talk about turning a sow's ear into a silk purse!! well done matt, the car now looks great 🙂 love the videos mate, and i only live down the road in sunny reddish, lol.
These were sold in Australia as the Holden Captiva.
They ended up with a less than ideal nickname.
I'm going to bed now after watching another very entertaining video. My main concern is whether I wake up in the middle of the night picturing where the anti chafing cream has been used!😮
The interior in your Range Rover ❤🔥
My friends mum used to have one of these. She used to use the kettle with boiling water to defrost the windscreen.
Good video Matt cleaned up well better than the usual death traps you get 😅
I've recently fancied a VW Caddy, and I never knew why.
Nice one Matt from mutton to beef you scored 180 good arrows.
Not a bad profit not to be sniffed at in these hard times .
Kevin
Well done
These are fantastic for towing but the auto handbrakes are awful. They don’t understand that they need to hold until there’s enough revs. But they don’t, so they roll forwards when facing downhill. Pretty scary if you’re used to a manual handbrake.
9:20 that's probably a bicycle inner tube. explains the credit card multitool and in some fashion, the chafing cream
i never seen a vauxhall antara before in my life but the car looks familiar to me
kind of reminds me of chevrolet/opel/holden captiva! and as it turns out.. it is!!
what am i expecting, this is GM after all
8:13 I have 3 kids and keep my car clean. It’s called the hand car wash at Tesco while your doing the shopping, it’s not difficult.
That’s a clean , tidy car. Should sell well and very quickly
Somehow reminds me of back home. In Australia now but was back in that area back in the day , funny how I watch this stuff reminds me of home
Clean wagon, looks good. Cheap driving for 4k for 5years.
A superb job done on it. Refreshed & ready for it's new owner.
Mazda Bongo is a Ford Freda, had one blow up on Brighouse hill M62
We have the Holden Captiva in Australia. They're very popular here. Well, they were, until Holden wound up operations.
Before and after, superb result!
I’ve seen cleaner skips than the inside of that car. Great video again Matt.
